California is where the money is at and nurse-patient ratio is also awesome. I worked for 20 years straight as LVN & then RN , saved and invested and then retired at 38 debt-free with healthy retirement accounts and 3 monthly income streams. Life is good. All it takes is hard work, and saving/investing. Do not buy things you do not really need.
I totally agree . Jason , may blessings overflow into your life. You have no idea how transparency which is so hard in nursing gives all of us a chance to enjoy our passion. So happy to see these videos .
@@sharonthompson7293 You guys are all so inspiring to me. These videos take me all week (sometimes more) to put together but it's always worth it when I see comments like these.
Thank you Jason. This is easy guys, for the same amount of work, I get over 100% advantage in after tax income (620k vs 270k) and an 11% disadvantage in total estimated tax burden (44% vs 33%) for living and working in CA instead of TX. These videos don't only teach about nursing, they teach how to make informed financial and life decisions as well. Thank you again for putting this together.
Thanks for the video idea and always commenting on my videos 👍. You are so right about having the information to make these informed financial decisions-even if you're not working 365 days of the year. The nurse who's paycheck I revealed works an average of 48 hours per week (she rarely works runs over 30 days long) and already reached 199k for the year. She's also a single mother with children who are older and live in her household. She has a networth of over $600k. She also has an $800k home that's worth over $1 million dollars. And, she bought a Tesla Model X last year and paid for it in cash!
@@NursesToRiches I love that nurses in California are able to live the life we deserve for the care and attention to detail required in our profession. Thank you for the info!
@Red Capote Yeah it's night and day difference for us moving from NYC. There are so many more benefits to nursing here in California that I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of. And thanks for recognizing the disclaimer, I have gotten a few friends (very few) who tell me that discussing salaries makes it look like that's the only thing I care about, which is 100% NOT the case... Why do people find it so wrong to talk about finances and salaries?..
Hubby is currently an LVN and we live in the Bay Area. After he finishes his BSN next year, we are planning on moving to Sac. We had been thinking if moving to San Antonio, but after watching your videos, we nixed that idea. Thanks!
@thetruthsayer thanks for the comment! Just like, you, I too never understood why it's so taboo to talk openly about our salaries. But you know what? I'm gonna keep doing! 😂
New sub. Born and raised in Sac. Starting my BSN program in May. Bro, you’re heaven sent. Now, I gotta go back and watch all your stuff. Wish you lots of peace and love in life. Thanks again.
When I come to the USA I will thank you in person and reach out for more advise and I will definitely be working in CA!!! Thank you for the transparency!!
Amazing content!💯 It feels almost illegal to be watching this on youtube for free! Thanks Jason!🤛🏼 Edit: Now thinking about moving to Cali from Dublin, Ireland.😅
Thank you for your content! I am starting on my two year degree journey (prereqs) and look forward to moving to Sacramento/Roseville in the near future
Thnx sooo much for a fantastic explanation! I found your channel by accident when I tried to find some useful informations about living and earning as a nurse in California. This video of yours, as many other, have given to me some information that I could not believe in nor in my dreams. Thank you so much for your kindness and your willingness to spread your knowledge public. Cheers!
Thanks so much for this comment, it means a lot! I'm going to be posting a video in the next couple of days (hopefully by Sunday) revealing and breaking down the salaries of at least 18 of the highest paying hospitals in California (including Stanford, UC San Francisco, El Camino Hospital, and many others) in case you and others may be interested in applying there.
@@NursesToRiches Thank you a lot, my friend! Every second you spend in front of your camera can be a-life-changing second for many people who aren't scared to do something noticeable in their lifes. I understand your work not as a story about the earnings and the money, but as a friendly advice to seek behind the garden where our time is much more valuable than we think. And the time is the only winner. I live in Europe, but I have been considering to move to the US to try somethin' else (lifestyle, climate, opportunities...). By now I'm not done with the whole process of getting the RN license in California. Hope that it will happen soon. Thnx again and keep it extraordinary as usual!
Great info and Subbed! I have a question. Is there Kaiser hospital in LA? Is there any kind of hospital like this in Arizona? I currently live in AZ and getting my ADN next year! Eventually I want to move to LA or different part of Cali!
Unfortunately, there are no Kaiser hospitals in Arizona. But there are Kaiser hospitals in California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia, and Colorado. However, the highest-paying Kaiser hospitals belong to Northern California's CNA (California Nurses Association). LA has a Kaiser hospital that belongs to CNA but they don't pay as high as the ones in Northern California.
