Your numbers are solid, in the last 5 years we replaced our fleet of 25 three-quarter ton trucks with GMC Duramax and that is what we are seeing if not better.
I just put my name on a list yesterday at my local GMC dealership for a 2500HD AT4X AEV. It will be my only vehicle and my daily driver. A little towing. Looking forward to making it happen. Great video.
Love the look of Denalis. The hood and front on looks great and the interior is top notch. I have an F350 dually Platinum Edition and if I ever get in the market for a new truck, I’m definitely going to look at a Denali dually.
Just sold my 2017 dually. Pulling our 40 ft 5th wheel, at 17,000 lbs. got about 12 mpg going 65mph. Empty I got 25 mpg going 55 mph. Usually about 17-18 empty. Didn't buy it for fuel mileage. Got it to work and it did that. I now have a 23 1500 with the 3.0. Got 32 mpg today at 58 mph.
I moved from a Camry to a 2023 2500 Denali Duramax. It is a beast. I love all the cameras especially when trying to park. I love being up high and people definitely see you coming. The ride is amazing and I feel safer in a large truck. Gas is not great but I feel safer. It sits in the driveway instead of daily truck during the week. Plus it is too high to get in the garage.
I like the updated GMCs. I currently have a 21 3500HD SRW Denali and I typically get 16-18 mpg with mix of city and highway. My best 50 mile economy is 33.1 mpg which is insane. My best 400 mile average is 22.7 mpg which is still not bad. Seeing over 800 miles of range is awesome. When towing I’ve averaged 9.5-10 mpg with 43’ North Point.
I had a 2017 GMC 2500 with Duramax and 37 gallon tank. I could nearly make it from Los Alamos, NM to Fort Worth, Texas on one tank. The truck also had a 7” lift and 37/13,5” tires. That was empty and towing was a different story but highway mileage on 3/4 ton diesels is not bad.
I have this Truck with the 6.2 Liter V8 Gasser that I had Procharger put on a Turbo unit on and it has 560 HP I love it but gas mileage is not good. But I still love it for what it is!
I love driving trucks like this Duramax Denali, but a lot of my driving is fairly short trips and I live in Michigan, so much of the year that means a vehicle like this would never warm up properly. Currently I keep an old Dodge 1 ton that I use to pull my RV in the summer and store it in the winter. My daily driver is a vehicle much more suited to my normal short trips.
20-22mpg on the highway with these new 2024 HD trucks is definitely possible, just break in the engine a bit more. I own one myself, and the fuel economy is noticeably better than my 2022 6.2L 1500 Denali. I will say the ride is a bit firmer, but still comfortable and smooth ... outside of that, it's an amazing truck by comparison to the 1500. Way cooler looking, more space, more capacity etc. it's my daily driver coming from the 22 refresh 1500.
Thanks for sharing I would really like you to give us a little bit of information on that exhaust break is it any better than 2020 I do trust your opinion so please Make it happen
In the last 5 years we hav replaced our entire fleet of 25 trucks with the 3/4 ton Duramax so far are numbers are showing a huge savings in fuel economy, and repairs compared to our Ford and dodge fleet costs. Trucks typically get replaced at 250 K MILES waiting to see how far the 10 speed Allison transmission will take us.👍👊😎
To answer the question in the beginning of the video, I live smack dab in the middle of Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio, there’s really no good fast food restaurants here… but I typically eat McDonald’s and typically get a Big Mac no pickle.
I intend to go into the 3/4 ton for safety. In 2020 I was involved in an accident that made me aware of the importance of being in a large vehicle. My F150 did the job but I would like bigger.Maybe I'm only traumatized🤪 Thanks for the vid!
My Whataburger favorite is the A1 Thick & Hardy but they don’t make it anymore…😢 I get a Whataburger with bacon and cheese and add grilled onions & grilled jalapeños on a toasted bun. I pair it up with medium fries and medium sweet tea.
Thanks for the content. Safe to say most of us don’t really need the 3/4 ton trucks capability we want them for other reasons like always having enough truck. That 3.0 diesel getting better fuel economy than Tacoma’s, canyons, and pretty much every truck on the road sure hits a sweet spot. Wouldn’t mind a smaller vehicle for daily driving but what’s the point of getting a little truck that’s much less capable and burns more fuel than the 1/2 ton.
I enjoy your thoughts; nevertheless, I couldn't help but notice you didn't mention that you missed your wide track axle and the shorter turning radius. Of course this truck is a little bit shorter; but even so. I always wondered if that maneuverability was worth the terrible price you pay in right quality with those 19.5 tires
I always buy 3/4 ton and above. This way I rarely find that I don't have enough truck for the given job. In all fairness my trucks have never been daily drivers. I've never been a GMC or Chevy fan but that Denali is beautiful and the benefits of the Duramax are becoming undeniable. Another great video JD.
