- Wow. This is just a really great song, with a great singer and really well written. Today I'm reacting to the band @RivalSons and their brand new song "Rapture". I have not listened to them before this, but I think a few of you are a fan of these guys already? Let me know what you think and go have a watch of the full music video, it doesn't have enough views in my opinion for how great it is: • Rival Sons - Rapture [...

Glad to see Rival Sons are getting some attention. They have produced so many solid albums, and deserve success.
Around Pressure & Time I got obsessed with Rival Sons. Everything about them is just raw and beautiful. What a band
❤
What about The Black Summer Crush?
Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons is quite simply the best vocalist around at this moment in time. Seen Rival Sons live a few times now and he’s incredible. In fact I’d go as far as to say he’s the best I’ve ever heard. Long live Rival Sons. The first time I ever heard him sing I described his as like Paul Rodgers but better. My mates thought I was mad until they heard him.
This band are INCREDIBLE, and you've missed out if you haven't caught them. Black Sabbath picked them up a few years ago and they toured with them. Deserve all the accolades, amazing band. Xx
YES, after sending the Thanks I've been waiting for months for this video. Thanks Justin!
Pressure and Time will always be a certified hood classic.
@@Tityretupatulae Four notes of it. FOUR.
Pressure and Time....one of the all time best vocal performances ever recorded!
So pleased to see you are reviewing Rival Sons today! I was going to suggest them to you. One of my favourite bands 🙂 . The two songs released from their up coming new album sound amazing. Their previous album Feral Roots is awesome too, and their back catalogue. Real rock and roll 🤘
I need to go listen to the whole thing now.
Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ♡
they have sooo many good songs. they deserve more fame. love 'em.
I like Rival Sons. Good ol fashioned rock and roll. My favorite tune of theirs is "Pressure and Time".
what's your view of this song, would appreciate your view ua-cam.com/video/vHNWkxX5kls/v-deo.html
@@thelostmarbles4310 this is pretty good! I like the harmonies. The harpsichord sounds gave it a nice 60s vibe. The only thing I would have probably added (and this is just me) is some kind of melodic hook or line on the guitar as a setup for the verses. Otherwise that's a solid effort! (and I liked the uptempo change near the end!)
@@easter_sunday nice one thanks.
Their last album was great, they are truly a rock band and I'm really liking the new singles. I really enjoy how uncliched they are while harking back to older sounds.
Maestro Jussy! You guys and and the Rival Sons would make the show of a lifetime together! Two incredibly rock n roll RAW and Vulnerable artists!! By the way, Jay Buchanan of RS is a great guy.. took 45 minutes to talk to me about making a life of music directly after he had put on one of the best shows of my life! Ps. Appreciate your hard work and dedication to yourself and us fans. You’ll live forever whether you know it or not❤️
Justin you got some catching up to do on not only on their back catalogue but there's many radio station hosted live tunes on UA-cam sometimes duo acoustic and sometime full band with amps. Been listening / watching them since first album, they're a breath of fresh air in the rock scene.
Jay is one of the best vocalists of his generation. Glad you're onboard MiLord.
Yes he is. He has all of the soul Paul Rodgers has and can belt it out like a young David Coverdale, Yet has all the emotion of a Sam Cooke. The videos of just Scott and Jay with a couple acoustic guitars are proof positive the guy is the real deal and no trickery or backing tracks are needed for them to impress the snobs in the back row.
WORD!
I've seen them twice and Jay is the great vocalist I've encountered live. Tremendous!
Correct.
Yeah that's not much of a compliment in the last generation or the current. They both are terrible. It's not a debate so don't even try..
Yes, that's what singers sound like... "when they can actually sing". No autotune crutch required.
Can't believe you've never heard of Rival Sons. Want to have your mind really blown, check out their earlier stuff; "Pressure and Time", "Face of Light", and "Keep on Swinging", just to list a few. Incredible band.
What an excellent rabbit hole to go down! I saw Rival Sons open for Black Sabbath on their 2016 tour, and they killed it. Some of my favorite RS tracks are: All the Way, Until the Sun Comes, Pressure & Time, Get Mine, Young Love, Electric Man, & Open My Eyes. Great stuff!
what's your view of this song, would appreciate your view ua-cam.com/video/vHNWkxX5kls/v-deo.html
Greetings Justin. I recently discovered your channel, and have been a fan of “The Darkness” for years. Thank you for providing great videos & musical content. I hope to see you in New York soon. Be well.
Rival Sons "Run from Revelation" is one of my favorite songs. That kind of groove with a show case singer. But the rhythm section nails all of the subtleties possible in the format.
KILL-ER track!
Head Down is 11 years old today. Favorite album by the Sons.
So glad you are reviewing Rival Sons! Fan since 2014. Jay Buchanan is a dream❤. Their music is Pure Gold!
Ah, Rival Sons. I was a super fan from around 2010 onwards. Got to know them a little bit. We used to bring them food from the Hare Krishna temple before their gigs. They were so much fun to enjoy live. Their latest work is not as exciting to my ears but they hold a special place in my rocking heart.
