Rapunzel wasn't as messed up as I thought. The key elements (flower, Mother Gothel, hair gets cut off, tear heals the hero, ...) are still the same. There are just some adjustments in the roles (Rapunzel is clever, creative and ambitious; Eugene is egoistical, deceptive and insincere) and some adjustments to make it friendlier for kids (no birth, hero stabbed instead of painfully blinded, ...). The story I heard as a kid was definitely more messed up.
Because mermaids not have souls so yeah sea foam although I believe she actually turned into a air spirit to earn a soul alter a few hundred years of service because she could have turned into mermaid by killing the prince but didn’t letting herself die

Yea for one hera was not Hercules mother. He was a half breed born of Zeus/ Jupiter having an affair with a moral woman. Hera also did something to him to make him go temporarily insane which causes him to kill his first wife and children. So no nothing like the disney version
The Disney version made a reference to the myth Hercules’s first wife was named Megera and when he killed her and his kids, he thought she was an agent of Hades or something like that
One thing that always sees to be overlooked in Cinderella is that the original story leaves her father alive and shows him to be just as bad a parent to her as the step-mother. I thought the little mermaids story was she wanted to go up to the surface like her older sisters but was too young so she went to the sea witch and was aloud to go up onto the surface and meet the prince but without her voice she couldn’t communicate so her sisters let her come back to the ocean but she had to kill him with the knife they gave her. She failed and turned to sea foam
Similar to the one I heard. She was the youngest, and had to wait until she was older to go to the surface. When she is of age, she goes to the surface, only to find the drowning prince, and she falls in love and saves him. Afterwards, she goes and offers her voice for legs, but each step will be painful, and has a limited time. She dances for the prince to entertain him, so he falls in love with her. But the prince believes a princess from another kingdom saved him, and marries her. She’s heartbroken, and one night while they are on a boat that the marriage took place on, her sister visit her. They had cut off their long hair in return for a knife that will break the spell over the little mermaid if she kills the prince with it. She can’t do it, as she is too in love, and instead throws herself off the bow of the ship, turning to sea foam. Because of this, she is turned into a spirit of the wind. So she must aid children in their lives. For each laugh, her sentence is reduced by a certain amount, and she is closer to entering heaven. For every tear, it is added on, all in terms of her aid.
I think all the children would cry if they used the original full story for the movies. I had a fairytale book from the Brothers Grimm and though some of the story’s were still dark (I loved them the most, creepy me).. I’m glad they didn’t leave sleeping Beauty the same way as the original haha

@Kevin Sullivan; Into the Woods isn't a re-imagining, they were what the stories originally were, but as a medley . Technically, all the Disney ones are the re-imaginings.
The character interactions do not come from the original stories. And I was reading Grimm's faerie tails back in the 60s so I know how incorrect the Diznazi versions are.
I actually grew up with the original beauty and the Beast and I remember liked it. I still have the book my parents gave with it and some other tales but not according to the Brothers Grimm, but at the back it talks about the other versions of the story Oh! And also the original snow White. My evil little mind was saying that "queen" Deserves it
Also the impracticality of the shoe being glass. Many scholars believe the glass part is an incorrect translation of the original and the shoes are actually supposed to be made of a very soft type of fur, squirrel fur I believe.
In the original they danced 3 nights and the first two she always got away. So he put tar on the steps and one shoe got glued to the step. The shoe also was not made of glass. The shoe on the 3rd night was golden and there was no fairy. She got the clothes from a dove that was sitting on a tree she planted on her mothers grave. I'm german. We grow up with the original stoys. My mother read it to me when I was little and I do the same now to my son ^^ Grimms Tails are part of almost every household with children here in Germany :-)
I knew that the Pocahontas story was true and dark and that she died young, but I didn't know it was THAT dark. If you watch the movie in your history class, tell your teacher it's not true and that Pocahontas suffered much more than shown in the Disney make
When the video was playing, and it went to Bell’s origin, I felt as if the author didn’t make them fall in love. Beauty and the beast is about a girl who is trapped in an old castle, she feels pity for the captor (the beast) and falls in love, this could be from the doing of Stalk-home syndrome. That is a mental disorder where you feel pity for the person that have kidnaped you. Maybe this story has much more behind it than what our eyes can see
The story is actually based on true events that where far more disturbing. Google Petrus and Catherine Gonsalvus. I watched a whole Documentary about them and was absolutely shook.
@@craigime just Google them. They were married against their will and treated like circus animals. Their children that had the same thing their father had (he was a wolfe man) were stripped naked to make portraits of them, taken from their parents and given to foreign leaders as presents.
The true story of Pocahontas (Matoaka renamed Rebecca by catholic europeans: Pocahontas was married to Kocoum the younger brother of Chief Japazaw of the Potowomac (Potomac) tribe, lived in the Werowocomoco Village. They later moved to Kocoum’s home village, the Potowomac, along the Potomac river. Pocahontas gave birth to her first son there. Captain Samuel Argall, an adventurer recently arrived at the Jamestown colony, heard that Pocahontas was in this area and sailed there determined to kidnap her as a royal hostage for the colony to hold in negotiations with Powhatan. He coerced Japazaw and his wife into tricking Pocahontas to come aboard his ship. According to oral history described by Custalow, Kocoum was murdered before the ship with Pocahontas on it set sail for Jamestown. But even if he had survived colonial attack, his marriage to Pocahontas was considered “pagan” and not bound by Christian bigamy laws.