Only reason I'm going to a 3/4 ton is payload capacity. With the family, dogs and camper we'd be cutting it close to the limit of 1/2 tons if we upgrade the RV. I want to buy one truck and keep it so it's better to get a 3/4 ton to have room to grow.
I had a 2018 3/4 ton Denali duramax on a relatively flat free way 300 miles I’d average 25 mpg. I had the Chevy shake in that truck real bad, I went through 6 sets of tires and nothing helped. It sucks because the aesthetics and interior were the best IMO. In 2020 I upgraded to a new body Denali duramax, I had have a tough time getting 20 on the same trip. The steering in that truck was extremely sensitive for some reason. The size of the truck is what hurts the economy. I got rid of that one and now I’m in a 23 LZO AT4. It’s the perfect truck, I don’t tow much but I average 25 mpg running around town. I haven’t took it on a trip yet but I expect 27mpg max. I’m eagerly waiting for banks to release a derringer for it so I can control the regens.
My 2020 Chevy 2500HD will get 21-22 on the interstate at 72-74 mph all the time. My city drives are 15-18, not a lot of stop and go. Towing my tractor 8000 pounds plus trailer 13 to 14 on the highway. 10-13 Towing the travel trailer, like pulling a sail. All calculations by hand not the DIC
Wendy's is located here in Columbus, OH. (Dublin) to be exact. Wendy (Melinda Lou) lives here in Upper Arlington at least part of the year were I live. My go to Dave's single with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion, with water.
Big Truck Big RV I'm really considering this Denali Utimate 2500 HD, but at the same time the new AT4X 2500 HD really speaks to my "overlander spirit". I'm really curious about your opinion on that particular vehicle, because I know for a fact that it will take a significant fuel hit simply based off of the nature of the vehicle.
If you compare that truck to one with a gas engine, the fuel economy is certainly much better with the diesel. The other thing to consider is that the HD truck will probably outlast the half ton. Fuel economy is only one factor in the cost of ownership. I wonder if the overall cost of ownership is significantly more for an HD over a half ton. Is the HD more reliable, requiring fewer major repairs over the life of the truck?
Any chance that you will be trading in your 1/2 ton on purchasing this truck? It appears to me that you have a great job. You seem to enjoy it. I’m jealous. Haha
Have you noticed dead pedal in the 24 Duramax? I just did a test drive on a 24 LTZ. From a dead stop if you hit the throttle quick at least 1/4 or 1/3 down, it had dead pedal for almost 3 seconds. I mean i hardly responded then hit real hard. Also driving around the diesel just didn't seen responsive till it spooled up. I found it rather annoying. Seemed like a lot of turbo lag. What's your experience? Did the truck learn and improve?
For me, a diesel is more efficient all the way around. My '20 ecodiesel towing gets better mpg than my 5.0 f150 did. 2nd as for not towing well I'm getting better in town than what the 5.0l f150 did on the highway. Looking at the exact same truck color and all. Don't need a HD all the time but need it from time to time.
I live in Alberta Canada so we run off the Imperial gallon and my truck tells me that unladen I get 8.9- 9.1L/100KM on the highway on average which would put me around 30+ MPG Imperial
Thank you for your review. We recently bought a 34 foot travel trailer. The gvw is just 10,000 pounds. Would your half ton handle that camper easily on large hills?
I have one and when I ordered my denali ultimate, I was told they didn't have the option which is weird. So I picked mine up last month and asked parts and they didn't have anything for the ultimates. Lower trims from GMC have the option but not the Ultimates from what I've heard so far. From what I have heard about them on the Ultimate's its supposed to go in front of the Trailer Brake controller in that little cutout but who really knows
I used to go to Corpus Christi a lot in the years past and I recently just went there again and sorry but it has gone to crap a lot of crime and people streetracing all night on ocean drive with no police in sight alot of migrants are there also I won’t be there again it has lost its shine for tourism
I sure as shit don't eat the SWEET TEA at whataburger. Sour nasty shit that tastes like it was left on the counter overnight. I get dr pepper with no ice.
Just got a 24 Denali yesterday. By far the best 3/4 ton truck I have ever driven. Inside and out I like it
The duramax has a pretty incredible fuel mileage difference in break in. They regularly get 20+mpg on the highway once broken in
Thanks, Awesome breakdown. I'm considering this as my next ride.
I just sold a 2019 Denali dually diesel and I could get 21 mpg on the highway not towing and 9.5 mpg towing my 5th wheel. 14-16 mpg in the city.

