I absolutely loved the crocodile 🐊 , he's amazing in the subtly of detail. This subject was just perfect for showing off the granulation . Stunning the eye especially draws you in with it's gaze.❤😊 amazing.
Hiya Sarah, Two granulating colours that you may be interested in are both in the Daniel Smith Primatek range and are: Rhodonite and Green Apatite Genuine. The Rhodonite is very similar in colour to genuine Rosé Madder which you mentioned in another video. It's a really lovely colour and very useful in its own or as a mixer. The Green Apatite Genuine granulates heavily on rough or some cold pressed watercolour paper. In mass tone it's a very natural looking olive green but seperates out leaving a lovely yellow brown settling into the paper while the yellow green shines on the surface, a really useful and very natural looking colour. Thanks for another great video, take care, David.x
I am just so excited for you! I remember mixing some granulating paints when I found out that it was NOT a manufacturer defect in the paint! Yeah, I was so young! I wish I could remember the yellow that I mixed up, I do recall it was a transparent yellow with orange-brown flecks that settled for the grain aspect. I am just at a loss to remember that mixture. I love the crocodile eye and I hope that you continue to create and share your progress with mixing these paints. Oh! As I watched you finish the swatching I thought if you just flipped the paper upside down, you would have the darker mast tone to the outside of each color, just a thought for you next time. You are truly inspirational and so delightful to watch, thank you.
I love the tip about flipping the paper upside down, thank you - and I'm excited by all the different granulating colours that everyone is suggesting so it looks like this palette will be expanding in the near future! Take care 😊
Still have to wait to afford my first supergranutating Schmincke. Thank you for your video, that shows waiting is worth it 🙏 Gorgeous painting, stoning reflection
Thank you Petra! I did notice the supergranulation watercolours are on sale at Jackson's at the moment but the sets were out of stock when I looked. You may be able to grab a few single tubes though? So glad you liked the painting 😊
If you’re looking for more granulating colours I completely recommend Schmincke’s Volcano Yellow, which is one of the only granulating yellows that exist. It’s single-pigment like French Ultramarine and Potter’s Pink, and to me it’s a must-have. Alone it’s very boring but together with other colours it’s just *mwah* chef’s kiss.
So pretty! I love setting up new palettes. I have a full one for each brand but I’m thinking of taking all my favorite colors and putting them into one big palette. Love the crocodile eye you did too 😍❤️
Thank you Naomi! I love setting up new palette's too- the possibilities are endless! I was thinking it would be fun to do one for each season as well 😊
Thank you for this beautiful video. I love all of your palette videos😊 I would actually appreciate seeing you use buff titanium, as I've only seen it used for stucco buildings etc.. but I'm more interested in wildlife 😌
Granulating colors are amazing. However, I've been researching lightfast ratings and Moonglow and cobalt teal are notorious for being fugitive, fading away in a short period of time. I look forward to checking out the Schmincke granulating colors.
This is what is in my granulating palette if you want ideas: (the most granulating options among various brands) burnt umber pbr7 , pbr33, pbr11, roman szmal shadow violet, pb35, pg50, goethe, roman szmal aquarius green, pv15, pb29, pv16, ds undersea green, pg26, pg18, py42, ds serpentine green, buff titanium, pr233, pbk11, ds green apatite. I only included the DS greens because I already had them.. I won't buy from them again.
I second all of these recommendations. I cant imagine my palette without roman szmal mineral violet and shadow violet. Roman szmal misty morning and cobalt blue deep pb74 from any brand are quite interesting options as well.

Thank you for the suggestions David - much appreciated! 😊
Wow Thanks for showing real art work instead of simply doing swatches. Now I have a better idea of how these colors can be used.
My pleasure 😊
Holy crap that's amazing👏
Awesome painting.
Thank you so much 😀
Trop beau ! Bravo ! :)
Thank you so much!
Undersea green! DS say no more lol
😊 I've heard other artist's mention this colour too- I may have to get it. thank you!

The reflections in the eye are brilliant!
Thank you so much Cheralynn- I love painting eyes 😊
Absolutely stunning study. Looking forward to seeing you use more of this palette.
Thank you so much Geraldine! 😊
WOW ! So beautiful. You are very talented.
Thank you so much 😊
My favorite granulating paint is Winsor Newton Manganese Blue Hue. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for the suggestion Fran! I'll add it to my wish list 😊
I’m about to fill a new palette and found this video, had to subscribe! The eye painting is gorgeous!❤️ I love granulating watercolor, too!
I'm so glad you liked the painting and thank you for subscribing! 😊
I love how all the colors look together, so beautiful! I think Minnesota Pipestone (ds) would also be a lovely addition to this palette.💗
Thank you Lindsay and thank you for the suggestion! Minnesota Pipestone sounds intriguing! 😊
@@SarahNewburyArt It's a beautiful, softly granulating, earthy dusty pink☺️
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
👍
😊
This is what I have done too, put my granulating watercolours in one pallet. They are currently drying out. Might need to top them up again. 😀
Lovely Gillina! There's nothing quite like a new palette! Enjoy 😊
You might want to replace DS moonglow with a mix of your own subbing the PR177.. it's fugitive.
Thank you- once I've used this tube up, I will mix my own 😊
This is amazing, did you have a photograph as reference? I am new to your channel but will be working my way through your videos.
Hi Sue! The reference pic I used was from pixabay.com. The link is in the description box below the video 😊