That means all I see is pink!!!!!!! Does that also mean that people who only hear Laurel only read my name as Blue Hero?!?!?!?!?!?! LOL, I'm thinking too deep about this
Delilah Dolan I remember my grandmother not wanting any of us (my 4 siblings and me) to read the originals when we were young so my mom secretly gave me her library card so we could go get the original stories from the library to read Lol it was awesome having a public library a stone's throw away from home
Very interesting video. As awesome as the Disney adaptations tend to be, it's great to understand where the origins of the fairy tales come from, and how they differ, as they often carried moral implications and messages that tend to be lost with the changes enacted by Disney or other studios when adapting them.
That actually is a good thing if a mermaid turns to sea-foam, also he barely goes into it Little Mermaid is the darkest or second darkest on this list.
That's because mermaids don't have souls and can't go to heaven or hell (the original is very religious). But then some type of angels take pity on her and transform fear into a sort of being of light so that she can do good deeds and earn a soul to get into heaven... That's the full ending to the story written by Hans Christian Anderson.
Did u know Snow White was the first animation? Well... Now u know Edit: all right before anyone else comments "we know that" or "everyone knows" well maybe they didn't and I'm just trying to be nice please don't be mean 😓
There were several animated things before. however Snow White was the first animated movie. The first animation was very simplistic and was created in france in 1908. Snow white was created in 1938.
Johnathan Gregg the first "animations" were actually just cartoon strips on a small lantern type thing thing was made to imitate movement. It was made on the 1800s. (I actually studied animation for a school project)
but the little mermaid turning into seafoam isn't the end of the story. the mermaid is "reborn" as a sylph (a spirit of air and wind) and gets the chance to earn a soul (mermaids are in immortal and have no soul) by acting benevolent and so gets a step closer to salvation in the afterlife
Thank You! I was hoping someone would know this! She must watch over the children of the world for...1000 years I think. Every time she smiles (at a 'good' child) she gets 1 year taken off, but for every tear she cries, another day gets added.
Which ones I knew: 01:Yes 02:Yes 03:Yes 04:Yes 05:Yes 06:Yes 07:Yes 08:Yes 09:Yes 10:Yes Wait that’s all of them… oh right I’m a brothers grim/Hans Christian Andersen nerd
I haven't even seen the movie, but my mom told me about the original story, and I've listened to the songs. I'm still a little confused about the plot, but there are definitely some things in that story that aren't kid-friendly
Have you seen the movies Into the woods it's exactly like this the prince dies because of the thorns but Rapanzuel saves him by her tears and Cinderella step sisters cut of their toes and get blind because of the birds READ MORE
I had a friend that read Peter Pan years ago. I remember her saying that Tinker bell was a prostitute and that Peter Pan was hanging with a dead Wendy. I've always wanted to read it but haven't yet.
I knew the original versions of the Rapunzel, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and stories, and the part about Cinderella's step-sister's cutting off parts of their feet in order to fit into the glass slipper, as well as the basics of the very unpleasant events of Pocahontas's short life .
Look, I keep saying this on other UA-cam video lists like this. "Cinderella" is not, I repeat not based on the Brothers Grimm's version of the story. It's based on French author Charles Perrault's version, who offers up the fairy godmother, pumpkin coach, and glass slippers and none of the bloodshed that's in the Grimm's version. Also, at the end of Perrault's, after the glass slipper fits Cinderella's foot, the stepfamily begs for forgiveness, which she does, and takes them back to the castle, where the stepsisters marry two noblemen.
Also the oldest version was theorized to China because noble women used to wrap there feet to extremely small. I forgot the name since it’s been alwhile since I read it
The Grimms' take on "Cinderella" is hardly the first version of the story, which has its origins in an old Greek tale which nobody believes to be true.