LOVE RIVAL SONS! I've been into them ever since first hearing them over 10 years ago. The first few times I drove from Cleveland to Buffalo to see them in concert a couple times and meet them. Amazing musicians. The best singer on the planet. Super cool dudes in person. Great songs, great albums, absolutely stellar and amazing live in concert. The. . . best. . . rock and roll band. . . on the planet!
I can see the 70s reference thing - the vocals have a mix of Credence and an amplified James Taylor. But spot on with the Soundgarden comparison, as that was my first thought the moment the guitars began. Def gonna check these guys out.
Saw them live supporting Black Sabbath at the O2 and with Slash in South of France. Will never forget the feeling of the Fuzz crashing on my bones! Incredible guitar tones!
Superb band. Seen them four times now. The drummer never plays the same fill twice and the vocalist will blow your face clean off! Another blinding track here. That big dingey graveyard riff is stunning.
it's about time :) so many great songs, and they kick so much ass live
Love, Love the Rival Sons. Gems in every Album.
Spot on mate. Rival Sons are the blueprint for what modern rock is and will be.
Hey Justin, great video as always! I love these videos because they expose me to a bunch of artists and bands I'd never have found on my own. I mostly listen to Japanese bands, and I know you've covered a few on the channel. I think you'd really like the band "Sokoninaru" - they're a japanese progressive metal/heavy rock (I don't know for certain tbh) and I think their sound would be right up your alley. I recommend their song "Tenohira De Odoru", it's an absolute banger!
Definitely Sound Garden vibes. I remember living in a van and getting that album that opens with "Gasoline" and busting that out daily for a few weeks.
I've seen a video of them playing the Crow Bar in London, that bar's only about 12 feet wide (including the bar!), it looked absolutely rammed/insane!
One of the best bands around right now! Listen to all of their stuff!
Lisyened to this band for a long time. superb outfit
Thank you again Justin for helping to expand my musical appreciation 🙏🤙
Greetings, Justin! I can’t believe that you have just now found Rival Sons! I’m sure that you’ve shared a few bills with them. Nonetheless, it’s a thrill to have you on board! They’re one of the best live bands on this, or any other, planet. Jay’s vocals are just as astounding onstage. I would recommend seeing them in the UK when they next tour there. You’ll not be disappointed. And please give their video for “Nobody Wants to Die” a spin. It’s tied in with “Rapture” and it’s hella fun!
His version of "Hoplesly devoted to you " its one of the best things on UA-cam ! Powerfull and soft at the same time
Great band, every album absolutely rocks. This track has a different sound again. Looking forward to the full record. Also go and see them live. One of the tightest bands I’ve ever seen
👍👍👍👍👍👍thxs for the video and riding again
From Prescott AZ
I think this song is beautiful and powerful. It's beautiful but not wimpy, loud and quiet. Kinda get Nirvana vibes. The beginning progression reminds me of "Rape Me" by Nirvana. As always, Thank You Justin! P.S. Please please check out "Smile Dropper" by Dear Forbidden. It slaps. Heard it on Finnerty's show.
Saw these guys opening for Black Sabbath in 2016...a punch in the face live
Would say GWV is probably my favourite album of theirs but love em all… ridiculously talented chaps… thank fuck people are still writing music like this
Adore Rival Sons - Open My Eyes. There is something very punchy about their music style, and their songs draw you in. Thanks for highlighting this awesome band.
To get the context you absolutely have to see their Nobody Wants to Die video Justin! It's killer, they're building a real story with the preacher.
Iv'e loved Rival Sons since seeing them support Sabbath on their final tour. Iv'e been to see them a couple of times, they just keep getting better, I can't wait for the new album in June.
What is this? A modern guitar based rock band? Well, they're going on my list!
Never heard of these guys but yeh they are pretty decent..I think I'll jump down the rabbit hole and search their discography
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnn 🎶🎶🎶🎸
By the way Greer released the black mountain dirt pedal that was as their description says made while cranking The Darkness as loud as possible.. I ordered one .. because I like what Greer makes but it’s cool that they love the darkness
I’d recommend having a look at Priestgate, band from Driffield! Incredible live and have been recorded really well.
Rival Sons are amazing. Wicked live. Tight.
I first saw Rival Sons supporting Judas Priest in 2011 since then I have seen them on their own and also supporting Black Sabbath. They are superb live and up there with all the best live bands, The Darkness included.
Great songs and fantastic delivery.
Rival Sons are a fantastic rock band. Amazing live performers. They are the real deal.
I saw Rival Sons open for Black Sabbath in 2016, I remember they were incredible
Blown away by that seven albums in why have I just found out about them?!
Edit: I've heard "Do Your Worst" on TV somewhere what a track
I really like Jordan by them, i got a sampler cd from a magazine of these guys, and really good songs, versatile sound
Btw it’s the band at the end at the car, the singer with the cigarette. The previous video tells their stories: Nobody Wants to Die.
I always enjoy your channel.
