Not many people can really demonstrate the effectiveness and subtle tonality differences of using compression with a pedal (especially through a processed youtube video), but you absolutely nailed it. Killer playing.
I come back to this video so often, just love the demo tune. So much air, such great tones and playing. This song should be released! Can only imagine how good it would sound in full range!
Pete your playing is very inspiring, really enjoyed the solo with the classic S. Great review, awesome compressor, I have the older two knob Keeley and love it ever since I got it a decade ago. Thanks!!
Riff @ 7min 33sec gets me every time! Just the feel and the tone of it, that white Suhr! Awesome. Pete, I'm echoing my fellow youtube gear heads here and will say I look forward with semi-Christmas-morning anticipation to every new gear demo you do my friend! Really great stuff.
Good call on this compressor!!! I got mine today and it sounds unreal. More transparent than any clean boost or comp I've owned. It's a "Always On" pedal for sure. Also, it seems to get along with everything so far. Even the Vibe didn't mind it. Fuzz will hate it though. Again, I'm floored at how absolutely pure the sound is!!!
Hi Pete . Thanks for posting this . I bought this pedal and I'm really digging it . You probably saved me a bunch of cash by helping me choose the right one . Just thought you should know how much your advice helped me out . Thanks again and I hope you keep making videos like this .
Pete - would love to see you do a demo of the Jan Ray! Actually just picked one up myself and am in love with it. Dying to hear more of what it sounds like in your hands.
This is awesome. I have a 1980 Dyna Comp, but I think I want this for transparent and versatile compression. I've listened to the track several times today...that downtuned Tele tone is too good!
Great video as usual Pete! Like many others I always love the tunes you create. I've owned a two knob Keeley comp, but it sure seems this a great new pedal from Keeley that needs to be on my board. Please keep the videos coming!
Yo Pete ....! I've given myself a Keeley GC2 for christmas ho ho ho :-) It's a really nice pedal and is the finishing touch on my pedaltrain. Have a nice X-mass and thanx for all the videos you've made this year and especially this one!
The most impressive part is the lack of noise. As you know, bringing up the output gain also tends to bring up the noise floor even when not playing. Did you ever get an issue with too much of the noise floor when turning up the output gain?
great demo - confirmed what A. from the shop said . . . use the threshold during compression as well as at the end for compression and limiting. thanks! agreed - a very clean or transparent compressor - i never thought i'd like a compressor having only tried one once before; now, i dig it all the time.
Sweet demo Pete! Love the sound from that compressor. Maybe we'll get song like that tidbit on the next album now that the mellow create juices are flowing! :)
Compressor are uncharted waters to the average player that do not understand the function but are a sweet addition to any fine tone junkies sound. Mine is always on sparingly and blended 50/50 wet/dry. The guys in my band cannot even tell its on but I can in spades just by feel. Great review as always Mr Thorn.
Where do you place this on your board, before or after dirt? Would after dirt work best for this since it's a limiter? I'm not after a super squishy sound, but just to add that extra lushness for cleans and low ODs. Also might work well for controlling overall volume of drive pedals, with a boost after?
One of my favorite Pete Thorn reviews, great tune and playing! I was wondering if this pedal would be beneficial in front of a Helix or possibly in one of the loops.
this pedal sounds awesome, it's much better than the old grey keeley compressor, I've been looking for a decent one for years now, this could be it...oh and amazing playing as usual!
Super helpful video. Thank you so much! How do you think this would work on Jazz Guitar? I currently use a Fender Telecaster with a Charlie Christian pickup in the neck, followed by an MXR delay into a Rivera Quiana 35/17 watt amp, set in "vintage" mode.
Hey Pete! Big fan of all your stuff! I've currently got a strymon OB-1. This video caught my eye as I've been looking for an extremely transparent compressor that won't do any noticeable limiting but increase sustain. The OB-1 is ok, however it tends to "round" out my tone a bit too much. I liked the glassy sounding-ness of the GC-2 in your vid. Would you recommend the GC-2 or something slightly different? Thoughts?