I have a 2021 Denali 2500HD. If I drive the speed limit 65mph I average 24 mpg. Not bad at all for a diesel.
I get the same in my '19

I eat at In And Out Burger most of the time. I have a single cheeseburger, fries and Diet Coke. Everything with grilled onions on the burger
I intend to go into the 3/4 ton for safety. In 2020 I was involved in an accident that made me aware of the importance of being in a large vehicle.

I love Whataburger!!

If I am near a WB, then its an A1 Thick and Hearty (provided they are on sale)

My 21 L5P with banks CAI, derringer and 5w40 synthetic oil gets 20mpg at 70-75mph. If I go 55mph it’ll get 28, at least according to the computer

Would you buy 2500HD over 1500 for resale value? Didn't hear the big picture view as it relates to resale.
Have you noticed dead pedal in the 24 Duramax? I just did a test drive on a 24 LTZ. From a dead stop if you hit the throttle quick at least 1/4 or 1/3 down, it had dead pedal for almost 3 seconds. Buy the model with less features and those crazy electronic features and expect less problems and maybe it could run good in long term.
Do you find this truck less maneuverable than the F450 from a turning radius perspective?
I live in Alberta Canada so we run off the Imperial gallon and my truck tells me that unladen I get 8.9- 9.1L/100KM on the highway on average which would put me around 30+ MPG Imperial
Chick-fil-A 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for your review. We recently bought a 34 foot travel trailer. The gvw is just 10,000 pounds. Would your half ton handle that camper easily on large hills?
Does the truck have upfitter switches?

#5 toasted buns and jalapeños
Is it possible to get the ultimate Denali seats setup in a Denali package? A la cart upgrade
Not this specific truck
I'd rather have a Cummins
I used to go to Corpus Christi a lot in the years past and I recently just went there again and sorry but it has gone to crap a lot of crime and people streetracing all night on ocean drive with no police in sight alot of migrants are there also I won’t be there again it has lost its shine for tourism
I sure as shit don't eat the SWEET TEA at whataburger. Sour nasty shit that tastes like it was left on the counter overnight.
I get dr pepper with no ice.
Tough choice between a cheap Porsche 918 (Cayman) or this. I know you cannot compare the two.
Out 85k to 90k
$95-$105 for the ultimate.
Whataburger is so gross lol sorry
ITS NOT AN ALLISON
It is Allison approved though.
Overpriced plastic!
When i fill up the bottom deasil, kilometers is 1180 .on my 350 Denali 2021 .
