  • This is a review of my motorcycle - KTM 690 Duke R. It's discontinued now, but I strongly encourage everybody who likes light, nimble bikes to find it used and try it, it's awesome!

On Moto Control channel you will find videos about motorcycles, motorcycle riding techniques, tips & tricks and online motorcycle training for beginner and advanced riders!
A little info about me. My name is Andrei Bodrov, originally I'm from Moscow, Russia, and now I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Back in Moscow I was a motorcycle instructor and creator of Moto Control Beginner & Advanced motorcycle rider courses, which quickly became the most popular courses in Moscow (well, at least the advanced one😁). My advanced training course makes emphasis on slow speed riding techniques at first (such as good clutch and throttle control, proper riding posture, proper use of vision, etc.), then proceeds to more advanced techniques (such as aggressive braking, trail braking, maximal lean angle). The course incorporates a lot of exercises from DOSAF slow speed riding (similar to police rodeo like motorcycle training in USA), braking and cornering exercises and motogymkhana style riding. And now, since I actively learn English - I decided to post some useful videos for both your and mine practice!😉

Since everyone writes this, it's necessary, I suppose 🤷, so here we go. Disclaimer: Ride at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety. Me, Andrey Bodrov and my channel, Moto Control disclaim any liability incurred in connection with the use of riding techniques from this channel. Use common sense, wear full protective gear and ride in a safe and predictable manner!

Had a 690 for 2 years now and have mixed feelings. On the one hand a super handy motorbike, you only have to think that you want to take the curve and it will follow. Then there's the power from below... great for narrow and mountainous routes. But on the other hand, despite regular care according to the workshop manual, I have had around 2000€ in repairs in the 2 years and that is definitely too much. At 12000 one of the camshaft bearings burst and blew the cylinder head apart, 2000 km later the shift shaft sensor broke, again less than 200 km later a weld broke in the catalytic converter and the tank seal was so porous after only 7 years that it had to be replaced had to. So definitely not a reliable everyday bike, but when it does go it's really fun

Great review of your favorite bike! Why did you have to sell it if you loved it so much? Just curious! Thanks for all the great videos. Keep up the great work. 🇨🇦🇰🇷

Thank you for this review! 👍 I have a 2021 690 Enduro R; I believe the engine is the same. A little bit too noisy lately and I am thinking about the rocker's clearances going out of spec (even though it has only 2.5k on the odometer)... On a different note: how are you? In which country are you now?

I'm in Argentina, it's very nice here! With 690 engine it's always good to check clearances, and on Enduro it's even easier than on Duke, due to different frame. Also, you can buy a valve spacer set in advance, you'll need it anyway (I bought a Hotcams set from ebay, it was around 100$ if I remember correctly). Btw, I think the louder noise at 2.5k is not valves, it's most likely the oil. Motorex seems to degrade and loose viscosity a bit fast, so I used to change it roughly every 5k km, and if you ride off-road much - maybe 2.5k is enough for the oil:)

@@MotoControlEn glad you are doing ok! Thank you for the tips. Will check the valves and change the oil. One at a time. See where's the culprit.

Do you have any thoughts about the KTM 200 Duke? I'm researching affordable, (very affordable) not used, street/highway legal bikes.✌🏽👍🏽

Very nice bike! It's very good option, probably the best in its class. Get the NG version with ABS:)

@@MotoControlEn Thanks, it does look like a good option for a street/highway, all around practice bike. Especially for the slow speed exercises. ✌🏽

I will never get KTM. So many people have problems with them and KTM service don’t care and doesn’t help them. I have 2 friends that used to own KTM and they will never buy them again.
