      The perception of old has changed a lot in the last few decades. This new generation has a lot more grandparents that survive well into their 80s or even 90s more than previous generations. 70 is rapidly looking younger and younger as public health improves, smoking especially.

    Technically he has the right to keep the money under law. It might be different per state but generally speaking if you bought a house and you found valuables in it. You usually can keep it with little to no trouble. Because it's the fault of the previous owners for not fully clearing out the property when they sold it. So when you buy a property anything found within the property is yours.

      In short I wouldn't give the money back.
      My reason for it is that they got plenty before and after they sold the home. $6,000 is going to seem more than likely nothing.
      Now of course I can be wrong, but with the information given that's about how I feel ethically.

    2. When year is printed on the bills?

    Legally speaking in most states, anything found within a house that’s been purchased now belongs to the buyer of that property. It’s a finders keepers rule. Which sounds kinda messed up but this is up to him what he wants to do….

    I’d imagine they weren’t the ones who put that money up there. And if they did who’d forget putting 6k in attic…like cmon. I’m the type to do the right thing always but there’s a lot to it that could’ve taken place and people lie so much nowadays that if you told them they’d probably say it’s theirs. So I feel like it’s just worth keeping atp. And it’s their house now and whatever is left behind becomes the new owners property legally.

    What is the actual law on this? Like, when you purchased the home, did you purchase its contents?
    As long as the house was as described and you feel that the former owners were honest sellers, the right thing to do is to see if it can be returned, so long as you can confirm it actually belongs to the people you bought the house from.

    Logic falls that you bought the house and that came with the house, just like if they had a floor safe or anything of that manner hidden in the house and they forgot about it, that becomes your property after the final signing of the contract.
    I understand the treat others how you would like to be treated, but say you go to a goodwill and find $100 bill in a purse or wallet old jacket you bought for $25? Would you take the $100 bill back?

    You don’t know whose it is and they could lie and take it.
    If they say 2k they could be lying, but if the guy said “idk something like 5700-6000.” Then it’s probably legit.
