For me, this video is all about a feeling that I have, that maybe this is the birth of a new legendary trio in the motoring world. You guys are refreshing and honestly, watching this video brought back a sensation that I missed since the Top Gear trio that ended in 2015. Grand Tour is ok and I like it, but something is missing and maybe you guys are bringing this back. I can't really explain what it is but all of you are doing a really great job.
Yes I was thinking that all the way through all the videos I have watched. Its a Top Gear...tribute? Rip off? It feels that way sometimes with some of the phrases, such as - "Do you know what?" and then a fact. All I need to hear was someone going - "Oh Cock!!" or "That has not gone well" or "POWWWEEEERRrrrrrr!!!!!!!" and it could be Top Gear. With three different blokes arguing and mucking about. Either they have watched all the Top Gear episodes and are doing a sort of hommage, knock off, or its accidental to a degree. After all you cant have three blokes and three different cars doing testing without it feeling like T.G. I did think though, that the horsepower test and some of the road trip such as the fuel test were direct rip offs or ideas lifted straight out of the Clarkson era show. They did the fuel test on the economy run to Blackpool episode and the horsepower test on more than one occasion. Fair play to these three though, they are more natural and have better chemistry and are less annoying then the terrible Flintoff version of the series. Keep it up fellas....

@@CarsandtheirParts my Autocruss club would tend to differ. So would every single person I have ever taken for a drive in mine. What do you drive that's so much more exciting?
Mini R53, what a car! I'm an mx5 fan but the mini wipes the floor with it on everything but reliability. You can still buy one for £2.5k, but not for much longer I suspect.
I wasn't a fan of R53s in BRG but for some reason Taylors one looks really good in it. Maybe it's the R90s. Either way, the Mini is leagues ahead of the other two. I knew it'd come last in the fuel economy test though. 😂
@@LikeBoost42 Nah even with it stock R53s are absolutely shocking on fuel. Off boost it doesn't make a difference because under low throttle there's a bypass valve for the supercharger. Keeping it at a steady pace the MPG should basically be identical. As far as I know Taylors is still on the stock map, just has an intercooler and a smaller supercharger pulley. If it's had a remap then that's a different matter. Though funnily enough I've actually read that remapped R53s can actually get better fuel economy, the stock map makes them run very rich.
As a previous R53 owner, there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about that sweet supercharger whine, the excellent handling…and the sky high petrol bill I had 😂
If you are on a low budget the main thing to consider is the upkeep of the car, go for the one that has the cheapest service parts like brakes, tyres, etc, check out common issues with those cars and how expensive repair parts can be. I can replace the entire brakes on my mini for the cost of a pair of pads for some cars.
MX5 all day long. The most fun, reliable, economical, and with a few engine and suspension mods, the best all round performer. I've owned a 2006 Mk3 for the last 8 years, all it's had is a battery, new discs, pads and front calipers.

This video has made me miss my r53 so much, swift sport was ab of a downgrade but you can have more fun in it as it’s naturally aspirated and has twin cams so Rev to to 8k. The mini was too expensive to run unfortunately. Very good cars though!
I went from Swift to a R53. After the R53 I probaly move to Swift Sport. It may have not have the same luxury but I love the low costs and reliability on Suzuki cars. Is a Swift Sport as fun to drive?
Taylors Mini has to be the best of the bunch, on that B road at 10 tenths the others don't have a chance! I bought an R53 on 156k for £1450 and ran it for a year - easily the best bang for buck hot hatch I've ever owned. Very fast and capable! Sadly had to move it on because of its lack of boot space but I'll happily have another
The three of you together are doing a way better job than the current Top Gear. I'd love to see a The Grand Tour vs The Internet episode - a cheap car challenge off
I had a mk2.5 MX-5 and despite all the hairdresser gags it was a great drivers car. I had a 2.5 E85 Z4 and it was good, but not great coz of the harsh ride even without the runflats! I’ve not had a Cooper S yet, but I’ve driven a few, and will have one when I can find an okay one at the right time! Taylor is right! Gawd! That pained me!! 😂😂😂
I can't recommend enough buying cheap cars with your mates and doing something like this. We did a 750-mile charity run through Wales & Ireland, and it was one of the best holidays of my life!
