What's problematic about KTM's subscription software is that you've bought the bike at that point. They've sold you crippleware, where previously when you buy a bike the bike is yours, now you're buying the hardware & subscribing to a licence to use the software, without which the bikes features become limited. It should be a one-time fee. If you don't want all the features, don't buy them, but to be paying every month for it? NAH. That's like John Deere shutting down tractors if the farmer tries to service it himself.
Damn straight. There is no angle where that looks good. Micro transactions to turn on heated seats, heated grips, or other things YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR is insane. Anyone defending or supporting it in any form is the enemy. That shit should be illegal.
I am looking at a KTM right now and I do not believe that turning on the software to enable the tech features after the trial period is a subscription. It is a one time fee. You get to try all the tech features when you buy the bike at no additional cost and at the end of the trial period you pay for individual capabilities or which packages of capabilities you want. You would have had to pay for it upfront without trying them before this. Now the buyer is able to make a more informed decision at no additional cost. I am not against it. Example: I bought a 2022 Triumph Rocket 3 GT (triple black limited edition) and paid a lot for the Triumph connectivity package, which was added by the dealer. If I had been able to try it for a couple of months I would not have bought that expensive POS. Triumph's execution of that functionality is terrible. There are ways to work around it that are far better at much lower cost. I don't even use it! I had no idea it was as bad as it is before I paid for it. In fact, I took the bike back to the dealer and had them test it and they found not problems with it. I knew I was going to be in a different area a couple of weeks later and took it to a different dealer . I made an appointment with the dealer there and they tested it and checked it out and told me it works as designed. The technician there told me those units simply don't work very well but there is nothing wrong with mine. I read up on it and played around with it because I really wanted it to work. There isn't anything wrong with it. It works but it just sucks. I added that onto an already expensive bike and consider the Triumph connectivity package a giant waste of money. Other than that, love the bike.
@@bradleybaker8894 There is just one thing that you need to consider in your argument. No company sells you a bike at a loss. So all components inside the bike at the time of purchase are paid by you and they make a profit out of the bike evan if you don't buy the extra features. Of course they are expecting extra margin when all purchases are sumed up because you can average the extra package purchases through all the sells. But this only means that the person that would not want any of the extras is paying extra for something that they do not want (because the bike without any extras could be cheaper to produce and sold cheaper as well). Of course you make a great point about the ability to try features but I would prefer a way to test them without affecting the possible price of a bearer bone bike.
@@lululuvieira a few points to consider. KTM is a premium product and not a bargain basement bike. The price alone steers many people to other brands. I have no info on their balance sheets or profit per model. I do know they sell every bike they make. Many models are simply not available even if you walk into the dealer waving a suitcase full of cash at them. So, they aren’t going to lower their prices and since they sell out their production run each year I doubt they care if they lose a few potential customers. Someone else will buy that bike at the price listed. It is less expensive for any company to make all their bikes in the same physical configuration. The difference is what software runs the features you elect to pay for. In KTMs sales model you get to try it all at no cost. Then pay for what you want. If you don’t want the technology enabled capabilities, don’t pay for it. If you want a bare bones bike, you can have that and not pay for what you don’t want. I’ve worked as a product manager for tech products and on my products the software was a major cost driver during development. Any company that incurs a development cost passes that on to the buyer. In KTMs case, only those that want the capability that the software enables pay for it. That seems fair.
Disagree with the KTM Sub model - because.... ALL of the hardware and software is already ON the bike. If it was an optional extra you selected in the original order - then fair enough.. You have the choice to have it fitted - or not. However, as indicated, ALL of this hardware and software is on the bike already. They just charge you EXTRA to be able to fully use something you already own??? F insanity. I certainly would NEVER buy a bike or car under these restrictions. It's simply blackmailing customers, forcing them to spend more. IMHO....
Do you know if you can pick one feature and keep it or is it an all or nothing Also I havent seen a price listed or I couldnt find one like how much is it monthly or can you lump sum pay it Lots of questions When I get more time I will do a deep dive on it
Or maybe they could just charge extra in the original sale price, just because they install the hardware doesn’t mean the functionality is included in the price. Putting everything in upfront lowers cost of production, if you want particular features you have to pay for them. It’s not a difficult concept. Stop complaining
@@Corey-pd3mi why should people stop complaining?if you happy with paying for things that should be standard, good for you,not all of us are.had the same shit with the 690,have to pay for a dongle just to switch off the front abs.ktm's are awesome but they won't be the brand I'll support next time.
@@timreed2047 they should be standard, why? It would only increase the price and reduce choice for different customers? Not everyone wants all those features, they are able to cover all types of buyer. those that want all the technology pay for it, those that don’t want it, don’t.
Why you should grt a bike at this pricing while you are under their mercy where you had to pay for using there program already build in. I never buy one anyway there are lot you can choose from .
I called dozens of shops. Trying to get my name on a wait list to get a T7 in the next 6 months. Somehow......SOMEHOW, I called the one shop, 2 hours from home, that had one delivered TODAY. Ha. For me, this past summer, it took 55 calls to dealerships before I found one coming in within the month. I paid hefty freight charges, etc, but I secured it, broke it in, and rode it to Alaska. Great bike. Have fun.
Great bike, it's a total pig to lift. Highly recommend getting a high mount exhaust and some crash protection but it's my first adv bike and it's been a blast and has given me more fun without risking my license 😀
Having ridden a VStrom 1000 for several years now I have to say that I want to stick with a VTwin. I’d go for the new Strom it’s the best value. Screw KTM, they are too expensive
KTM 790 ADV Rider Here. If i we're to buy a new bike in today's market and all it offers, i'd gravitate to the Transalp, or even wait for what Suzuki has up their sleeve. Making me buy the QS-Software separately to the already installed mechanical components was already a scammy move, tbh.

