@@dcmanzinYou mean the KA-52??
@@randomclipsmilitary9056 I stand corrected
That's not an Apache, you must be talking about the Ka-50 or Ka-52.@@dcmanzin
Good Lord, your setup is quite amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Many thanks for your passion and support Nick
nick from eagle dynamics ???
@@warthy4889 yes Sir
Don’t say the Lords name in vain
There almost no performance gains dude almost nothing maybe with multi threading but still not way more performance
@@petterderter6354 was it in vain? Apologies
3:27 Builds cockpit from scratch.
Claims stream deck is too complicated.
So couple of Qs:
1. The intro was Nevada?
2. Any advantages to using HELIOS over having those controls mapped directly to DCS from the very beginning?
3. Are you a FAST INS guy or you do the whole INS normally?
4. What beer are you drinking?
i have (not relevant) answers,
banana
helios means banana less risk breaking because ED (probably)
stripped banana is better
beernana
i think he drinks votka
14:40 - The thing to know about IRL night vision - especially the smaller head-mounted type - is that it generally does look pretty blurry. Certain self-illuminated sources of light (think like lightbulbs) can look crisper, but the majority of what was being illuminated by ambient light and amplified by the NVGs usually had a soft texture with that constant static grain going on. The (likely) reason the cockpit looks as blurry as it does is probably because it's mimicking/simulating the lens focused out to infinity. If it was focused closer so that things in the cockpit were sharper, you'd have a bitch of a time making out things outside of the cockpit.
When I was in the Marines from the early-2000's through the late 2000's, I had used both the binocular type with the single lens, and the later single-eye monocular type. If you had a buddy standing in a group of people maybe some 20-30 feet away, you'd have a hell of a time distinguishing who's who. You'd definitely be able to make out the basic size and shape of each person, but the finer details would look more ambiguous. The better systems, which are consequentially larger and heavier, tended to be either large mounted scopes on things like machine guns, or as part of some equipment on a vehicle. With those, you would 100% be able to make out who's who in that same group of people from that same distance, though mounting something that size to a helmet would be pretty unwieldy. I can't really speak to newer helmet-mounted systems, though it wouldn't shock me if not much has changed with them, outside of maybe power-usage, size, weight, and how much they're able to amplify. (Dedicated thermal and thermal/NVG hybrid systems seem to be where things are headed anyway.) It also wouldn't shock me if there were civilian head-mounted variants out there that did look a lot better. God damn does that hold true for so much equipment. 😂😂😂
When I had first started played DCS a few years ago and used the NVGs for the first time, I got kind of a laugh thinking "Wow. They got what it feels like to look through these things pretty damn well." IMO, ED did a good job in reproducing the look, along with some amount of the limitations that come along with it. At least on the plus side, you don't have to adjust the focus or worry about your batteries shitting the bed, so that's a plus.
So there's an overly-lengthy TheMoreYouKnow.jpg moment for you. 😅
From a mil helicopter pilot perspective, I've heard from a few pilots now that the intention is not to use the NVGs for cockpit readings at all - the aim is to use NV for semi-close work, landing/troop deployment/etc. and use peripheral vision for the actual cockpit reading.
With the AN/PVS-5, one of the first sets of goggles used in helicopter work, pilots would have to focus one pod for the instruments and the other for external work. It had a huuuuge faceplate which restricted all peripheral vision, leading to a fair few deaths until they introduced a newer mounting system.
Spot on you look underneath for instrumentation inside the aircraft.
@@bigman4404 that doesnt sound good.... Im joining up as 153a here soon and hope the v280 has some new Night vision capabilities
So much hard work you've done to get this far! Its a farkin beast maaate!
Every time I come back to this channel (or Twitch) my jaw drops as though it's the first time I've seen this setup. Absolutely brilliant!
Your setup always freaks me out. I love all the technical stuff that goes into creating this.
I found your you tube channel by accident and I must say I am glad I did. What a fantastic setup you have there. The hours spent on your set up makes the flying all the worth while. Thank you for the your and adventure.
Mate, this is impressive. Hats off to you!! Cheers
This has got to be the best home simulator setup out there. You should look into manufacturing these for sale to other enthusiasts. You could offer a build it yourself kit or a full turnkey setup. Once you get a feel for the market you will probably be able to expand to other platforms like the F-16, F-15, F-18, maybe even the F-22 and F-35. I could even see this type of simulator for smaller civilian planes like a Cessna, Beechcraft, etc. that flight schools would be able to purchase to help train students getting their private pilot's license. Sim time would be much less expensive that actual flight time in a much safer controlled environment just like the military does.
That has come so far outstanding. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Awesome setup been watching a few of your earlier ones been a long haul. Well done👍
This is just absolutely AWESOME!!
