Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons is quite simply the best vocalist around at this moment in time. Seen Rival Sons live a few times now and he’s incredible. In fact I’d go as far as to say he’s the best I’ve ever heard. Long live Rival Sons. The first time I ever heard him sing I described his as like Paul Rodgers but better. My mates thought I was mad until they heard him.
Been a huge rival sons fan, for years. They're fucking insane live. They have no bad songs, jays voice is insane, worth checking out his previous solo stuff too.
I literally only discovered em like a year ago and have been non stop obsessed ever since. I recommended them here on Justin’s dirty honey video, not sure if that’s why he reacted to them but I preach them everywhere. Truly the best rock band I’ve ever heard
Jay Buchanan is one of my favorite vocalists today, a long with Justin, of course. Rival Sons are so good. Their last album was amazing, and I can't wait for the new one. You should definitely check out their discography. So many great songs.
Hands down the greatest rock n roll band for the last 12 years. Mature, meaningful lyrics that speak to your soul. Can never say enough about Rival Sons and how they have gotten me through some rough times.
Absolutely love this band. Everything they do is just top quality. If you like this video it ties in directly to the video for their last single called Nobody Wants To Die, highly recommend. By the way that is the guitarists son riding the bike in this video.
I’ve been following them almost 10 years. They are superb due to their writing and the wonderful vocalizations of the lead singer Jay Buchanan. He blows me away.
This band are INCREDIBLE, and you've missed out if you haven't caught them. Black Sabbath picked them up a few years ago and they toured with them. Deserve all the accolades, amazing band. Xx
Heard Soundgarden straight away but had to rack my brain for what else I was hearing, it’s Stone Temple Pilots, and a hint of Powderfinger’s Sunsets. Gorgeous voice, great sounds.
Just heard of this band, now have their songs on shuffle and each one so far is EXCEPTIONALLY AWESOME! I’m in some kind of Rock Euphoria that I haven’t felt in Ages…

Now that you said Soundgarden: yes! It sounds similar and then it is something else, too! They have amazing albums, songs! I recommend: Where I've Been, Feral Roots, Look Away, Only One, Face Of Light, Pretty Face, Keep On Swinging, Until The Sun Comes Up, Pressure & Time, Jordan, Belle Star, Manifest Destiny Pt.2, Tell Me Something, Angel, Soul, Radio and Torture 😉
Been waiting a long time for Rival Sons to get featured on this channel. It'd be well worth your time checking out some live performances. They sound even bigger and shine even brighter
Their last album was great, they are truly a rock band and I'm really liking the new singles. I really enjoy how uncliched they are while harking back to older sounds.
So pleased to see you are reviewing Rival Sons today! I was going to suggest them to you. One of my favourite bands 🙂 . The two songs released from their up coming new album sound amazing. Their previous album Feral Roots is awesome too, and their back catalogue. Real rock and roll 🤘
I just recently found your channel because of your Rick Beato interview. You are a delightful man and I appreciate you! Thank you for introducing me to this excellent new band!
Yes he is. He has all of the soul Paul Rodgers has and can belt it out like a young David Coverdale, Yet has all the emotion of a Sam Cooke. The videos of just Scott and Jay with a couple acoustic guitars are proof positive the guy is the real deal and no trickery or backing tracks are needed for them to impress the snobs in the back row.
Yes, that's what singers sound like... "when they can actually sing". No autotune crutch required. Can't believe you've never heard of Rival Sons. Want to have your mind really blown, check out their earlier stuff; "Pressure and Time", "Face of Light", and "Keep on Swinging", just to list a few. Incredible band.
Maestro Jussy! You guys and and the Rival Sons would make the show of a lifetime together! Two incredibly rock n roll RAW and Vulnerable artists!! By the way, Jay Buchanan of RS is a great guy.. took 45 minutes to talk to me about making a life of music directly after he had put on one of the best shows of my life! Ps. My son is a drummer who idolizes Miley, and he literally talked to my son about drumming, gear, how to do a good autograph, etc, for over 20 minutes. Amazing band and awesome human beings.

Greetings Justin. I recently discovered your channel, and have been a fan of “The Darkness” for years. Thank you for providing great videos & musical content. I hope to see you in New York soon. Be well.
What an excellent rabbit hole to go down! I saw Rival Sons open for Black Sabbath on their 2016 tour, and they killed it. Some of my favorite RS tracks are: All the Way, Until the Sun Comes, Pressure & Time, Get Mine, Young Love, Electric Man, & Open My Eyes. Great stuff!
Rival Sons "Run from Revelation" is one of my favorite songs. That kind of groove with a show case singer. But the rhythm section nails all of the subtleties possible in the format.