The KLR 650s is the Adventure Bike I'm intrested in. With a 30" inseam - a shorter seat height is very appealing to me. And the machines are basically bulletproof !
You may want to look at the Suzuki DR650 also. My brother inlaw used to have one when I had my XR650l. I think the seat height on the DR650 is designed to be lowered if needs be. Watch some comparison videos :-)
The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is a great ADV bike that only needs a windscreen, crash bars, panniers, personal extras (All readily available online). The seat height and cockpit are perfect for 30" to 32" inseam riders. I bought one 2 weeks ago, it is the most under rated bike that no one talks about. Fantastic on the freeway up to triple digit speeds. Built for real off road use (they raced 2 in the Mint 400 and won by over 40 minutes which was also the quickest time ever). Lighter feeling and much more nimble than the KLR or DRZ. Lots more torque (L twin engine), fast revving, tons of fun. Great electronics with excellent ABS that can be turned off.
Had a KLR650 2018 it was the greatest motorcycle I've ever had. I went all the way to Moab and ride it in six different states. There is just only one main con can't keep up with traffic and if you need to pass someone or speed up it's not there. Once you pass 70/80mph that's it.

The new midweight dual purpose bike should be called DR800T because it's way closer to the DR lineage than to the V-twin models (remember where the V came from?). And the looks of the new bike are clearly inspired by the vintage DR models.
Love the content. Subscribed after I stumbled on your channel earlier this week as I was doing more research before I bought a 2019 crf450L yesterday! Super happy with my purchase and thankful for your videos to help the decision.
The Suzuki Vstrom 1050 DE actually surprised me... because I could not believe thay Suzuki would ever finally give us more ground clearance and a 21" front. I might actually buy one since I love my 2020 650 so much, buy would not mind a bump is power and a 21 in front at all.
@@BornAGoon does this ‘23 DE have the rumoured i2, taking the V out of the Strom? Most others have gone i2, so Suzuki should be up for it around 2525 🤣