Great to see you still using Charlie's services. I can confirm he's like this even off camera. I took my vehicles there on the strength of Alex's first visit.
Mini wins for but you need to be a mechanic like Taylor if you realistically want to keep & run one for longe than a year without parking it 360 days of the year.
if the n52 is much different to the m54 in the early z4, it had a pipe that travelled from the intake to the interior, rory should investigate and take out half of the foam insulation, because its sounds insane.
You had me going along with this until the disparaging remarks about cyclists. Seriously? They’ve just as much right to be there as you do. Proper dick move, guys.
I think a penance is required. Everyone involved in this video (including the editors who decided not to remove those remarks) to try the life of a cyclist. I’ll be going on a couple of hundred mile ride at some point in the next couple of months - a long day ride. That’s your penance. Match me.
The moment Taylor lost all my respect. It's one thing that he thinks like this, it's even worse that they decided to cut it into the video. Why can't we be car enthusiasts without the stupid hate for cyclists.
Agreed, it quite literally puts cyclists' lives in danger. There will be impressionable car enthusiasts watching this, perpetuating the "animosity" between car drivers and cyclists. It puts lives in danger because rather than encouraging patience and mutual respect it does the opposite, putting cyclists in a different "class" to road drivers. I am a cyclist and a car enthusiast, I know of people that have been killed while cycling, I have been in dangerous situations myself. There is no need for this from a popular UA-cam channel.
the mini wins i have a the same one i paid 2k for it (49k miles 2 owner) and spent 1k doing it up and have had so much fun with it, it really is a go kart, the car can handle 30mph in 1st no problem it truley is the best cheap performance car if you are on a budget
As an American, it's always interesting to hear British opinions of Japanese vehicles. I love all the Miatas, provide reliability and ease of mods/repairs etc. The later or earlier ones may be better in various departments (the new one is awesome) but there is a reason there was a factory NC2 Miata with 203 hp. The ND is better in most ways, and the Mazdaspeed MX-5 was higher factory hp but rarer, but they all allow so much aftermarket support and reliability. The MINI and BMW id be surprised have any sort of reliability, or at least perceived so here in the states maybe? Idk much about them lol. Great stuff regardless, lot of fun!
The fact that you can get these for £1500 in the UK is crazy. Here in Canada even the mini would come in at 3000, probably be automatic and even the plastic would be rusted.
@@dtulip8 so you're taxed on co2 is it bad ? I know if you have the TF that has the highest emissions it's better to be before 2001 and then taxed as above 1549cc

i am all about a cheap little european fun car. my daily driver is a mk3 5 door Golf that i swapped a VR6 and the chassis into, and it is an absolute joy. it runs weitech suspension, all poly bushings, brembo OEM style replacement brakes. it is a subdued sequoia green, with smoked factory lights, aftermarket hella headlights, 16 inch slate gray "focus" wheels from a first gen new beetle with sticky nitto neo-gen2 tires, a full stainless magnaflow exhaust, full neuspeed cold intake with box, front strut-bar, sunroof, and 2400 watts of sound inside. it hauls my kids, gets groceries, and runs with many of the v8 sports cars here in the states. and it only cost me about 1800 dollars, which is pretty close to 1500 pounds! (ive put a little into it, but still, a vr6 mk3 with no rust that hauls the family and looks good doing it? yeah)
I'm biased as I own a MK3 MX5 and wouldn't swap it for anything but it does need coilovers to make it sharper. The powers fine as you can use it all but there's nothing a bit of tuning can't improve upon. Have to say of the three I think the mini gets the win here though.
Well I’ve paid more than the three combined for my R53 here in the Netherlands, but it’s a LOVELY machine to own and drive! That whine and go kart feeling keeps putting a smile on my face. Actually wanna add a Z4C next to it, but it’s more like 20k for a decent example around Europe. If not more. Anyway, what a great vid that genuinely made me laugh!

Still have no idea how Taylor got an R53 in that nice of condition for £1500, and Alex got quite lucky and took a gamble getting that facelift NC MX-5 for £1500 also. Enjoyed the video but being honest, it would be very difficult for us to find any of the cars in the video for £1500 in working good condition
My mini was actually £1300! It does have a couple of little issues though!
