    Eric and Allison you’ll be fine. My family is originally from HK. HK was formerly British territory until China regained it in 1997. The 2 main languages there are Cantonese and English. Haven’t been there in years since all my relatives are here in the US. Definitely try some dim sum, that’s what HK is famous for. Kowloon is a great city for shopping since the exchange rate is low. Also, HK is known for custom made suits so Eric if you need one this is the place to get it. Their subway system is impressive, efficient and pristine. In my opinion it’s the best way to commute in the city, so enjoy! 😀

    You might try Macau for a sidetrip. Not only for the casinos, but Macau was Portuguese (with all that architecture and food) before it went back to China in 1999. Hong Kong, of course, was British. If you do go to Macau, a jetfoil will take a little less than an hour, but the unique experience might be a bus using the new bridge that connects Macau with HK.

    Hope you felt better..... Hong Kong is a fabulous place to be... Or at least, it was was when I was a small child back in the mid 1960's...... Nathan Road was always the main shopping area, the Ocean Terminal (which probably doesn't exist anymore) was another amazing place to be, and SOOO many wonderful beaches! Repulse Bay, Coffee Bay, Big-Wave-Bay... places I loved as a kid...!
    Of course the airport is very different now, seeing as it's now built on Lantau Island, whereas when I lived there it was at Kai-Tak with the long runway pointing out to sea..... We used to go there sometimes just for a trip-out, to drink sodas, eat ice cream, and to watch the planes coming in and out.... those coming in had to do a near 45-degree turn over the city to line-up with the runway - it was a very spectacular and scary landing!!! :-D
    Oh Hong Kong... I loved it, and would be almost scared to go back after 50 years, but yeah, I'd still love to visit again.. :-)
    Enjoy it... :-)

    • @angelnia86
      @angelnia86 5 років тому +1

      Some countries you visit require you to have a ticket to show that you intend to leave the country. The onward booking website they talk about charges around $12 to book a flight for you, this gives you a ticket to show to border control or airline staff to prove that you intend to leave the country. Then the website cancels the flight as the purpose of the ticket has been fulfilled. It saves the person who requires it the time, effort and money of booking and cancelling their own flight if they don't need it.

      @@kikimg1 Yes lol a lot of backpackers/travelling people use it as they don't know for sure when they will be leaving. So instead of booking a ticket to leave in a week, then they decide there is more they want to see and want to stay another week and have to go through the hassle of cancelling their tickets, they will just wait and book a ticket to their next destination when they are ready.

    If you stayed around until like June would've been even hotter for u. I was in Guangzhou China in the same year as you two and I had to shower 4 times a day. It's known to be humid there.

    Hey guys! Don't forget Macau. It has a lot to see and not only casinos. The food is far better than Hong Kong's. I live here and I know the city like the back of my hand. Let me show you around if it's not too late.

    Love watching your seemingly endless adventures. Your travels to Slovenia a few months ago inspired me to plan a six-week trip to the Balkans. I have a travel question. When in a country, one of my first tasks is to get a pre-paid SIM card from a local provider, but the down-side is that along with the new SIM, one has a new (local) phone number, which poses a problem for those who try to send texts to the phone number of the original SIM. For example, I've scheduled a ride on a Flixbus from Ljubljana to Zagreb, but should some schedule change occur, Flixbus would try to contact me with a text to my old phone number associated with my US SIM. The ease with which you navigate the world makes me think you've figured this conundrum out, so I'd be ever so grateful for any insight you might be able to offer. Thanks, and I hope your adventures are as much fun in real life as you make them for your followers.

      Or you could apply for a pocket wifi that's specific to a country or several countries. That's what I did when I was in southern France with family for a few weeks and we were 4 people connected to the pocket wifi. It was delivered to a collection point closest to us and when we were done, we just sealed it in the given envelope and dropped it off in the post.

      So happy to hear that! We have an international plan with T-mobile, which is slow but it allows us to be connected everywhere and keep the same phone number. But if you're going to be switching out sims, I recommend getting a Google Voice number. You can receive texts there and the number never changes 👍
