I believe psych meds are an option and not forced to qualify for a rating. The same as not being forced into a surgery that might help a physical illness, one should still be able to be rated without a surgery. I think meds just support a continuous diagnosis because you have to have to be current in a diagnosis to be able to refil a prescription for a physical illness. The same should be for psych meds. I think a current continued diagnosis that gets revisited on periodic health care visits are what supports the rating for any condition. Meds would be secondary aids to alleviate symtoms. I could be wrong but it would be good to see it in writing that meds are forced to keep a rating.
I believe regarding the mental health and medication topic, you are correct. The eCFR does not explicitly talk about medication for mental health ratings but in a way they go hand in hand if you are going through treatment with the VA or medical provider. Meds are not a requirement but it tends to be part of the whole treatment process when seeking mental health treatments.
