Actually another huge difference I didn’t realize and maybe you didn’t either was that Kaiser So Cal steps are based on years of service at start not years of experience. So I’ve been a nurse 21 years but I started on Unac step 2 wage in So Cal so I make 59/hr but with the way you say the wage grid is in Sac. I would get 5 years of service credited for my last 10 years of work and make 83/hr that is huge. I’m getting serious about moving there now.
That’s a huge plus you pointed out that I did not know about and I have 21 years experience and just got into Kaiser in So Cal so going to Sac is a 24/ hr pay difference on day shift. Whoop 🙌whoop.

So detailed, maybe you should try working in the ICU! Haha, But thank you for creating such a well organized video! I'm thinking about buying property and moving to Cali once I gain 2 years of experience. Would you recommend?
Thanks for the comment! When it comes to your question: it really depends where you're looking to move to. At the moment, real estate prices are still at their all-time highs, and trying to buy in the cities closer to the coast line is almost impossible on a nurse's wage. That's why Sacramento was the city most Californians to moved since the pandemic started-it's one of the most affordable, while still being close to the bay area. But prices here have increased dramatically as well because of the mass influx. However, you can still find a house here for under $400k, unlike the bay area. Also, every nurse that we know wishes they would have moved to Sacramento sooner because it really is a hidden gem for nurses that want to get paid bay area wages while having access to housing that is much more affordable than the bay area. So, at the end of the day, you're the one that's going to have to weigh the pros and cons of moving here in two years. I'll continue to make videos and keep everyone on the loop about life here in California. But if there's any questions you may have along the way, feel free to let me know. Best of luck to you!
Does overtime and double time that you previously said on your videos such as working over 8rs or working 6-7 days in a row applies to both SoCal and NorCal Kaiser?
You're right, but I ended up leaving it out of the video because I work with a lot of Nurses that moved from Fresno to Sacramento. They have mentioned to me that the primary reason why they moved is because they really hated it there and found it extremely boring.
Thank you for making this video, as a student nurse its hard for me to choose where to apply for a job. I really want to live in Socal, im tired of the fires here in nor cal
@@ky7037 True. But you know, software engineers can be real assholes. It attracts dark triad personalities due to the promise of money, and the emotionless technical emphasis. Hey question, does Kaizer factor in the RN wage any LVN experience for those who have been LVN's for about 10 yrs and worked in skilled facilties plus gained relevant nursing float pool in acute care at a hospital as an LVN??? This is the situation for someone I know who after 10 yrs of being an LVN is an RN.
I mentioned it in another comment. And the answer is simple: the nurses in Northern California are part of the California Nurses Association union and those nurses don't mess around. They to on strike if they don't get what they want. And the union consists of over 30,000 nurses. So, that many nurses going on strike is very detrimental to Kaiser's image and operations.
Yes but it's broken down too specifically and by the number of hours you work... For example, a nurse working 7a to 7p gets paid evening shift diff the entire shift, but a nurse work working 7a to 3p only gets base pay.
@@NursesToRiches Thanks so much for replying! So does a night shift nurse working 7p to 7a get both evening and night differentials? but for varying hours?
You can apply directly but your seniority at the Kaiser North facilities will start from scratch. However, you will still get the experience differential and sick/vacation leave will accrue based on your years of experience in the Kaiser system as a whole.
Hello, thank you so much for making this video! I currently work at Kaiser NorCal and finding it difficult to find what my pay would be for SoCal. It will be 12 years this year with Kaiser. Based on your grid is it correct the my hourly rate would be about $74 if I transferred to SoCal? I have heard that if I decided to transfer out of CNA to UNAC or SCNC I would be starting at Step 1? SO confusing.. I would love to transfer to Roseville or Folsom but not finding any luck. Appreciate any advice or tips you can provide.
As another commenter said, if you go to southern California, it sounds like you will start out on Step 1. But if you go to northern California you would start out as a step 5.
