"They mention a DC character in a Marvel movie" Yes but how could you forget the time Aunt May mentioned Superman to Peter in Spiderman? "You can't do everything, you know. You're not Superman".
Actually, based on your review, the movie is fairly faithful to the comic-books; Cap does indeed become frozen in the arctic trying to stop a missile (this is how Bucky dies). And the creator of the serum is murdered by a Nazi spy. They leave out Bucky and the part where Namor inadvertently frees him, among other things, but nonetheless, fairly faithful.
I rented this when I was like 12 or 13. I could tell it wasn't very good but I was still psyched to see Cap and Red Skull on the screen and Dick Jones as the president. Shows how much I was into comics and starved for cinematic adaptations that I watched it twice before returning it to the video store. kids today are so spoiled with the MCU and DCEU and Netflix and the Arrowverse. they'll never know the struggle
Firstly I have to say that I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to talk about this movie. There are very few people who have actually seen this film let alone who are willing to make a UA-cam video on it. I remember seeing this movie in my local video store back in the early 90’s as a we lad. Even back then I was a huge Marvel fanboy and when I saw the cover for this film, I knew I had to ask my mom if we could rent it. Now granted, this was the early 90’s, I was a young child and Hollywood hadn’t gone full blown comic book movie franchise yet with the exception of the Christopher Reeve’s Superman Films and Tim Burton’s Batman 1and 2. For whatever reason at the time I really liked this Captain America movie. As child I thought it was dark and very much a movie for adults so it made me feel like I was watching something I wasn’t supposed too. Looking back now this movie is tame as hell but to a young kid I can see why I thought that. Even though this movie was poorly made, the special effects were subpar, there weren’t enough action sequences, the acting, dialog, and overall story was severely lacking, I enjoyed it just the same. The one thing I will say that was a positive depending on how you look at it, I do appreciate that the film makers tried to go with a very comic book accurate suit even though it doesn’t translate at all on the big screen. I commend Marvel Studios for making the necessary tweaks needed in order for Chris Evans to look like a serious Badass as Captain America. Now when I go back and watch this movie or the two Reb Brown made for TV movies, I can’t help but only envision Chris Evans as Cap and the Captain America uniforms he wore in the MCU ( minus the goofy 2012 Avengers suit)! Overall the 1990 Captain America movie remains as a fun romp for the most die hard fans. Every once and a while I will pop this bad boy in my VHS player( yes I still own one) and watch this movie. This has been a great video and I look forward to seeing the next one! Cheers!
This was my second introduction to Captain America. Being a huge Marvel fanboy even as a young child, after seeing the two 1979 Reb Brown Movies, this 1990 Captain America film blew me away! So naturally I loved it too! Now as an adult, I still have a soft spot for this film and every once and a while I pop this bad boy in my VHS player and enjoy it for what it’s worth!
One of my favorite movies as a kid. I probably had a crush on Matt Salinger-he was mesmerizing. Then I read Catcher in the Rye in 8th grade and fell in love with J.D. Salinger. When I realized Captain America was his son, that blew my mind-one of those private aha moments that won’t translate to others but which nevertheless has a personal charm
The actor from Cap A. 1990 had the posture and look of a leader. Chris Evans well, he was a comedian, always ready to crack a laugh or show his teeth. Captain America was supposed to be a true leader, a man leading his team.
We're lucky there were any superhero movies ever again after this came out. Whenever people mock the 70s TV motorcycle helmet Cap, I steer them towards this movie. Reb Brown's not looking so bad now, huh? Though now that I think of it, Salinger and Eric Bana as Bruce Banner have the same acting style so they would've done perfect opposite each other for a team-up? Now we just have to find a cast of low energy actors from that period to fill in the rest of the Avengers and we have the makings of a Blandverse hit.
That movie isn’t a awful movie, and I find it how people judge the older marvel movies, when the newest aren’t even great at all. The mcu is overrated now.
No one else notice the fake ears on the costumer? No idea why people are saying it's good, my Mother made better costumes for Halloween back then in the late 80's even... My masks actually fit! And padding didn't look like stuffed pillows... We were even dirt poor, on assistance... The costume IS bad.
Im of this generation but I still think back then you could make a good live action comic book movie or show, I love Te Incredible Hulk from the 70s But this movie is crap!
you should see cz dubbed version, the translation and voice acting is so bad, its bloody hilarius xdd, cz dubber version of this, watch drunk for 2x the fun
“Where did Captain America learn how to steal a car?”
😂

