Absolutely epic. I've done a few overnighters at Stafford back in the day. I remember my friend and I falling asleep to 'Love FM' on a portable radio to be woken up by 90s flying through at 3am!
Good to see you made it happen Luke, no surprise you have quickly made 2K subscribers thanks to the quality and variety you produce. Stafford is no exception and onwards to 3K!
Thanks a lot mate, really appreciate those kind words. I’m glad we finally managed to get it done too, took far too long thanks to the bad weather this summer. Onwards to 3K!
Many thanks for this Luke - look forward to part 2. Excellent camera work, really appreciate the use of tripod and monopod. Cheers Marty in New Zealand
Thanks a lot mate, glad to see people notice those things, hate it when you watch a vid and it's all over the place. Monopod is useful for these trips since it's a lot more manoeuvrable and takes up less space than a full tripod. Part 2 should be out on Friday, all the best.
Great Work. I worked for British Rail, Railtrack and Network Rail for 37 years from May 1970 to March 2007 doing 11 jobs. I started as a Train Recorder at Manchester Victoria West and East, Guard at Manchester Victoria May 1971 until 8th July 1973 then Conductor Guard at Manchester Piccadilly from 9th July 1973 to 31st December 1976 working Piccadilly to Euston via Crewe or Stoke-on-Trent and sometimes Birmingham New Street. These were West of England trains and then Wolverhampton to Euston from New Street. The other days were locals e.g. 4 trips to Glossop/Hadfield or 3 trips to Liverpool Lime Street or 4 trips to New Mills Central. On 3rd January 1977 I moved to Manchester Control and until May 1994 I worked Assistant Controller then Grades A, B, C, D and E. I then moved into management and retired in middle management until March 2007. I am 71 and been retired 16 years.
Thanks a lot Keith, must admit that's one of my favourite shots from the whole trip, got very lucky with that one. Part 2 will be along probably Friday next week (much more editing needed).
I used to live in Ipswich, there was a great spot on the stairs of a multi storey car park for filming, but then they put these fine wire mesh safety grilles in. All the major traffic out of Felixstowe was incredible! I've seen millions of 66's, a few 70's 86's until they were parked, and now 90's some of which ex GA and still White! Great little spot
Haha cheers John, with the price of lecky at the moment, no one is using their electrics so the 66’s seem even more plentiful! It was nice staying dry but was bloody freezing overnight.
MEGA video Luke. It probably is the best, if not one of the best locations in the country for freight so hats off for an entertaining part 1. I look forward to part 2. Regards, Ben ps. I like the bingo idea, it adds a bit more fun
Thanks a lot mate, hope you enjoy part 2 just as much 👍🏻 yeah I like the bingo idea, just adds a bit of something extra over such long videos. Plus it keeps me a bit more entertained throughout the 24 hours haha.
Cheers Andrew, think I prefer the curve to the actual station. Just a pity you have to run across the estate to the other bridge to catch stuff coming from Wolverhampton way.
Hi Luke, a good choice of destination. I live in Bristol and had done an annual pilgrimage to Stafford for a good many years, never been disappointed yet. Was there 2 weeks ago (only for 6 hours though!) and had another excellent day. Excellent first 12 hours.
Cheers Mike, yeah it was a great trip, actually quite glad it worked out as Stafford rather than Tamworth. Crinoline bridge on the curve south of the station is fantastic!
All your videos are great but THIS one blows the rest clean out of the water...it's that good. Good to see my old friend 92043 again, seen it many times at Glasgow central and even been in the cab too😊
Thank you so much for this, it really is very kind when you can access any of my content for free. It will always be reinvested into further trips or new equipment to make the vids even better. Thanks a million Fletch 👍🏻

Nice one mate 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed. Sorry I missed your message on the stream, I’m not usually sat at my pc in the evenings so can’t always be checking chat.
Thanks a lot mate, yeah couldn't believe it when I saw it was a triple. Just been reading about the DB ones in the latest rail express, really pity. Freightliner are hardly using theirs though because of the price of electricity giving no profit margin for the flows, the few they are running are in the middle of the night when it's cheapest!
Love your videos and so informative I live in Tenerife we don't have a railway network on the island just a small tram work system that's not worth talking about
Hi mate, always great to have locals. The freight companies are holding off using their electrics because of the price of electricity unbelievably! The tight margins make it not viable so they just use 66’s. There were only two 90 workings and they were in the middle of the night when lecky is cheapest.
Thanks a lot mate. Yeah I use rail-record.co.uk, you can search where you want to check and switch off passenger timings to just see freight. Realtimetrains you can do the same thing with the filters so you can see the live timings of when something is due 👍🏻
Thanks Paul, it's a regular iphone 14 pro max. Nothing too special tbh but have external mic's to improve the sound and mono/tripods etc to keep it steady.
What a great video just ruined by that little fat bloke on the opposite platform (4.20) 😂😂😂. Glad you got down the curve. You'll have to let me know where the other location was. Great to finally meet up. Looking forward to part 2. 👍👍👍👍👍