Frankly I'm waiting for a 450cc rally style single cylinder with long maintenance intervals (think Honda 450l rally). That's my unicorn. Until then my Honda cb500x with rally raid kit is pretty darned close.
That's my dream bike! The crf 450l is nice but I don't want to deal with the high maintenance. Windshield and fuel tank can always be added later (but would be nice to have stock) but the maintenance intervals are the most important part of making it the perfect (for me) adventure bike. All of the listed bikes in the video are too heavy for the riding I like to do.
8:16 - Nope, there is no "However....." KTM effed up big time and lost my business for the time being and offline, there are a dozen or so people I had the chance to talk about this and they all felt the same way. KTM can go fly a kite!
True KTM are fools for underestimating the consequences of their rip off system. Do any other manufactures like Aprilia or Honda or Kawasaki treat their customers this way ? As the market changes they will not attract new business. Imagine buying a new RSV4 Factory and then having to decide what electronics you want to keep AFTER you own the bike and paid for those electronics in the purchase price.
how hard is it to comprehend that it is not a subscription but just a 1 time fee , and you could ride the bike 20+ years without ever paying it , the demo mode simply allows the rider to try out those options before having to decide wether to pay for them or not

Zero "Adventure Bike" clearly fills the same need as most BMW GSA's, KTM 1290 Adventures and Harley PanAmerica's. Owners will kit them out with luggage suitable for Kate WInslet's trip across the Atlantic, hang lights, cameras and all manner of crash-guards all over them, then equip themselves with thousands and thousands of dollars of extreme body-armor expedition-wear, and regularly (at first anyway) fire them up, ah I mean to say, switch them on, for a non-stop sojourn for dozens of miles to the local moto-cafe Saturday and Sunday mornings to park alongside all the Hardcore Outlaw Accountant and Project Manager's Harley's. Here out west, where larger "Adventure Bikes" at least sort of make sense due to the vast distances we have to traverse, The "Zero-Adventure" bike, with its 85-mile range at 70mph and 50-or-so mile range at 80 mph (Honestly, when was the last time you rode on the interstate at only 70?) will have no option but to stay around town unless accompanied by a support truck with a 5K generator. Before you heap hate all over me, I am currently on my third Beemer RT (wore out the first two), put 10's of thousands of miles on an '04 Beemer GSA, did the same with a Katoom 950 Adv R, but have gotten wise (old) enough to realize that the "Adventure" should not be trying to figure out how to either keep upright, or alternatively, pick up 500# or more of soul-torturing folly. Truly wish Honda's new offering were to be a 450 Transalp coming in well-below 400# dry, with a 6+ gallon fuel capacity, beefy sub-frame and 5000 mile minimum service interval. A fat wide torque curve and power output that does not require electronic intervention to control would go a long-way as well in delivering a usable off-pavement "Adventure Bike".

