I have this bag, it just arrived in silver. One of the bottom aluminum pieces was bent, no biggie. But as for durability, just do not crush the rims or the bag will drag on itself when you raise or lower it to resize. But it is so so so heavy. MINE was also 11.8 pounds. If you go carryon only, with US domestic, you should be okay weight wise. But good luck carrying it on overseas airlines. Although it is very well made and the interior is plush, that internal fabric is a dust and cat hair magnet. I love the idea, but for me, with the weight, it will be relegated to car camping or travel. Also the dimensions do not comply exactly with all US luggage bins due to width and depth. It's a great idea, but they need to rethink the polycarbonate material, and do a lighter weight version. It is just too heavy.

The absence of the grand canyon of rails in the middle of a suitcase is such a great packing feature. I dearly hope they come out with a version 2 as I do believe they are on the right track. It took Nomad Lane 4 versions to achieve perfection on the Bento bag. Thank you so much for all of your honest reviews. You really are the best!

This luggage looked so interesting. I actually just bought a new medium suitcase in the beginning of December. I was taking a car trip so size didn't matter and I knew I was going to need warm weather and cold weather clothes. I could have made them fit in a carry on but just decided to get a medium bag instead. It looked really durable too, although I gotta say I was looking forward to you scandalizing the neighbors by doing it outside.
I've seen this recently advertised and thought it was too good to be true. Thank you for showing all the fantastic features and durability of this luggage. Definitely would like to see an update after traveling with it and expanding for souvenirs.
Wow, what a great idea for luggage! And as usual, your review is very good and very informative. We just went to Italy and we bought a bag while there so we had room for everything we wanted to bring back. Then we checked one of our other bags on the way back home. This would have solved that problem.

Does anyone else have a hard time cramming everything pack into their suitcase even if they’re not a shopping? I swear, I can never get my stuff as compact/compressed in the road as I can at home. I often have to release the expansion dipper on my bag just because the clothing side of my bag (which doesn’t have any new items!) swells in size enough that close my bag has become so difficult. I keep telling myself I need to leave more space in that half of my bag when I pack, but the temptation to add more clothes so that I might be able to get away with not doing laundry is too great!
10/10 for the idea...4/10 for the non-standard sizing and weight! It's a shame; I love the idea of taking something like this to Europe and filling it with souvenirs! But it's too big and heavy to be a carry-on, so I'll have to stick to my usual MO, and just pack an empty duffel inside my checked hardside luggage.

I usually stick to small souvenir items because of space issues but if I had extra space I would definitely pick some type of home decor to bring back home. I have been waiting more than a year for this luggage to be delivered but Velo has ignored my emails. There are hundreds of others who are in a similar position and Velo gone MIA.
I finally received mine but it does not conform to carry on size so the reason I bought it flew out the window. Total waste of money unless I want to check in luggage, and I have high quality, lighter-weight luggage for that.
I like that companies are thinking outside the box for new innovations. But, the lack of handles would be a definite No for me. I understand that the indents can be used to lift the case into the overhead, but there are other times that a suitcase needs to be lifted. Sometimes there is a short flight of stairs, maybe at the entrance to an Airbnb or when taking public transportation to and from the airport, and lack of a handle would be a problem. Even at home before and after my trip. I come home from a trip and want to take my suitcase upstairs to unpack in my bedroom on the second floor. I need a handle. And, the other drawback is the weight of the bag at 11+ lbs. I respect the effort at the new innovation, but it would unfortunately be a No for me. Thank you for scouting out and reviewing all these new carry-ons and personal items.

Don't waste your money. My VELO bag handle was broken on my FIRST trip using the bag. The pegs that allow the handle to be adjustable were stripped so now the handle only fully extends (but it won't lock there) and it won't lock in the closed position. The bag is impossible to carry with the handle fully extended and since there is no other handle on the bag that allows you to carry it - the bag is completely useless. The biggest waste of money I have ever had. I travel a lot so I will be going back to the $35 bag I bought at a discount store and has lasted over 40 trips. Very disappointing.
Buyer Beware!!! I bought the Velo, also loving and falling for this amazing concept. But what they fail to tell you is that virtually NO major AIRLINE will accept this as carry on. It is too deep to be accepted by Air Canada and a number of US airlines. They will reject it and require it to be checked in. Great concept but poorly executed- you have been warned!!!

I find it helpful to fold your laundry. Not always do pleasant, but definitely saves spaces.

Yes unfortunately because it is a checked bag disguised as a carry on, it’s still the weight of a checked bag.
