- Diggle Diaries: An attempt to film all daylight running freight and interesting workings from Diggle Junction. Situated on the picturesque Trans-Pennine, Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds route, Diggle Jn lies at the top of a steep incline leading into Standedge Tunnel. Providing beautiful scenery, varied freight and trains working hard up the hill, there aren’t many better places for a bit of trainspotting.

Enjoyed your new video, the one thing was Evening Star, in my fireman time I did manage to fire the steam name of that name.Kind Regards
Thanks a lot Ramon, that’s one hell of a feather in the cap to get the last. I believe this was the last 66 built, hence the name in homage to the steamer.
Another great video Luke up their with Clarkson’s Farm 😂
No filling needed 🤭 look forward to the next video
Ha just been watching the new series this eve. Thanks a lot Jeffrey 👍🏻
What a cracking location. Thanks for the video, and just subscribed. Really great sounds from the trains there.
Cheers mate, much appreciated. Glad to hear you enjoyed the sound as a lot of effort goes into catching that.
You sir are a jammy bugger getting to see 66779 several times. I have only ever seen it once 😊
Tell me about it! First time I saw it was at Reading now I can’t get it to leave me alone!
Nice! Its great to see that yellow thing in the sky too!
Had to do some research as to what that was! 😂
Nuclear flask wagons when loaded with flasks en route to and from submarine base in Plymouth are accompanied by a couple of DRS coaches containing armed guards to protect the convoy, its always double headed (or top and tailed). Nowadays will be Class 68’s/88’s.
Bloody hell id love to catch those one day!
Those are KUA Wagons, these KXA are more likely to be used on fuel to and from Barrow docks to sellafield.
@@DiggleJunctionquite likely you would be 'discouraged' from filming . The.wagons were used when defuelling Dounreay and the royal navy research establishment there
Another great video from the Diggle Junction team.
Thanks a lot mate, we do our best!
Another brilliant video! Thank you. I've enjoyed seeing the Drax train on the live stream this week too 🙂
Thanks a lot Ruth, I do like to have the cam up for that exact reason. Nice sometimes to catch the things live that then crop up in the diary.
Another awesome vid thx Luke.!!👍👍
Much appreciated mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant Luke Another Belter Regards Tim
Thanks a lot Tim 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks Luke, another nice one. Appreciate it.
Cheers Bill, appreciate the support as always 👍🏻
A great episode indeed Luke.....
Cheers Declan, glad you enjoyed it.
Great video once again Luke. Keep them coming 👍
Cheers Geoff, plenty more to come 👍🏻
Great video Luke, great drone shots from will, and as you said, interesting wagons. Well done mate!
Thanks a lot mate, I’ll pass that on to Will too 👍🏻
Another great video Luke. Well done.
Thanks a lot Gary, appreciate it 👍🏻
Yep, enjoyed and liked again Luke! Funnily enough was wondering just last week if 66723 was still painted up as Chinook - I last saw it at a RAF Odiham families day not long after it had been named - GBRF took it there on a lowloader! 🙂Have to say a single 66 looks to struggle on the Drax trains! Great video again!
Thanks a lot Keith, that must have been a sight to behold! What an undertaking to get it over there. They definitely struggle on the hills up, I guess it must be worth it to be able to fly down the other side at 75 instead of 60.
Great video
Cheers John 👍🏻
I do love a nice freight train great vid😊
You and I both mate, thanks a lot 👍🏻
Another great episode Luke, I see what you mean about the sub wagons! That last shot was a revelation, seeing the old station, that must have been demolished a long time ago.
Thanks a lot John, glad you stayed till the end to catch that picture. Closed in 1968 after being open since 1850 under the L&NWR. I’ll drop in more pictures over the next few episodes, search on google for disused stations, there’s some great info on Diggle station.
Great to see the old station: I recently watched video on a crash from those early days. Please keep old photos coming to see the changes 👍
Really enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot Kevin 👍🏻
It Is Awsome Again Diggle Fantastic Footage 😁
Thanks a lot Henri, appreciate the support as always 👍🏻
Excellent as always mate, great footage
Cheers pal, hope you're having a good weekend so far at the SVR.
@@DiggleJunction it’s been a very good three days so far
Wow Luke, another amazing video, 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks a lot Mark 👍🏻
Love the drone footage. Stereotypical English scene
Thanks Stephen, idyllic indeed.
Outstanding photography mate ❤ brilliant attention to detail
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate that 👍🏻
Amazing video as always! 👍
Thanks very much mate 👍🏻
@@DiggleJunction No problem!
Very good
Cheers pal 👍🏻
Great video, liked and sub'ed ! Love the unusual workings and the Drax stuff, been working at Dore and Totley station on and off and there is a Drax train "runs as required" but never seen it yet ? At least ive got the "Garfield" Cemex wagon to keep me amused and a convoy of seven 66's the other sunday night 👍
Cheers John, appreciate it mate thanks. That's one hell of a convoy, never seen seven together before! I believe that runs as required Drax working is incase of diversions.
