A real series, telling the actual truth and not just their insane and totally fictional stories, would be pretty fun, and might educate a few people on how "psychics" are just a bunch of evil scammers and conmen, taking a whole lot of money, getting rich, on people's grief.

Ed Warren approached guy playfair during the Enfield polterguiest saga and took him to the side and said i can make you a lot of money so they were told to piss off That was the only connection they had with that haunting.

Defeo said in one of his last interviews that he and Dawn shot the Father and the Mother in the mix up got shot too. He said he left and when he got back Dawn and another man had killed the younger siblings so Ronnie killed her. It may have happened something like this. Creepy a.f either way!

A minor correction and a few clarifications: The Lutzes didn't erect the sign "High Hopes". That sign was put there by the Defeos. Also, the garage door was allegedly slamming up and down before their eyes on their very first day upon moving into the house. This freaked the dog out who was leashed in a fenced in pen area alongside and he jumped the fence to escape the noise but the leash wasn't long enough for the dog to land on the ground on the other side and it began to hang itself by accident. The dog wasn't trying to commit suicide. In the 2nd half of the video it's described how the boys' beds were coming off the floor and headboards banging into the walls etc. The parents testified they heard this occurring. The idea that they spoke to the priest first to tell them to leave the house and stay somewhere else is a bit ridiculous. If your beds go flying, you GET OUT, you don't have to call a priest first to make sure. So I find that detail a little bit dubious.

Polly Potter:I read an excellent book called Amityville Hoax. All the facts of the case and interviews are in the book! It's written so that the reader can make up their own minds on what happened and it isn't biased at all. My conclusion from reading it?
    1. The police did a HORRIBLE job of investigating the case properly.
    2. Ronald Defeo was not possessed...he was a greedy, cruel, asshole.
    3. Everyone and their dog wanted to make money off of the Lutz family story.
    4. The family never claimed that the house was haunted from the murders.
    5. George Lutz practiced the dark arts of the occult in the house.
    6. The haunting incidents that the entire family does back up are:
    a) The marching band sounds.
    b) Kathy looking like an old lady.
    c) The "pig."
    d) Flies where there shouldn't be.
    e) Kathy levitating.
    f) Stenches throughout the house.
    g) Dog trying to hang himself.
    h) George always being cold.
    7. The Lutz family didn't just leave and never come back. They did come back to get their stuff and have a yard sale.
    8. Two of the boys (step sons) of George's blame him completely for the haunting. They say his occult practices caused the haunting, not the Defeo murders.
    9. When the Lutz's left, the haunting followed them everywhere they went.
    10. There was never an Indian burial ground, the tribe even said they'd never been there and that there's no legend supporting it.
    11. There was never a black magician who lived in the house.
    12. A priest did visit the house to bless it. He did have car trouble driving home but that was it, no sores or sickness.
So...what I get from the whole story?
I don't think the house was ever haunted, I think George Lutz was. Which would explain why nothing happened in the house after they left but it did continue to happen to them wherever they moved to.

    • @brendan722002
      @brendan722002 7 років тому +23

Two points I should correct you on which are known to have been confused with the book as well as disinformation from hoax advocates: The Lutz family never returned to get their belongings but rather they sent some trusted friends on a Sunday (a Holy day) and only during daylight hours. Also the yard sale you mentioned was held by auctioneers hired by the bank the Lutz's gave the house back to - neither George or Kathy were there.. Although there is no one source of speculation towards causing the haunting I am of the opinion it was a 'perfect paranormal storm' of events which culminated in any paranormal activity contributed to the 28 days the Lutz family resided there.

Melatonin is the body's natural resources, and a low dosage wouldn't show up in the autopsy reports. It can also be a very dangerous medication if you eat too many. There are also certain drugs that don't show up at all, some syntethic drugs that are not prescription. A rich family in the 70s would have access to just about anything, especially in LA. The thing that bugs me about the Amityville movies, is that they ALL showed the basement as some creepy and scary dungeon like cavern, when in fact the basement in that house was finished and was used as a rec room. It had a pool table, TV sets, and shelving with board games. The other half was used as a laundry room and storage area .

I know a few people who were up top with him, and DeFeo admittedly tells everyone the demon crap was told because he had absolutely no other defense. He was drinking pretty hard, and he dropped some tabs and was tripping balls when he shot them. Yes, his story changes all the time, but he never brings up the ghostly demon crap anymore. He tried it, it didn't work, and it was such a ridiculous story that even he was embarrassed to originally tell it.

