Never heard of Brandon Perea before this movie, but I’m looking forward to seeing him in more movies, loved his character, and his energy. He’s a great actor and can’t wait to see what he has and what kind of roles he can play
In an industry where films are recycled , regurgitated, remakes or shitty writing with no meaningful plot, NOPE is one of the few films in recent times that has substance. It was so unique, mystifying, and, captivating. It brought back this feeling of childhood curiosity and wonder. It had me on the edge of my seat wanting to uncover the mystery of it all. The characters have depth and you genuinely care about them to the point where you feel like you’re there with them. It’s also one of the few movies that has genuinely made me scared, disturbed and feel uneasy, during, and after. I hope more Hollywood writers and directors take notes because Jordan Peele is a genius.
I think how Steven Yeun portrayed the character (and Steven Yeun in general) is incredibly underrated. What got me to love the movie aside from its amazing and captivating absurdity is how Steve Yeun portrayed the nuances of Jupe's character. Hearing them discuss that during this interview made me think how pressing it must've been to play that character which he did so astoundingly well. While I was watching, I looked at him with an immense unexplainable sinking feeling I couldn't even understand. Props to him! I hope to see him more.
He's an INCREDIBLE actor. His character in the movie "Minari" is a 180 degree polar opposite character from this movie, heartbreaking performance he really deserves an oscar.
He is extremely effective in the Korean movie 'Burning'. His technique is very subtle; he knows the movie's context/build-up from previous scenes do most of the heavy lifting which means he can inhabit these characters in a very naturalistic way w/o irony or affectation.
I think this is Jordan Peele's most unique and high quality film he's made so far, which is insane because his previous films are both award-winning. The editing and narrative of this film was incredibly unusual and I was super impressed by how distinct the film looked, especially compared to modern horror films.
When he listed the list of films Jordan gave him…you can directly peer into his mind as he was writing this. All of those movies paint such a clear vibe, and represent eerily the same things. Awesome.
And that's why this film is not fresh or unique at all. Just a mixture of Close Encounters, Jaws, Alien, War of the Worlds, The Abyss, & Westerns etc. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd rather have the originals. Maybe it's an age thing.

After seeing the movie twice and also watching the interviews that the cast has done, Jordan really created all of his movies as a “spectacle.” We were curious about what happened in Get Out, we definitely had to know what Us was about, and NOPE was a movie a pure spectacle. One line Jordan said this was about the “Violence of Attention” and that sums it all up.
Yes, because literally all the characters wanted to be seen, “violence of attention” was the furthest thing from my mind to describe it but it was perfect, he said that perfectly. I didnt think much of the movie at first but after re-evaluating my memories of it, this is a masterpiece for sure, so much Jordan took into thought, every aspect of this movie, not a single shot wasted, every scene meant somethingn
Daniel’s my favorite actor. This whole cast is just way too good to way too good. But Daniel’s way of saying so much without saying anything in this film just hits so close to home. Love Jordan peele so much as well. True artist and can tell he has true love for the att.
You can tell they all respect each other as individuals. Not just within the film as a project, but outside of the project. It’s so refreshing to see that with a cast as well as director.
I just saw Nope last night. I loved it. SPOILERS AHEAD. Having said that, I can’t help but feel like the character of Jupe was under utilised. I feel like the flashbacks positioned Jupe as the centre of the narrative, but the “present day” story didn’t reflect that enough. I wanted to see more of him with the other characters and more exploration of how his sense of survivor’s guilt played into what he was trying to do with the Star Lasso Experience. I’m going to have to watch it again, because maybe I missed some stuff, but what a fun film.
Really fun film! In my opinion though I feel like Jupe didn’t have a bigger role because the type of kid he was, a child actor in a show that was commodifying an animal for the sake of entertainment (of course unbeknownst to him because he was a child) and the show exploiting the monkey STILL carried on into his adult life. Like, the monkey didn’t kill him (the theory as to why it didn’t was because it’s eyes were covered) when he was a kid and therefore he continued to exploit animals for money, and trying to profit off of the monster in the process. But you can’t cage an animal for long and the monster goes berserk just like the monkey. I’m not sure if this was the point Peele was trying to make but that’s what I got from watching it.