Excellent and through video! It seems like many Kaiser’s have a lot of hours and shifts up for grabs so people work a lot of overtime. My question is: Is this a seasonal thing due to COVID, chronic understaffing? How is so much overtime available for people? In your experience are there always hours available if one wants to work more?
It's cyclical, but for the most part, there is always overtime available. The only time we didn't have OT available was when the restrictions were first put in place last year and everyone was scared to come to the hospital. I've been working there 3 years and there has been plenty of overtime available every day up until that month. Also, the reason for so much overtime is because our ED, like most EDs in the country have quick turnover rates, and in California, hospitals are not allowed to break ratio laws.
@ nurses to riches I work for kaiser Santa Clara and I always try to get the 6th day and I never get it. They will not schedule me for third weekend either.
I wish I can become a RN this will help so much for our bills. Yet I don't have that kind of mentally I forget a lot of things 😩. Everyone I know around me had becomes RNurses.
You can do it! You have to make it your priority. I went to nursing school with nurses in their 50s who had not been in school in over 30 years and, even though they struggled, they all managed to attain their nursing licenses.
wow, thank you for referring me to this video. You should def. do one comparing it to NY. Have you considered going back to school for a finance degree? That's the route I want to take for my master's as I love the math behind nursing and life lol. GREAT VIDEO!
Thanks for the comment 😁. I absolutely love math but more than that I love personal finance and seeing money grow with very little effort. I am doing things on the side with the hopes that Monica and I will be able to retire in less than 10 years and live on a passive income that would replace our current one. So, school, although I did enjoy the mathematics portions of it, is not really an option I'm considering at the moment.
Nurses who arent in it for the money make the best patient advocates, nurses who are only in it for the money make the best NURSE'S advocate. We need both. those who shame people who are doing it for the money have imposter syndrome or low self esteem.
Dang! These are priceless info..thanks for the video. I should have watched this 2 months ago when I was contemplating of where to move! 😂 Well, now I got Kaiser in mind..to consider next year 👌
Hey you should make a video on the lowest paying hospitals in California, the cost of living in those cities, and still show how much better it is to live in California vs other competing states/cities
New subscriber over here and I love you and your wife go getters attitude. I use to live in Elk Grove and now live in Philly where I'm going to nursing school. Do you have advices for new grad nurse that would like to do travel nursing in the future?
First, I recommend you get at least 6 months to 1 year if experience in a hospital setting. But, in the mean time go to Facebook and search for The Gypsy Nurse Network and follow them. There is a ton of valuable information in there. Also, go to their website and look for this blog post: "19 Tips for Traveling Nurses", it will be you a lot of time and money. And, lastly, being a travel nurse is a great way to get your foot in the door of a hospital you want to work for the rest of your life in. For example, Kaiser is known for hiring travelers after working two contracts in their organization.
Had to rewatch this one after your latest to get the full understanding! This is like a pot of gold 😂 I'm wondering though, have you encountered any nurses with just their ADN at Kaiser Permanente? I'll be done with my BSN by July or so, but I want to apply ASAP, so I'm just wondering if I even stand a chance landings job there before I have my BSN? I have about 2.5 years of med-surg experience if that helps. Thanks!
Girlllll, apply now! I work with so many ADN nurses (although many of them are now in school getting their BSN) and there is no difference in pay for having the higher degree. The only benefit of getting your BSN is that many hospitals across the country are more requiring their nurses to be BSN-educated, and Kaiser will be one of those hospitals soon enough.
@@NursesToRiches wow! Here I am thinking that Kaiser was already requiring it too! Haha let me get my applications in TODAY! You're truly the best, thanks so much! 🥰🙏🏾
@@ricardorodriguesrr18 That is true, ish 45-52%. But keep in mind that those money pays for free healthcare, all types of education, 90% of salary in three years if u lose job, 6 weeks paid vacation, 26-52 weeks paid paternity leave, ish 1,100$ monthly when you study, plus so much more.
Thank you so much for your videos! Subscribed because of all your hard work! What is the specialty of your coworker who has done the 365-day run? Isn’t this tiring for their body??? I only work 12-hr shifts, so I’m pretty exhausted even after the first day.
Hi Jason!! Your videos are amazing and I REALLY appreciate your content. I was wondering if overtime opportunities are still the same now as when you made this video over a year ago? Also, do you have the ability to float to other hospitals that have staffing shortages to contribute to run pay?