Paul from Australia, the CFMoto 800 is in Australia as is the T7, 890 etc etc , the CFMoto build quality isn’t that good , BUT neither is the Husky 901 . I think 🤔 manufacturers are more about money 💰, profit then after sales service or reliability in some cases ( like the KTM 790 ) The new Suzuki 1050 XT strange thing is the rear wheel is tubeless and front has a tube - they must have ran out of money 💰 or was an after through bike .
Hope there is an adventure bike fit for the smaller asian size individual, 500cc up kind of heavy, wrestling it across narrow mountain dirt, gravel, muddy roads
Not just smaller Asian individuals... My jaw drops everytime I see these new "adventure" bikes that are ponderous behemoths at 650, 750, or 900cc and above. I've done some rough offroad riding in my day, and I would NEVER choose one of these bikes! It's like the manufacturers don't think weight or agility matters at all offroad. To me, that matters the most. Give me a solid 350 or 450cc offroad performer and IMO, that is the ultimate adventure bike size.
The problem with KTM's demo mode, is that all of the features are already installed on the new motorcycles. KTM has already gone to the expense of installing the hardware and the software, including the extra expense of developing and installing software to turn features off. Everything you need is already on the motorcycle, you paid for it, they just won't let you use it.
I agree. If I was keen on the bike I would just tell the dealer that all features are permanent or I walk. The truth is that at the price point, I don't think the bike is worth the money with the features activated anyway but if that is your thing.
I agree. It’s already on the Bike when you Pay for it. Just to have it turn off, and Pay again to turn it back on! That’s a bunch of BS. No KTMs for me. If we don’t take a Stand now, all the Bikes will end up coming that way!
I’ve ridden the CFMOTO 800MT and you’re right, build quality is pretty good and it’s definitely more street biased. It is noticeably too heavy though and it’s plastics won’t take a hot like a KTM’s. It’s incredible value for money though and the only big con against it is the ABS can’t be switched off for dirt use.
So I've just learned of an off-brand bike that I really want to get my hands on, curious if you've come across it. Seems kind of up your alley, too. The APJ PR7. It's a 600cc single cylinder with 300mm front and rear Sachs adjustable suspension. No ABS/TC. A rally screen on front gives it decent highway capability. It even includes a Samsung tablet mounted behind the rally screen... not that a fancy trip computer makes for a selling point for a bike like this, but it's a nice touch. I just got an Aprilia Tuareg 660 this year after agonizing between a Husky 701 Enduro and the Tuareg. I went with the Tuareg because no matter where I go, I have an hour (or more) of highway to ride before I get to dirt. I might have gone with the PR7 instead had I known about it back this summer.
You absolutely hit the nail on the head about the KTM strategy and people will complain regardless of how they approach. People complain about having pay extra for these features, but if KTM included it all baked into the price of bike, then others would complain that they don’t want to be forced to have all these rider aids. No matter what you do, some group will bitch and moan about how they want it different.
id really rather just pay up front for features and for how expensive ktms are i dont think its that much of a stretch for the rider stuff to be a standard feature. this is just the klim airbag vest thing all over again
You're missing the point, it is still all fitted, they are just turning off your ability to use it. It will start with a a one-off cost then end up having to cough up monthly to keep something already fitted to your bike operating.

Dead wrong about ebikes. We are decades from that tech being valid for long trips and more efficient than ICE. . Not to mention, battery powered vehicles are far more harmful to the environment than ICE. Great video, just dead wrong about e-bikes.
I own a CF MOTO 800MT and it is great! Unbelievable value for money. It is NOT an off road adventure bike but it is an excellent adventure tourer. Brilliant on the bitumen and brilliant on dirt roads. Capable on trails but like I said its not designed or sold to compete with a KTM 890 Adventure R. Build quality is excellent, comfort is excellent and after owning many bikes I have to say this is right up there as one of my favourites.

the problem I have with Electric is the battery life. People say oh well you don't need to have a 200 mile range but I do. You said 3 hours off road, that is one hour short of the Redington Ramble loop. The other thing is that with an electric motorcycle is that it is so heavy to do off-roading. Yeah it is fine with off-pavement but as soon as it gets technical you feel the weight. I know someone is going to argue "well its only 540 pounds, the Africa Twin weighs more than that." and you would be correct but I take a KLR 650 off-road and its about the heaviest bike I will take. Maybe if they can get a 400 pound bike to last 4 or 5 hours off road I will jump on the Electric bike train. The battery technology is not there yet.
I bought a MG 85TT cause of the lower seat height and the fact I'm older and only 5'9" which makes over a 33' seat height to high for my toes to barely touch the ground.
Husky 701 owner here. It is hard not to turn off the TC nanny and wheelie it while riding on the road, or to go to a local business park after hours to terrorize it "urban enduro" style by jumping over curbs, riding up and down stairs etc like a complete moron. The big single goes very well off road with actual competent and quality XLPOR suspension under it. There is nothing soft, slushy or wimpy about the 690/700/701s, they can be ridden not like an ADV bike, but more like an actual dirt bike. Tires are the limiting factor and those can be addressed according to the owner's desires. With an exhaust can and a good map on a PC6 installed, the LC4 engine is barky, aggressively fast and about as subtle as a punch in the nose, and for that I love it! The 701 brings out the worst in me, and that is so much fun. The big LC4 engine also has been around for awhile now, it's weaknesses are well understood, fixes are easy, and a lot has been ironed out. The dual counter balancer is a huge upgrade, they run very smoothly. The LC4 may not be a KLR 650, but they are reliable, and a KLR doesn't put out 60+ at the rear tire and it doesn't have a well suspended, fun to ride sharp handling chassis either. There is something about a truly aggressive high performance thumper - they just rock. The 690/701 comes with basic but effective ABS and traction control, and no demo mode. The LC4 based 690/700/701 is not cheap, the new instrument pod is right off a 500 EXC basic (which I actually like for this purposeful kind of bike), and it is not terribly comfortable over the long haul road but it is fine with a Seat Concepts seat and a small screen added, and they fill the 50/50 dual sport niche like no other. Do I wish they were less expensive, had a better seat and were closer to perfect out of the box? Sure, but what bike is perfect out of the box? As for the expense, ride a newer LC4 thumper and it it easy to see where the money goes. At this late mid life crisis stage in the game they are a helluva lot less expensive than many inadvisable things I could be buying or doing 😆

