- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- In this lesson, you can learn how to use would have, should have and could have. Did you learn anything new in this lesson? Let us know in the comments!
These verbs-would, should, could, etc.-are modal verbs, so they don’t have past forms like normal verbs do. Instead, you can talk about the past by adding have plus a past participle after the verb.
In this class, you’ll learn how to use these modal verbs to talk about the past in English, what they mean, and how they’re different. Keep practicing after you watch and try a class with an OOE teacher today: bit.ly/ooe-teac....

Good, Ahsan. Here are some tips:
1) Don't forget to capitalize the first letter of a sentence and 'I'.
2) 'If I had known that you wouldn't miss me, I could have...' not, 'won't'.
Hope this is useful for you!

Hi my great teachers! Thanks for teaching us about "would have" , "could have" and "should have"
And I've come across the following sentence :
"If the photograph was taken in 1999 , I would have been ten years old"
I've got a native speaker saying the sentence
And my question is : Why is the first part of the sentence "was taken" and not "had been taken"
Someone took the photographer in the past , then why not "had been taken" ?
It's a conditional sentence , isn't it ?
And also I've come across such a sentence which is "I wish I never met you"
The act of meeting is in the past but why not "had never met"
Could you explain why ? Thank you so much!
I shouldn't have missed your lessons.
You can catch up with all of them now :)
You are top explainers. Thank you! I should have subscribed to your channel long ago so l would have reached higher levels in the language. )

- Explain that someone was lucky to avoid something in the past using 'could have'. they were new to me until your clear explanation, thank you.
If I had subscribed to your lessons a few years earlier, I could have learnt to write English perfectly.
Hello sir, great video.
I have a doubt about "Should Have".
It should have been ready an hour ago.( we know that our expectation failed, that means we know the result that is opposite of our expectation).
So, Can we use "should have" for past expectation which result is till unknown ?
for example, New york flight should have landed an hour ago. ( I really don't know whether flight landed or got cancelled, I was expecting because of flight timetable says so.)
Thanks in advance. your videos are much helpful.
Hi Patel, yes you can! If you don't know the result or the result hasn't happened yet, you can use 'should have' to express the expectation from the timetable.
If I would have listened to you sooner, I will have had learned this phrasal verbs better I would've practiced more for better understanding, I should've recommended this channel, to my friends.
Thank you I think this a defecult vedio. I mean not easy to me. I should repute again and agin to can understand it. Thank again

Should have

2. Regret something in the past
Could have
1. Imaginary past
2. Criticizing others
3. When u are not sure about something
4. To say someone is lucky to have avoided the bad situation
Would have
1. To talk about imaginary past
It's a great lesson. It's thé FIRST time I learn this topic. Tank you.
hi guys i am happy for this lesson but can i say that : would have a big house if i worked
Nice, don't forget 'I would have a big house if I worked'. Thanks for sharing, Schelove!
you're welcome its 'a pleasure for me
I didn't know the usage of 'could have done' as a guess meaning. Thanks a lot.🙂👍
You made a example for "could have" sentence: It's just a scratch, but you could have really hurt yourself. it's should be "could have "or "couldn't have"? which one is correct? Thank you for your reply.
'Could have' is correct, meaning: it was possible for you to hurt yourself, but you didn't.
'You couldn't have hurt yourself' would mean 'it was impossible for you to hurt yourself.'
I learned could have structure ,I learned what mean it comes.
Your teaching method is really good I want more videos
This is one of the best channels on UA-cam.
Excuse me if we should use past participle after would have for imaginary situation in the past so why in your example you have used simple verb?
"We wouldn't have become friends."
Why you didn't use "became" ?!!!!!!
Many thanks
Hi there. The past participle form of 'become' is 'become.' It's an irregular verb. Hope this helps you!
good
Hello, My name is Diego. I am from Mexico. I have a question. One of your examples (time 3:17) " if I had got better exam results, I would have got into Harvard". wouldn't it be if I had gotten better results, I would have gotten into Harvard? what is the past participle of the verb "get"? Thanks for whatever clarification you can offer. I enjoy very much your lessons.
Hi Diego, good question! The grammatically correct past participle of 'got' is actually 'got'. However, many native speakers use 'gotten' as well!
I should have seen this video before
I am a MALAYALEE.. this video is so helpful...usage in different context is explained well... Thank You Sir