First day of work as a nurse counts as year 0. One year employed as a nurse counts as 1 year of experience. You get credited one year of service at Kaiser for every two years of experience. And you get credited a max of 5 years of service, which is 10 years of experience outside of Kaiser.
This can’t be right. I have a friend that works in so cal Kaiser and she makes 64 an hour. In fact most of the nurses I’ve spoken to say the same rate with 3 years experience.
Hello , great video and wonderful info! I was wondering do you have information related to alternate compensation program ? And does that program offer differential pay or is that like per diem , since benefits aren't elected ? Like a PT position but no benefits . Thanks @nursetoriches
Just curious because I just got a job with Kaiser starting at benefited night shift step 2 pay because I have 4 years outside hospital experience. The following year when I’ve worked with Kaiser for one year total will I move to the next pay tier which is 67.09 and also get the percent pay raise the union just negotiated for the nurses on top of that ? Sorry if that’s confusing just trying to figure out how the raises work. 😅
Hi! Yes, you usually get a step raise and an anniversary raise. However, the union is still in negotiations with Kaiser. So, our contract expired this month and there will be no anniversary raises (only step raises) until we can get a new contract secured.
You would come in as a step 5 if Kaiser accepted your experience because the max they give you credit for is 10 years and every two years of experience is treated as 1 year. So, in my charts, if I mention the years of experience, they would be the same as the steps. If you see 5 years of experience in my chart, that is what your rate would be.
Would you happen to know the starting rate for an icu rn with 10 years of exp for socal? I'm sure their is a difference based on the UNAC contract and CANA contract. Also, how do step increases work within kaiser? Thanks for the help!
My wife works here under CNA here in the bay making $90 an hour but for the last 5 years we've owned a home in Menifee which is part of Riverside County. While our house is huge, it's hard to find out what kind of salary she'll get under UNAC union considering she's staff nurse 3..all i know is she's definitely going to lose her 15 years seniority and taking paycut. how much is the question.
That seems to be the average for Southern California. Your rate would be more like $70 to $88 per hour in Northern California, depending on the hospital.
@@NursesToRiches you guys deserve it. Every time I step foot in Kaiser I tell myself I couldn’t do what you guys do. Plus I don’t like needles or blood or wearing a face mask all day.
Haha, he commented on one of my videos 2 days ago. He is killing it with a crazy amount of hours he's putting in in several hospitals he works in in the bay area.
@@NursesToRiches thanks for replying. I just got hired at Kaiser in Southern CA and wasn’t provided with a pay scale. I have at least 3 years experience but was only offered the 2 year rate based on your chart and wanted to confirm with them and use the chart as a comparison.
@@thasmoth644 the years of experience quoted in the chart is for nurses start at Kaiser with 0 years of experience. When transferring to Kaiser from another hospital, you get credited 1 year of service for every 2 years of experience. So, you would start at a step 1 until you get 4 years of experience, then you would go up to a step 2.
@@thasmoth644 also, to acess your contract, you just have to log into the KP My HR website and type "contracts" in the search bar. It'll then take you to the search results and you can select the labor union contracts link.
Home Healthcare nurses actually make more per hour but their schedules are very different than nurses that work in the hospital setting (where the hospital is open 24/7/365). However, home health nurses in the Kaiser system can very easily earn over 200k/yr.
Are you asking about Northern or Southern California? If you're asking about Northern California, then yes, because they are part of the California Nurses Association. If you're asking about Southern California, then no, their rates vary by specialty.

I have 3 years diploma in nursing which is equivalent to American ADN ,please I would like to know if kaiser hospital in Northern California can employ me and what is my salary range .l have about 30 years of bedside nursing experience. Your reply will be appreciated to me . Thanks
Hi, thanks for the comment! Experience from out of the country is going to be considered on a case-by-case basis. Usually, experience from countries like Canada, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand is looked at in almost the same way as experience from within the US. However, experience obtained in other countries is going to have to be evaluated differently. Although, I should mention that I work with many nurses from Nigeria, Kenya, and Senegal. So, it definitely is possible to get hired within the Kaiser system, as an RN that was trained and has worked in any country in Africa. With regards to salary, I cannot tell you for sure but you would likely start as a step 0 or 1 when coming into the Kaiser System.