Hi Jasmine, the overtime is cyclical and right there hasn't been too much overtime in the last month or so but 70% to 80% of the year there is so much overtime you could literally work every single day if you wanted. There is opportunity to pick up shifts in sister hospitals but it's extremely rare. However, if you are an ICU, Tele, or medsurg nurse, you can always pick up shifts in other medsurg or tele units.
Thank you for these videos bro!! Super helpful as a nursing student trying to visualize what my income can look like if I push for it, and also how I can utilize the money via investments, etc. Thank you!
I don't know why people fear taxes, its the cost of making money....if your job increases you pay to 200K a year, are you gonna decline because of taxes??
Thank you for this video :) I am a new nurse with only 6 months experience in Med Surg in NY but I would like to relocate to California when I hit my 1 year mark. May I ask, would it still be difficult to find a job in California with Kaiser if I only have 1 year of experience? I was also considering Travel Nursing in California as well but I feel like maybe I need more nursing experience first so I was going to try to find a staff nursing job in California to get additional experience. I don't want to stay in NY much longer lol.
It cost us about $6k just to get our furniture and two cars out here. Then we had to put down a first month's deposit, first month's rent, and a security deposit for the apartment we were renting at the time. We also had to buy more furniture because we moved into a larger apartment than we had been living in NYC. In total we spent somewhere between 15k and 22k 😐
@@zhengpan1997 but honestly it does have to be that expensive. You could do it all more frugally if you drive all your stuff out here. I think you could do it all for under 10k for sure.
@@NursesToRiches please tell me will hospitals in USA hire nurses who finished school outside of country. I finished my school in Serbia and have been working in cardiology unit for a year now, I'm willing to relocate to USA, do you think it's possible? Thank you😁
No you do not. You only get weekend differential if you are hired into a weekender position. Or, if you pick up overtime on your weekend off when staffing offers third weekend pay (which would mean you get paid double time for all weekend days worked on your third weekend of work).
Wow, you're the bomb! I give it up to you because you're gonna make an awesome MD since you know what it's like to go through school and work as an RN. But with regards to your question: Absolutely! You can do home health nursing while in medical school because it gives you more flexibility. Also, if you can manage to get 6 months of experience as a new grad at a hospital you can then apply to be per diem. Every hospital is different but a hospital like Kaiser only requires four 8-hour shifts per month! Or, if you want to just take it easy you can apply for part-time work at a clinic or doctor's office.
Same with nurses I work with. They get a 10% differential for accepting a position that requires them to work every weekend. And, for nurses that don't work every weekend, but instead work every other weekend, if staffing is short and they ask us to come in on our weekend off, we get paid 2x or rate for the next weekend we're scheduled to work (both Saturday and Sunday).
I stumbled upon a goldmine! Financial knowledge in this vid is fantastic. I assume the runpay applies to all hospitals that offer it? I'm in the LA area.
hello, 40 year old guy here going back to school to become RN and hoping to move to CA soon after I graduate. I wanted to ask about the RUN Pay .. would this only benefits nurses that work for Kaiser? or is it that RNs with in CA an another Hospital can make this earning potential an any other Major or large hospital system in CA?
Hi Brooke, there's no dress code at any Kaiser hospital in Northern California. You can even wear casual clothing if you want. You just can't go to work with a skimpy outfit or open-toe shoes lol.
Do you have a link for the grid ? I’m new to Kaiser and would love to pick up ! A lot of questions still for me, So to continue the run I don’t have to do a full 8 hour I can just pick up four hours on my days off ? Before getting into kaiser I was watching your video and you are such a motivator thank you for these videos
Unfortunately I do not. It is just a spreadsheet I made that I have to manually enter numbers into. But I can look into turning it into something you can use to calculate your own OT and run pay.
Since the run pay is only a thing at Kaiser facilities can you do a video about the earnings potential of a nurse working elsewhere in California? Also this might be a dumb question but how can Kaiser afford to pay nurses this much?
I will consider that video topic. Also, Kaiser can afford to pay nurses this much because not only is it an employer but it is also an insurer and it makes much of its money from the insurance premiums they charges their customers. They are always pulling in over $3 billion in profit per year.
