This has been the clearest presentation I have watched throughout all others although I also understood what they tried to show. Thanks very much indeed.
Thanks a ton! I had to transplant a few fruit trees last spring for my mom, one didn't make it, now I can replace it without having to buy one and wait insanely longer!
Thanks for the video. I never knew grafting was such a simple procedure. I have a volunteer hybrid tree sprouted from a mix of Burkett and Stewart that resulted in a rounded nut slightly smaller than the Burkett, but with a hard thicker shell that is very resistant to case borers. I have wanted to propagate the tree and your video gives me a viable solution.
I today just realized that the Pear tree i bought was grafted. Its a funny story really not too long after i bought it maybe 5 years ago i accidentally dropped a bench on it which caused it to split i was gutted but i got some tape and wrapped it round the cut and hoped for the best and luckily it made it through and somehow healed. that trauma caused the pear tree to off branch close to the bottom of the stem and make a new stem which today i realized after staring at the pear tree that the other stem of the tree was flowering completely different to the other stem which was already in bloom while the newer stem is just about to bloom, on closer inspection they are both differently coloured one is brown and the other more grey. I am pretty chuffed that i now have two pear trees in one growing and look forward to when it finally starts producing fruit and seeing what it makes.
My dumb ass brother decided to cut one of the fruit trees in my backyard that's been there for 30 years that my grandma planted. I remember learning this In agriculture class, but forgot how to specifically do it, so I'm gonna graft some of it back on, and at least save it. It's just a long stump rn so perfect for grafting I guess.
I just pruned back lower apple branches before the buds come in. I'll remember to stick my scions in the fridge when they get here, making a 5-in-1 apple tree out of an overgrown 20 year mac. Video was helpful, I only just started grafting.
Thank you my buddy has some really nice apple trees in his little orchard ,I'm going to try and grafht some of his trees to some crab apple trees around my pasture feilds I've heard it will work ,I will find out here soon as the rains quit
In grafting stems of two different plants are joined to produce a new plant. One part is called stock and other part is called scion. Both are obliquely cut and placed over each other and tired with a tape. Part of stock remain rooted but scion is seperated from mother plant. After a month both plants unite each other and new plant develops from the scion. Stock provides water and minerals from the soil to the developing plant
Thanks Patrick- We were grafting a couple of American persimmon selections onto American persimmon rootstock. Once these grafts take and bud out we'll post a follow up vid on how to care for them. Dudley
Hi great video thankyou! Can i ask how long before you remove the tape? just throwing this out there but would vaseline be good as a water sealant? or maybe pine resin glue?thanks shaz
Amazing teacher, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can you graft fruit on any tree? Do fruit trees generally work better with fruit stock or does it really not matter?
my dude, when u grafting, u hold the flat side of the knife, towards the side u r cutting on, hence the flat edge, is meant to give you a flat cut, with better surface to surface contact...you're using the grafting knife backwards, and grafting with the bevel side, towards the scion when you're cutting, and it's causing you to have to cut the scions many more times than you would normally, because the knife isn't being wielded properly.
All the questions you ask are answered in the book of GRAFTING, sitting in public libraries . There should be more than half a dozen books written by master grafters . And they are FREE. ( of course, it's your tax money. Don't waste it ) Have fun ! Take it easy, but take it !
i've been trying to propigate cuttings from my peach tree for a long time now with no success. maybe grafting is a better choice! Thank you for posting this.
@@thehuntersight7548 i have since learned that they need to be in the same family at least. last year i grafted my first trees. i had two survive and the rootstocks were native persimmon but i grafted japanese persimmon onto them. one had a flower that it aborted but they ended up growing 5 ft in one season.
im sorry im not questioning how u do things or saying your wrong, I just really want to understand the whys of everything. great video by the way thank you.
Thank you. I am in a Master Gardener Program and I didn't fully understand the terms used nor did I have a clear picture in my mind. I am planning on grafting some Japanese Maples to some Mapple rootstock. Not to sure about when the bark is slipping though. Most of the buds here are about 3wks from opening.
Is this the same process for a lemon tree. I have a beauty of a tree and I'm moving house. I'd love to graft it on to another so I can bring to my new place
I have a pear fruit tree that did not make it thru winter and came back from root. I am being told it will not fruit unless I graft it. I would like to keep the tree - can I graft it onto itself? Would that cause it to produce fruit? Or should I obtain a scion of grafted pear tree?
people will dislike any video they see, despite the title or contents. there's a lot of bots out there that just go through videos or target specific channels, just to dislike them.
Cool video. How important is it that the rootstock and graft are from a similar plant family? Can I use guns out the back in the reserve to graft fruit onto??
Would it be possible to use grafting methods to Dwarf-ify a full grown adult fruit bearing tree? Like, every place where there is a lot of length in-between important transitions or fruiting portions you cut out that length and graft it back together as to shorten the entire structure?
So does this work for repairing bushes that have dead limbs on one side? Could I just cut the bad limps out and splice new ones in their place and hopefully it could recover?
Old video but also priceless. Thank you, because of YOUR video I have successfully grafted many trees.
🌹🌹🌿🏵️🌻
I was able to grow a locacaca fruit!
This is the video that got me started in grafting. Excellent for beginners!