Peele is just at the top of his game. Very talented guy. Love his sketches from back in the day on Key and Peele and now his movies are just smashing it. And fair play for his casting skills and sharing some black history
This interview adds so much more layers to the experience of watching NOPE. I soo much appreciate mass media in general that are born upon personal life struggles and contemplation, you can peek into the inner conflicts, questions and contradictions someone went through (or is still going through) and how they managed (or is managing, or decided how to manage) it. It is so interesting to know that the crew thinks of NOPE as a movie not so much about aliens, but more about "spectacle", the industry around it, and real live people in and outside those industries. I think the implications expand when currently ANYONE could - intentionally or unintentionally, willingly or unwillingly - be someone who spectates or becomes spectated.
one of the most in depth and entertaining films I've watched, Jordan Peele is a genius.. a pure genius and the cast and entire film crew did a phenomenal job with this film. I am a proud fan and supporter of everyone involved.
I hope we get a Directors Cut off Nope!! I noticed there were some scenes in the trailers that didn't make it in the movie and I wanna know what they mean 👀
Give it some time to sink in. Think about the deeper meanings of what was going on and what it was all about. I totally get that initial feeling though right after the film ends. But after some thought and conversations there were so many layered ideas going on throughout the film that it takes another watch to fully understand what we are watching.
Isn't that design fucking spectacular?! I feel like every on screen monster has looked the same for like six years. Grey, fleshy, and angular. Jean Jacket was the coolest piece of VFX I've seen in ages.
Remember that Jean Jacket may not be an alien. From the Biblical text from the beginning of the movie, it could be that it's a being that had meaning from long ago to take down an army that constituted horses and humans, thereby developing a taste.. Recently they made it plausible to believe that the Lochness Monster may be real, the remains of plesiosaurus's were found in a fresh water river.
It's great to see a roundtable interview where the creators just get to speak freely, intelligently and with insight about the film and the ideas behind it.
Keith David's voice has been apart of my entire life.. I can't tell if I'm remembering Goliath, Spawn, scenes in Call of Duty or something random like Lester Wallace in Barbershop
man when you watch Peele's work you can feel his love and knowledge for film. everything he does. his methods, who and how he casts, everything. its amazing.
gonna throw this out there, the organic spaceship looks like the retina of an eye consuming what it sees, the people are looking at the monster are also "consumed" by the "spectacle" of the monster/organic ship. The thing turns into different shapes that resemble ink blots a person is shown by a psychiatrist. Like it's projecting what it sees. So if we don't look at the spectacles around us, then we won't be consumed by it. hmm... Will definitely have to watch again. Loved the cinematography too. Fantastic movie!!
I'm still digesting this movie and breaking it down with my friends. We're going to watch it again tonight in 4D. My favorite part so far is the use of the purple people eater song. The story behind that song and it's placement in the film was one thing I really appreciated.
I've watched all the videos that talk about Nope and I must say that the cast, Jordan, and the themes/ideas in this film is thought provoking and I would say please keep doing what you do Jordan. Daniel Kaluuya still boss in your performance, KeKe, Brandon, and Steven your performances were top notch. Brandon, I hope to see more performances from you and you definitely nailed the character of Angel.
steven seems like such an introspective and cerebral person, i feel like he still hasn't been able to land the one role that allows him to dig really deep into it (his time in nope should've been longer). hopefully that changes
I think this is a masterpiece and over peoples heads. The same with "The Thing", this movie will get its flowers. Its so crazy the Brother/sister part of this movie that Peele spoke about because watching this feels like something you just want on. Its a "on repeat" type of movie for sure.
I swear if this movie does not get any Oscar nominations there is something really wrong with the Oscar committee I expect Jordan to be best director and I expect Keke palmer to be best female lead in a movie I guarantee it
Just saw it yesterday with my brother who is 18months older than me and very different than me personality wise so this definitely was relatable for us so I appreciate the sibling angel Jordon has in this one!
Saw Nope last weekend -- very exciting, thought-provoking, outstanding sound design, and deeply culturally layered. Fantastic job up and down call sheet. Loved the Scorpion King Crew sweatshirt!
Peele was definitely in his bag when teaching, preaching, and educating viewers about the natures, costs, and byproducts of fame/notoriety by way of this film. Even the dangers of fame's pursuit is uniquely depicted in this story. The nature of the film's antagonist wraps up these themes in a nice giant flying bow. Peele has certainly earned a supporter out of me.