Lol, well, I'm glad you watched the video! Southern California is a cool place to to live in, but I like our high salaries and low cost of living here in Sacramento.

Thanks for the video
You're welcome! Thanks for watching 🙂
Does overtime and double time that you previously said on your videos such as working over 8rs or working 6-7 days in a row applies to both SoCal and NorCal Kaiser?
Should have added fresno as its cheaper then Sacramento but still part of Nor Cal great video!
You're right, but I ended up leaving it out of the video because I work with a lot of Nurses that moved from Fresno to Sacramento. They have mentioned to me that the primary reason why they moved is because they really hated it there and found it extremely boring.
Are they getting the Kaiser Nor Cal pay in Fresno?
I never see job openings in Fresno though and I’m internal.
@@Blurrystarscattered the pay in Fresno is the same as it is in Sacramento and San Francisco.
Do u have a video of all the highest paying So Cal hospitals
Jason can you talk about LVN pay as well to help us out🦋. THX
San Diego hands down
Thank you for making this video, as a student nurse its hard for me to choose where to apply for a job. I really want to live in Socal, im tired of the fires here in nor cal
You're so welcome. I totally get it. The smoke from the fires are also a pain in the ass.
Nurses get paid the same amount as software engineers in northern california.
Nurses have to physically be on their feet the whole shift and report in person where as a software engineer can work from home.
@@ky7037 True. But you know, software engineers can be real assholes. It attracts dark triad personalities due to the promise of money, and the emotionless technical emphasis. Medical professions are far more noble, and the people (coworkers) far nicer and better people. The same holds for all of medicine except for surgeons. Surgeons are dark triad too, for whatever reason. My theory has always been that it's something to do with cutting people open for a living, but I don't really know.
Hi
Would it be worth working at Kaiser outside of California ? I live in Georgia and don’t know if the earning potential is as good here. Thanks !
I work with nurses who tried this, gave up, and just moved to Sacramento because commuting back and forth was too exhausting after a while.
@@NursesToRiches do you know if Kaiser has overtime pay after 8hrs here in ga like in Cali
They do not
thank you for the info, this is very helpful.@@NursesToRiches
Can you explain why northern california have higher salary? is it because the cost of living in north cal is also higher?
I mentioned it in another comment. And the answer is simple: the nurses in Northern California are part of the California Nurses Association union and those nurses don't mess around. They to on strike if they don't get what they want. And the union consists of over 30,000 nurses. So, that many nurses going on strike is very detrimental to Kaiser's image and operations.
@@NursesToRiches thank u been watching all ur videos but sometimes i got a short memory 😂
Hello :) Are there specific hour ranges for the "evening" differential vs. the "night" differential? Thank you
Yes but it's broken down too specifically and by the number of hours you work...
Can you transfer from Kaiser Southern California to Kaiser Northern California directly or you have to quit your current job and apply? Thank you.
You can apply directly but your seniority at the Kaiser North facilities will start from scratch. However, you will still get the experience differential and sick/vacation leave will accrue based on your years of experience in the Kaiser system as a whole.
Thank you for your response.
But if you go to northern California you would start out as a step 5.
where do we get current rates with the new increases?
I try to make a new video every year with the most recent rates, but I also update our spreadsheet on a more frequent basis.
NorCal Kaiser starting soon. Is it Nursing experience in total? Or experience of the same unit you applied for?
They consider overall nursing experience, not just experience in the unit you applied for.
@@NursesToRiches Do you know if you could haggle with the offer at all?
@@karemdelacruz48 you cannot haggle salary in a union-represented hospital.
@@NursesToRiches thank you so much for your help. Keep making videos please.