Hey, Pete, how you doing? I hear that Keeley Bassist as well as this GC-2 serve both on guitar and bass. Is that right? I don't hide GC-2 in my region to sell, just Bassist. So I was wondering if the information was accurate. Always Grateful!
Hi Pete, where do you put it on your pedalboard? Do you mainly use it as a compressor (at the beginning of the chain) or more at the end of the chain as a limiter? By the way, keep up the good work, your videos are always awesome!! :D
Very nice. But I could have done with a lot less reverb... it makes it difficult to tell what the compressor is doing vs. what the reverb is doing, in terms of perceived sustain.
Hey Pete, the GC-2 is advertised as being for electric and acoustic guitar. I'm a fingerstyle acoustic guitar player integrating percussive and harmonic elements into my playing. I find that the percussion and harmonics components can vary dramatically with regard to attack/volume. Would this pedal help even things out for me? Would you recommend this pedal for acoustic guitar? Can you provide a review of this pedal being applied to acoustic guitar? Thanks in advance for your attention. Your professional analysis and opinion mean a lot to me.
Love this demo Pete, as usual... lol Just wondering if you've used this with the AXE FX II yet, and if so, what is the best way to make the connections? I have the AXE unit and actually, just bought this pedal because of this demo... Hope to hear your thoughts! Keep up the great informational vids and the kick ass tunes man! Al
Great as ever! Your taste in selecting the right tones reminds me a bit of Mr. Gilmour...... Any chance to give us a few instructions in chord playing on the whole neck respectively using different voicings in one of your next lessons?
how would you compare it to the keely compressor pro that you also did a review on? I have a pedal baby head, and I'm hoping to get a tube like reaction from it?
Hi Pete. About your démo vidéo. Can you tell me how you make your drums part. From where she comes ?... Editing with bfd2 Superior Drummer or something like that. Or you use loops samples ?
Pete cannot be biased because he reviews all of these products, However I would love to win a 2 hour private interview with him in his studio where he could tell me the true differences or lack of difference between all this gear and how he achieves such great sound.
If i want to get a compressor to leave on all the time and also sometimes get that tele squash, which would u recommend for an all around compressor, this or the Koji?
The pedal is great, but the tune and playing is just beautiful. Pete, you are an inspiration. Thanks for being so good. cheers
Killer playing as usual Pete and great pedal. :)
Thanks so much Justin! :)
So very grateful Mr. Thorn! Fantastic sir, really incredible.
You are the most musical player I've listened to in a long time. I could just chill to your tasty grooves for hours. Most excellent, man.
Thanks so much!
That was just about my favorite of all the demo songs you've done. Beautiful. The pedal sounds amazing, too.
I think it might be my favorite! I'm really happy with the way it came out. The pedal is a WINNER, just outstanding.
State of the art musical and production expertise and artistry ... I look forward to every video.
Not many people can really demonstrate the effectiveness and subtle tonality differences of using compression with a pedal (especially through a processed youtube video), but you absolutely nailed it. Killer playing.
Thanks man!
Pete, your playing not only shows how talented you are but it makes the most of the gear you are using. Wonderful to just listen to you play!
such beautiful, tasteful playing. while your gear is top notch, the real magic is your tremendous musicality.
These reviews are so awesome... So nice to see all different sounds on one song, especially on such a great original.
Lee Harram thanks Lee!
I come back to this video so often, just love the demo tune. So much air, such great tones and playing. This song should be released! Can only imagine how good it would sound in full range!
Definitely my favorite guitarist. Pete, your style and musicianship is awesome.
Thanks man!
Pete your playing is very inspiring, really enjoyed the solo with the classic S. Great review, awesome compressor, I have the older two knob Keeley and love it ever since I got it a decade ago. Thanks!!

If You made an album of all of these beautiful songettes,
I would would so buy it, and it would make my car go slightly faster.
:)
That intro demo is so beautiful. Love the lick at 1.24. Amazing vid Pete
Love the intro tune. Great tones as always Pete!