This movie is unique in so many ways! Re-watchability! This movie is in the category with Jaws in that it's an instant classic that can enjoyably to be watched again and again. Something that most movies don't have. It has so many layers and it's truly thought provoking, another thing sorely lacking.
This is one of my favorite movies. I love that this movie had me questioning everything I know that I don't know about aliens. Jordan Peele is so fresh and clean with his movies. It really is appreciated and I can't wait for the next one.
I love this movie, my family lives out in the boonies here in New Mexico and I showed them all this movie on thanksgiving night. No one had watched it yet but I knew it would keep my cousins up all night haha. We all sat around our bonfire talking nothing but this film. Great times i miss seeing everyones expressions on their faces
I wonder if Jordan peele took any inspiration from Midsommar, particularly because he didn’t wait till nightfall to record some of the more terrifying scenes. Scaring people during daytime in movies is pretty rare and it’s really well done!
You can tell how personal this movie was to Jordan in these interviews man. You wouldnt think an alien horror movie could be so autobiographical but there you go lol. Symbolism-wise, it feels like everything came from IRL experiences. Maybe thats the reason this movie unnerved me so much.. you can tell how real the horror and emotion is, like it came from a super real place. Turning your trauma into monster movies is honestly pretty brilliant when you think about it
20:01 The juxtaposition in the scene in Jupe's office that Kiki Palmer is talking about reminds me of the opposite of the scene in Barry in which he talks to his class about the first time he killed someone. With Jupe, he is cheerily talking about a traumatic experience. In Barry he is traumatically talking about a great experience. Both scenes are fantastic.
Oh & yes. You film and tell a story to where you forget you are watching a movie. You feel like you are an observer of reality. That, is remarkable! I mean, just thank you! For sharing and your work
peele is an entire revolution for the film industry. his movies are like the little pine trees for cars. sidenote, its so nice to see brandon soaking the attention up. get it babey!
Watching this now after seeing this… knowing their perspective on their characters helped me understand why they were so interesting on film…. I don’t want to spoil it at all. But the spectacle, and growth of their characters isn’t even something that I even seemed to notice… just too interested in what they were dealing with… still has one of the best and scariest scenes I’ve ever seen on film….
I loved the diversity in the film and all the good actors and hope the rest of Hollywood takes note. as a ww I am really tired of the lack of diversity in films
For me what was special about this movie was the different relationships going on. And I wasn't distracted by billion dollar special effects which I think created a deeper appreciation for the quality of acting...
One less-than -one-minute scene terrorized me for days. And I'm here for interviews. And I laugh at most horror movies. This...this one short scene. NOPE

Recently they made it plausible to believe that the Lochness Monster may be real, the remains of plesiosaurus's were found in a fresh water river.
Watch it again, u may change ur mind
"Unique" ? All the scenes are nods to so many other previous big films.
I never expected the "Peele" of Key and Peele to have this sort of brain. I freaking love it. And how does one not scare themselves?
it takes a lot of knowledge and smarts to successfully do comedy!
Why wouldn’t you? Their comedy was brilliant. Good comedy requires intensely acute observational skills, and insight. Not shocking at all.
This is a really interesting observation. Thank you for sharing .
I'm still digesting this movie and breaking it down with my friends. We're going to watch it again tonight in 4D.
My favorite part so far is the use of the purple people eater song. The story behind that song and it's placement in the film was one thing I really appreciated.
everyone is so profound and articulate. such a layered and spectacular film!
You've gotta respect a director who listened and works with constructive criticism - Jordan Peele is a great artist with his work and I love it
Keke is just so amazing
she really is. an all-around great entertainer and from what i can tell, an awesome person
Jean Jacket, Jordan Peele, Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, should all get Oscars.
Or maybe just the horses?
steven seems like such an introspective and cerebral person, i feel like he still hasn't been able to land the one role that allows him to dig really deep into it (his time in nope should've been longer). hopefully that changes
I think this is a masterpiece and over peoples heads. The same with "The Thing", this movie will get its flowers. Its so crazy the Brother/sister part of this movie that Peele spoke about because watching this feels like something you just want on. Its a "on repeat" type of movie for sure.
i had a "jaws" feeling the whole time, this makes me have validation! lowkey dont want to look up just how the people didnt want to go in the water
I swear if this movie does not get any Oscar nominations there is something really wrong with the Oscar committee I expect Jordan to be best director and I expect Keke palmer to be best female lead in a movie I guarantee it
They totally deserve nominations for sure, and I'd love to see them win.
