  • WATERCOLOUR Do's and Don'ts | Painting swan feathers and reflections in water
    Hi Guys!
    In this video I give you my best do's and don'ts for painting in watercolour whilst taking you through the process of my black swan painting. Some of them you may know and some of them you may not but I have included quite a lot of things that, had I known as a beginner, would have saved me a lot of time finding out the hard way- through making mistakes!- so I hope you find it helpful. So if you are a beginner to watercolour or are getting frustrated because you can't get the results or effect you want in your paintings, then this video might help. I also show you how I approach painting feathers and reflections in water. That said, there is no right or wrong way in watercolour-so if you find a way of working that suits you and your style, stick with it! I also welcome any comments or questions in the comments section and do my best to respond to them, so please ask away.
    Take care everyone
    Sarah x

    I've been following several art channels and I have to say yours is definitely one of the best channels I've ever seen. Your explanations are always so clear and precise and you're obviously incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your paintings with us and keep up the good work!

    Sarah so many wonderful techniques and tips for a more successful painting and enjoyable experience too! I love my Paint Puck for the bottom of my water cups! but I have a friend that refuses to spend money on "frills" and they use the rubberized shelf liner, cut to fit the bottom of their water cups to provide a "scrubbing" surface for their brushes. I have seen other painters here on UA-cam use it as well! Lovely Bird bye the way, Black is so difficult and you pulled it off seeming so easily!

    You are the most underrated watercolour artist hands down. I know watercolour supplies can be very expensive so it would be reallllly nice if you made a patron and uploaded real time tutorials, that way you'll have another source of income and more people will know you hopefully lol. I dunno I just feel so sad seeing a god tier artist like you not get enough attention . Another thing I found out is keep an eye for popular art trends that will please the public eye but you also have fun while doing it. Some stuff I noticed are popular that you will probably have fun doing now are: I recreated a drawing/painting I made when I was a kid, Expensive vs cheap art supplies which you ddi do with winsor and newton which got a lot of views and so on and so fourth. Also I hope your private life is going well since you did say your life right now is pretty rough.

      Thank you for such a lovely comment! 🤗 It's really made my day! Some great suggestions for future videos too which I shall definitely have a think about. I don't have time to devote to a patreon at the moment as I also have a (non art!) job but it's a great idea and something I would love to do in the future. Take care 😊

      @@SarahNewburyArt also I am thinking of upgrading from winsor and newton corman, camel artists watercolour paint to professional winsor and newton in tubes. I really want to get Daniel Smith and mission gold but in the country I live those aren't available. Derwent and winsor and newton are basically the big guys lol. I heard winsor and newton browns aren't very good, does that remain true when you mix it yourself? I have so many questions about winsor and newton professional range water colours you are def the best watercolour artist I know so I'll ask my other questions. I heard that winsor and newton pro range is good for botanical painting bc it layers well but I love my browns since I do portraits and seeing the browns of winsor and newton pro range being weak is kinda sad. I recently started doing commissions so I wanted to get these buttons the browns being weak doesnt stop me from getting these. I create my own creatures that are usually furry as well and they are usually prussian blue. I find prussian blue to be a beautiful dark deep colour.Are the blues of winsor and newton pro good?Do you suggest I get them?

    Your tips are spot on but wow I'm loving your swan and how you you layered in the feathers and created that delicious indigo and quin gold green! One of the best tutorials I've seen in a long time! Thank you, Sarah! 🤗🤗

    Most helpful: DO BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF! This is probably the hardest thing I’ve had to learn with watercolor Sarah. I can’t recall any art or craft I’ve learned that required this much patience except knitting, lol. But I did master knitting. I have many abandoned knitting projects laying around to prove it. Watercolor does take time and I have a limited amount of that because of physical restrictions so it’s taking even more time. I do have to say it is worth it because when I do a piece I’m happy with I know I’ve experienced a little bit of Heaven. I know you know what I mean.😉 Blessings to you!

    The don't paint on partially dry paper tip was very helpful to me because I've been getting those blooms and didn't realize why. Thanks for another great video 😊

    Thank you very much ! I found it a very difficult medium and it looks so easy .. beautiful done ! It looks like you are very comfortable by using watercolour paint … can you tell me what kind of pencils you are using ?

      Thank you Esther! Watercolour is a lot of fun but I have made a lot of 'not so good' paintings to get to where I am now and there is still a lot I need to learn- so keep practising! The coloured pencils are prismacolor pencils 😊

    This is so lovely! Thank you for the tips. Would you consider this a mixed media piece since you used colored pencils for the finishing touches? I'm never sure how to label my paintings when I use both mediums in one piece.

    • @SarahNewburyArt
      @SarahNewburyArt  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much Diane. I think yes, technically, this piece would have to be considered mixed media even though the coloured pencil was just used to add a few finishing touches! 😊