Love it Pete. You come across as a really nice humble guy too which makes your reviews even better to watch and listen. "Luxurious" Awesome!
I loved the finger picking on the classis-S. Wonderful demo again, Pete. Thanx.
I should really do that! I kind of owe it to them. I love the Jan Ray
Pete you have the best reviews on UA-cam, love it.
Fills the sound of each chord completely very sweet
Thanks pete
I rarely give a second look to new compressors because I'm happy with my tone press, but you've made me want this one.
Love your playing Pete! The white strat sounds amazing! Gr. Frank
I watch all your videos, Pete, and this my favorite. You're getting so good at demo vids, it's unreal. How could anyone not buy this pedal after that?
Pete, that thing sounds incredible! Amazing playing as usual!
The best compression demo I have ever heard ! Awesomely appropriate playing for the tests ! kudos
rhykko77 Thanks!
This is awesome. I have a 1980 Dyna Comp, but I think I want this for transparent and versatile compression. I've listened to the track several times today...that downtuned Tele tone is too good!
another great video by a true master!
Wow, beautiful opening tune and great demo.
Completely forgot I was watching a review/demo video for the first two minutes! Incredible playing!
Thank you Evan!
Interesting! Nice sustain and harmonics. I was trying something slightly similar with SP Compressor.
Great video as usual Pete! Like many others I always love the tunes you create. I've owned a two knob Keeley comp, but it sure seems this a great new pedal from Keeley that needs to be on my board. Please keep the videos coming!
Great demo and lovely tune...don't forget this one when doing your next album :)
Hey Pete Thorn that is a phenomenal demo - totally awesome!
A compressor is the most difficult pedal to demo, but you did a great job here. Keeley is top shelf. Thanks for the video.
Hi Pete. Amazing again And again. Cheers from Brazil.
That white Suhr S-style is such a beautiful guitar!
That opening tune was jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Yo Pete ....! I've given myself a Keeley GC2 for christmas ho ho ho :-) It's a really nice pedal and is the finishing touch on my pedaltrain. Have a nice X-mass and thanx for all the videos you've made this year and especially this one!
nice tune and yes, you made the strat sound heavenly. killer.
Easily one of the nicest pure clean sounds I've heard. If I was stuck to just one sound to play through it would be that.
That solo with your Suhr Strat was awesome ! Great review as always !
Thanks Eric!
The most impressive part is the lack of noise. As you know, bringing up the output gain also tends to bring up the noise floor even when not playing. Did you ever get an issue with too much of the noise floor when turning up the output gain?
keeley electronics and Pete Thorn's playing. It doesn't get better than that!!!
really nice tune Pete
great demo - confirmed what A. from the shop said . . . use the threshold during compression as well as at the end for compression and limiting. thanks! agreed - a very clean or transparent compressor - i never thought i'd like a compressor having only tried one once before; now, i dig it all the time.
and the pedal looks great too! ha!!!
Ok just went to Amazon and ordered up his album!
Man, you got a beautiful collection of primo gear and you can play too. Very convincing demo, thanks.
Sweet demo Pete! Love the sound from that compressor. Maybe we'll get song like that tidbit on the next album now that the mellow create juices are flowing! :)
Ya, maybe I'll use this idea and turn it into a full fledged song...
Pete, your melodies are from Heaven!! Human's alone just aren't that gifted:)
You're too kind. Thanks!
Thanks for this demo to know how works a compressor pedal.
Awesome playing Pete!! Great demo
Best gear demo man on Earth!
Great video Pete.
I use this on bass. It’s an “always on” pedal for me. Good comps for bass are pricey. This is a good value, especially if you can pick one up used.
Where do you place this on your board, before or after dirt? Would after dirt work best for this since it's a limiter? I'm not after a super squishy sound, but just to add that extra lushness for cleans and low ODs. Also might work well for controlling overall volume of drive pedals, with a boost after?
You always do Great Videos Pete!! Good job!
