Jackson Browne is one of Rock's biggest stars from the 1970s and 80s. His career intersected many times with the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt and he's still making music. Here's a recording of one of his biggest hits, great music and amazing lyrics/story telling. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/scsJZ67ssDY/v-deo.html
Oh, Jackson. This album was the soundtrack of the 70's for me. I went to Immaculate Heart High in L.A., and in my senior year one of the girls died in a car accident. She was a stone Jackson Browne fan, and a few of her friends went to Jackson's house in Laurel Canyon and papered his gate with notes begging him to come to her memorial service. AND HE DID. He walked in with his guitar and we all FREAKED. (I remember her best friend sobbing, "He came! He came!") It really was amazing. Years later I got to see him in concert, and all but two of the songs he played that night had intimate, personal memories and associations for me. His voice ran through so much of my life in the 20th century. He was one of the great singer/songwriters to come out of Laurel Canyon in the 70's. Always love to hear him. (I recommend "The Pretender" and "The Loadout/Stay". But all his stuff is wonderful.)
Pretender is my son's song...I was in labor heading to the hospital to give birth to him and when coming home with him it played again....LOVE Jackson!!
Jackson Browne started his career writing songs for other artists such as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (he was briefly a member in 1966) & the Eagles (Browne co-wrote "Take It Easy"). But in the 70's he started recording his own songs. He had a lot of hits 70's-80's such as "Doctor, My Eyes", "Rock Me on the Water", "Here Come Those Tears Again", "The Pretender", "The Load Out/Stay", "Somebody's Baby", "Tender Is The Night" etc.
Rosemary's back up vocals and David's gorgeous slide woven thru..Jackson always surrounds himself with the best. RIP David Lindley..you will always be the best and so missed.
Jackson Browne, “Rock Me On The Water”, “These Days”, “Late For The Sky”, “Something Fine”, “Doctor My Eyes” David Lindley Plays, lap steel guitar, pedal steel guitar, guitar and fiddle. He also played with Linda Ronstadt check out “Heat Wave” 1978 live San Diego.
Jackson Browne has widely been considered as the most prolific songwriter of the twentieth century and with good reason. You should listen to the Pretender next, and listen to the acoustical version. In 1975 when my father was sixteen years old he moved from chicago Illinois to Tucson Arizona and The Pretender album had just released, and my dad would listen to it at his neighbors house who was a receptionist at a doctors office here since she had a record player. One day Jackson came into the clinic where she worked to be seen, and she recognized him immediately and told him the story of the young boy that listened to him over what other kids were listening to like the Stomes. Jackson left a backstage pass for my dad at will call and was able to go to the show that night and meet Jackson. And then 43 years later my dad and I both went and saw Jackson and got to meet him at a show and Jackson remembered my dad. He’s an incredible man, and a universally gifted artist. Listen to more of his music you will fall in love with it.
Honestly any song of his from the 70’s into the early 80’s is worth listening to. I won’t list them all cause there’s too many! Still touring and making great music.
I agree with you! If you like this song, I know you'll like "Still the One" by Orleans which was recorded in the early 70's! Like this one, you can't sit still while listening to it!
Jackson Browne is one of the only concerts I went to as a teen at Merriweather Post Pavilion. I don't remember much about about the concert, but I do remember this song when he sang it. It was almost like everyone stopped to listen and jam to it. After that, I remember people milling around, mostly looking to get high (myself included). Merriweather was an outside venue and this was the 70's. Wild and crazy times.
Jackson Browne is the artist and a fantastic songwriter and performer. I got to see him live about 10 years ago in Ottawa. Just him... he had about 17 guitars on a big rack in front of him and a keyboard and he played all kinds of wonderful songs and I was floating on the air when it was all done. I lived on that natural high for days afterward. Seeing him live was a dream of mine and I finally got to do it... him and Bruce Cockburn were playing the same weekend and I was like... omg... how do I... okay... I'll take two tickets... one for Bruce, one for Jackson, and while he was playing, Jackson Browne knew Bruce was playing that weekend and gave us a whole story about wishing he could play guitar as well as him (and he isn't a slouch on guitar, holy cow!). You will like The Pretender, Doctor My Eyes, Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate, Lives in the Balance, The Rebel Jesus and... man... there are lots more. I usually only want to see someone live once, but I would gladly go and see him (and Bruce!) again.
The song "Running on Empty" was also the title for the album, which was their 5th, and was released on December 6, 1977, making it's way up to the #3 spot on the Billboard Pop Album Chart in 1978, and stayed there for 65 weeks.
Jackson Browne was the sound track of my high school years in the 70s and 80s in California. He was it. Many people think he is one of the best singer song-writers of his generation. His lyrics are always so deep. He is still going strong today at 73 years old. This sure brings back memories. I love your reaction. 🎸
One of my favorite guys - Jackson Browne. Please react to his double song about unloading the equipment and his roadies.....so good and a real tribute to his band & crew. It's called The Loadout/Stay.