You know..... I keep hearing about how creepy or scary the movie was. The truth is, you dont know the story if you dont read the book(s) (there were 2). The movie just isnt the same as the story in the book. It's missing things and de-emphasizes the frequency and impact of the encounters with Jody. This story as told in the books will freeze your blood and you WILL sleep with the lights on for a while after you read it. Skip the movie. Get the books.

11:30 My Daddy used to do "Exorcisms" with a sword he found in the dirt one day when he was playing by himself around the age of 8... he told me many MANY stories about how he would help people exorcise demons from their homes, he would "Sweep the house" with that sword, and one night after sweeping a home for friends of a friend, he saw 3 Pig men running away from the house, he said he looked like Bebop from Ninja turtles.. he never allowed me to have the figure of Bebop because of what he said he saw that night.. and he told me about the story LONG before Ninja Turtles was even a thing. later i showed him the "Pig Cop" from Duke Nukem and he said it too was the spitting Image of the Demons he saw running away from that house... my dad lived to the age of 70 and he while being an incredibly funny man when he wanted too be, he was never given to lying or making stories up.. he came out of a time when your word was your code. so i know he didn't lie to me. he really did see those..... things.... and now listening to this guy, it makes me wonder even more.
ive still got my Daddies sword. ive kept it and ill never get rid of it... i want to have someone tell me what/where exactly it came from one day though. its quite beat up, but its still pretty awesome to look at even now.

I knew a family that were friends with the Lutz's. After they left Amityville my friends parents stayed a weekend with them in their new home. Her Mom said they were woken up at 3:15 am by scratching at their door, nothing was there but there were scrape marks on their door that hadn't been there before. They were convinced the evil of that house followed the Lutz's. When the movie was first being released a Boston talk show had James Brolin on as a guest and also my friends parents where they described their experience. They weren't nuts or irresponsible people. Very nice level headed regular people. Whether they imagined it who knows. They didn't stay the weekend none the less, they were too frightened. Until I heard them on the talk show I had no idea they'd spent a weekend with them.

I was in that house when they left in 1974, and me and my friends heard a door slam we all went out the back window. The lower floor was all boarded up, so we went over fences to get to the back, pried the plywood off, and in we went 4 of us, Doug one of my friends was heading up stairs, and me and two girls were going to head down stairs to the basement, then the door opened , and closed, we all looked at each other, nothing needed to be said, all went out the window we came in at. A few friends that were outside , said what happened, as the light upstairs came on and went off, and the police came in the front door, was not them slamming the door as would of seen us, and us them, until this day that place creeps me out, they left everything , food on the table all was there. Spooky indeed, Doug was killed in a car accident years latter. I lived about 5 miles from it ,and went out with a girl that lived right across from it.

    • @KossolaxtheForesworn
      @KossolaxtheForesworn 5 років тому

id say many priests are not really that religious these days. its more of the want to help others and they can do it that way. so if an atheist priest went and blessed the home and started to see shit. would that just mean that his faith wasnt strong enough to drive away the evil in there. as he would just assume it not to exist either.
either way even if the priest was religious, its not really that normal for them to experience the same as the family when they are not in the same space. how would he know if he is not told what they experienced.

If someone is going to take the time to make a video like this, in order to teach people about a subject, the least they can do is dig in and do the proper research first! If you haven't already, you should do a video on the Villisca (Iowa) Axe Murders of 1912. In the middle of the night, someone crept into a small home in the farming community and killed all 8 people sleeping inside with an axe, the entire Moore family of six plus two friends of the children invited to spend the night. The house was modernized over the years but has been reverted back to 1912 style and is museum on the Iowa and National Registry of Historic Places. It's one of the most popular supposedly haunted houses to visit for paranormal investigators and is said to be haunted by the victims of the unsolved crime. A lot of eerie similarities to Amityville.