Hello Jason how are you? Thank you so much for this informative video. My only question is that will Kaiser allow a NEW GRAD to work there and be eligible for the run pay starting out? Wouldn’t they want you to maybe have like 5 years of experience before being eligible for the run pay? Or are you allowed run pay once you start working at Kaiser? It would mean a lot if you replied to this comment. I know it’s a little late, but thank you so much for your videos.😁 you rock🐐
Kaiser has been cutting down on overtime and even scheduling the per diem employees for the last 4-5 months now. However, this happens every year but this is the longest dry spell since I've been there. On any other occasion, new grads could get as much overtime as seasoned nurses but run pay to this extent is more likely to happen in the ER than any other unit.
Thanks for the hard working! Those videos help a lot! In Australia, we only reward nurses up to year 10, and experience nurses are not preferred because hospital will pay the same role for more money. But we have salary package of 9000 each hospital for saving the tax. Btw, Is it difficult to find a per-diem job in Bay Area for an experience nurse? Also, we have 1:4ratio in Vic, what about in Kaiser? And how’s the usual shift hours? We have almost all of the 8hrs shift 07:00-15:3013:00-21:30 and 21:00-07:00, what about California, I could see there’re lots of choices in flexible hours but, what are the common shift hours like? Thanks 😊
If you transfer from Australia to a Kaiser hospital, once they review your experience, if it is approved, you will receive up to 10 years of credit for your experience. But, for every 2 years of experience, Kaiser will treat it as one year of service. So with 10 years of experience you would come in as a nurse in step 5 of the wage schedule. California has the largest shortage of nurses compared to every other state in the country, so an experienced nurse will have a much easier time finding work here than a new grad. We also have ratio laws in California (it's the only state in the country with laws regarding safe staffing). ICU is max 1:2. ED varies, if you have a critical patient it's 1:1 until the patient is stable, then it becomes 1:2. In the ED, also, if you have Tele and medsurg patients, then it's 1:4, and if you have a stepdown patient (less critical than an ICU patient), your ratio is 1:3. If you are a telemetry floor nurse, your ratios are 1:4. When it comes to shifts, it varies by department. In our ED we have 0645-1515 0945-1815 1045-2315 1445-2315 1445-0315 1745-0215 1845-2315 1845-0715 2245-0715 and 2245-1115.
@@NursesToRiches Thanks for your detail replies for every questions, they helped a lot. My BF currently work in Bay Area in tech company and I need to move to US from Australia. Australia is good so far in terms of lifestyle etc.. I am getting a bit concerned when leaving Australia, I couldn’t come here now due to the boarder lock down. These videos do help a lot ! Appreciated!
You're right. This video was filmed before housing prices truly exploded. The most recent median home price in Houston is $355k and $395k in Sacramento.
I have a question..How to work for 4 hours in the ICU in Kaiser, is it allowed? Saw in your table on the 4 hour work per day. Wouldn’t the nurse need to have their own assignment? Or just float?
I have been a nurse in nj for about 5 years and when I see we make 75,000 per year online (nurses make double of that) it makes me frustrating. We need a raise!!! we need to make somewhere close to MDs!
Sorry for the late reply. I think my employer actually doesn't mind me displaying all of this info because I'm like a walking advertisement for them. I have had an HR director reach out to me to tell me they enjoyed my videos an asked if I was interested in a managerial position.
Kaiser has a pension and a matching 401k (they provide a 1.25% match up to 100% of your salary). Monica works on a Tele floor and they offer even more overtime on her unit that they do mine. Also, even if there weren't any overtime available, our contract states that they cannot cancel our shifts. Other hospitals cancel nurses' shifts often but it does not happen at Kaiser.
Yeah, we have to clock in and out for lunch. We have float nurses or break relief nurses that send us on our breaks. And lately there's so much overtime available that if you were to call the staffing office and ask them if you could come in STAT they'd likely say yes. Many nurses have runs pre-booked for the entire month.
We thought about the fact that now we would a place for family to come and stay in in California. And our family loves it. They come visit us often and we also go back to NY at least once a year. My brother and sister-in-law also moved to Oakland, so they’re only about an hour and 10 minutes away. And we also have a family WhatsApp group we use to communicate with each other on a daily basis.
Your videos are awesome!!! Any info on Nurse Practitioners by anychance? My sister is a Neonatal nurse practitionner in Maryland and I am trying to convince her to move to California 😘
Depends on the person. I've done an 18 day run and a 16 day run before and I don't feel exhausted at the end of a run but I feel like I've missed out on life. I work with nurses that regularly work 30+ day runs.