Amazing build! Great gameplay video too, thanks for the entertainment.
This is such a cool video! The setup is awe inspiring and it makes me want to make a similar build for my f18c, I think the DDI buttons are the most useful addition to the cockpit as those are used the most following the HOTAS.
It's insane to think that you can get this good without touching the real thing, for both piloting and communicating. The radio chatter sounds live, but I really can't tell because of how experienced everyone sounds.
As someone who has played for a little over 3 weeks, I look forward to getting to this point
Huge fan of the beers's opening tool (and of course all the stuff in your amazing home made cockpit). So impressed...
Mega results, brother. Very impressed!
that canopy knife bottle opener is *chefs kiss*
My goodness! It's awesome.👍
11:40 Loved the Halo shield sound effect, awesome video!
This is unbelievably impressive!
Holly cow dude, this setup is absolutely insane.
This is bonkers mate! Unreal!
Holy shit.
You are a very capable person. I'm extremely envious
WOW! Beautiful setup
JFC!!!!!!!!!! Mate this is INCREDIBLE.
I love the live leak logo on the TGP
looks brilliant
This is the coolest man toy i've ever seen in my life. I was gonna buy a boat, now I just want whatever he's built here.
Hells to the yeah
i KNEW a setup like this was cool AF. then i see you going through that start procedure with a kneeboard, the audio..... man that immersion level is CRAZY right from jump.
dawg I had a dream once that I had a canopy “pod” setup that looked like this in the corner of my room, except it was either and f16 or f22 sim. Always look back on that dream and wish it was reality. This is awesome.
someday.... this is amazing
Like a Movie So Entertaining Thank you.
Wow... This is the most incredible thing I've seen in the direction of simulators))
This is absolutely crazy.
The "LiveLeak" is a nice touch.
I have a similar spec gaming PC but with an OC'd 13900K and 4090 on custom loop water with the Velocity^2 block. The recent multithreading updates gave a good improvement but I think they still have more to do. Incredible simpit. I'm jealous 🙂
You too can do it!
Very impressive
wow, your rig is just amazing man
Very cool 👍
Awesome setup you have here. Do you ever feel like you're locked in to ONLY ever fly the A-10? I imagine flying other aircraft, especially older prop aircraft, would be VERY immersion breaking.
Hey buddy, i have been following you for a few years, awesome build, i started building my own thanks to you inspiring me!
Anyway, your MFDs, are those cougars or homebuild?
THIS is actually so insane, in brain just blew off, i am still trying to understand it. but this is an absolute nerd dream. 14 year old me would have wet my pants seeing something like this.
If you set the trackir as such that you have alot of dead space in the middle all the way to 90 degrees each side, then keep some head tracking after that point to look behind.
I think by doing that, you won't have to switch a button to look at the back.
This is amazing, some of these shots I could honestly be tricked into thinking it’s real if you got rid of everything on screen , if you don’t mind, how much did this all cost you? Also, does this all pass integrity check?
❤
Fantastic setup. I'll run Cap for you anytime! Just wait till you pop in a 4090 at some point. It will blow your mind 👍
Its basically one of the Military's Flight simulator at this point LOL
GOD MODE activated!
Love following along. I just upgraded my system to the same as yours except I have a 3090ti and like you will not be upgrading for quite some time.
Yes, that is awesome. You have fulfilled the dream of every flight simulator enthusiast. I'm totally jealous, but I don't begrudge you.
Shit dude that is amazing wow :O
Bro that is crazy how realistic it looks on the Gopro, honestly when i saw the intro i didn't know it was dcs XD
Setup uptdate next month: " I've bought a real f18"
bro this looks so good but like how do you start where do you start and how do you make this stuff or buy?
I just finished building a 13700KF with 32GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance on a Gigabyte Aorus Z79 Elite AX and a ASUS Tuf Gaming 3060Ti OC. Glad to know what the capability of this combination really is! This was an upgrade from a 4790K/R9 setup that lasted me for more than 8 years. I just refused to pay more than a thousand dollars for a decent video card.
I'm not really interested into milsim flying stuff, but what you have created is fantastic.
BTW, I retired out of Moody and live nearby.
Rotary wing guy though.
Is the tail number a Moody bird?
When I do big remaps or new aircrafts, I save my keymaps on a USB key or cloud... Last time I lost everything, It sucked to remap again and again...
all you need is some hydraulics. nice!
permission to buzz the tower 🙃
Wow 😮
Freakin Awesome work m8 .
Why are you using DCS in single thread mode ? DCS works much better for me with the multi thread version ...
Awesome! Have you thought of adding a motion simulator? And would it even be possible to interface with dcs?
Peter Moore Have you seen this? ua-cam.com/video/-XGPi8oaH9w/v-deo.html
plot twist : it's actual real war video leak, but some unknown algorithm AI thing makes this all look like a game.