It was cheap as it had timing chain issues, if he couldn't fix that himself it would be an expensive trip the garage
@@joem8213 The timing chain actually isn't that expensive to fix. A good quality kit is about 150-200 and about 4-5 hours labour. It's not 'cheap' but it won't set you back thousands.
@@MrManBuzz there was the small matter of having to remove the entire front end including engine to change the clutch too...
My mate does timing change for $650😂❤
Fantastic seeing more of Rory in front of the camera. You three work SO well together! 😀
Taylor got my vote .keep up the amazing work lads🎉🎉🎉
For UA-cam car journalist channel rookie of the year. You my good friend should have it. I know you was with another amazing channel , but you blew up on your own so fast. I wish you get 1M with in the year. Cheers!
Always had a massive soft spot for minis especially the supercharged ones I'd love to have one as a toy one day
I'll keep saying it because it needs to be said. TAYLOR WE LOVE YOU!
That Dyno guy is absolute gem
Love the 155 DTM T-shirt Alex. Would love to see a 155 featured someday!
I've said it before and ill say it again. Youre giving off legendary Top Gear vibes. Love it, loved Taylor and Rory in this episode. Keep up the amazing work, cant wait to see what the future holds for you and what amazing content will you put out!
Clearly inspired by the old Top Gear "cheap car challenges" and the only thing missing would have been a lap around a track by an anonymous racing car driver. UA-cam needs more videos like this. Excellent work gang.
That 1500£ Z4 Coupe 3.0 is the biggest bullshit ever. They go for like 10-15k....
it has 200k miles...
@@BlackLines even that will cost at least 6000£
@@BlackLines the engine mileage is the last concern with BMW's. If the motor is done you just drop another in it in no time. The body on the otherhand is the main concern. Don't tell me a rare example of an already expensive car just happened to be showed up for 1.5k lol.... There are very few of coupe versions of this model, most of them are convertible.
@@adamfarkasbdp there's a couple of 3.0i manual coupes on AutoTrader right now for 4.5k, nowhere near 10-15k. Pretty sure a ropey one could be had for much cheaper.
@@BlackLines that's still 3 times the price they say they got it for
With MOT!
Fair play, 3 of the 6 cars from the last 2 videos are things i'd actually want to own. The megane, the mx5 and the z4 si.
Charlie’s dry humour is great 😂 he’s like Taylor’s big brother 😂😂
amazing video alex. So many memories of my mum buzzing around in her mx5. Simply the best.
Is a Swift Sport as fun to drive?
this feels like the old top gears which weve all missed so much. you guys are doing a great job keep it up
The guy that owns the dyno is so rude, sweary and straight talking.... I like him, more please 😆👍🏻
Taylors Mini has to be the best of the bunch, on that B road at 10 tenths the others don't have a chance! I bought an R53 on 156k for £1450 and ran it for a year - easily the best bang for buck hot hatch I've ever owned. Very fast and capable! Sadly had to move it on because of its lack of boot space but I'll happily have another
Honestly, 43MPG in that mini is impressive, mine never got that good MPG. I was lucky to see 35 with my heavy foot
My NC MX5 doesn't give close to what theirs gets either
They were only doing highway driving, so you get much better results.
If you reset mpg average in highway... doing constant 70mph will givr you 43 mpg
@@keithvlogs1 No chance in my NC1 Miata
Mini looks fantastic in that green
The three of you together are doing a way better job than the current Top Gear. I'd love to see a The Grand Tour vs The Internet episode - a cheap car challenge off
I had a mk2.5 MX-5 and despite all the hairdresser gags it was a great drivers car. I had a 2.5 E85 Z4 and it was good, but not great coz of the harsh ride even without the runflats! I’ve not had a Cooper S yet, but I’ve driven a few, and will have one when I can find an okay one at the right time! Taylor is right! Gawd! That pained me!! 😂😂😂
So, if we vote for the Pass, 1st Mazda, 2nd BMW and 3rd Mini, all the scores are 10 and Alex struts around like a Pigeon on a chessboard?
