I just love the tag line "Look Up" and how it can mean so many different things, not just "look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane..." but look up in a world that just wants to put you down, because their is hope out there, and that hope is Superman
So the opening of the trailer looked so much like the Man of Steel trailers. I was getting nervous, and then Krypto showed up. That silly, adorable, good boy changed how I felt entirely. A Superman who has a dog that loves him like that is a Superman with feelings (other than anger), and that's the kind of Superman we need.
It's strange. I almost got a day in the life of a superhero kind of vibe. A slice of life kind of feel. We dip into the life of Superman for a few days; a world already populated by superheroes (maybe even a Justice League), and we'll follow him for a while, and then leave while his life goes on. Kinda like Perfect Days.
@@kevinluu7024 why though? Those characters just exist in the world. As long as they serve the story what’s the problem? This is a common thing in the comics and in the Superman animated series and it often works really really well. And if there is anyone that can work with a large ensemble it’s Gunn.
Ive been mourning the finale of the incredible Superman and Lois Tv Show only to be subjected to this mad rush of hope and optimism from this new trailer. Tyler Hoechlin was iconic in the role and now its David Corenswet's turn. With Krypto by his side , I can't wait to see Superman take flight again.
Why?? What makes you say that? Nothing in this trailer was hopeful. You only saying that because the reused super man theme - which is lazy by itself. Not inspiring at all
If Gunn made a talking Raccoon and a tree two of comic book cinema's most beloved characters, then I have zero concerns about how he will handle a character like Krypto and the ensemble supporting characters.
It's the robot Kalex, a prominent superman character who lives at the fortress and sometimes looks after Krypto who usually stays there, I don't see why it wouldn't be Kalex
The issue with all the characters in the past films is that they are essentially all of their origins. In this world, all these superheroes already have existed for a long time now. I love that, reminds me of Venture Bros
I fully get Dan’s concern…but on the other side of the conversation….while DC’s history gives cause for concern…James GUNN’s gives me nothing but excitement
that curly hair sure makes the transformation believable. for all his talk about making superman grounded in reality, snyder still think his superman can just put on glasses and people won't recognize him as supes. lol...
The other superheroes serve very intentional purpose. 1) They are good way to populate this world as one with established superheroes. They are side characters, very little time will be dedicated to flesh them out. They will have personality, but Gunn isn't going to get lost in the weeds of giving origins for them the way Josstice League did. 2) Thematically, they will work as foils for what Superman represents. The tone of the trailer is very much one of hope, and it feels uplifting. In a world with a myriad of superheroes, what is it about Superman in particular that makes him stand above the others, the hero children call out to in times of turmoil. Gunn is going to explore the pillar of hope that is Superman, by showing other heroes who might have more cynical world views that Superman will change.
The trailer nailed the hopeful and optimistic tone of Superman. Things like haircut or suit complaints are minor to that. I’m also concerned that it may be overstuffed but the teaser did its job. Best trailer for a 2025 superhero movie that we’ve seen so far.
My biggest fear even before this trailer was hearing more and more characters that were being added, just reading the lineup it's like a later Avengers movie.
Based on the things you liked about the trailer you should really check out Superman and Lois if you haven't already. Reinterpretations of classic comic pages, a great season 4 episode dealing with the sacrifice of maintaining a secret identity, unexpected twists on classic stories and ultimately Superman dealing with stuff where his powers don't give him an advantage (raising teenagers).
I watched the trailer before watching this and wanted to get other people's opinions Loads of reviews popped up. But your opinion is the only one I wanted because you're the only person who is honest and not afraid to pick out the negatives as well as the positives. Keep up the good work, Dan 👍
Damn I knew that it was filmed in Cleveland but I didn’t realize how much it would be featured. It’s nice to see, as being from there, that the original Metropolis from the creators was based on Cleveland
Thanks for posting this video because I didn't know the trailer had dropped. Watched it before your video. Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts because you articulate yourself better than I ever could. The best thing I could say after watching the trailer is "Cool!" You're the best Dan!
Excellent perspectives, Dan! I totally agree. It looks to be an excellent take on the Superman character himself. And I'm confident there will be some amazing action sequences with Superman. But the story could be overstuffed with all the side characters. Even if those stories are told well, I still want a movie that focuses on Clark/Superman for 70% of the time. Whether we get something like that remains to be seen.
I really appreciate your take on the trailer and the movie. Very measured and unbiased. I have a lot of faith in James Gunn considering he knows how to juggle a lot of characters.