I can imagine you getting so immersed into your setup that one day you'll unwillingly pull the eject seat and your neighbors will see you blasting out of your roof XD
Can u 3d print a bobble head a-10 and place it on the dash? And maybe wire a motor so that when you pull the trigger it spins a cute mini gau-8 on the model?
Also have you though of using a hand tracker in VR? Or have you memorised the cockpit enough to negate the requirement of it?
sounds like you had a great GCI there, sounds like SargeSabik
Hey mate, love the setup! One question... What do you do with your switches after a restart/death... Got any way of resetting them?
Great job! I guess you don't need VR!
35:32 is that a cheeky jump cut of a go around :D
31:31 commentary is fuckin gold! I love it.
Is it JoyToKey that is mentioned at 6:12? Seems very useful. But isn't it also possible to map a joystick button as a modifier natively? Or does this not work, for example with custom Lua modifications?
What simulator do you use? that's awesome
Thoughts on a collomated HUD?
Damn!
That Darkstar guy sounds cool. ;)
WOW
Any video showing how you did it all, thanks
THE Warthog Project how do you do multi spry paint color laser etching. the part with white text black and yellow borders
The thing for me is even though u not on a motion platform the projectors give the since of motion from where the the position of the cockpit is. Ive followed u over the years.
So cool! But how to use HMCS?
Update June 2030 - Finished building a real A-10 - almost shot down
From zero to hard-on, how amazed do your friends react when you open the door to that and say "check the man cave out bro...."
This man spent more on this setup than I make it a year…easily!
i wonder whats more immersive, VR or 180deg projector screen
Liveleak overlay is legend! ;)
I've always loved a good flight sim and gradually over the years I might have bought the odd expensive PC and set of sticks , even track IR at one point. Always dreaming of what it must be like to have a proper set up.
Well this has to be the pinnacle of that. Basically you're flying tye real thing here , every switch and dial , all the buttons there for you to learn and remember .
The problem is after watching that pre flight check I'm kind of put off ever trying to copy this lol
THAT LOOKED LIKE HARD WORK!! 😂 I think if I flew that for the night I'd come out bathed in sweat with a huge stress headache!! 😅
Honestly do you ever think that maybe you've gone beyond the "fun" element of playing a game pretending to be a pilot into the realm of taking on board all the complicated brain taxing tasks the real pilots face? Only you're not being paid hehe
I don't know, rather than spuring me on I feel this video is like a warning. Maybe I'm not a "proper sim" lover . Maybe I'm more of a casual flyer.
Couple of sticks a, VR helmet Maybe, but it's not time to refurbish that spare room into a cockpit.
Plus my god how much must it all end up costing, and you can't really change to a racing car game and enjoy the immersion as you're still in a real f16 cockpit lol. No I'm sure it's still amazing but somehow I can't see someone so dedicated to getting it so accurate a realistic suddenly booting up a formula 1 racing game!
Still thanks for showing it all. I'm glad you love it and you've built your dream set up, it's kind of lucky I've seen this probably ain't for me. Unless of course I can have a go at a show one day . That I think I'd like. Every other night tho, I'd end up with migranes I reckon!! 😅
Haha thanks man! Honestly, most of this hobby is designing and building the thing, not actually flying it. The fun is to be had in the garage, soldering and laser cutting like a mad scientist. I don't take it to seriously, despite what some simmer say it's only a video game lol. Hell, most of the time I'm airborne online I'm 6 beers deep.
@thewarthogproject well that set up sure is something to be proud of. It's top notch fabrication. It's gotta be on par with what you'd get on film sets! I can appreciate what you're saying about the fun being in the building too. Like a "project" , a hobby in itself. Personally I think having hobbies and completing what you set out to do is the secret to a happy life!! 😁 (especially if at the end you can if you want sell it at a profit! Hah and I'm sure you probably could!)
Still waiting on you to tell us where you got that F14 artwork , that s to the top right of your screen
I’m surprised my guy doesn’t have a full pilot gear setup complete with a g-suit and everything to finish off the feel lol
Is there any way to add some kind of a ceiling monitor?
Wow! ...Wow! like, smh Wow!
this might be a dumb question but do you ever plan on having a glass/plastic canopy made?
Я бы с такой штукой вообще на улицу не выходил...
what resolution are you running your projectors at? Can you share your immersive pro master settings? I've got 3x Optoma GT1080 and my projection isnt nearly as sharp. Yours looks awsome, I dont know what else could be the difference
Intro video clip looks real
If I ever win big in the Lottery, I gonna make you an offer you cannot refuse! 😅 Amazing stuff...
Is the water in a water-cooling loop supposed to be full of bubbles? I would assume not but I don't actually know.
