221: YOSEMITE VALLEY Fall Color Travel Guide - TOP SPOTS to See Fall Foliage

- In this week’s virtual travel guide, I’m excited to partner with Visit Yosemite | Madera County ( @VisitYosemiteMaderaCounty ) as I take you on a Yosemite road trip to see my TOP SPOTS for Fall colors in Yosemite Valley. Yosemite National Park typically peaks later than the Eastern Sierra Fall foliage, but late October is the perfect time to see the Autumn leaves pop with Fall colors along Southside Drive, Cooks Meadows, El Capitan Meadow, and Tunnel View.
Over the last month we’ve been exploring California’s incredible Eastern Sierra Autumn colors, and this week I want to take you into the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to one of my favorite places in the world, which also happens to be a wonderful area to explore the Fall foliage. Yosemite National Park features all kinds of Fall colors, allowing different parts of the park to peak at different times. In the Yosemite Valley you’ll find big leaf maple, sugar maple, elm, dogwood, black cottonwood, and black oak, just to name a few...and if you’re looking for the classic quaking aspen, head up to Tioga Pass for some more vibrant Fall colors.
The BEST WAY to experience Fall colors in the Yosemite Valley is to hike the Valley Loop Trail. This 11-mile hike can be split up and accessed all through the valley as it meanders through the forest and meadows beside the Merced River. This trail is often blanketed with Fall leaves and is filled with views of many famous Yosemite points of interest, including Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, Three Brothers, Cathedral Rocks, Sentinel Rock, and Half Dome.

I think most people think of Yosemite and it’s spring/summer waterfalls (understandably) but fall in Yosemite can be magical & I always encourage my friends to visit as the air is crisp and the leaves are golden (and the crowds are light!😉) Wishing you happy adventures!