I saw the trailer and was very underwhelmed. I was expecting a lot of negative comments and seeing overwhelming positive comments made me rethink. I don't think this movie is for me, but I hope it will be for the large number of DC and Superman fans out there. I hope you all enjoy it
I think in a word it made me feel, Hope. I feel like we live in a world that is in need of the aspirational goodness that Superman can bring and I know it's just a movie but I have hope for the kids that get to look up to a version of the character that I'm hoping this can bring. It feels like James Gunn just gets it. Stay safe out there friends ✌️
Dan I’ve been waiting all day. I consider you the foremost expert on Superman because of how much you love the Reeve version. Can’t wait to watch this!
I would say the experts of Superman to be those who read the comics and who write Superman, Reeves is amazing but it barley scratches the surface of Supermans mythos
I loved the shot in the teaser of Superman saving that girl. Reminded me of the great shot of Clark saving the kid from the exploding truck they used for most of the Smallville theme songs. I also worry there might be too many elements, but hopefully the actual trailer will show some kind of story threading it together.
Krypto reveal got an actual shout out of me. I can’t wait for it. I loved Man of Steel but I’m more than ready for a new take on Superman, and this looks like it’s going to be great!
2:04: I would be happy with this. Lois Lane is an All-Star Investigative Journalist, but in past incarnations, she couldn't figure out that Clark Kent and Superman are the same person, even though they look exactly the same and are never in the same place at the same time. Zack Snyder efficiently got around this by just having his secret exposed to her the very first time they met, but if this time she is aware or at least suspicious, it both takes care of the logic problem but also doesn't insult her intelligence.
I'm still bummed that Henry Cavill is not playing Superman and this trailer seems to show the vision Cavill and Christopher McQuarrie wanted to take with Superman. However, this does look solid from Gunn and I'm very certain he'll deliver a quality movie. Good luck Gunn.
Most people don't know about krypto so a dog is not typically associated with Superman. I'd guess the vast majority of viewers (like myself) do not read the comics and have never read any or most comic books.
I was skeptical of the movie at first, but after seeing the teaser, I'm starting to feel optimistic about this. I really hope they pull it off this time around.
4:25 This is a very small thing to get fixated on but the expression on Lex Luthor’s face in that shot where he’s holding the gun is so peculiar… it’s like “wait, what?”. It’s a bit of a weird expression to put out of context. I’ve seen this trailer like ten times already and for some strange reason it’s the question I most want answered. 😂
It was a good trailer. My only fear is it feels like there’s a lot of characters and I hope they don’t cram too much in. I really want this film to be great and succeed.
Exactly. People over hyping this. They added characters because they knew it wasn’t going to be strong. But I also agree to not drop one character each movie. This is sort of a copy of marvel. Have all future characters in the first couple movies to set the universe.
Yeah this is also worrying me. But then again, James Gunn has been able to balance multiple characters in his movies before, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt there
I agree with everything you said. The “Superman” of the trailer was great. But everything else I have questions about. My fear is that they will just drop us in this world and not establish characters enough.
So many characters, cameos? Red flag. But I'm eager to see the film. Superman is the GOAT and deserving of the most excellent depiction. But is Gunn the one for the job? We'll see.
I’ve seen enough of what Gunn does and I’m certain that every piece will fit into place. He earned enough goodwill for us to be able to trust this man. The extra heroes in this are just to probably feel out the universe and to enhance this particular story…I truly don’t believe Gunn is jumping the gun (no pun intended) in trying to rush world-building or anything like that.
James Gunn says he understands Superman. With the Christopher Reeve documentary mirroring a LOT of the same editing choices this trailer made, and considering how it was about the "Legacy" of both Supes and Reeve as the character, and the idea of hero embodying hope in general... ...I think he DOES understand Superman. I think he DOES understand what the Superhero genre needs. I DO think this will be a great film. At least...I'm hopeful.
the reason this trailer only bolstered my excitement was how weird and comic booky it feels. i love how gunn is normalizing sci fi and superheroes in this world as it grants superman a whole new context.
I'm one of those grew up believing that superman is boring, he's indestructible, but recently some comics have turned me around so i think its cool to see him bleeding and not the jesus symbolism in snyderverse
I'm just glad that the DC movie universe and the DC good comic universe seem to be the same. No more " one hero at a time " water boarding - we're diving into the deep end , with Metamorpho, Krypto, the Lantern Corps, and pretty damn near everything else ready to go right now. Since the animated universe and the live action universe are the same, too, their World War 2 is going to be full of Sgt. Rock, The Haunted Tank, the Losers, Weird War Tales, and on and on. It's all on the menu, boys.
Looks fantastic. Gunn can do large ensemble casts and make you care about all of them. Although we don't know how much screen time these will have. Some of them might just be extended cameos. Either way I have faith in JG. And Krypto was the highlight for me. What a good boy. 😊
My guess for the guy in the black suit, is that it's Bizzaro. He looks like a similar build to Superman, and would be a guy that's certainly able to fight him since he has the same powers.
