    He Annemarie,
    Thanks for this brilliant and easy explansion of Perfect Modals. I've watched some videos about them, but only after your video, I definitely understand in which cases to use them in real life. Thanks a lot. You became for me like a role model, I like your manner of speaking and try to copy it. I noticed when I use your phrases people give compliments me. Ok, my examples:
    1. I'm really sorry. I know, I should've done it half a year ago, but I burned out at that period of time and just didn't have energy and time for this task. I promise. I'll deal with it in the nearest time.
    2. I think, she could've been confused with timetable, because she is a newcomer in the city. It is a reason why she is not here yet. I guess, we need to phone her.
    3. I would have had the same opportinities as my kids have at present time.

    What is the difference between these sentences?
    1. He couldn't drive here alone.
    2. He couldn't have driven here alone.

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the question. The first sentence using the simple past to indicate that it was not possible for him to drive along. This could be due to lack of ability or illness, for example.
      The second uses the modal in the past perfect form indicating an assumption or a belief about something in the past. In thinking about a past situation, the speaker doesn't think the person drove alone.
      I hope this helps.

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  Рік тому

      Thanks for the question. Can you tell me a little more about what you mean by "shouldn't have stopped me..." Do you mean the car stopped?
      One possibility is: If I had fixed my car, it wouldn't have stopped (unexpectedly) in the street.

    • @nirajthakor9748
      @nirajthakor9748 Рік тому

      @@SpeakconfidentenglishI think the questioner wants to ask that car caused for him to stop in the street so sarcastically saying if i had fixed my car it wouldn't have got me into the situation like in the middle of the street and something