Rory at the end, amazing! Sabotaging what could've been a great shot of all 3 cars leaving. Top notch work 👌
On that budget the MX5 is the only one that will spend more time on the street than in the workshop.
that r53 is absolutely perfect and is probably worth about 5k in that spec!!! WANT
I have to say that MX5 makes Alex look full size😂
New iconic trio was born here. Calling it right now. So much old school TG vibe, love it.
Looking forward to seeing you lads take over TopGear one day.
Mini, no question. The R53 is a certified gokart. Love it
Better than your shit mx5
It feels like classic yet modern top gear with the three of you, I love it. Please don’t become middle aged c”@!s as success prevails.
Aka Jeremy Clarkson
I can't recommend enough buying cheap cars with your mates and doing something like this. We did a 750-mile charity run through Wales & Ireland, and it was one of the best holidays of my life!
I'm in love with the Z4 coupe 😁
Great to see you still using Charlie's services. I can confirm he's like this even off camera. I took my vehicles there on the strength of Alex's first visit.
Love these videos, just as entertaining as top gear/grand tour challenges.
Mini wins for but you need to be a mechanic like Taylor if you realistically want to keep & run one for longe than a year without parking it 360 days of the year.
No way you can find a z4 coupe for 1500GBP.... not even as catB on copart
if the n52 is much different to the m54 in the early z4, it had a pipe that travelled from the intake to the interior, rory should investigate and take out half of the foam insulation, because its sounds insane.
You had me going along with this until the disparaging remarks about cyclists. Seriously? They’ve just as much right to be there as you do. Proper dick move, guys.
Was going to say the same. How dare 2 cyclists want to use the same road!
I think people forget most cyclists also drive. I love cycling as well as driving and was very disappointed to hear that remark.
The z4 coupe is slept on. I’m sure they will start to rise in value soon. R50/3 Cooper s as well.
I don't know how you found Rory but bringing him into the videos works well as you can tell he's definitely a car guy.
He’s obviously also a watch guy , dang
Mini is the clear winner, has power and handles on those b roads.
Keep up the amazing content as always Alex and the team ❤, Taylor won my vote purely because of the supercharger whine
Great video! I’ve just bought an MG TF for £1500, and I’m over the moon with it! Mid engined, RWD and the sweet and revvy 1.8 K-series
Is yours pre 2001 or post 2001
Post 2001, it’s on an 02 plate
@@dtulip8 so you're taxed on co2 is it bad ? I know if you have the TF that has the highest emissions it's better to be before 2001 and then taxed as above 1549cc
Loving this format. Just a bunch of blokjes having a great time. Let the top gearification commence
I could watch these 3 all day long, great friends and it shows on the videos. Keep it up lads, the cheap car challenges are spot on, more more more please!
Great video guys!!!...Loved the bants between the 3 of u and the quality of the production was top notch...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just bought a 07 civic type s with 73000 on clock for £1500 i know its not a classic sport's car, but I've just been enjoying the sunshine around Buxton Derbyshire dales area the car handles brilliantly its awesome that smiles can be had for just a few £ss love the channel a proper inspiration for (normal not millionaire fellow's like me)
Production values on your road trip Eps are just getting better all the time. Great stuff.
Taylor’s Mini definitely. Looks great, sounds great, handles well and great performance. I was very impressed by the mpg as well 👍🏻
Love seeing Charlie on the channel again, he's always hilarious
i am all about a cheap little european fun car. my daily driver is a mk3 5 door Golf that i swapped a VR6 and the chassis into, and it is an absolute joy. it runs weitech suspension, all poly bushings, brembo OEM style replacement brakes. it is a subdued sequoia green, with smoked factory lights, aftermarket hella headlights, 16 inch slate gray "focus" wheels from a first gen new beetle with sticky nitto neo-gen2 tires, a full stainless magnaflow exhaust, full neuspeed cold intake with box, front strut-bar, sunroof, and 2400 watts of sound inside. it hauls my kids, gets groceries, and runs with many of the v8 sports cars here in the states. and it only cost me about 1800 dollars, which is pretty close to 1500 pounds!