I think the other heros in the trailer are there to show how the world is before Superman. My idea is they talk in the news about how they feel about Superman, see him in rush in and help them save the day. Basically talking heads about what they think about this guy who can fly and punch things but also acts like a dork. They serve as audience surrogates with a vast array of opinions. -The person who thinks Superman is doing good but is in over his head who will latter try to help him. -The person who finds him annoying but will latter find him endearing. -The person who wants to help him but is afraid of people like Luthor who will latter learn that they have to take a firm stand against injustice even if that injustice is homegrown.
Every piece individually looks amazing. Even CGI that tends to be a weakness for DC (IMO) looks good in this. The problem is the number of pieces and that we have no idea how they connect. There are a lot of characters to introduce. A lot!
It's not Lex fighting Superman, it's the Engineer or her partner, possibly Ultraman, we don't know for sure yet, but he is a big dude with a U on his chest.
with just one movie, gunn already makes dcu seems alive and brimming with endless possibilities. meanwhile, snyder got stuck with zod, yet again, and then a zombie zod in the sequel.
I feel like it's highly likely that the other superheroes are only in the beginning of the movie and then they leave. James Gunn was adamant about them not overcrowding the movie or just being there to promote their future projects.
I think the trailor looks great. I'm just worried about the superman acting. I feel like in every shot he just has a thousand mile stare and is just kinda blank. This could just be the shots the picked of him though.
The same major movies over and over and over and over (yes I counted the major ones) and over and over and over, because risks are not allowed whatsoever. We're left with some random minor surprises. Hollywood ended in the 1990's, major movies are basically just investment properties now..
I agree with you. The Superman footage in the teaser was perfect; all the other stuff gives me pause. I have high hopes, though. James Gunn is a director I've really come to enjoy and respect. My hope for the non-Superman stuff is that they are only there to world build. This isn't an origin story, so we need to be able to step into this fully formed world. The appearance of other superheroes could help with that as long as they don't pull focus from Superman and his story
Its the superman i remember as a kid. The fact that they are brave enough to include Krypto is enough to get me to want to watch it.
Completely agree! I'm so happy they are including Krypto. I cried when he was in the trailer
I just love the tag line "Look Up" and how it can mean so many different things, not just "look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane..." but look up in a world that just wants to put you down, because their is hope out there, and that hope is Superman
Agreed! The tag line is brilliant. They nailed it.
Superman beaten and bloody and it’s still so much brighter, and hopeful than any recent DC movie.
@travisstaggs5136. Because Supie's dog saves him :-)

not for me. Too many supers in one trailer. I want a superman movie, not a superfriends movie.
DC has been so hit or miss for the past 15 years but I am so excited for this! It got me teary eyed.
It's strange. I almost got a day in the life of a superhero kind of vibe. A slice of life kind of feel. that curly hair sure makes the transformation believable. for all his talk about making superman grounded in reality, snyder still think his superman can just put on glasses and people won't recognize him as supes. lol...
Completely agree. There are so many characters and ideas in this - felt like a trailer for a trilogy, not a single movie.
Another thing i loved about the teaser is that it was spoken in whispers, yells, and other ways throughout it.

I feel like it's highly likely that the other superheroes are only in the beginning of the movie and then they leave. James Gunn was adamant about them not overcrowding the movie or just being there to promote their future projects.
I guess we have to trust James Gunn on this. He did well on Guardians and also Suicide Squad. We have yet to see if it's a DC curse or not.
I think the trailor looks great. I'm just worried about the superman acting. I feel like in every shot he just has a thousand mile stare and is just kinda blank. This could just be the shots the picked of him though.
I feel like there's enough stuff for 3 movies just from that teaser alone
July 2025 gonna be fun to track box office wise
Yesss Dan the man.
I just don't want another explosion scene with people burning to death in front of Superman at the US capital.
I can’t help but wonder how many of these shots will actually wind up in the movie.
I noticed a few of the shots in the trailer were direct 1 to 1 shots matched from the original Superman movie with Reeves
The same major movies over and over and over and over (yes I counted the major ones) and over and over and over, because risks are not allowed whatsoever. We're left with some random minor surprises. Hollywood ended in the 1990's, major movies are basically just investment properties now..
It looks good, but I have the same concerns Dan, I hope James Gunn made the movie he wanted, we have to wait.
Krypto gave me goosebumps! 🤣🤘
3C has a great trailer breakdown video
Glad to hear its not an origin movie. Fresh stuff like Krypto is a welcome surprise
No dialogue? Supes talks to Krypto! That's the most important thing!