Hello I just got on with kaiser Can you please go over their main frame payroll program !!! It’s confusing and it’s east for you to not get paid especially with OT I heard if your not on it you can miss money thanks
A lot of the payment, scheduling, and clicking in/out systems are so antiquated at Kaiser. And they do this on purpose. Kaiser gets sued several times per year for screwing employees out if their pay. Unfortunately, I can't make a video on how to use Mainframe because 1. Not many people would watch that video, and 2. I could get fired for making a video about a system that is property of the Kaiser Permanente Hospital System.
@@NursesToRiches oh!! I totally understand Not sure if you could give any advice . I know the nurse said to just pay close attention if you do overtime Thanks for your videos it’s very helpful ! Oh I love you interviews with nurses as well
It is still possible but highly unlikely for now because Kaiser is cracking down on OT after they increased our wages by such a large percentage. However, OT has always been cyclical when they bolus us with travel nurses.
Nurses To Riches thank you so much! As a recent bio grad, I’ve been considering going to nursing school and I’ve watched almost all your videos twice haha. By far the most detailed and the charts and figures made are incredible.
I have CRNA friends at Kaiser and they earn $110/hr+ but they do not get as much overtime as the staff nurses do. So, although they earn a base rate that is hire than most staff RNs, their yearly income potential is not as much as it is for the staff RNs.
Do you mean the 5 or 10 highest-paying or largest in population? If you mean highest-paying then I have a video like that already. You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/8m8SdQIbLtY/v-deo.html
There are so many more males in the nursing profession than there has ever been and males continue to move into the profession. There are so many areas of nursing that can work for any sex, male or female. So, yes, nursing is definitely a good career for males.
@@nursebalynda8724 Nice, you've got this! if you get into Kaiser you'll be making a base hourly rate of $70/hr within your first year as a nurse and if you work evenings you'll make an extra $7.70/hr. If you work nights it's an extra $12.25/hr. You're gonna be set 🙂.
In California, all employees get paid 1.5x pay for any hours worked over 8 and less than 12 in one day. California employees also get paid 2.0x pay for any amount of hours worked over 12 hours in one day. They also get paid 1.5x for any hours worked over 40 in one week, or 2.0x pay for more than 8 hours worked on the 7th straight day of work. Kaiser takes this law and puts it on steroids. So, only Kaiser nurses receive the benefit of "run pay".
All Northern California Kaiser hospitals pay the same rates but not all of them offer so much overtime. The Kaiser hospitals in the Greater Sacramento area are offering overtime almost every day of the year because it's been so extremely busy this past year and they've been severely understaffed.
This is good in areas that is open 24/7 like ER, ICU, med/surg. But i dont know how this works in procedure areas like Endoscopy and Ambulatory Surgery.
@@NursesToRiches please make a video about how a nurse working in the OR, Endoscopy, Ambulatory Surgery and other procedural areas can make more money in California.
@@d3r3kyasmar I have a few friends that work in Endoscopy and PACU. I'll see if I can question them about their work schedule, the amount of OT they put in, and their earnings per year.
Unstable, yes. But so far 3 nurses I work with have gone over 365 days per year for a couple of years. However, the thing I see more often is what I revealed in the paycheck. That coworker doesn't work every day of the year and she has reached 199k already. She is a 12-hour shift employee and probably works and average of 48 hours per week. This is one of the longest runs she's done (30+days) since working here. The majority of my coworkers do runs for less than 50 days, so they could either invest their money, take a trip somewhere, or pay off their debts. In 50 days they manage to earn an average of $32k.
@@NursesToRiches I can't tell you how great your info and replies are. I am just loving this channel so much. When I move out there, I'm absolutely willing to hire you to help me get my excel sheets down and my benefits in order before accepting a contract.
@UA-cam Deleted my Other Account for Mean Comments Yes... hard to believe, right? But it's true. Don't know how they do it but one of them owns a 7 eleven, so at least she's putting her money into investments.
It's the only state that actually has ratios. I work in an ED and if I have 4 patients, and one of them turns into an ICU patient, I hand off my other 3 to the nurses I work with. If I have a patient that has to be placed in violent restraints, that's becomes a 1:1. If my patients are all tele/medsurg I get no more than 4. If I have a step down patient, I'm maxed at 3 patients. Outside of the ED, medsurg floors are 5:1. Tele is 4:1. Step down is 3:1. ICU 2:1 unless one of your patients is very ill, then it's 1:1.