Guys are awesome. I am an older 50's dude now, but i really been digging Rival Sons for last few years. Sort of classic, traditional but good current vibe too. Incredible vocals, he almost has some great soul influence in other songs incredible range Great rock voice. Great writing and hooks and guitar player does interesting type things almost gets that black keys thick guitar sound a lot but experiments too.. and sounds without being a shredder, more hook stuff..
1.) Can’t understand how this band escaped me. 2.) In the last few minutes I left JHRA to check out a few songs, and most rock harder than this one, but I agree with J.H., this does have a Soundgarden/Cornell vibe to it! Nice! I also like the mini bike!
Ikr? I saw their first video about 3 months ago...blown away... Then I see the video was NINE years old. I'm like WTH? I felt like I had been at GITMO for the last nine years.
LOVE RIVAL SONS! I've been into them ever since first hearing them over 10 years ago. The first few times I drove from Cleveland to Buffalo to see them in concert a couple times and meet them. Amazing musicians. The best singer on the planet. Super cool dudes in person. Great songs, great albums, absolutely stellar and amazing live in concert. The. . . best. . . rock and roll band. . . on the planet!
Ah, Rival Sons. I was a super fan from around 2010 onwards. Got to know them a little bit. We used to bring them food from the Hare Krishna temple before their gigs. They were so much fun to enjoy live. Their latest work is not as exciting to my ears but they hold a special place in my rocking heart.
I can see the 70s reference thing - the vocals have a mix of Credence and an amplified James Taylor. But spot on with the Soundgarden comparison, as that was my first thought the moment the guitars began. Def gonna check these guys out.
Been following them since Pressure and Time (coincidentally, this and Darkness albums never left my car 😆) Quite Zepplin-y back then but developed their own unique sound with every album. Miley is an incredible drummer, improvisation master. As for Buchanan...well, melts your heart one minute and then melts your face the next.
Yay!! Rival Sons!! Glad you’re on board!! Check out the other new track, Nobody Wants To Die, as well as their most recent album, Feral Roots!! And then you’re officially down the rabbit hole!! Yay!!

Greetings, Justin! I can’t believe that you have just now found Rival Sons! I’m sure that you’ve shared a few bills with them. Nonetheless, it’s a thrill to have you on board! They’re one of the best live bands on this, or any other, planet. Jay’s vocals are just as astounding onstage. I would recommend seeing them in the UK when they next tour there. You’ll not be disappointed. And please give their video for “Nobody Wants to Die” a spin. It’s tied in with “Rapture” and it’s hella fun!
Hey Justin, great video as always! I love these videos because they expose me to a bunch of artists and bands I'd never have found on my own. I mostly listen to Japanese bands, and I know you've covered a few on the channel. I think you'd really like the band "Sokoninaru" - they're a japanese progressive metal/heavy rock (I don't know for certain tbh) and I think their sound would be right up your alley. I recommend their song "Tenohira De Odoru", it's an absolute banger!
A consistently great band and one I'm very happy to say I caught on to when they were on the way up, virtually unknown and playing 500 cap venues in the UK to 250 people. The orange amps were fantastically loud.
Oh Sweet, Sweet Jesus....I really thought that you would have known about these guys. You got 6 other albums of amazing music to explore. Jay and Scott get all of the accolades (and well deserved(, but Dave and Mike make up one of the most formidable rhythm sections out there today. They are so original and yet so familiar sounding at the same time. It'd be really easy for Jay to just impress with his vocal talent and write nonsense songs, but the lyrics are always fantastic. You got to listen to more songs by these guys. I mean this is not a bad song at all, but if I was going to pick out 20 songs by them to listen to this wouldn't be on the list.
THE BEST, and perhaps, THE ONLY Rock Band from the 00's that are constantly doing fantastic album, each and every time, Justin. The saviours of rock and roll? I certainly think so! More of the boys, puh-lease! 🥰
I was in a certain well known high street music store last week when a song started playing, i knew i knew the band but just couldnt think who it was so asked, it was rival sons, by the time i got home i forgot again, it took me another ten hours of going through my brains somewhat chaotic filing system trying to remember but couldnt, stopped thinking about it, 5 minutes later i remembered, im nearly 50, this kind of thing keeps happening more and more.
Iv'e loved Rival Sons since seeing them support Sabbath on their final tour. Iv'e been to see them a couple of times, they just keep getting better, I can't wait for the new album in June.

Nice One. This worked for me.
Rival Sons are one of the best bands on the planet. Period. I'm surprised people in the comments that haven't heard of them! Welcome on board!
A consistently great band and one I'm very happy to say I caught on to when they were on the way up, virtually unknown and playing 500 cap venues in the UK to 250 people. The orange amps were fantastically loud.
Been following them from the beginning. Fantastic band. Listen to some early stuff.
The Balck Summer Crush was better, 😂
Talented, professionals and artists. One of the best bands of rock and roll. Buchanan sings amazingly.
They are a fantastic band and Jay Buchanan has a greeeat voice!!. I saw them live and I need to repeat soon.
I've found myself trying to sing Justin's intro in the shower. Thankfully a well insulated hoosie.
Iv'e loved Rival Sons since seeing them support Sabbath on their final tour. Iv'e been to see them a couple of times, they just keep getting better, I can't wait for the new album in June.