repunzels true story is shown in "into the woods" it's shown how he becomes blind
acually I think most of these are shown in into the woods
Into the Woods is a great re-imagining of the stories.
Also cinderella
@Kevin Sullivan; Into the Woods isn't a re-imagining, they were what the stories originally were, but as a medley . Technically, all the Disney ones are the re-imaginings.
The character interactions do not come from the original stories. And I was reading Grimm's faerie tails back in the 60s so I know how incorrect the Diznazi versions are.
OMG into the woods explains some of the Disney princess origin story
1:10 Disney attempted to fix this with into the woods, they used a baker, but much more accurate than Tangled

I love those books
I actually grew up with the original beauty and the Beast and I remember liked it. I still have the book my parents gave with it and some other tales but not according to the Brothers Grimm, but at the back it talks about the other versions of the story
Oh! And also the original snow White. My evil little mind was saying that "queen" Deserves it
How did the shoe fall off if it’s a perfect fit? AND how come her glass slipper didn’t turn into it’s original state BEFORE the curse?
Deus Ex Machina. How else is the Prince supposed to find her?
yeah you would think she would notice immediately if one fell off. And it is strange how it was somehow exempt from the spell wearing off.
Me remembering learning about the actual story of Rapunzel in 5th grade class:
I'm in 5 th grade
7:04 Really? I remember being taught that it was her heart the evil queen was asking. This version (in the vid) is even worse!
Astro Mec I agree with you because that is what my teacher at school said and that is what we read in a book to and the queen wanted her heart
Astro Mec not having your heart will kill you so it’s the same thing if that’s what you mean
The most messed up one has to be . . . Snow White...
Never of them are even bad.

I knew that the Pocahontas story was true and dark and that she died young, but I didn't know it was THAT dark. If you watch the movie in your history class, tell your teacher it's not true and that Pocahontas suffered much more than shown in the Disney make
Okay, but imagine this: What of Snow White is actually a vampire?
RandomnessUltraTV ji
Then poisoned garlic would work better than an apple.

I watched a whole Documentary about them and was absolutely shook.
how was it far more disturbing?
@@craigime just Google them. They were married against their will and treated like circus animals. Their children that had the same thing their father had (he was a wolfe man) were stripped naked to make portraits of them, taken from their parents and given to foreign leaders as presents.
@@WhiskasHH That's awful! How does this stuff get published???

I thot everyone knew these origin stories??
I remember having a book of all the original Disney story when I was a kid. It was simplified, but I thoroughly enjoyed it much more than the films
The pink and blue was the first Yanny or laurel
Mia Guerrero Yes!!
True True
Mia Guerrero AHAHAHA
Stop it, get some help~
That means all I see is pink!!!!!!!
Does that also mean that people who only hear Laurel only read my name as Blue Hero?!?!?!?!?!?!

I actually knew all the original stories before watching this video
Jimin Runs My World
Same

*so did I. I was always read the original when I was young*
Delilah Dolan I remember my grandmother not wanting any of us (my 4 siblings and me) to read the originals when we were young so my mom secretly gave me her library card so we could go get the original stories from the library to read Lol it was awesome having a public library a stone's throw away from home
sAME
3:50 the mother actually forced them to. love that.
A lot of the original stories are included in the musical fairytale mash up into the woods
Sir Pringle *pets you*
Yup
An excellent re-imagining of the stories.
4:06 “Pretty gruesome, don’t you think?” Not as gruesome as Game of Thrones.
Very interesting video. As awesome as the Disney adaptations tend to be, it's great to understand where the origins of the fairy tales come from, and how they differ, as they often carried moral implications and messages that tend to be lost with the changes enacted by Disney or other studios when adapting them.
Sea foam! Are you kidding me?My childhood is ruined!!!!!!:'(
That actually is a good thing if a mermaid turns to sea-foam, also he barely goes into it Little Mermaid is the darkest or second darkest on this list.
Kristi Redfern what’s so bad about sea foam it’s just foam plz explain
That's because mermaids don't have souls and can't go to heaven or hell (the original is very religious). But then some type of angels take pity on her and transform fear into a sort of being of light so that she can do good deeds and earn a soul to get into heaven... That's the full ending to the story written by Hans Christian Anderson.
I knew most of them but I never knew Mulan's true story. What do you know, I learned something new today. Thank you Screen.
3:45 ok how many times will I say, rewatch the giant flop known as into the woods by Disney, it includes all the blood and no fairy godmother
Did u know Snow White was the first animation?
Well...
Now u know
Edit: all right before anyone else comments "we know that" or "everyone knows" well maybe they didn't and I'm just trying to be nice please don't be mean 😓
I’d say first Disney movie because of obvious reasons and I don’t wanna sound like a smartass
There were several animated things before. however Snow White was the first animated movie.
The first animation was very simplistic and was created in france in 1908. Snow white was created in 1938.
apersonintheworld du like every one new that😕💻
Lit Channel Lit Channel
*DUDE* shutup I don't need ur approval
Ugh Eric how could you do that to the most prettiest princes I can't even right now
I live in Belgium and we have a tv program that has only the real desney stories