I do. But you would have to enter your hourly rate manually if you want to get the results based on what your hourly rate would be if you were a Kaiser nurse. I do, however, have a spreadsheet that you might find useful in this video: Highest Paying Hospitals for NURSES in California in 2021 | Up To $297K With No Overtime! 💰💰 ua-cam.com/video/fuiGv06SOB4/v-deo.html
Let’s be honest, no decent house in the whole state of California cost 300,000. What a joke. Now if you told me the mid west I’d believe yoinked. Great video though
I totally get it. I have never worked a run because I value my time with family. I want to be around while our kids grow up and never feel like I regret being present for them.
I respect your hustle 100%, but man, normalizing these type of hours is not ok. Safety should be our priority as nurses and nothing about a year run is safe or anywhere near it. A life lived by doing nothing but working, is not a life lived at all. While your videos aren’t inaccurate, they are misleading in the sense of the hype behind the pay, without the transparency of the reality of those type of hours. 9 out of 10 people wouldn’t be able to work 30 days straight, yet alone 365…nor should they!
I have to agree with your statement. Which is why I only work 3 days a week. Many of these nurses know their limits though. And that one nurse I with with that earned 800k+ lives and breathes nursing. Even when she's not at work she's talking about nursing. I've never met anyone like her. She is 100% sharp every day of the year. And, I can say the same for every other nurse I've seen working a run. But, it does bewilder me when I see management approving of someone working nonstop for a full year. It definitely should not be condoned but I've been an employee at 4 different hospitals now and I have never worked at one where the employer cares more about us and our mental/physical health than they do about making sure they are fully staffed.
Not necessarily. The W-4 is only a rough estimate of how much tax needs to be withheld from your paycheck. For people who earn income in addition to their W-2, who have more than one W-2, who earn bonuses or commissions or who have a spouse that earns income, the estimate can be way off and the person may end up owing more money to the IRS at the end of the year.
Unfortunately, this is only something that has been worked into the Kaiser Permanente CNA union contract. So, only benefited Kaiser staff nurses qualify for run pay.
Yep, taxes are high but at the end of the day, we are still bringing home more money than any nurse in any other city in the US. I've made videos comparing the salaries of the highest-paying cities in the US (according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics) and adjusted those salaries for the cost of living. Sacramento is one of the best, if not the best, city to work in as a nurse.
Hello Jason, I love your videos. Please, can you help me try to get into one of these hospitals? I am a new graduate from Las Vegas, NV. I don't believe Nevada has those overtime laws. So I am planning on moving to California to obtain these benefits. I got hired at an ICU department. Its a residency program. I have no experience but what would you recommend? Please!
Hi Henry, it took me 8 months to get a job in this hospital and that's with 5 years of previous experience. It can take months, if not years to get a job at Kaiser, but I'm posting a video tomorrow on my step-by-step guide to applying for jobs at Kaiser. So, stay tuned!
looks like gavin newsome is kicking that texass. plus the power grid actually works in CA....everythings bigger in texass but everythings better in California.
No, but nurses can apply for RN III, and IV by doing special projects or being a member in a committee (or several committees). I'm an RN III and my base rate is 5% higher because of it. I can apply for RN IV in 2 more years. As an RN IV my base rate will be 8% higher. My videos where I talk about new grad pay and top paying hospitals in the Sacramento area have the wage structure that shows the pay for the different RN levels.
Yup get to level IV, you should have to be a Kaiser nurse for 5 years and must complete special projects. Educational background is irrelevant for moving up the RN levels.

@@NursesToRiches We break ratio in Fresno. Been that way since I can remember.
@michael do you work for Kaiser?

This is amazing!!! I can't believe she can make so much for just 88 hours biweekly!

Hello. Awesome video! Just for clarification, are Kaiser per diem nurses able to take advantage of the run strategy?
Hi there! No, Kaiser per diem nurses do not qualify for run pay, 6th day premium, 7th day premium, or weekend differentials.
@@NursesToRiches thank you! Would you be interested in making a video on how Kaiser per diem nurses can maximize?
Hi Jason,
I'm really inspired by your videos!!!
How long into the run would you be asked to waive your benefits?
Jason, great info. Does this run 🏃♂️ pay only apply to all Kaiser facilities or is it for all California hospitals?