I was born and raised and currently live here on Long Island and have lived close to the Amityville Horror House and even visited it multiple times. The issue is, the house that stands on the spot of the original house is not the original house. It was knocked down shortly after the Lutz’s stay there and after the films. But the house they erected looks very similar except the “eyes” of the house; the to quarter circular windows of the attic, are now typical square or rectangular windows. The house looks very similar to the original structure so people will argue that it is still the same home but in fact it isn’t. And because the films brought so much tourism to Amityville, the locals hiss and curse at you and tell you to leave and leave the legends out of Amityville. Sometimes it seems like they are trying to hide something or at least forget it. The Amityville locals have even been known to be violent when tourist come from all over the world to glimpse at the house and when the Ryan Reynolds remake of the film was about to be released in theaters, the locals got extremely agitated and it was even on the local news stations how much hatred they had towards the tourists.

So this is my theory. Its not entirely a hoax. Rather, it was false memories and hyteric paranoia brought on by the uncomfortable feeling regarding who had previously lived there and what had happened, plus what the priest said to the family shortly after moving in caused the family to believe there would be something there, and so there was, based more on assumptions and fear induced hallucinations. The belief that something is there and therefore it seems really there. As for the seemimgly unexplainable Black goo, that stuff... Is more common than y'all might think. Its decomposed organic material as well as a shit ton of bacteria, usually a dead animal in the pipes of a house. Its super disgusting and potentially deadly

An interesting thing about the Amityville situation which may explain why the Lutzs felt that there was something going on in their house for those 28 days maybe the fact that they lived with all the DeFeo's furnishings. They sat on their chairs, at their table, slept in their beds, etc. I would like to know what happened to the original audio tapes of their interviews. I do think Jay Anson took artistic licenses as has Hollywood with their story. The instances described could have been flourished by the author and not the Lutzs for the book as they did not have final approval on the finished product.
Since they had departed, all the furnishings were removed (furniture, etc) when the new owners moved in which may also have something to do with no disturbances remaining.
Of course, if I lived in the house and was sleeping on the beds that the previous owners died in, my imagination or subconscious maybe going in overload.
I really do not think that the Lutz's intentions were to make alot of money off their experiences before moving in or after they left. There was no way to know that this would have become the phenomenon that it became. There were other true haunting stories that were before and after which did not receive the popularity as this story. Such as the Entity, The Enfield Poltergeist, the Perron Family to name a few.
Saying this, I'm not saying the house is haunted or not, but looking at the possibility that they may have felt or seen something is plausible but due to the fact of moving into a house with all the furnishings in place and sleeping in the beds, may have something more to do with what they experienced than an actual haunting.
As for Ed Warren, I don't think that man has never been in a house that wasn't haunted. I imagine even when he went to a McDonald's he probably felt that was haunted.

I used to practice witchcraft, and not knowing much about what I was doing, I ended up FLEEING from my apartment. My cat was climbing a very smooth wall, all my groceries that I had bought a day before had went bad, the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, toilet, and tub, was giving a most foul smelling black water. Then to top off the problems, I found myself paralised on the bed, the room so dark I could not see my hand in front of my face, but a hand came out of the darkness, it had black talon like nails and it started to mark me with symbols used when one dedicates themselves to the practice of witchcraft. I no longer mess with such a great and powerful craft. And I no longer live in the apartment where I did practice it.

I cut school to visit this house when I was in highschool. We trespassed as kids will. The address was removed, the well was filled in, and we hadn't known that the iconic view with the attic windows does NOT face the street. We passed it about 4 times before we realised this. This was in the 1980s and at that time it was a big deal still. A neighbor stated they called the police so we left. Basically we were looking to "feel" something. But didn't. We also found the pub, I believe it was called the witches brew. Fun times.

Wrong house then. The “Eye windows” do, in fact, face the road. They’re on the other side of the house facing the water too. In the late 1980’s the ones facing the street were changed from half moon to square and the address was slightly altered.

As someone who grew up on Long Island everyone talked about the house. My personal opinion is that George Lutz was pretty mean to his kids into the occult himself and because of that he and his wife had issues with each other and he bought that house as a last ditch effort to save his marriage but his wife had it. Then when he made up this story they both seen the the benefit financially and publicly. Then when it dried up they divorced.

This case has always fascinated me since the movie came out in my youth. Sometimes I think George Lutz caused poltergeist activity possibly demonically based whether he realised it or not. Therefore releasing these horrific forces upon his family either knowingly or unknowingly. This is a very interesting case that’s for sure. If only he was still alive we could all learn far more about the truth of this haunting. It certainly is a baffling case.

The aforementioned was another case the Suffolk County PD were investigating around the same time. During 2002-03 period a book titled The Night the DeFeo's Died was released and the author asserted it was a 7th victim but later dis-proved to be when it was established the actual case it related to. The author was issued hard copies of the DeFeo crime scene pics and the one on 0:47 was thrown into the mix accidentally.