Can we use present tense in should have sentence I would have selected you I was there
I should have done this before gone for marriage
Thanks for sharing, Aakifa! Great sentences, they all use the correct forms of the modal verbs. To answer your question, we cannot use the present tense with 'should have'.
It is so amazing. If I had watched you before, I could have a master in English grammar.
If I hadn't watched this youtube channel, I wouldn't have known how to use should have, could have, would have in conversation.
Wonderful explanations, sir👍.
It might seem crazy what I'm about to write, but here I go....
Could= past of can
Would= past of will
Should is a simple an very useful mldal verb here are some examples of grammar rule....
When you use could, would or should with the auxiliary (have) it's mandatory or obligatory put a past participle take these for instance: modal verb could, would and should+ have + verb in p.
Participle
I would've/would have bought a bike for mi little sister.!
I could have/ I could've made a baby with my wife😂
I should have/I should've won the lottery intead of him...
Simple past using modal verb example: Could, would, should + verb in simple past.!
Take these for instance
we could make pizza intead of rice and chicken.!
They would ran in the park before talking to them.!
You should did my homework before answer the phone😂
I hope it can help you guy's
Hi Carlos. Almost! For your lower examples, we actually want to use 'would have' 'could have' and 'should have' plus the past participle to express a past idea: 'We could have made pizza instead...' 'They would have run...' and 'You should have done...'.
If i would not have scored good in IELTS then i would have been studying in any local college.
If I hadn't watched this lesson I wouldn't have learned the appropriate way to use them.
I could have watched this lesson instead of trying to understand by myself.
I should have found this lesson sooner.
Nice!

If i'd had more time to learn english, i could have took the chances and not wasting my time in unimportant things. :(
Good! One tip: 'If I'd had more time to learn English, I could have taken chances...' not, 'took the chances.'
Guess, imagine, expect, criticize, regret are the keys words to take as 📝 notes in order to know these modals verbs.
Should have/could have/would have, thre are model verbs, are used for the past.Should have ,is used for regret and self-criticism.For exampl, I should have married Marinda before she got married...would have ,is used for imaginary past. For example, I would have got married her, If I had estates. Her father disliked poor. Could have,is used for guess. For example, my friend,John Keat say that I could have accepted the award. He chastised me why didn't accept it?Thanks both of my respected teachers. I have no such words for both of your compliment, but will say you (both)are matchless among your contemporaries .Bundle of thanks.
Just on the other day. I forgot to wear the mask and went to market.thank God I didn’t get infected or i could have got infected
Hi Muhammad. Nice example. One tip: 'Thank God I didn't get infected or I could have got really sick,' is a bit better than repeating 'get infected'.
3:16 " Если бы у меня были бы лучше результаты за экзамен, я бы поступил в Гарвард"
5:20 " Если бы у меня было больше времени, я бы смог сделать все"
8:14 " Тебе следовало позвонить мне, как ты обещал"
Would have= I wonder if my parents didn’t undergo in divorce I would’ve have the best fam memories.
Could have= I constantly prayed for them. If I could have a confidence to reach them them. I will do it.😓
Nice, Asher! You have the right idea. Here are a few suggestions for your sentences:
1) 'I wonder if I would've had the best family memories if my parents hadn't undergone the divorce'.
2) 'If I could have had confidence to reach them, I would have done it'.

Now I know how to use , should have, could have , would have. We must use all these words in the past . I think I will revise this lesson.
I should have watched sooner
Got valuable piece of information. It's simply entertains English learners aspirants
What a great lesson i got . As for the "could have~" we usually think of it as imaginary past alone. So whenever I happened to read the other usages, to guess~ to criticise~ to say that ~lucky, i was so confused that it made me crazy. Now thanks to this lesson, i have clearly understood the usages. thanks again. Acturally, the "could have usages" are not explained in detail like your class in any other grammar book. What a wonderful~ I've finally got to know what I have been eager to
That's great! We're glad the lesson could help to clarify this topic for you.
I should have watched this lesson before my exam, anyway If I watched this lesson, I would have scored full marks in English.
Nice!
That is a great lesson. In the past, I've always mixed those three verbs, thinking that they have the same kind of function, especially 'would' and 'could'. However, now everything is clear to me, and I'm confident that in the future, I won't have a hard time using them.
Thank you so much for this lesson ❤