Thanks for a very clear showing of how to do grafting . Can't wait to see if it has worked. Lee UK
This is Good Idea .!!! We thank all those who contributed to this creativity. !

Put the stump in a large pot and turn it into a bonsai!
Undim I’d whooped he’s ass lol
how'd it turn out?
How's the tree?
Wheres the tree??
thanks for the tutorial brother this helped me in my botany exam

good vid. very relaxing just how gardening should be
Now this is a tree surgeon in every sense of the word.
How this tree do now? Can you take a video?

i know this is late, but I’m starting to do botany and tree related things, so thanks for this video man.
thanks again, second watch to give me confidence to get out there today and graft persimmons.
Hi, While i was watching your video i found that i also became very peaceful. Must be that is what you emanate all the time.

What is the purpose of grafting a persimmon to another persimmon unless the fruit on one particular tree may produce more or taste better?
+Larry342516 one rootsrock may have better desease resistance or is able handle different soils better
swn02 Or handle a different climate. Which is a trick used to grow rose varieties in Florida that do not tolerate heat well.
Good question, possibly to ensure the tree you get is a female (and not a male) thus yielding fruit? That's my best guess
NativNurseries is it possible to graft a fruit tree to say a oak rootstock?
Amazing! You make it very simple. Thank you!
Hey, great video, packed full of useful tips, I did the same technique on pomegranate tree, and it took off like crazy
Did you use different specie variety? How did the tree do for you?
Možda najbolji način kalemljenja pod koru.,,👍
Good clear zooming guide , Thank you very much
the "grafting" knife is a sheep hoof blade. Just for those who want to know. Peace and love.
A sheep hoof bladé? Oh no,not a sheep hoof blade, say it isn't so.
thanks for an easy explanation .It made grafting easy for me
Plumpers puddy is a great substitute for weatherproofing
I love grafting 👋
Excellent - thank you, Dudley.
If you haven't found a replacement for your wood glue that you love, the clay/putty used on bonsai trees might work well

Thanks for the tutorial! My new Rokakaka is about to be lit!
Nice job Dudley! what's the tree your grafting from/to ?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
You can also trim the bark from the sides of the scion for a better chance of the cambium connecting
i dont know what you did but i like you thing you do with that tree! 😂😂😝

Love ur videos man

thank you very much Dudley. is there any video after 3-6months?
I like this guy☺. His explanation is simple, direct and easy to follow 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙂.
Cool. Thank you for the video.
Two parallel cuts is a cleaner tighter fit for the bark flap to the scion, to minimize or have no gaping.
which one is best season for this type of grafting
i've been trying to propigate cuttings from my peach tree for a long time now with no success. maybe grafting is a better choice! Thank you for posting this.
Gonna try this on my bonsai saplin hopefully making it fluffier
excellent video, i didnt know it was that easy, might graft some pieces of this apple tree
Does the root stock and the scions have to be the same type of tree, or can they be different?
Curious myself about this
@@thehuntersight7548 i have since learned that they need to be in the same family at least. last year i grafted my first trees. i had two survive and the rootstocks were native persimmon but i grafted japanese persimmon onto them. one had a flower that it aborted but they ended up growing 5 ft in one season.
We could still buy the Elmer's wood glue.I've seen it in hardware stores and craft stores.you could see it on there web site.
+Ashley L The original was called Wood Glue Gel. The normal wood glues seem too runny.
Great video! 👍Got right to the point.
im sorry im not questioning how u do things or saying your wrong, I just really want to understand the whys of everything. great video by the way thank you.
Just a note: with persimmons try bark/rind grafting once fully leafed. Works really well and easier than cleft grafting.
i'm guessing you do this in summer??
Late spring/early summer. Here in Sc around May/June
Oh, i'm also in SC. Which part do you live in?
That a good video. Funny too.
Very good..I am going to try it...
Thanks you help me a lot.

Dose it matter the species of the root stock? Dose it have to match the species being graphed?
What tree do you use for your root stock? Does it have to be the same as the scion or will just any tree work?
I think you can use any kind of tree because I’ve seen plums oranges and peaches all on one tree
Wow amazing, love the way u do it. I will try it thanks . Have you done a follow up video on your results ???
Great video.
Enjoyed your work very much. What are the names of the root stock and your two grafts? Are the two grafts from the same tree? Thanks
Thanks for your work. What kind of tree did you graft to? Thanks
thank. very informatif....best
8:16 Ok let's go to the next tree...
A very nice video
Do you cut both ends of the scion? If so do you also need to seal/cover the end of the scion that's not being grafted?
This thing? What tree are you using to graft Too. Very important detail left out.
thank you , great video
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Very interesting. Can you graft any tree onto any other?
I suppose those who clicked "thumbs down" are those who know the Jewish tradition of prohibiting the grafting of two different types of trees.

so where did that tree come into the picture? just find any tree that looks like it could use some company, and a beheading? I'm new to this.