It should be a one-time fee. If you don't want all the features, don't buy them, but to be paying every month for it? NAH. That's like John Deere shutting down tractors if the farmer tries to service it himself.
makes sense Im guessing if you buy used then you have to take over the subscription
I never buy

I called dozens of shops. Trying to get my name on a wait list to get a T7 in the next 6 months. Somehow......SOMEHOW, I called the one shop, 2 hours from home, that had one delivered TODAY. I locked that joker in and sent the money over right at MSRP. Pick it up tomorrow. Looking forward to the ride.
Ha. For me, this past summer, it took 55 calls to dealerships before I found one coming in within the month. I paid hefty freight charges, etc, but I secured it, broke it in, and rode it to Alaska. Great bike. Have fun.
You'll love it, over 10k miles on my T7 in a year! New tires around 6k miles and it totally transforms the offroad performance.
Great bike, it's a total pig to lift. Highly recommend getting a high mount exhaust and some crash protection but it's my first adv bike and it's been a blast and has given me more fun without risking my license 😀

I found you when a Supermoto vid came into my recommend list! Def loving your vids been watching all of them
Thanks for the sub and the kind words
The KLR 650s is the Adventure Bike I'm intrested in. With a 30" inseam - a shorter seat height is very appealing to me. And the machines are basically bulletproof !
You may want to look at the Suzuki DR650 also. My brother inlaw used to have one when I had my XR650l. I think the seat height on the DR650 is designed to be lowered if needs be. Watch some comparison videos :-)
@@momoski68 Thanks for the tip ! I'm looking at all sorts of bikes online right now. But I'm thinking an Adventure Bike would suit me best.
Awww, my personal Moto-Buddy? Your so sweet!

Good job and realy good info, also you have a great place to test and ride all the bikes, thanks and great job...
Awesome, thank you!
The Suzuki Vstrom 1050 DE actually surprised me... because I could not believe thay Suzuki would ever finally give us more ground clearance and a 21" front. I might actually buy one since I love my 2020 650 so much, buy would not mind a bump is power and a 21 in front at all.
they did a lot of upgrading to that bike too bad no different styling
Still a paltry 160mm suspension ?? I wish they'd gone to the RMZ spare parts bin...

DR-Z400S. Add a big-bore and hot cams. A Safari tank and a screen can make it look like a rally moto.
@@RKmndo why hasn't suzuki done this yet. It seems so obvious for sales. Same engine, EFI, 6 speed gearbox, bigger fuel tank, rally kit.

it does suck I will do a follow up video we I get more details
True KTM are fools for underestimating the consequences of their rip off system. Do any other manufactures like Aprilia or Honda or Kawasaki treat their customers this way ? As the market changes they will not attract new business. Imagine buying a new RSV4 Factory and then having to decide what electronics you want to keep AFTER you own the bike and paid for those electronics in the purchase price.
how hard is it to comprehend that it is not a subscription but just a 1 time fee , and you could ride the bike 20+ years without ever paying it , the demo mode simply allows the rider to try out those options before having to decide wether to pay for them or not
@@justsomedude445 Did I mention subscription? I understood it correctly as a one-time fee which, imho, is still a lousy money-grub tactic and unacceptable for this type of product, period!