I don't know what movie you were watching.
@@darjohn9550 if you didn't get it, you weren't paying attention lmao
Considering its a summer horror, im not to sure about that. But here’s hoping some big recognition comes out of it
@@calliecocritter9247 Get Out got nominated
This was such an interesting discussion! Love how they all wanted to dive into the thoughts n feelings of the characters
jordan makes me feel excited about movies again. such a genius!!! also this cast is perfect
Keith David also voiced Dr. Facilier (The Shadow Man) from The Princess and the Frog, my favorite Disney movie!
Ughh I could've listened to them talk about this movie forever. 🤩 Those 20 minutes went by like nothing! Love this cast and this movie!!!
This interview explains a lot. I was lost for most of the movie. Now it makes sense. I’d like to see it again with fresh eyes.
When Jordan says “we’re gonna need a bigger boat!” In the key and peele ass slapping sketch. He loves Jaws!
This movie really is like a reverse Jaws with the same fears but from above rather than below
Here's a NEW "Nope" Inspired instrumental for you : ua-cam.com/video/oP5cszaJLcM/v-deo.html Enjoy :)
something about the chracter Jupe just really sticks with you. His backstory, his arc and everything. It's so depressing
Yess. Daytime scare is underrated.
I'm pretty sure that's the Jaws influence and western vibe is usually violently bright
@@dominique2o06 oh I hadn’t thought of that 🧐
I watched this with my brother and enjoyed watching the whole sibling relationship because it felt very realistic and relatable
Turning your trauma into monster movies is honestly pretty brilliant when you think about it
Jordan peele understands filmmaking
20:01 The juxtaposition in the scene in Jupe's office that Kiki Palmer is talking about reminds me of the opposite of the scene in Barry in which he talks to his class about the first time he killed someone. With Jupe, he is cheerily talking about a traumatic experience. In Barry he is traumatically talking about a great experience. Both scenes are fantastic.
My favorite film of 2022 so far and by far!!
I feel like Jordan became one of his sketches.
Brandon is so fine.
He really is I’m excited for this movie 🍿
I don’t think I’ve ever watched this much press for a movie before. Jordan and this cast are dynamite.
Thank you, Jordan and cast members each of you played a significant and extraordinary role in this
i love jordan and the whole cast as a whole, he is the glue and they are the pieces that make up the whole piece flow so well :)
I loved the sound design of this movie
I'm so impressed by Jordan Peele
You can tell Brandon been around the brothers by the way he speaks which probably helped him connect with the rest of the cast so well
lmao
the what? 😂
Nope was a good movie, but I always find myself comparing all of his movies to Get Out. Get Out was a flawless movie.
As a fan of The OA I loved seeing Brandon in this movie he was amazing 👏
Omg!! That's who that is!!! I knew he was familiar!! He is brilliant!
Dream team, no question about it! Everyone in that cast was absolute perfection.
I just wanna tell Jordan I love him
This movie was so freakin awesome! I'm considering going to see it again.
I can’t wait to see what JP brings next!
At 2:31 Jordan's demenour seems to change when Angel rants on and h'e's probably thinking "what the hell are you doin... " in that K&P way
I loved the diversity in the film and all the good actors and hope the rest of Hollywood takes note. as a ww I am really tired of the lack of diversity in films
This movie was damn good, kudos Peele! Excited to see more from him :)
Awesome movie, excellent actors Great job Jordan Peele. I'm going to watch it again.
I’m high but Jordan looks like he’s a character from one of their skits. This man is a genius tho fr.every movie was a hit
this was an amazing interview. I'm going to be coming back to this one
For me what was special about this movie was the different relationships going on. And I wasn't distracted by billion dollar special effects which I think created a deeper appreciation for the quality of acting...
I really enjoyed the film. Thank you Jordan thank you everyone 🙏🏼
Just realised Keke's character ... Gets the money shot like she predicted.
Here's a NEW "Nope" Inspired instrumental for you : ua-cam.com/video/oP5cszaJLcM/v-deo.html Enjoy :)
I love Daniel so so so much
One less-than -one-minute scene terrorized me for days. And I'm here for interviews. And I laugh at most horror movies. This...this one short scene. NOPE
Thanks so much!!
Great job cast and director. I truly HOPE for a sequel and or Prequel this story is not over guys, loving the fam like vibes.