Kinda confused. They have 4hr shift at Kaiser? that would be awesome if you are looking for an OT. Also to say the easy run is REALLLLY GOODD!!
One year of experience is more than enough. Apply now, we're in desperate need of Nurses.
@@NursesToRiches May I ask, did it cost a lot of money initially to make the move from NY to California?
It cost us about $6k just to get our furniture and two cars out here. Then we had to put down a first month's deposit, first month's rent, and a security deposit for the apartment we were renting at the time. We also had to buy more furniture because we moved into a larger apartment than we had been living in NYC. In total we spent somewhere between 15k and 22k 😐
@@zhengpan1997 but honestly it does have to be that expensive. You could do it all more frugally if you drive all your stuff out here. I think you could do it all for under 10k for sure.

Lol, that's exactly how Monica and I felt, while working in NYC, when we saw how much nurses make here.
Jason, do you not get your differential for weekends when doing the run pay? I don't see you included that in the tables?
No you do not. You only get weekend differential if you are hired into a weekender position. Or, if you pick up overtime on your weekend off when staffing offers third weekend pay (which would mean you get paid double time for all weekend days worked on your third weekend of work).
I have a question and I hope you answer
Do you think it’s possible to work as a nurse while in medical school
And yeah I just became a RN 😊😊
Wow, you're the bomb! I give it up to you because you're gonna make an awesome MD since you know what it's like to go through school and work as an RN.
But with regards to your question: Absolutely! You can do home health nursing while in medical school because it gives you more flexibility. Also, if you can manage to get 6 months of experience as a new grad at a hospital you can then apply to be per diem. Every hospital is different but a hospital like Kaiser only requires four 8-hour shifts per month!
Or, if you want to just take it easy you can apply for part-time work at a clinic or doctor's office.
@@NursesToRiches thanks for answering 😊😊
You're welcome ❤️
How is the overtime competition in KP? Is there a lot of vacant shifts for overtime? Or you need to bid for it? Or its easy to pick up extra 4 hours?
They practically beg us every day to do OT. They've even offered us gifts to stay and work a few extra hours.
@@NursesToRiches in Australia we only interested in doing weekends shifts which pays you 1.5times. It’s interesting to know this “run pay” in Cali.
Thank you! Run pay is offered to only the Kaiser hospitals in Northern California. So any Kaiser from San Francisco all the way to Fresno.
hello, 40 year old guy here going back to school to become RN and hoping to move to CA soon after I graduate. I wanted to ask about the RUN Pay .. would this only benefits nurses that work for Kaiser? or is it that RNs with in CA an another Hospital can make this earning potential an any other Major or large hospital system in CA?
Hi! This is only a Kaiser benefit because Kaiser nurses have one of the best, if not the best, contracts in the country.
But you can watch my other videos comparing the highest-paying hospitals in California to see which other ones pay the most.
Thanks for this video!! Quick question… is there a dress code (specific scrub color) for ER nurses at South Sac?
Hi Brooke, there's no dress code at any Kaiser hospital in Northern California. You can even wear casual clothing if you want. You just can't go to work with a skimpy outfit or open-toe shoes lol.
@@NursesToRiches Y’all are awesome!! Thank you!
Amazing!
We have almost all of the 8hrs shift 07:00-15:30 13:00-21:30 and 21:00-07:00, what about California, I could see there’re lots of choices in flexible hours but, what are the common shift hours like?

Does Kaiser have a pension? 401k? It seems like ER is busy, but what about the other units? How often they get cancelled?
Kaiser has a pension and a matching 401k (they provide a 1.25% match up to 100% of your salary). Monica works on a Tele floor and they offer even more overtime on her unit that they do mine. Also, even if there weren't any overtime available, our contract states that they cannot cancel our shifts. Other hospitals cancel nurses' shifts often but it does not happen at Kaiser.
@@NursesToRiches Damn that is nuts.
Does this work if I do 2 - 16s then 1 -12 in the beginning of the week (first three days). So after 40 hours, I’ll have 1.5x every shift?
Interesting, do they make you clock out for lunch? The schedule makes it seems as if you work straight without taking a lunch break?
It sounds like a nurse working at Kaiser can just go in to work whenever they want? Don’t need to follow a schedule?
Yeah, we have to clock in and out for lunch. We have float nurses or break relief nurses that send us on our breaks. And lately there's so much overtime available that if you were to call the staffing office and ask them if you could come in STAT they'd likely say yes. Many nurses have runs pre-booked for the entire month.