Another interesting point about the Defeo murders is how no one in the town was awakened by or heard the rifle shots...HIGH POWERED rifle shots. Those definitely should have been heard around town...

Kami Nana They didn't mention that Marc defeo had a football injury and was in a wheel chair. No way in hell he could've done that on his own let alone with no force causing more damnage and not screaming in pain from being held down. Also the fact that all the family members shared a room next to and across each other? The murders were much more creepy than the "hauntings".

🤔 *I honestly don't see how Ronald can say "it all went so fast" when he would have had to stop and reload the gun at least 4 different times... Sometimes when people are possessed they don't have complete memories of their actions because the demon inside them has taken over as "operator" of their body, so it's like they're sitting back in a haze, watching a movie play. I wonder if that was what happened. It's just so hard to accept that a completely sane individual would off their entire family, and in such a bloody, brutal manner.*

Maybe his thoughts were racing and he never thought for a second about killing all his family so he said "It all went so fast" like he wasn't aware why he kept going at it.

if you read the book by Jay Anson youll get the picture... the kid was mad at his parents particularly his dad he wanted money and the dad wouldnt give him any ( kind of like the menendez)... to get less jail time he made a story up with his lawyers to make it look like an outer force possesed him... but really he just hated his parents and his life.. its all really scary to think your son can be so cruel. The report is wrong though theres evidence that the big sister must of woken up and one of the brothers to... Read the book its SCARY!! ( put it in the freezeer like joey) The only diabolical entity is Ronald Defeo who killed everyone and he is still in jail.

The Paranormal Scholar - 5:01 you need to check your facts. The Lutz’s did not erect the “High Hopes” sign. It was stated by George Lutz on numerous occasions that it was there from the DeFeo’s, and upon the Lutz’s moving into the home, they had the sign removed.

Back in those days 300 Thousand dollars is like a million dollars now. Remember the cost of living was a lot cheaper back then compared to today's high cost of living. Hell cigarettes were like 89 cents a pack lol And Hollywood would make a movie about anything if they feel they could make money off it. So doing a movie about a Haunted House would not be a problem. So wether the house was haunted or if it was a hoax I'll leave that for you to decide.

I've thought for awhile that the evidence pointing to Dawn being involved in the murders is fairly compelling. I've always found it suspicious that Dawn's murder was different from the others.

Interesting video. Personally, I've always been doubtful of the events in Amityville - the lack of reported activity in the decades since the Lutz's occupation, the involvement of the Warrens and Holzer, assorted shifts in various editions of the books and commentary on- and off-record by others potentially involved has done that - though I still find it fascinating.
That being said, your video brought up a possibility that I'd not heard before (at least not to this degree), and one that is actually almost plausible; that George (or possibly someone else in the house) was deliberately attempting to "tap in," so to speak, and things got out of hand. From my thinking, that's probably the most sensible explanation (if one assumes the events recorded since then are at least somewhat truthful), and would explain the lack of further hauntings at 112 Ocean Avenue.
Thanks for the video, and the interesting little ideas it's planted in my head! XD

We are glad that our video got you thinking. If the events reported to have occurred at the house are true, it does seem like George Lutz was the key. It is intriguing how several cases of hauntings can be linked back to someone dabbling with the occult (especially if they do not know what they are doing). Thanks for commenting!

    • @angelmiller3331
      @angelmiller3331 7 років тому +6

There's a documentary by one of the children, and they claim that Lutz himself(their step-father) did dabble in the occult.
Edit: Oops! If I'd watched a little further, I'd have seen the mention!

    • @40milesband

The case was real. The book was written as a novel and embellished, and the movies even more so. The Amityville case stood out because it was so over the top, but as we pick it apart now, it was really no different than similar cases we hear of today. I also believe the lack of activity since the Lutz departure is a lie, most likely to keep onlookers away.

That's the biggest question left in the Defeo case. There are a few theories about it. One of the most credible is that the family was drugged so that they remained unconscious during the crime. It is a widely accepted fact that the case was repeatedly mishandled by the police and it is possible that tox screens were never performed or were done improperly. Others point to a secret accomplice/accomplices, although this seems less likely due to the lack of evidence of a second person and the lack of another murder weapon.