How is years of experience decided? Is it if you started working by X day of the year it count as one or what?
First day of work as a nurse counts as year 0. One year employed as a nurse counts as 1 year of experience. You get credited one year of service at Kaiser for every two years of experience. And you get credited a max of 5 years of service, which is 10 years of experience outside of Kaiser.
This can’t be right. I have a friend that works in so cal Kaiser and she makes 64 an hour. In fact most of the nurses I’ve spoken to say the same rate with 3 years experience.
Thank you!!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Aww, thank you for watching and commenting!
Hello , great video and wonderful info! I was wondering do you have information related to alternate compensation program ? And does that program offer differential pay or is that like per diem , since benefits aren't elected ? Like a PT position but no benefits . Thanks @nursetoriches
Is Kaiser Fresno socal or northccal?
Kaiser considers it to be in Northern California.
Does the experience mean the years in general (I worked many departments), or the years in the specific department you are applying to?
Yes, years in general.
@@NursesToRiches Thank you for info
The two regions should unify under CNA.
I agree!
Could I ask, would overseas experience usually counted for the total year of experience? As I worked in Australia for 15years
You would come in as a step 5 if Kaiser accepted your experience because the max they give you credit for is 10 years and every two years of experience is treated as 1 year. So, in my charts, if I mention the years of experience, they would be the same as the steps. If you see 5 years of experience in my chart, that is what your rate would be.
Hi. I just interviewed for an outpatient surgery center at Kaiser Oakland. Do they get the same rate as inpatient nurses?
Yes they do 😀
Yes they make the same for inpatient and outpatient. Pretty good deal
She's going to lose her seniority and she's going to make at least $20 less per hour.
I was offered between 45-50£ /hour base rate in South California Bakersfield. is that alright for an ITU nurse who had 10 years experience? Pls advise
That seems to be the average for Southern California. Your rate would be more like $70 to $88 per hour in Northern California, depending on the hospital.
Would you please 🙏 make one for LPN?! 😢
Came here cause college RN students kept hyping up Kaiser and $90/hr.
It's true. I make $101/hr now. New grads start at $70+ base.
@@NursesToRiches you guys deserve it. Every time I step foot in Kaiser I tell myself I couldn’t do what you guys do. Plus I don’t like needles or blood or wearing a face mask all day.
San Diego or Los Angles
Both have comparable cost of living 👍.
Can we have beginning starting kaiser hourly wage for rn?
It's in here ua-cam.com/video/KxGhfboQAWE/v-deo.html or you can get the California hospital salaries from our website.
Do you know ltgr let’s get it he is a rn that works in San Francisco general ranking in ot. I’m wondering how he afford a Lamborghini?
Haha, he commented on one of my videos 2 days ago. He is killing it with a crazy amount of hours he's putting in in several hospitals he works in in the bay area.
I follow ltgr too!
Where can I get a copy of Kaiser pay charts?
It's only available to Kaiser employees.
Can you mkethe same in home care??
Home Healthcare nurses actually make more per hour but their schedules are very different than nurses that work in the hospital setting (where the hospital is open 24/7/365). However, home health nurses in the Kaiser system can very easily earn over 200k/yr.

Your reply will be appreciated to me .

Kaiser LAMC is represented by CNA, and we are a strong union
How long have you worked there?
Does Kaiser pay more if you have a BSN?
No, they don't. Our ADN nurses make just as much as our BSN nurses.
Do you know if critical care units get paid more than other units? Thanks
@@thasmoth644 in Southern California yes, there are slightly higher rates ($5+/hr) for specialty positions.
I am not a nurse, I Just play one in the comments. Just of the title, I would hate to live down south

You need to teach biology.
Question.. the rate for per diem.. is it by years of experience outside kaiser or only years hired in kaiser?
You get 1 year of credit for every two years of experience outside of Kaiser, for up to a total of 10 years of outside experience. But if you start out with Kaiser then what you see in the chart applies for every year of Kaiser experience.