How did you and Monica deal with the emotional aspects of moving away from family and friends. How has your oldest daughter adjusted?
We thought about the fact that now we would a place for family to come and stay in in California. And our family loves it. They come visit us often and we also go back to NY at least once a year. My brother and sister-in-law also moved to Oakland, so they’re only about an hour and 10 minutes away. And we also have a family WhatsApp group we use to communicate with each other on a daily basis.

Would you know if all Kaiser locations do this?
All Northern California Kaiser hospitals pay the same rates but not all of them offer so much overtime. The Kaiser hospitals in the Greater Sacramento area are offering overtime almost every day of the year because it's been so extremely busy this past year and they've been severely understaffed.
This is good in areas that is open 24/7 like ER, ICU, med/surg.
But i dont know how this works in procedure areas like Endoscopy and Ambulatory Surgery.
You're right. Those nurses rarely get overtime.
@@NursesToRiches
Is it appropriate to ask during the interview if they offer relocation assistance?
@@d3r3kyasmar absolutely. It never hurts to ask and it won't affect your chances of being offered a position just for asking.
Can a nurse work all those hours because that would be unstable
Damn, you're gasing me up, lmao! 🤣
@UA-cam Deleted my Other Account for Mean Comments Yes... hard to believe, right? But it's true. Don't know how they do it but one of them owns a 7 eleven, so at least she's putting her money into investments.
I'm curious about the nurse/patient ratio in cali? thanks!
@@NursesToRiches I am working in cardiac pcu we have 5 pts and sometimes 6 :( in florida
@@rn9167 yeah that's ridiculous. I remember getting up 17 patients in the ED in NYC.
@@NursesToRiches 😮 damn, that's a lot.
@@rn9167 yes it is. And it's one of the main reasons we left NY.
So if a nurse makes $20k a month? How much is a nurse takes after tax? Is it the same pay at other hospitals or just @ Kaiser?
If you watch toward the end of the video I show an actual paycheck of my coworker so you can see how much she paid in taxes.
Do you have the raw files so we can play with the numbers?
I did this and attempted to end my life. I like my mental health and family more.
I totally get it. I have never worked a run because I value my time with family. I want to be around while our kids grow up and never feel like I regret being present for them.
20k a month still not enough.....nurse deserve more than that....just saying....60k a month should do it....
This is true. But believe it or not I do work with nurses making 50k to 60k/mo.
@@NursesToRiches my friend makes 385k a month...so I believe you....
385k a month??? Dang what does he do for a living?
If she claims 0 she shouldn’t end up owing taxes right ?
Not necessarily. The W-4 is only a rough estimate of how much tax needs to be withheld from your paycheck. For people who earn income in addition to their W-2, who have more than one W-2, who earn bonuses or commissions or who have a spouse that earns income, the estimate can be way off and the person may end up owing more money to the IRS at the end of the year.
That’s stinks . So I guess you never really know until you get the tax guy
@@chrisychris0117 pretty much 😩
Would this possible for a agency RN to do?
Unfortunately, this is only something that has been worked into the Kaiser Permanente CNA union contract. So, only benefited Kaiser staff nurses qualify for run pay.
@@NursesToRiches Thanks for your response
365 days... That's insane!!!!
Do nurses make a good pay at Buffalo
The wages are decent but nothing to brag about.
Those taxes man omfg😭😭😭😭
@@NursesToRiches thank you so much!!!!!
You're welcome 👍
looks like gavin newsome is kicking that texass. plus the power grid actually works in CA....everythings bigger in texass but everythings better in California.
Jason is there a Pay dif for ICU nurses
No, but nurses can apply for RN III, and IV by doing special projects or being a member in a committee (or several committees). I'm an RN III and my base rate is 5% higher because of it. I can apply for RN IV in 2 more years. As an RN IV my base rate will be 8% higher. My videos where I talk about new grad pay and top paying hospitals in the Sacramento area have the wage structure that shows the pay for the different RN levels.
May I ask, could a master degree apply IV level with clinical educating experience without specialty currently?
Yup get to level IV, you should have to be a Kaiser nurse for 5 years and must complete special projects. Educational background is irrelevant for moving up the RN levels.
That is rather telling about insurance companies and the profit hospitals make.
this is never happening again
This is only for Kaiser?
Yes because Kaiser (in Northern California) is the only hospital system that gives nurses "run pay"
