Hopefully we'll get to hold it again if the Hurricanes win and Brett Pesce brings it home (although I rather it came home with the Rangers some day) Just being near the cup for a fan is an honor. For a player to actually raise it, have their name engraved on it, is the mark of a life long ambition that probably started at age 5 or 6 and took a lot of personal determination, sacrifice and physical effort (with a pinch of luck).

With some training a hockey player can play any other pro sports, from american football to baseball to soccer, to even basketball, but no other athlete can play hockey. One of the other reasons why hockey trumps the other three sports, in my opinion - tradition. Nothing else speaks to pride, comraderie, and teamwork like tradition.
    Still baffles me how the NBA and NFL are getting far more airtime on network TV while the greatest sports contest on the planet is going on, but I'll say it again, I'm glad to be part of the minority in this case. I'll take the deeper sense of pride and tradition over gajillion dollar half time shows any day!!

    • @Josh-ut4wv
      @Josh-ut4wv Рік тому

      well there is a reason for the whole airtime thing. So MLB, NBA, and NHL have similar set ups. MLS has their own i dont know what it is i just know it is their own thing and the NFL has there own that as only changed slightly throughout the years. So at one point in time you could see teams on your local broadcasting stations if they were playing that day and didnt clash though if they did often it would be moved to another station as there were a few (NBC, CBS, ABC, CW, FOX) these stations were free as long as you had the proper equipment hooked up to your TV and still are to this day. Then in like the 2000's MLB, NBA, and NHL started to change to something called RSN or Regional Sports Networks so these were like ESPN but for one team and they had the rights to show that team basically like 90% of the time and in the NHL it eventually got to the first round of playoff games as well were on RSNs. The issue is this took away the way to watch all of your teams as not all would be on the same RSN but most people managed for a bit. Now why NBA gets more games not on RSN is they made a deal with Warner Bros that allowed games to be shown on TNT and sometimes TBS (MLB has a deal with them as well for games on TBS sometimes). NHL other than sometimes ESPN does not really have these and to make matters worse RSN are starting to go bankrupt and fold as AT&T sportsnet is going away and Bally sports parent company i think has declared bankruptcy. So there will be a struggle for these leagues to move on from the RSN now like i said the NFL has a different one. There's has been operate the same way thing have been so there games are almost always on CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC and sure the Thursday night game is sometimes on Amazon Prime or NFL network but the thing is most of the games are easy to watch for most viewers unlike the other leagues which has helped maintain the NFL dominance.

Or perhaps a rookie goaltender who played only 6 regular season games then went onto help his team win the cup in 1972 was one of the greatest wins. But the stories keep getting written as years go on....