Tainan's Prince has the same name Aladdin used to pass him self off as a prince when meeting Jessamine. Remember the song?
You should talk about the origin story of the hunchback of notre dame ;)
You just want people to cry don't you.
I haven't even seen the movie, but my mom told me about the original story, and I've listened to the songs. I'm still a little confused about the plot, but there are definitely some things in that story that aren't kid-friendly
Have you seen the movies Into the woods it's exactly like this the prince dies because of the thorns but Rapanzuel saves him by her tears and Cinderella step sisters cut of their toes and get blind because of the birds

Oh and for the record, Snow White was super young.
The only bloody story I knew before I saw this video was Cinderella the Brother Grimm's tale .
Snow White is the youngest disney princess, age 13. What??????
Edit: she gets married and takes care of dwarves at age 14.
wait no shes 14. but yeah thats still creepy.
Nive Ashok whoops. Lol
actually, in the end of the movie we just see her being carried away to the castle, but she actually got arried at 15, becuase that was the legal age
Dwarfs. You only get dwarves in Middle-earth.

Oh I already Now the Rupunzel story. ;-;
Actually the original story of that evil ice queen with a boy reminded me of the first movie of The chronicles of Narnia.
Im thinking the same thing.
I love narnia but its still not my fav
4:16 LOL HA PAUSE IT LOOK AT DEM EYES THOUGH !
Disney: Let's make her the fairest lady
Brother's Grimm: HOW ABUOT WE MAKE HER PRINCE CHARMING HACK OFF HER HEAD THEN SHE GROWS IT BACK!
What about Peter Pan?
DarkLord007 Peter Pan isn't a princess
I had a friend that read Peter Pan years ago. I remember her saying that Tinker bell was a prostitute and that Peter Pan was hanging with a dead Wendy. I've always wanted to read it but haven't yet.
Sorry, darling, he is a boy, and he's not a prince AND he has nothing with a royal story to do.
DarkLord007 eh...he is not a princess, you should read the title
Peter pan isn't a princess
I knew the original versions of the Rapunzel, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and stories, and the part about Cinderella's step-sister's cutting off parts of their feet in order to fit into the glass slipper, as well as the basics of the very unpleasant events of Pocahontas's short life .
Maybe you read the Brother's Grimm version of the story, when you were a child.
Me to
He said: 'Frozen is a hartwarming story' me: 😂😂😂😂😂 yeah very warm especially annas hart in the final battle❤❤❤❤☃☃☃☃❄❄❄❄
Warm.. frozen.. ironic.
That's true. I have a class where we read Perrault's fairy tales
Perrault's version is based on Giambattista Basile's version which was written 63 years before perrault's version :)
Also the oldest version was theorized to China because noble women used to wrap there feet to extremely small. I forgot the name since it’s been alwhile since I read it
Who's version has a magical tree instead of a Fairy Godmother?
@@deontepro1 This time it's The Brothers Grimm.

How about the origin of the story Aladdin?
Cinderella by the brothers Grimm is based off a true story.
The Grimms' take on "Cinderella" is hardly the first version of the story, which has its origins in an old Greek tale which nobody believes to be true.
Omg i love the pun "poor unforunate soul" 😂
Pretty gruesome don’t ya think. The next part
Well yes, you said so!
Yes I love this video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have the dark version of Snow White in an old book that I got from my great great grandma I think. I’m 18. :)
