    Love your passion for grafting. Thanks for sharing your experience. I grafted probably 15 different apple scion varieties onto a several very mature pacific crabapple trees. Some scions are about 2ft now and thriving. Amazing. At this growth rate im guessing some will flower next year which would be awesome.

    Nice to see someone who gets as excited as I do about grafts! I did tongue and groove last year, putting pears on my green apple tree. I will try this technique to put red apples on my tree now. Thank you!

    I've been using bark graft to top work mango (multi grafted), cherimoya (multi grafted atemoya), pomelo, apricot to donut peach . My favorite graft!

    Nice, AJ! Love bark grafts. They work out so well. I bought wax to seal the large openings these days. Much quicker to just paint it on and let it dry. Best of luck.We love Plutos, especially the Flavor king and Flavor Grenade, boy are they great fruit, and the Spice Zee is a great piece of fruit as well. Let me know if you need budwood of Flavor King and Flavor Grendade. I have 2 large trees of them both. Both must be 8-10 feet tall. We also love the Splash pluot as well. Smaller fruit but very sweet and kiddos love them, great flavor.

      Thanks! I like the wax too, but I ran out of it. Gotta get more. I'm looking forward to trying some of this fruit, especially the Spice Zee Nectaplum. Thanks for the offer. I'm interested in the Flavor Grenade pluot. Been looking for scions for a while. Thanks

      I got bee wax too. How do you apply it? It is solid. I can melt it, but then it is too hot. Thanks

    You make it look so easy, it seems the bark graft with an older tree seems to have a higher take rate from what I've seen. Have you seen that also?

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  2 роки тому +4

      Yeah it seems to work really well on older trees, thanks to the established root system and energy flow in the branches. It’s amazing how fast and vigorous these small scions grow on these older trees. A few years back I did an avocado graft on the stump of a 30 year old tree. That scion grew eight feet in one year!

    Nice to see a fruit tree grafting video from southern California. We had a couple dozen fruit trees there when I was a kid. Any follow up on the pluots?

    • @AJTheGraftMan

      The pluot grafts grew very vigorously the first year, but no fruit. I pruned the growth back a little bit and I expect some fruit this year

    Just FYI,
    When doing a bark graft be sure to bevel the edges where you cut with the saw before you do your graft..
    This will allow more the cambium to help heal the cut off of the trunk faster 👍

    When you wrap the scion you wrap it completely including the buds?

    Great tutorial.
    For wedge grafts, how long until I take off the grafting tape?
    I can see the juices under the tape, (it's been 6 weeks), do I take it off?

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  2 роки тому

      The tape should start to disintegrate on its own. It takes a few months though. If you want, you can remove the tape after you're sure the graft has taken and the first growth flush from the scion has fully matured (full sized leaves have formed on the scion).

    Will it work in fall in Arizona when it's barely starting to cool down. Or does it only work when the trees are fully dormant?

    the issue with peaches is the bark can be very thin, easily breaks and hard to work with. I had to use other tape to keep the parafilm from unwrapping.

    Flavor Queen has not been very productive for us. The brix is very high, averaging 28, with some fruit surpassing 30. imo the flavor is just not there. extremely sweet but not much more. it's my least favorite pluot. Flavor king, and flavor grenade are much more flavorful and productive. Cool grafting btw

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  2 роки тому

      Wish I knew this before I did these grafts. I believe I did some Flavor King grafts onto this tree. They're on other branches. I think I also did a variety called Dapple Supreme. I've been looking for Flavor grenade for a while. Hope to find it soon. Thanks for the info!
