  • Maneuvering his way into being assigned the most infamous murder trial in Long Island's history, Assistant District Attorney Gerard Sullivan could not prepare himself for what was around the corner. In 1975, Ronald J DeFeo Jr. would stand trial for the murders of six of his family members in Amityville, New York. Sullivan, along with a host of Suffolk County's finest, painstakingly piece together this complicated case that captivated this sleepy hollow community.

    Turn this into a feature length movie. It's better than 90% of the Amityville movies out there. Great job :)

      @@johndoe9362 ... I know all about Ryan Katzenbach's SHATTERED HOPES. It's incredibly comrehensive and I love it. But it's not feature film,.. it's documentary. So when I said someone is finally covering the DeFeo family and the trial, I meant in a feature film.format. I know about the film THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS, which is exclusively about the DeFeo family. But it's basically mostly fiction... about the DeFeo's and Butch specifically being haunted by evil spirits.

      I don't know.
      I didn't enjoy this film at all.
      Why is the actor playing Butcher so tall?
      The acting by all is just kind of weird.
      The courtroom doesn't look like a 1974 courtroom.
      I felt bad for the actors.
      Regarding Katzenbach and Osuna, they seem to be convinced of what really happened on that night.
      I don't know what to believe.
      Do you think Dawn actually killed anyone on that night?

      @@johndoe9362 That's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy the proof-of-concept. Of course viewers have varying subjective opinions when it comes to films, music etc.
      Our goal was to give the audience further insight into the aftermath of the crime and a glimpse of what the trial was like. Keep in mind that this work isn't a short film, rather scenes from a feature script.
      Many courtrooms throughout this country, especially in smaller communities actually do resemble the one in this film. I believe most older courts have not renovated because of the historic charm of these buildings. Whether or not the setting of this film location is identical to the actual Suffolk County courtroom is irrelevant.
      As far as the actor being taller than the real person he's portraying isn't relevant in the world of cinema. When telling a story, be it even one that's based on true events, creative liberties are taken. Perhaps this was a creative decision to make this character appear more pronounced in stature than the other characters.
      As far as Shattered Hopes goes, it's a completely different kind of medium. Even though I'm sure their budget was substantially higher than this one, their presentation wasn't always a definitive physical interpretation of the real people and location they were replicating.
      Much of what was presented in that documentary concerning Geraldine Gates has been proven to be untrue. There is far more documentation to prove she fabricated her story than there is to prove she was honest, which in essence makes Shattered Hopes less than a factual documentary.

      @@johndoe9362 You don't get out much, do you? At least this film works harder than any other Amityville film to explain and explore the real tragedy.
      It's an odd choice of word that you used, "weird." The acting was as good as any of its predecessors in the Amityville franchise.
      I always find it curious when people use the pseudonym John Doe as their profile name... it wouldn’t shock me if you were Katzenbach or Osuna! But I digress, the filmmakers and actors should be proud of what they accomplished here.
      And yes, everyone is allowed their opinion, however you seem to be absent the intellect to explain in detail what your issue was. You sound like a troll just shitting on someone's work.

    The only question I have is that did Butch and Dawn have a physical confrontation before killing her or was she shot in the position she was found in by scpd?

    • @outoftimepictures
      @outoftimepictures  Рік тому

      It depends on which narrative you choose to believe. Due to the massive wound Dawn sustained to her head there would have been a significant amount of blood, brain and skull matter. I doubt Butch attempted to clean up her room after the murder. I also don't believe that there was a cover-up by the SCPD at the crime scene.

