Lol that is what is referred to as edge extrusion modelling. Its older than the sculpt and retopology method.

You know why I love this more than anything... I actually don't sculpt but poly model instead. Seeing this from you is a whole lot of encouragement that any kind of modelling works.
This is absolutely brilliant, my jaw was on the floor during every step of the timelapse. The amount of time. dedication, precision, and talent that it takes to create something like this is insane. How does it feel to be one of God's favourite? 🤩

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Your the best I've seen on UA-cam capturing likeness and appeal. Your technique on modeling each asset was superb to watch. And the fact that you also started old school "box/edge modeling" this first with proper topology was a joy to see. There are artists that do ultra realistic characters with likeness ( with pores, shaders, sss, etc) that are amazing as well but your style of characters, results and presentation are something that I prefer and inspire to do.
THIS IS AMAZING!!! And I've only seen 2 minutes of this. I never would have thought to model this way, now I have to try it. Being a crafty person, I want to model and 3D print characters; some from my childhood that you can't buy and even some now like a good quality figure like Neytiri, Gamora and others, just to get the satisfaction that I did it myself. Definitely got yourself another sub just on this video alone.