My kinda tones Pete..great demo!
Wow Pete, sounds amazing!
Clear, concise review! Thanks.
One of my favorite Pete Thorn reviews, great tune and playing! I was wondering if this pedal would be beneficial in front of a Helix or possibly in one of the loops.
Very nice demo Pete!
this pedal sounds awesome, it's much better than the old grey keeley compressor, I've been looking for a decent one for years now, this could be it...oh and amazing playing as usual!
Loooove your playing.
And the GC2 does sound awesome.
Thanks man!
Great Demo Pete....
Very nice Pete.....Great sound...Excellent playing.....too...😆
I like Oetes softer side, great composition.
Thanks man! Adding one to my rig
Thanks Pete!
Super helpful video. Thank you so much! How do you think this would work on Jazz Guitar? I currently use a Fender Telecaster with a Charlie Christian pickup in the neck, followed by an MXR delay into a Rivera Quiana 35/17 watt amp, set in "vintage" mode.

what a great piece of music!!!!!
Great demo, how dose it compare to the Keeley Compressor Plus. If you had to select one what one we would you select
Nice sound, Pete. Now how well does this pedal work at so called 'bedroom' level volumes. Will it increase sustain at low amp volumes? Cheers.
Holy Crap this is SUHWEEET!!! I got here via the Keeley page but Holy Crap that is some tasty playing.
Does the Compression knob act as a "Blend Knob"? Hard to find compressors with blend knobs to use with gain.
excellent review. thanks!
What wah does Pete have on his board? Right under his Polytune in the shots with the white Suhr Classic!?!
Hi Pete, where do you put it on your pedalboard? Do you mainly use it as a compressor (at the beginning of the chain) or more at the end of the chain as a limiter? By the way, keep up the good work, your videos are always awesome!! :D
I cam for the product review. I stayed for the awesome playing and tune.
Very nice. But I could have done with a lot less reverb... it makes it difficult to tell what the compressor is doing vs. what the reverb is doing, in terms of perceived sustain.
Hey Pete! Great demo as usual. How would you compare the keeley to the cali76?
Hey Pete, the GC-2 is advertised as being for electric and acoustic guitar. I'm a fingerstyle acoustic guitar player integrating percussive and harmonic elements into my playing. I enjoy all of your demos, but I think one might be my favorite!
What do you use to program your drums?
Pete! You're the best man!
Quick question: how does it do with the squashy country kind of stuff?
Real well I think!
Love this demo Pete, as usual... lol
Just wondering if you've used this with the AXE FX II yet, and if so, what is the best way to make the connections?
I have the AXE unit and actually, just bought this pedal because of this demo... Hope to hear your thoughts!
Keep up the great informational vids and the kick ass tunes man!
Al
5:05 "Luxurious" is right.
7:30 "Will even out changes between pickups.."
Great as ever! Your taste in selecting the right tones reminds me a bit of Mr. Gilmour......
Any chance to give us a few instructions in chord playing on the whole neck respectively using different voicings in one of your next lessons?
How do you get a Strat to sound like that? Awesome!
how would you compare it to the keely compressor pro that you also did a review on? I have a pedal baby head, and I'm hoping to get a tube like reaction from it?
Hi Pete. About your démo vidéo. Can you tell me how you make your drums part. From where she comes ?... Editing with bfd2 Superior Drummer or something like that. Or you use loops samples ?
Hey Pete, I've been contemplating on getting a Suhr Koji Comp. Which do you prefer? Did the GC-2 replace the Koji on your board?
Can't go wrong with either! Both are great
Pete cannot be biased because he reviews all of these products, However I would love to win a 2 hour private interview with him in his studio where he could tell me the true differences or lack of difference between all this gear and how he achieves such great sound.
Ok so this comp or the suhr koji?!? Please I gotta know!
If i want to get a compressor to leave on all the time and also sometimes get that tele squash, which would u recommend for an all around compressor, this or the Koji?
How do I set this to be a “brick wall” limiter?