DC Comics exists in the Marvel universe.
Maybe she was referring to Nietzche

Being somewhat faithful to the comics doesnt make it a good movie though.
@@hkr0065 Fair enough.
From the Nostalgia Critic's review of the movie:
"Captain America! Bravely abandoning the people who help him in his time of need!"

I did the same thing
Definitely glad there are all these great Marvel movies now.
They're not spoiled. It's movie evolution. People born in the early 30's could say the same for you.

RIP Albert Pyun (1953 - 2022).
I saw that on cable so many times when I was a kid. It was my first experience with captain America, so naturally I loved it.

People always forgot..he is a fantasy comic character and have always stood for the Red White & Blue..not dark black blue and slight dull red.😎
People in this talk shit about everything in this era at least someone tryed to make captain America not bitch about it
It was the steping stone
it was 1990 don't forget, for the time it wasn't that bad Captain America costume looks ripped straight out of the comics.
No, this was very bad by 1990 standards. Compare it to Batman, which came out a year earlier, or even Superman, which came out in 1979.
Naw this costume looks pretty good.
Yeah, I rented that bad boy as a kid, was good enough for me
@@dreamlandnightmare Superman came out in 1977,
@@Jdo4031 We were both wrong. It came out in 1978.
I rented this as a kid and still enjoyed it. Yeah, it wasn't super high budget but there really wasn't any other options. Wasn't too had for the time.
I grew up watching this before marvel rebooted and I like it.
I gave this movie a
10 ⭐
just for
NED BEATTY
and for them getting
RED SKULL'S face right
SERIOUSLY
the new movie made him look like a
joke
His costume is pretty good tho
The costume is great though
I remember seeing this on TV as a kid I never knew it was in theaters even as a kid it look like a made-for-tv movie
You didn’t mention cap’s fake ears on his costume.

Cap's costume at the time looked better than the 1979 version. But there was no way this version of Cap was going to compete with Batman.
Why is Brisco County Jr up at the 10 mark? And who is the guy at the bottom of the scale?
Uwe Boll.
Anyone here after watching Endgame?
Lmfao he steals cars???! That’s amazing

Are you confusing Captain America on screen with Chris Evans in blooper scenes?
i liked this film
I've seen this when I was a kid.

Why do these videos get so few views?
Liked this movie as a kid. It might be not the best, but I'm yet to see a better movie based on Cap. MCU Cap is not my Cap.
Chris Evans is the only Captain America
I agree he is
BATTASTICLY BATERRIFFIC!
I like your vids, please do Critters someday?
There's nothing awful about Critters. but maybe one of the sequels?
Speaking oh Age of Ultron, that movie deserves to be in Awfully Good Movies. That was a messy movie.
That movie isn’t a awful movie, and I find it how people judge the older marvel movies, when the newest aren’t even great at all. The mcu is overrated now.
Boby Brown, actually, Im not the biggest fan of their formula. It’s worked for some but it gets repetitive and too on the nose.
Thanks
Did I just see Blast Hardcheese?
Surely meant Slab Bulkhead.
Estes valores. Américas Américas de 1899-e num mulher de 79.
They took the red out of the red skull 😭😭
Why???
You & the cap'n make it happen!

I'll take this over any MCU movie even Thor:Dark World
sorry but I like both old and new cap I just don't know we're those youtubers get off discouraging other peoples opinions

good bad flicks did a better review
Looked like Jeremy piven
Main issue of the movie: Salinger was an embarrassing beefcake, totally unconvincing. Then, the direction, the screenplay, the costume, etc. 😈😬😭
Can you imagine how the Avengers would look in this toilet Film?
Matt Salinger is still way better than SJW, Chris Evans.
No way
