Everyone else gives you Cliff notes...Sped gives you the full Shakespeare. He's one of the best on UA-cam. Concise, well explained and to the point. Sped gives you every nuance to the song. One of the best!
Started learning the song a year ago but never finished it. Saw a clip of jimmy playing it in ‘It Might Get Loud’ and picked up my guitar. Thanks for the lesson.
Yeah the chorus was always kind of tricky...I was watching that scene...like finally! Now we'll see what Jimmy does...then the camera fucking cuts to a close up on his picking hand!
My favorite tutorials are the ones played on guitars WITHOUT FRET MARKERS. That way it takes forever to figure what's being played where. The best part.
You are hands down the best teacher of Led Zeppelin. A true master at the sweet science and mystical magic of playing the guitar. Sublime. I wish to thank you for sharing your gift and parting your wisdom to all of us mortals.
Great tutorial. Subscribed! You're a great method teacher. Not too slow. Not too fast. Not too detailed. Not too sloppy. Massive respect for calling out the chords and the notes too. Best way to learn as you go.
This has always been one of my favorited Led Zeppelin pieces, but I did it a bit differently back in the day. For one thing, I often took it to the open A to get this little trill Jimmy put in it at times - although that can be done in the middle of the neck too. For another I walked the climb to the highest voicing of the barred E. Eventually, I approximated the melodic counter melody along with the barred chords in the climb while playing the rhythm. Nice version he does, and the guitar sounds right for it too.
I've benn playing this since the album was released. I'm 66. I've visited several good lessons on this song on youtube over the last few years. If this isn"t the way Jimmy played it, it should've been. especially 9:36 area but it's all very good. Great lesson great player. Thank you.
Man the way you break everything down in any of your video is so meticulous, but in a very simple way. You are a fantastic teacher. Your one of my favorite teachers now. I appreciate you for your videos. Thank you very very much. Ramble On brother! 🤘🤘
This is the best tutorial I've seen. Thank you for this step by step hand positioning and strumming. I will be following your lesson tutorials and advice.
I'd give 20 years of whatever left I have to live to have your musical talent. 25 years is my last offer! Man you have an unccany ability to take something that appears monstrously complex and impenetrable, and break it down in a way that mere mortals can actually undertsand.
This is fantastic! Thank you! Would you consider doing a lesson on Dancing Days? I think that its in open G, at least in part. The live version is just as interesting as the studio as Jimmy has to replace the slide parts with picked notes.
I know this is an old video but it popped up just in time as I am gearing up to do a fully instrumented cover of this amazing song and your video really gets all the guitar parts very well. Thank you!!
Great tutorial. Probably the best I've seen, so far, for this particular song. However, you seem to have left out the rhythm guitar section after the second chorus.
Excellent lesson, the best I have seen with the sound and all the parts, I am a huge Led Zep fan and this song is one of my very favourites. Cheers mate.
Sped u are a treat man thank u for these videos!!! Between u and this Led Zeppelin complete studios recordings tabs book I got with all their songs, u play everything so dead on and are a gem in figuring out the tricky parts with these lesson videos!!! Thanks for being part of my Led Zeppelin guitar learning experience couldn’t asked for a better person!! I’ve got long way to go but I’m excited. Great channel!
Thanks Dude--- my ear training leaves a lot to be desired and Iwas able to pick up the parts in mere moments --- now i can look like a hero in the band! by the way I let all the ADs play so at least you could get a bit of change for your troubles
If you listen to the isolated guitar recording of the verse riff Jimmy starts it earlier while the solo is still happening. He also plays it fingerstyle and uses heavy open E and A strings. You can’t hear this properly in the studio full recording. If you search for isolated guitar for this song I think you will like the electric verse riff even more!
Great song, great lesson, great tone on your guitar, and also beautiful guitar. Thanks for posting this, gives me a great song I need to add to the repertoire 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Thanks very much for this excellent lesson. Your passion for the music and admiration for the musician comes across loud and clear as does the instruction you give - keep it up much appreciated
Amazing lesson my friend. Thank you so very much. That part at 22:41 is killer. I have been wanting to learn that for years. You are the best Sped. Cheers from Montreal.
Awesome lesson, I like the calm pace of your instructions, easy to follow. Love this lesson as I've been playing this song wrong and now see how to nail it. Thanks man. Hope you do more Zep tunes! Cheers 👏👏😎
Sped - you are an excellent guitarist & great communicator. The production quality of your video is outstanding and I enjoyed watching it. If your intent was to show others how to play RO as Page does...you're in the neighborhood, but a bit off the mark in most of the sections. Very tricky to play this as Page does. Are you aware of the isolated tracks for the song that are available on the net? If your interested in nailing it, suggest you get those tracks and listen to them at half speed. During the electric chorus, Page accompanies on acoustic. On the outro there is an acoustic part that Page plays as well. You can hear both of these on the isolated tracks. Not trying to sound negative here, spirit of comments is meant to be constructive criticism - I really enjoyed your video
Dude!!! From watching this vid....Im so glad things improved for you !!😂 no its a cool video. I really do love the way you improved your " character " (that maybe the wrong word lol but you can understand, I'm sure!!) Over the years!! Fan from old Alabam!!
Great job on all this. I know you like it to be right so hope you don’t mind me giving my input but I’ve spent ages getting to the bottom of the “mystery section”. Listened to isolated track slowed to 50% and there’s no F# on descending part of the2 finger slide down. 3rd finger pulls off D string at 5th to to open D and then hits the F# and open G together followed by open G and D (B 3rd Fret) together. Then back to E to D chord at beginning of section.
let me segway from the vid a bit. Faith acoustics sound amazing! a lot contributes to this, but one KEY is height of the saddle providing quick, hard break angle. This is consistent on every Faith and it's awesome. Rich tone, volume & good tension.
Just subscribed, I like what you do. Got done working and am going to pick up the guitar and play some Zep, my all-time fav. Wanted to do Ramble On and thought id look on youtube and find a cool way to work out some bugs I have with that song. Thanks for helping me! Im watching and am inspired to do some of the things you taught me, thanks. Im self taught , I spend my time ripping stuff off of others and now your included... hope you dont mind, lol. Nice to find you!
What model Faith guitar is that? - absolutely gorgeous. Your instruction is impeccable - and the patience and meticulous detail your provide is very generous of you. Thanks for all you do!!
Charles von Bocker Hey Charles, thanks for the wicked comment! So glad you enjoyed the lesson. The guitar is a Faith Blood Moon. Should be linked in the video description! 👌🏻
Sped...Quick story. I am 60. I signed up for lessons for the first time since 1973. I wanted to learn Ramble on...Honestly I could not get the chords the teacher wrote out. I was getting frustrated. I clicked on your lesson and went and tried it..I think I have it down...At least the fist part. I am not subscribed. Thank you brother!!
I’m super happy that you’ve had success with this video! Stick with it and get the rest of it down, there’s so many cool rhythms and lead lines in this song. And if you’re not subscribed, why not just hit the button? We can learn another song together soon! 🙌🏻
Just found this today, brilliant teacher seems I’m not the only one that thinks this either! Congrats on the subscriber growth! You have another one here
Just subscribed. Please tell the correct tuning to “In My Time Of Dying”? I have played it on slide in several. Open G, C, and now found another? EADGc#E??Rick

