I bought the ms271 new about 4 years ago, i used it hard for the first 6 months, and have used it many times since. Only starting issue i ever had was caused by fuel that wasnt very fresh, and the same fuel caused issues with other saws i own. So no issues with the saw itself. Im planning on getting a new stihl bar and😅 chain, same specs. 20" bar with the .325 chain setup is a perfect match for this 50cc saw. Cheers, Chris
Thank you. I bought a new 271 about 6 months ago and haven't used it. I did last weekend but wouldn't start so I gave up. I watched your video--followed it--boom it started it LOL I can cut some woods tomorrow..the cold weather is upon us
Just picked up the 271. I’m now kicking myself because I wish I shelled out the extra 200 for the 261. But hey, the 271 is a great saw. I enjoy running it. I’ll buy a 440 down the road. Want a nice muscle saw. they see like firearms, the more the merrier
Thanks for sharing cause I just purchased my first ever brand new Stihl Farm Boss 271 and love it. Great saw for firewood use and I especially take very good care of it hoping to get a lifetime of use out of it. Just the saw I was needing for my firewood neeeds
@@Tyler-ut6st yes, when I very first bought it I had trouble with it starting and idling correctly and the dealership wouldn't honor their warranty either. I returned it 4x's just for them to tell me nothing was wrong with it and the last time they wanted to charge me a shop charge and I hadn't even used it yet. I ended up taking it to another dealership and they finally got it running correctly and covered it under the warranty. It cut good and everything after that but I ended up selling it and buying a Echo CS590 Timberwolf and I love it. I sent it to Iowa Performance Saw's and had a muffler mod and retune and it's a beast. It only cost $400 brand new and came with a 5yr warranty. It's a way better built saw and it's way stronger than the 271. It has the magnesium casing instead of the plastic, adjustable oiler, electronic ignition switch, decompression button and 3/8 chain.
@@dentondunn4346 thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind! Mine is still under warranty so hopefully the place i bought it from won't charge me anything. Dropped it with them this morning and they said they'd take a look at it. I think the carburetor might be bad
@@Tyler-ut6st I wish you the best of luck with yours, I just bought mine from a crappy dealership. Then again the Stihl company didn’t work with my dealership and help me none. I’ll never buy another new Stihl, they done me in with them
I ended up going with the MS261 C-M. Phenomenal saw. I've only just recently ran the saw fully seated in, about 20 full tanks and she is smooth and STURDY! Really happy I ended up going with the professional Level saw. An absolute Monster, but not too intimidating!
Just picked up a 271 at a pawn for $350, they had 4 on it but I figured make an offer. It's brand new, never cut a stick. I hope I like it but I couldn't pass at the price.
Man my brother bought a 026 Super back in 1990 and that saw today stiil kick ass and turns logs into saw dust. Got my 271 in 15 and it still keeps me warm in the winter, not bad for $400 bucks. Also want a 261/ 262 Pro just because.
i would get a bigger saw if you want a 24" chain. the longer the bar, the more the saw works to spin that chain, and it robs some of the cutting power.
Everyone seems to run the chain too tight for me, it tightens up under throttle even more, causes saw to bog too much, although I know too loose and it'll keep jumping off the bar, I don't have any trouble with that but I don't like to hear that chain grinding sound when it's just running, rev it up about four times or so and I bet the bar is already hot... could be just me
My 271 seems like it's not oiling good. Shouldn't it spray a little oil on the chain cover when ribbing it up? What bar oil you suggest to use in these colder Temps btw? I'm using the Stihl brand in the orange jug but seems thick for this colder weather
Remove the bar and chain and see if the oil is coming out of the oil port which is right by the sprocket you’ll see the slot. Stihl does have a winter grade bar oil that is lighter weight but let’s start with checking to make sure the oiler itself is functioning
I use stihl bar oil, but not sure if its getting enough on the bar? Is there a method to know or determine if it's being oiled enough, or too much? Currently i feel like its not getting enough but its also 25 degrees outside.
Hey do you have a winter grade or oil that may be a wise thing to use when the temperature is it 32° or less. There’s not really a proper test way really comes down to kind of knowing what your normal flow is mini how much is left in the tank full tank of gas. I would maybe make sure that your oil passed ways are clear and then either pick up some winter grade bar oil or if that is not an option in your area add a little bit of 30 weight oil to your gallon of bar oil. You wanna be careful with that but you want to sit it out just a little bit lower the viscosity. I hope this helps you out.
I normally wait until a problem before I change the shutter. That said traditionally Stihl says under 40°. In my experience I haven’t seen a problem with the saws until it gets under 30°
You know the good thing about buying a power tool from a dealer is the way they eplane things and service unfortunly the shop in our town stop selling them seems the big box stores are selling moore of them in this area
Nice video ! Been looking at the Farm Boss . The weight specs shows 12.3 lbs at dry weight and just the power head . Do you happen to know the true weight with bar ,chain and fuel and oil . Been having issues with shoulder with my heavier saw and not my lighter saw . I weighed both of my saws with 20’’ bar and fueled and oiled up so I know if this will work for me . Thanks
Going to give everyone a little piece of advice pay attention to your oiler Reservoir clean it thoroughly before refilling every time I love my saw but now because I was in a hurry I have to replace a lot of parts the oiler the worm gear the clutch just a lot of parts trust me clean off the oiler Reservoir before filling it up
I'll pay you another thing don't let anyone ever borrow your chainsaw cuz while you just got the oiler unclog and you told the dummy to pay attention to the oiler they will burn your up and not care if you paid $500 for it

What size file to sharpen it? I bought the newer version recently. MS 271 Farm Boss.
And remember to rotate your bar every time you sharpen it.
Also remember a chain can be put on backwards and it will not cut. 👍🏼

@@Carlsmower yeah I saw it. I saw you cut with it to, I just really like the 400. And and find many videos on it
why is 261 “bigger” than 271
The displacement is actually the same.
The 261 is the replacement for the 026 Pro saw so it just made sense to keep the same numerology.
Curios about the 291…..
We do a comparison between the MS291 and MS261
The operation between 271&291 will be the same. Just more power (which is always worth it)
