Trumpet #10: Playing A Piece of Music and How To Practice
Вставка

- We're going to walk through playing a simple piece together, but what I really want you to take away is this process for learning things:
1. Count out all your rhythms.
2. Name all your notes IN RHYTHM.
3. Play all the fingerings on your instrument while you name your notes IN RHYTHM.
Finally...
4. Try to play the piece.
-Slowly
-In small sections if necessary.
5. As you get comfortable start practicing longer sections closer to the real tempo of the piece until you can play the whole thing at full speed.
You may be tempted to skip steps, but usually it will result in you wasting tons of time. If you just go through these steps patiently you can learn anything with enough time and effort. So go forth and make music!

Thanks so much for your well composed series of lessons. I am a retired vocalist who started playing trumpet long long ago. I`ve decided to buy an instrument and start learning again. This series is going to be enormously helpful.
Nice! Glad to help. 🙂
I’m on my sisters account right now, but I just wanted to say I watched your trumpet videos and you have been a great help in my journey with the trumpet. Just a few weeks ago I was struggling and having burnouts of how much work I was putting to the trumpet without seeing much success. But with your awesome funny and easy to follow videos I have greatly increased and can go from low g (I think that’s what you call it) to c on the third partial! Also my rhythm (the main thing that’s been confusing) has gotten better and I think with just a tiny bit of more practice and maybe even rewatching some of your videos I can be prepared to play in marching band (were playing believer by imagine dragons). I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you!
That's awesome! Glad I could help. I haven't had a chance to work on these videos in a few years, but I hope to resume again some time. If you have any questions or requests, feel free to leave them in the comments. Good luck with marching band and everything else!
This video just like other of your videos was really helpful,i would like to get more tips on how to read more complex sheets, also i need lesson of harmonic and melodic minor, would really like to get a feedback
Thanks!
If you watch the lesson from this series about building major scales, minor scales basically work the same way but if you use the whole step/half step pattern from the note A instead of the note C. That's "Natural Minor." For harmonic minor replace G with G#, and for Melodic minor replace F and G with F# and G# on the way up, BUT still play F natural and G natural on the way down.
As far as reading, what's the issue with the more complex thing you're trying to read? Do you not understand the rhythm, the pitch, or some sort of other type of notation?
Thanks for the advice I got so excited when I played it because I never learnt music so thank you.
Glad to help! Feel free to leave comments if you have any questions or requests.
I haven't gotten to work on these videos in the last few years since I've been so busy at the studio, but I hope to resume again some day.
@@MTSstudiosmedia would love to see an updated trumpet series some time soon there really isnt that much trumpet tutorials
@@dibejac8391 Thanks for the comment! So my phase two for brass instruments is mainly to do the following things:
-Expand on rhythm
-Improve range and embouchure by doing lip slurs
-Really start getting tonal vocabulary dialed in by learning all your major scales
-Get started on doing some book work so you can improve independently
-Projects, projects, projects!
I don't know how soon I'll be able to do a new series, since things have been so busy lately, but if you have any one-off requests I'd give them a look. At the very least I might be able to point to some other pre-existing resources that I'd recommend.
@@MTSstudiosmedia sounds good im looking forward for it😁