Great video of 66723 a bit daring but worth it. Was good to meet up with you today 28 May at Stafford. Peter and Gordon. Keep up the good work can't wait to see the Arlington one.
Thanks mate, can only do it in the dry as the ledge I have to pull myself up to can be really slippy with only the tow path between me and the canal haha. Final tweaks post review to Arlington done today so fingers crossed it will be ready for Friday 👍🏻 great to meet you fellas too, was glad to get home out of that rain.
Absolutely great stuff again Luke. But where is the Eastleigh video? Wow Evening Star gets around doesn’t it, you copped it at Reading West, whilst you were there take care.
Thanks a lot John, should be either the next release or the one after hopefully. Can’t get away from Evening Star nowadays!
Great video may i ask where u got the little loco icons you use when saying what loco is coming through enjoy your videos as I am unable to get out much thanks
Thanks mate, they’re taken from a few places, mostly from train sim or OO gauge models, then compressed and heavily edited to look good small. Takes a lot of work but I’m gradually building up database to drop them in now.
Great video Luke . Would love to see what goes on inside the measurement trains . Love the drone footage
Thanks Les, I wonder if network rail would ever let us do some filming inside it. Food for thought.
Seen you at marsden when evening star was running round the train!
Haha nice one mate, was surprised there was quite a few of us out for that one. Was a busy half hour that eh?!
I've seen an old version of them DRS wagons at Sellafield before always wondered what they where for
Aye I think they’ve got a few different but similar types for those similar applications. Very interesting stuff.
drs have used these kxas for a while and have been to sellafield quite a few times, in fact they are more often stored on site at sellafield.
Less shots of you in the rain this month Luke! Interesting mix. Cool photo at the end title, the station may have changed but the pub hasn't.
Thank the heavens summer is finally rearing its head mate ha. I’ve got a photo of the pub from around the same time so will put that in at the end of the next one.
I live in todmorden and always miss the 37 is the a specific date for the next one
Love Tod, it's been replaced by the HST now on the Yorkshire circuit but every once in a while the 37's randomly crop up as a replacement so it's tough to predict these days. I think the Measurement Train usually works that side in the first few days of the month.
Love the new video luke. I've never seen them nuke wagons before are they new? Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks mate, as far as I’m aware they’re not that new but it looks like they’ve been over to Donny for a refresh.
The difference between the loaded and unloaded biomax trains is significant, the 66`s do struggle a bit. Still got the bouncy points then, brilliant thankyou.
Yeah they really fly along when empty. I gather that’s why they’re swapping the 60’s out so they can travel at 75 empty with the sheds. Points still as bouncy as ever haha.
DRS have had these KXA's for a number of years now, mainly used of fuel transfers between Barrow docks and Sellafield.
That’s what I read mate, the bigger KUA’s are the ones used for MOD stuff from our dockyards.
keep up the good work mate and thank you ( I changed my name I was kizzi )
Thanks a lot pal, cheers for the support as always (under a different guise haha)
The wagons 66427 is hauling or used between Japan, Barrow Docks &, Sellafield transporting nuclear waste. They travel between Japan & Barrow Docks on ships, before being unloaded at Barrow Docks then they move onwards to Sellafield. These wagons will be off repair and heading back to Sellafield.
Very interesting mate thanks for that info, interesting to see them away from their usual stomping ground.
Deffo flask carriers Luke used for transporting a square type fuel element. Cannot elaborate further, still bound by the OSA.
Very very interesting application mate, not sure it was have fit through the tunnel loaded in that case.
@@DiggleJunction Luke the flasks are tube like, easily fitting through any bore tunnel. Submarine assemblies are generally escorted (armed) using specially converted DRS mk 3 coaches.
Hey diggle what on earth were thoes blue 4x4 waggons?
Very strange mate, supposedly used for transporting spent fuel from Nuclear subs! Search KXA wagons on google to see them loaded.
Luke if you use your drone more you should be able to see a layout in a garden on the road near the signal box 😊
Haha really mate, on the estate opposite? I’ll have to take a look next time!
If you want I can show you the layout. He would love it
He is a very good mate of mine. If you want I can arrange you to see it running
Fantastic! You have quite the female following now x
Haha it’s much appreciated thanks! 4.5% of my audience according to youtubes analytics 😂
@@DiggleJunction I’m definitely at least 2.5% of that demographic. Trains and bogies never looked so good.
Not Sub wagons mate. They are much bigger.
Think it’s just for their fuel mate. Can’t imagine how big it would be needed for actual subs.
First like from me to you Luke
Thanks a lot mate, appreciate the support 👍🏻