Maybe I am yes Thanks for watching
I own a CF MOTO 800MT and it is great! Unbelievable value for money. It is NOT an off road adventure bike but it is an excellent adventure tourer. Brilliant on the bitumen and brilliant on dirt roads. Capable on trails but like I said its not designed or sold to compete with a KTM 890 Adventure R. Build quality is excellent, comfort is excellent and after owning many bikes I have to say this is right up there as one of my favourites.
Love the single track shots in the desert.
Thank you
I looked for a Tenere 700 last year, there were none within 300 miles of me. Sold my KLR and bought a 390 adventure. A much better bike. Hopefully as dependable
How do you like the 390
@Born A Goon I got it in November so I only have 25 miles on it. Waiting for warmer. I get a grin on my face every time I ride it. Love the lower center of gravity, better on the interstate. Better acceleration. I did add a fuelx lite and had an instant improvement in low-speed fueling.
I will probably have to upgrade the wind screen, but I think it is exactly what I was looking for.
Hi, just wondering if there’s any news about the return of the Honda falcon please!
I’ve got one (2011) and really struggling for parts, hope they return with the same motor for them parts !!
I just bought a new 2stroke. The 2smoker will always have a cult following
bless the 2 smoker
Sure it sounds good on paper but how long until the ignition is subscription based?
V-STROM best 😍
i traded a Guzzi V85tt for a CFmoto MT800 and love it.
Please, add the new Moto Morini on your list. I saw a picture and it looked beautiful. It's definitely worthy of mention and a test. Wow, it's a looker like the Ducati Desert X.
I used to have a Suzuki DR800 Big. I want a new DR 400 =D
The KTM model is like riding with the crash bars strapped to the back of the bike.
Check out the Colove Rally 450, soon to be imported into the US as the GPX 450 Rally... Might be the unicorn people have been waiting for ;-)
Thank you for mentioning those
Zero dsrx Is the real amazing motorcycle of the whole list
What bike is on the feature page. I’m assuming a concept Honda bike?
Any shaft drive bikes on the list? I need a new bike and I dislike riding my old shadow 600 on gravel, mostly because it gets the chain super dirty.
Love the "Patterson footage" of the Honda, can't find a Tennere in SW Florida to save my life, I do like the Tiger 900, just wish the engine still made the same raspy sound the old ones made.
Thank you Lots of Teneres here in Vegas if you want to spend 15K for a used one lol
@@BornAGoon There was actually one used model for 12,000, it had 4000 in upgrades and about 1000 miles on the clock, it lasted for one day on cycle trader.
We need more bikes like the T7
Subscriptions are absolutely NOT to save me money. No one buying a KTM is trying to "save money". But dipping into my pocket every year? That annoys the crap out of me.
Luckily it wont be a sub-service I have a vid coming soon to sort this out
im hoping honda gets their Transalp to the US faster than the T7 and that it compares well to it
I somehow think they will
the problem I have with Electric is the battery life.
That is true only applicable battery life is the Electric Motion trials bike but thats riding it in trials
Great Piece of Content.....S.F.A.
Thanks for watching and commenting Stan
Do you have an opinion on the Triumph Tiger 900 vs KTM 890 adventure?
You certainly gained my attention, gooood shit......
Thank you
CCM Spitfire Blackout Edition is super underrated. pros: $11,800, 306lbs wet, & 60hp. Down sides sadly can't get 1 in the states, 19" front wheel, Scrambler setup so may not be the best for standing without modifications risers/ new handle bars, stubby suspension travel vs adventure offerings, 4.7 in. stock but adjustable. avg adventure bike is about 8"
Have you ridden one of these It looks sweet
Yeah but it's not an adventure bike, it's something for hipsters to ride about town on. I bet you will never find anyone riding one off road. It's too bad CCM stopped making real adventure bikes, I own a 644 and it's a great bike.
Do this have TCS?
Its worth noting that the subscription game damn near imploded zero motorcycles they abandoned it and unlocked it in a firm ware update. They did up the price of the bike. But everything comes unlocked on the stock bike. On a better note i love my zero dsr and its sad i must sell it. Range is very centralized but it works for the comuting and short adventures i took it on.
