Being adopted from Bangkok in 1976, this musical hit my heart, maybe a subconscious thing, but it makes me cry. Thailand sided with America in the Vietnam war, hence why so many GIs we're stationed in Thailand, not just Bangkok. There were Vietnamese refugees, American GIs of all ethnics and Thais in Bangkok when I was born. Damn it, I'm still getting teary eyed. When getting a chance to audition, I overheard the producers, saying it was the first time they had someone who was born during the time in which the musical was set. I was ill prepared, but it was an honour to sing on the stage for the West end production audition
Miss Saigon is not only a masterpiece it was also one of the first plays to have Asian actors as leads from the very beginning. It transformed the theater world from using 'yellowface' actors, which, as you can imagine, is disturbing. So I am a Bui Doi, in a way, with an American father who was in the US Navy from St. Louis, Missouri. Except I was born a year late and a country away in the Philippines. My cousin, Jojo, played Thuy in the original cast. Miss Saigon is playing here in Guam from September 2-4, 2022, at the island's largest venue, the UoG Calvo Fieldhouse. I've spent time with some of the leads, and they are amazing. They sang at my house! My son, 17, is part of the ensemble. And the director is also family. I will be there supporting each night. I'm excited to watch it again! ❤🎭
its great and unforgettable experience to have watched this a year ago in west end..5 stars, highly recommended..everybody done a great job,but the engineer which is the guy in the middle jonjon briones..stands out for me..hes unbelievable..
Just saw this on Broadway in NYC... it was amazing!!! And I agree with comment below that the “Engineer” stole the show!! Esp his “American Dream” solo!!! Bravo!!
It's a great delight how the players/ensemble casts carries this sense of energy and respect for the work. Each of them light up. The interview/conversation just takes me back to how much each performers are respectful and plus the subtle inside jokes.
Luka Lame Even better than GOOD it's brilliantly mesmerising & breathtakingly raw.. Clearly a once in a lifetime, heaven-sent piece of musical theatre I keep coming back to 🎭 Would be incredible to see Eva's Kim just one more time.. she's so talented it's scary no kidding 🙋🏼
Got to watch d Manila run ... was just bummed that THE Ms Lea Salonga wasnt available d nite we went. Still, d experience was EPIC. I dont sing but knw d lyrics to this. Please don't judge them on this single performance go watch the full play online first and then make your opinion. They did an AMAZING job on Broadway. They were just performing the songs out of character here.
A big hoooray for Lea Salonga, who's played both Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables. Also Hairspray- is another musical where half the cast are black and in Buddy the Buddy Holly Story in the Harlem sequence etc. and. Very handsome black man, who played Javery as well
I'll audition again, if they run the show at the West End or Sweden, to which I was adopted. For the Swedish production, many adopted Asians went to audition
evoXpress fo real forreal Jon Jon is a very cool guy, and he’s been involved in Miss Saigon since the opening night of the ‘89 Drury Lane Original Cast, as one of the ensemble, he knows the musical inside out
Jamie Dean agree. They did good, but the guy lacks emotion. I dont feel the chemistry between them. This is supposed to be a song of couple deeply in love. But this Chris is so cold
Sumana Sumana well... this isn’t in the musical. Don’t you think it’s kinda hard for them to be like that when they are on a random stage, wearing normal clothes, and not in character
@sumana sumana: If you see even just the bootleg version of the musical. You'll see there's so much passion between the two characters. In fact, there's a shit ton of kisses in between singing. In here they're just singing for the audience, not acting.
@@juphenovesugue1106 Yeah, I agree. I believe the actor that played the Engineer was so nervous because english is not his first language. As someone who is from South America i understand how difficulty can be talking to someone who is a english native speaker. I just can't imagine how hard it can be to talk in english with a bunch of native speaker in an interview Also, Eva Noblezada is freaking amazing.
So many adoptions were carried out during this time period, and many children were taken, names were lied about and the ages of the kids so they could be adopted. I was in an orphanage
Sumana Sumana I'm glad you said that. I thought it was just me. He literally looked like he couldn't wait to be done with it and then literally SHOOS her offstage while the closing fanfare is still playing!!
This interview with google must have been so boardroom and awkward. Honestly it seems like it held the actors back from having a bit of fun, detracting from the performance. Even the interviewer stutters plenty, and so do the cast. They're all hella talented, as we all know, just this interview felt stiff.
Is it just me or the host was just too serious and doesnt have a sense of hosting humor. His way of hosting, responding and asking these talented people seemed so dry, boring and awkward at times. I wish he gets more hosting energy like how David Letterman or Jimmy Kimmel did. #Justsaying
Eva Noblezada has a good voice but she's too American in her singing nuances. She lacks the innocence of Lea Salonga's voice dynamics - young sounding, very Asian. I also miss the dramatic impact of THE Simon Bowman's nasal voice.
@@arestheberry92 Who was Viet in the main cast? Did I miss any leads? Also man ngl uh, from a traditionalist Asian American perspective, shooting for fine arts can be pretty funny sometimes.
At least they got Asians. The original cast only had Lea Salonga as the main lead, Kim. This time they have the actors for The Engineer, Kim, and Thuy as all Asian, and some ensemble. Jon Jon Briones and Eva are of course, Filipino, and you know how it is with them, they can really sing! When they shoot for musicals, they hit right on target.

So so lucky
Her voice solo soul touching n beautiful full of love,
Its not. Its like in hearing a child
You're completely right
I know this is the revival but I still differed to Lea Salonga's version, but I give JonJon the highest accolades. He is the best Engineer so far.
I just saw it in San Francisco and the cast was amazing.
I love their duet here. Very different from the stage. 😍😍😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏
Love the duet . Hoping for another revival in Broadway NYC 🙏

All great actors and good voices, they all were sop great
Would be nice if you could get the DVD in Canada. The copy from England cannot be played on DVD player here

i am still haunted by the original rendition of Bui Doi. and where it Thuy???
the guy had some flat notes. Eva's voice is strong and commanding. Both did well just the same... Congrats!

Also a great actor does not need clothes or an amazing stage to be incredible, that's all them
Miss Saigon Eva 🍪🍩
They're great but i prefer the version of the original cast... :)
The Engineer is the same.
@@amywhite2874 The actor playing the "Engineer" in this cast is also a part of the original cast in West End, but not as "The Engineer".
Eva yay 😍😍😍😂😂😁
This is the most tense interview I’ve seen. Everyone seems so stiff and nervous.
Especially the Engineer. Eva was a standout, both in the performances and the interview. A star is finally born. ⭐

Nothing compares to the original. 💞

Very awkward rendition of Chris and Kim singing 🎤 i dont feel the emotion of love from Chris while he sings hmmmm

Got to see it in ‘97 before the touring production was all changed to save money.

Eva's got passion al over her. ❤️

Gregory C it’s because they’re not performing
