A little info about me. My name is Andrei Bodrov, originally I'm from Moscow, Russia, and now I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Back in Moscow I was a motorcycle instructor and creator of Moto Control Beginner & Advanced motorcycle rider courses, which quickly became the most popular courses in Moscow (well, at least the advanced one😁). My advanced training course makes emphasis on slow speed riding techniques at first (such as good clutch and throttle control, proper riding posture, proper use of vision, etc.), then proceeds to more advanced techniques (such as aggressive braking, trail braking, maximal lean angle). The course incorporates a lot of exercises from DOSAF slow speed riding (similar to police rodeo like motorcycle training in USA), braking and cornering exercises and motogymkhana style riding. And now, since I actively learn English - I decided to post some useful videos for both your and mine practice!😉

Since everyone writes this, it's necessary, I suppose 🤷, so here we go. Disclaimer: Ride at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety. Me, Andrey Bodrov and my channel, Moto Control disclaim any liability incurred in connection with the use of riding techniques from this channel. Use common sense, wear full protective gear and ride in a safe and predictable manner!

Andrey...ironically, it was an earlier U-Turn video of yours that made me a believer and an instant subscriber to your channel; this, too, is an outstanding instructional. The game-changer for me, was your description of countersteering, and it has made me an efficient "tight-U-Turner." Prior to hearing and watching you teach the virtues of countersteering at slow speeds, I was good within 27 feet, and am now 16-18ft on U-Turns thanks to you. I've never seen another instructional on this vital step; instead, nobody ever speaks to it. They say, "turn the handlebars," which always had me feeling as though I was wrestling the bike (H-D Street Bob, 670 lbs), and I felt there had to be an easier way. Your videos are a Godsend; thank you for all you do!

2:27 simpliest way to say countersteering: push left to go left, push right to go right.

It is a good teacher when he/she is able to break down a skill into its component parts. That momentary turning of the bars to initiate the counter steer is something I will try to focus upon. I spend a lot of time in parking lots and I am finding my u turns more challenging since I bought a dct wing. Hopefully this video will help.

I also hope it helps! For me dct bikes also are a little more difficult at slow speeds. I just got too used to a clutch 😁

Great instruction. This video helped me pass my permit skills test. The slight countersteer to help lean the bike before turning into the uturn helps so much. I then realized. It's nearly exactly the same as riding a bicycle. You countersteer the bicycle to lean before committing to the turn.
    Thank you.

I've read books by Lee Parks, David L. Hough, Nick Ienatsch, and the MSF Motorcycling Excellence book by following links by Moto Jitsu. I recently took the MSF and have practiced some of the Moto Jitsu. Having just watched some of your videos I find them clear, comprehensive, and extremely useful. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.

Great video. Thank you. I have a question.
How do I overcome the fear of the bike sliding from the rear wheel, when leaning a lot? Like if you were on an ice rink?
I know it's a mental wall and that the rubber grips consistently. However, which approach could I think of to fight this?
    Thank you!!

Hi, my bike is the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT, without cluch control for the third step of your video and there are also other machines without clutch lever to use the friction zone, so we have to replace the clutch control with the rear brake. Can I ask you to please give me some tips on how to do this competently? I'm so afraid of turning to the right while having to use the foot brake at the same time. In your opinion sould we use automatic or first gear in manual? TKS.

Андрей, спасибо большое! Искала подходящее объяснение по всему англоязычному ютубу ;) And what about the friction zone during the slow slalom? I've watched your video on this topic, but the main idea was related to countersteering performance. Usually, I'd go for a fully released clutch with no gas. Working with a friction zone while performing a slow speed figure 8 or slalom seemed like "extra hard work" for me (my instructor never corrected me either). Is there any tip I should keep in mind on the clutch releasing/ pulling in while doing a slalom? I guess I should pull it in more while leaning (next to the cone) and release it more while approaching another one? Please correct me if I'm wrong! ;)

Привет! Спасибо!) Отвечу на английском, чтобы остальные тоже поняли 😁
On some bikes, which can go rather slow without stalling (usually it's smaller bikes) you can easily make all exercises without using the clutch. However, learning the clutch is still beneficial, because it gives you more options for slow speed riding: you can slow down completely, and you can pickup the bike from falling down almost instantly. On bigger and heavier bikes riding in tight spots without clutch is possible too, but you have to go much faster. Essentially it becomes gymkhana-style riding, which is not always optimal. For example, on heavy bike I wouldn't filter through the dense traffic without friction zone. Hope it helps!🙂

@@MotoControlEn Hey Andrey, thanks for your prompt response! Really appreciate it!
I ride lowered Yamaha MT-07, and it goes fairly fast while clutch is fully released (I still manage to do quite tight 8 figure). I got the idea of controlling the speed with the clutch while holding the throttle on the steady level. But does it work the same while using clutch only (I guess so hah)? Regarding the falling - this is my biggest problem. I'm 155 cm/50kg, and the moment of stopping still seems the biggest challenge for me. I know about smooth braking, straight front wheel, look in front of you etc. But my short legs...3 times out of 10 I'd go on a side and won't be able to hold the bike. Is there any trick (with the clutch?) that might help me? Would you rather use the rear brake? The way I do it: releasing the throttle, smoothly pulling in the front brake (just a tiny bit), pulling in the clutch, downshift, smoothly pull in the front break for a full stop and while about to stop, use my leg as a kickstand haha
So many questions! Hope you don't mind ☺

Hi Teacher today I failed doing uturn and dropping the bike it’s really hurt me I wish I could do it right. Could you maybe please do a video about sharp uturn step by step like for example when to use vision, rear brake , turn the handle bar. How much clutch, how much throttle how much lean, when to use the rear brake before in the middle or exit and of course counter balance . Step by step I know you have al ready a lot videos I wish in details and many thanks. 😢

But is it fine to do u turn without utilizing a friction zone? I'd tried it and managed to perform quite tight u turn (almost full lock) with no braking and using the clutch. It was not hard to perform this trick on small bike, but was it good to do so? I'm afraid, it can develop a bad habit for the future. I mean, it's not possible for big motorcycles, isn't it?

    • @MotoControlEn
      @MotoControlEn  2 роки тому +6

On small bikes it's possible and it's perfectly ok for most part. On bigger bikes it's still possible, but you'll have to go much faster to not stall the engine. And on bikes with low lean angles making a tight u-turn without friction zone can be a big pain in the ass, because you can't go fast (because you can't lean much) and you can't go slow either (because you'll stall). So you have to ride just at right speed, which is actually more difficult than to ride at friction zone. And friction zone gives you more options, for example on slick road you can make u-turn slower, and it will be still quite small. Hope it helps:)

@@joejanzen5511 This is something I'm confused about as well. If I'm turning left, at the start there's a slight turn to the right. At that point, does the motorcycle automatically start leaning left or do we need to move our upper body to the left to "help" it?