    • @jordanstevenson4887
      @jordanstevenson4887 Рік тому

      @@outoftimepictures I think its possible that Dawn and Butch had a confrontation in the bedroom but she was simply fighting for her life, Butch managed to overpower her and then shot her in the back of the neck.
      No I don't believe that the police covered anything up but they lied about the time in which the rifle was found.
      They maintain that it was Jack Shirvell that found the rifle boxes at 2 :30 A.M before DeFeo actually became a suspect but when you go back and you look at the narrative and you look at the reports, there is alot on the record that indicates that this is a fabrication.
      Detective Summer's from the I D unit was still going around taking pictures systematically of the house. At 9:13 PM. , according to his log, while on his 6th roll of film out of the 11 that would be taken that night, he got to the second floor.
      That floor based on the timeline would still have been a real hotbed of activity. They would have still been processing the crime scenes of Marc , John ,Alison , Ronald Senior and Louise.
      Not wanting to be in their way, based on the log, based in looking at the order of the pictures, he stopped taking pictures on the second floor and immediately went to the third floor from exactly 9:17 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
      Detective Summer's snaps pictures of Dawn DeFeo's body still laying in bed as well as multiple angles of her room and then he goes across and he takes pictures of Butch DeFeo's room.
      At 9:32 P.M., Detective Summer's goes downstairs to the second floor, having just loaded his 7th roll of film for the night and there he takes pictures of Marc and John's room and then Allison's room.
      All of a sudden at 9:40 P.M., according to his own photo log, Detective Summer's goes back up to the third floor, back up to Butch's room and shoots 2 pictures of two rifle boxes standing in the corner. The .22 Marlin and the .35 Marlin before he then aftee taking these 2 pictures, goes back downstairs and resumes shooting the crime scene on the second floor.
      There's no other reason why Summer's would have stopped taking pictures on the second floor to go up to the third floor and snap pictures of these gun boxes unless he was called up there by one of the Suffolk County Homicide Detectives.
      The idea that Jack Shirvell first discovered these boxes at 2:30 in the morning and that was the first time that Detectives became aware of them, is impossible.
      It couldn’t have happened like that. They knew about those boxes five hours before they claimed that they did. Butch stated that it was sometime around 10/10:30 P.M. when Suffolk County Homicide Detectives began to administer the beatings.
      Given the timeline, it becomes pretty evident those detectives just before 10 P.M. knew about those rifle boxes and began to really hone in on their suspect.

    • @outoftimepictures
      @outoftimepictures  Рік тому +1

      @@jordanstevenson4887 Yes, I'd agree that it doesn't make logical sense as to why it was stated Shirvell discovered the boxes at 2:30 in the morning when detectives had been in and out of Butch's room several hours earlier.
      On the surface, it seems odd to fabricate the discovery of the rifle boxes in the report as the boxes were photographed earlier.
      It's hard to say if Butch and Dawn struggled with the rifle. We have to remember that Butch is the narrator here. I know he said that Dawn woke up and he told her to go back to bed, who knows if that even happened. The problem is, he's not a reliable narrator so in my opinion, you need to make a decision that's based on the physical evidence, like blood splatter and trajectory of the wound and exit wound.
      I'm simplifying things here because I don't want to get long-winded.
      As far as police brutality goes, once again it's really hard to say if that happened. Yes, I know the SCPD did not have a good reputation and that's putting it mildly. However, whatever bruises they did see on his body could have very well have been from a physical altercation with his father.

    Interesting story and for the most part well done, BUT took me right out of the story with the inclusion of the "digital" clock, in the bedroom, which in 1974 wasn't invented yet.

    • @outoftimepictures
      @outoftimepictures  Рік тому +2

      Actually, The earliest patent for a digital alarm clock was registered by D.E Protzmann and others on October 23, 1956, in the United States. Protzmann and his associates also patented another digital clock in 1970.

    • @blackdragon5220
      @blackdragon5220 Рік тому +1

      @@outoftimepictures You are partially correct. LED digital "watches" were invented in 1970, but not available until 1972 and not WIDELY available until about a year later. Bedside clocks were not available until much later. The "digital" clocks available in the 70's were the "solid" plate "flip" style..., not LED, like what is depicted in the 1979 movie. "Patents" only mean that the "idea" was created and claimed, not necessarily that a product is available. As I said before, it was done well enough to grab attention.
