    114 feet stock is actually really good. 88 feet in a big heavy truck is downright AMAZING. That is respectable performance even on high end sports cars.

      They are not cheap for sure. The pricing is in line with other brands though. They fall somewhere in the middle on price but are the biggest brakes available.
      Going fast is fun, not being able to stop isn't though. It's nice to be able to stop quickly as well now.

    How do you use the template to check for available spacing? The website at APB doesn't explain this. I've got 2021Raptor with Vossen HF6-4 9.5" wide 20" diameter and +15 offset. Any assistance is appreciated....Love the channel!!

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 роки тому +1

      This link should be all the information you need to learn how to use the template. Way too complicated for me to explain here but you will basically print out that drawing and cut it out. Be aware you'll need a legal size paper or you'll need to print it onto two sheets at 100% scale and tape it together first. The calipers are larger than a regular sheet of paper. Once you've made your template you stick the part for the center board of the wheel into the bore and see if it will clear your spokes. www.motortrend.com/how-to/brake-wheel-fitment-check/

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 роки тому +4

      We appreciate you watching the channel. These are not for the average driver. They're not cheap, but 30ft is two car lengths at least. 5 or 10% better breaking could stop most wrecks from happening much less 25%. Everybody wants to go fast. Shortly thereafter they figure out their brakes can't stop fast enough to make the corner. Everyone will pay $500 for a cold air intake that makes 5 to 10 horsepower and somehow that makes sense for most people. It's all relative. This is my first set of big brakes, aftermarket at least. They seem to be the last thing that people want to pay for when upgrading. They make the biggest difference in keeping you out of trouble when going fast. I'm lucky to have them.

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 роки тому +2

      I went with them because they have the largest rotor and brake pad size available. Everyone else has a bit smaller rotor and the brake pad dimensions are quite a bit larger as well. There are lots of brake pad options available if you want to go ceramic or race specific applications because they work on Porsches etc. They don't have the big name yet but the product is extremely well built and is as good or better than the other brands you mentioned. If you decide to go with APB brakes, make sure you use the code BD10. It will save you some money.

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  Рік тому +2

      Yep, the stock brake lines are all you need. Take my advise, make sure you scuff some of the coating off of the face of the rotors. It can be a little thick and cause some caking on the brake pads. It's best to sand most of it off and then break in the pads.

  • @binki611
    @binki611 2 роки тому +2

    Very nice. Here are my questions. Are these 6 piston front and back? Can the hat on the rotor come color coded. You didn’t replace the brake lines. Is there a kit to do that to something more robust?
    What is the pricing for the kit and also expected installation costs or installation time?

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 роки тому +1

      This kit is for the front brakes only. Brakes are about 80% front 20% rear anyways. Upgrading the rear is negligible at best and I don't know of a kit available for the rear brakes on the F-150 that is more than just brake pads.
      I believe they only offer one color for the rotor hats at this time. Same goes for the calipers. They could be painted or powder coated pretty easily though.
      I didn't replace the brake lines because I wanted to compare the brakes one to one first. I plan on upgrading the brake lines as well. I'll be figuring out if brake lines for the previous generation work on this truck. Since this suspension changed a little bit it might not be as easy. Look for a future video soon.
      The current pricing is on their website. apbbrake.com/discount/BD10?redirect=%2Fproducts%2Fford-f-150-front
      At the time of the video posting you can use code BD10 to receive 10% off of your purchase, and free shipping, which is huge! This is for F-150 brakes only right now. They will also send you a free set of brake pedal covers.
      Installation cost is pretty dependent on your area of the country. If you're paying someone to have these put on expect to pay about an extra hour or less for installation possibly. They are not harder to install than any other brakes but you want them to take their time and be careful not to mess up the finish. You don't want them to mess anything up with your pretty calipers. Also ask them to make sure to use lots of brake cleaner on the calipers so they don't leave brake fluid sitting, causing paint issues.

You can go with the Whipple kit and their warranty or the Ford performance Whipple which comes with its own warranty. It's tuned about 75 hp less but still quite a fun truck to drive. I had my kit installed at Town & Country Ford and Bessemer AL aka TC Customs. I highly recommend them. They are just south of birmingham. I'm pretty sure they have kits available right now. If you end up going that route let them know you heard about them from us. They will take care of you. I wouldn't worry about having it done a few hours away. If something bad happens you'll want to take it back to them to have work done but that's usually not the case. These kits are pretty reliable.