My pleasure, just referenced this very documentary in my latest Kashmir video!
Yeah the chorus was always kind of tricky...I was watching that scene...like finally! Now we'll see what Jimmy does...then the camera fucking cuts to a close up on his picking hand!
Thanks so much from Carson City Nevada US
My favorite tutorials are the ones played on guitars WITHOUT FRET MARKERS. That way it takes forever to figure what's being played where. The best part.
Use the computer logo face/ chin as a marker for the 4th fret😛
Wow, just wow! That has everything you could ever wanna know about that song is a guitar player, thank you so much
Pleasure! 🔥🔥🔥
You are hands down the best teacher of Led Zeppelin. A true master at the sweet science and mystical magic of playing the guitar. Sublime. I wish to thank you for sharing your gift and parting your wisdom to all of us mortals.
Another song I’ve half known for 30 years, and just learned perfectly with your lesson. Another nice lesson Sped.
Thank you for learning with me, it's been a pleasure!
Great tutorial. Subscribed! You're a great method teacher. Not too slow. Not too fast. Not too detailed. Not too sloppy. Massive respect for calling out the chords and the notes too. Best way to learn as you go.
Thanks so much for this! Awesome comment and glad you liked my style! Hope you got it down!

You're an outstanding and gifted instructor, Sped. Please, for us mortals, keep on keepin' on teaching us guitar. Thank you, Sir. Bravo!
Thank you! You’re too kind. Don’t worry I’m not going anywhere just yet. Loads of cool ideas planned. 🙌🏻
Yea, is this guy a great teacher, or what. In my opinion hands down the best Zep lessons on the tube.
You’re a legend Robert, thanks! ❤️
Stumbled upon this many yrs ago and it was to difficult for me, I bookmarked it and just come back to it, great lesson. Subscribed 🙂

Excellent instruction. Ramble On is by no means easy to master but your superb instruction allows one to go step by step and get it. Thank you!
You’re welcome, glad it worked out for you. Just dropped a new LZ vid. ✨
I think having the tab at the bottom would be extremely helpful. You did an execellent job regardless!
Need to learn this song for a gig coming up and brother you saved my LIFE. Jimmy ain’t no joke on the guitar and this was so so helpful. Rock on man
I've benn playing this since the album was released. I'm 66. I've visited several good lessons on this song on youtube over the last few years. If this isn"t the way Jimmy played it, it should've been. especially 9:36 area but it's all very good. Great lesson great player. Thank you.

Wow, great lesson ... seriously very thorough and well explained. You and Tim pierce are my fav teachers now
Alex Bueno Thanks Alex that’s wicked! 🖤
This is perfect. I recently bought A new Les Paul Standard and have been in bad Zep hook since.
This is the best tutorial I've seen. Thank you for this step by step hand positioning and strumming. I will be following your lesson tutorials and advice.
The section @ 24:00 makes my mouth water! It's so sweet at speed

I struggled with other tutorials on this song- this lays it out better than any of the others, I can actually play this now....
How cool is that Mark, I try to keep things simple. Have fun playing it. 💪🏻
Thank's Sped I have been playing it wrong for years it seams, close but not as close as your take.
My pleasure! Glad it was useful.
I know this is an old video but it popped up just in time as I am gearing up to do a fully instrumented cover of this amazing song and your video really gets all the guitar parts very well. Thank you!!
I’m glad it popped up Vesper! Happy to help and stoked that you like my content. 👏🏻

Just realised the pre-chorus F is the opening riff to Oasis-Supersonic 🤯
I’m new to this so only started to recognise these kind of things.
Sound r kid. You might get a little Radiohead out of that chord too. 🙌🏻✨
Man! Fantastic tutorial!
Fantastic tutorial! Subbed.