I thought you may find this video. Interesting it’s somebody else singing the darkness. “A thing called love. “ and a so-called vocal teacher reacting to it…
Actually, you could almost do a segment on it check it out .
Cheers from Canada
Amazing! Was getting Sound Garden, Killers and Audioslave vibes
I get all my new music from you, big cat❤
You have to listen to rival sons in your own time justin so much great stuff to check out
I see a ton of soundgarden in the music even tho it's not anything like them over all
Acoustic version of Face of Light at the radio station....wow....
Obviously someone has been living under a rock. Great Western Valkyrie was Classic Rock mags LP. of that year.
You should definitely get a Honda Monkey, Justin. I love mine. They’re terrific little bikes.
Cover of wild horses is fantastic also love feral routes and pressure and time, too bad also slaps
These guys have been my favorite band since I discovered them a decade ago. Their catalog of stunningly great songs is almost too long to list. Just start at Great Western Valkyrie, and branch outward. Every one of them is a STELLAR musician. In concert, Jay & the boys deliver precisely what you hear on the studio track. Seen them live numerous times. The only band I've wanted to see more than once. Includes a list of groups going back to the '80s. Cannot wait for Darkfighter!!!!!!!!!
Can you review Royal Republic? High Times or Getting Along by them are great songs. Thank you for reviewing Rival Sons they're amazing!!! and real.
Love this channel , Rival Sons are one of my favs . So awesome live ! Check out Jordan , fantastic tune
That was really rather marvellous! They remind me a little bit of Deep Purple.
Jay Buchanan's voice is beautiful... One of my favourite vocalists ever!
Guys check out their last album Feral Roots, just crazy good songs!
This is another great song. Curious about Justin's thoughts about Gary Numan and Sigue Sigue Sputnik - no connection between the 2 groups implied or inferred.
Top Notch! Hey, have you considered checking out Death From Above 1979? It's vocals, fuzz bass and drums... and super dancy.
Rival Sons are the most underappreciated rock band in the world.
Dope band. This song is very Soundgarden-esque, in my opinion, too.
Electric man. Love them ❤
The Soundgarden song you're most likely thinking of is 4th of July
Wicked band. Seen them like at Brixton Academy
Jay Buchannan would possibly have to be my favourite newer music vocalist. Rival Sons are such a great band, I've been following them for years and wish nothing but continued success for them. Jay and Scott did a great version of the Stone's Wild Horses for The Blues Kitchen. I would highly recommend it.
Hi Justin. Love your channel...keep up the great work! Please check out the band Leprous. Einar Solberg has an incredible voice. I would suggest Castaway Angels to start. Cheers!
rival sons arethe real deal friends best rock band ever...bar none.
Completely got Soundgarden!
Try Shooting Stars next Justin. In fact just listen to their entire back catalogue 👍
Sounds like Soundgarden with Myles Kennedy on Vox!
Totally got Soundgarden from the intro!
Would like to hear your thoughts on tash sultana. Any version of "jungle".
If I may suggest another. Belong by True I.
Well worth a listen.
GREAT f**king band~! Every album a real winner. Check out the entire catalog Justin, you will love it all. QUALITY band in every way. Check out the youtube clip 'Rival Sons - Face of Light (Acoustic)' ~ Powerful vocal
Anyone who loves Jay Buchanan's voice should also have a listen to his old band, Buchanan's 2004 album "All Understood."
Something very Smashing Pumpkins about that riff
Hi Justin. When you get time could you do a piece on the work of David Bowie in the 70’s? You know you want to. Keep up the good work…..Respect…..Diglitpie….👌👌👌
Ere Justin when are you gonna do a video about the fucking beauties that are Mastodon? Also well done for the Blazing Saddles quote on the Nick Cave episode. Cap doffed young man.
I've seen them 6 times.
Best live band in the world
Anyone here ever heard of or listen to the band The Fumes? Probably not. Killer sounding simple no frills rock. How about get real cool and start listening to Left Lane Cruiser..
Excellent! Always interesting to hear some professional views of the song structure. By the way, the kid on the bike is the son of the Rival Sons guitarist Scott Holiday. Even more handsome than his father...
Also the video connects to their previous Nobody Wants To Die video, which is really really fun. The kind of video they used to do in the olden days of MTV.
ua-cam.com/video/IF1lYMiBcWc/v-deo.html
I want a justin hawkins Honda Monkey review
You should check out No One Survives by Nekrogoblikon if you havent seen it.
One of the best videos ever.
Sounds rather 90s Brit pop to me (Blur for example) as well as the mentioned grunge.
I can't come to Wembley arena on February 3rd sold out
Same mode as the suicide tune, as in yesterday's episode, but on G# rather than F#, and great use of chord IV (C#min).. The self-distruction vibe is indeed evident, but by no means a sine qua non for use of the sonic territory under advisement.. You could have a song like this about Asgard, or Norman Gothic architecture, if you were feeling all Christian about it.. Or a bonza paganfest, shouldst The Spirit move you when The Muse did groove you... Nice one Justin! 🎶👍