This song makes me so sad but excited to run free at the same time but knowing that time is limited. I love to drive down the highway in West Texas going nowhere to this song.
My boyfriend at the time and I saw Linda Ronstadt, Dan Fogelberg and the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium in KC in '78. We left at what we thought might be the last song and learned the next day that Jackson Browne had made a surprise appearance. Damn.
JB is still a top performer, continually touring and writing great tunes. We are the same age; his music has been a big part of the soundtrack of my life.
Jackson Browne is the front man, singer and songwriter, and his band shares his name. He is a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame member and was inducted by Bruce Springsteen, who said at the ceremony: "He writes the songs we all wish we wrote." He was a hit machine in the 70s and 80s and there's nary a dud in his entire catalog, but in addition to those songs already suggested, try these: Rosie. You Love the Thunder. Cocaine. (Off the Running on Empty album, not to be confused with Eric Clapton's song, also another major hit). Boulevard. Hold On, Hold Out. (The harmonies, omg, the harmonies on that song! Priceless.) She Could Sing. Again, his catalog is so deep you could listen for days. And he's still writing new stuff and still performing. Enjoy!
Got to see Jackson Browne twice in my life. He's an icon in music. In the early days, he was part of the LA scene along with Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles. Glenn Frey (Eagles) and Jackson Browne co-wrote Take It Easy. Glenn and Don Henley sang in Linda Ronstadt's band before they left to form The Eagles. It's a fascinating history of time in music. I'm still a fan of all three and have numerous vinyl albums because that's all we could buy back then. Jackson's song says he was 21 in '69. I was 18. I'm old now but I got to live during the greatest time in music. Don't forget to check out more of Bob Seger. You've got some in your playlist but there's a whole lot more to hear. Shame on the Moon, Like A Rock, and if you really rock it out, Ramblin' Gamblin Man ♪♫♪ :)
Singer/songwriter Jackson Browne. You could about throw a dart at the track lists for his albums, For Everyman and Late For the Sky, and you'd hit your new favorite song. Songs i'd enjoy your reaction to: THESE DAYS FOR A DANCER BEFORE THE DELUGE Thanks for checking out this very special artist. Peace -
ADogg, I just loved watching you react to my favorite artists. Jackson Browne, lead singer a favoiite songwriter in concert. Lap steel guitar David Lindsey is on most of my favorite songs. "Late for the Sky" my favorite album! Love the ones you react too! ❤️
Great song 👍. Released in 1979. Jackson Browne is a solo singer and instrument player. In the 1970s, he was a roommate of Don Henley and the late Glenn Frey. Jackson Browne wrote and sang many hits. 50 years ago 🎂 he wrote Doctor My Eyes and wrote Take It Easy with late Glenn Frey. Suggested next video 📹 Jackson Browne sings Somebody's Baby 👶
Just a fun fact: What would eventually become the Allman Bros. Band, the Hourglass got a record deal with Liberty Records in California and were given a box of demos and told to pick out their album. Gregg Allman stayed behind and roomed with Jackson Browne and formed a lifelong friendship. Duane Allman couldn't go for it, so he moved down to Muscle Shoals, AL and became a session musician where he met Jaimoe. They formed a bond and moved on down to Florida where Duane met Butch Trucks, Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley. They began jamming together and it all came together, but Duane wanted to bring Gregg back from California. Since Gregg was disillusioned by what Liberty Records wanted him to do, he left, went back to Florida with several songs he had written and started jamming with the rest of the guys. Duane told them as he blocked the door to keep anyone from leaving, saying, "Anybody don't wanna play in this band, you're going to have to fight your way past me. (paraphrase). And the rest is history. Gregg would later record Browne's songs "These Days," and "All My Friends." My favorite Jackson Browne song is "The Pretender." The lyrics are nothing short of poetry.
Jackson Browne songs I'd recommend: "Fountain of Sorrow" (about Joni Mitchell). ""Take It Easy"/"Our Lady of the Well" (the first song leads directly into the second), "My Opening Farewell," "The Pretender," and "The Road."
Jackson Browne was and is the great bard of the generation that came of age during the 1960s and 70s, so it always helps in deciphering the meaning of his lyrics to understand the history of those times and what that generation of young people experienced. And, for those of us who were there and traveled roughly the same road that Jackson did, he was/is our great lyrical historian, both in personal ways and collectively. Also, he has kept the faith politically as an artist over the years, remaining humble and dedicated to the values of the peace and environmental movements that he and the rest of us came of age with. I'd like to recommend three specific songs of his that demonstrate what I'm talking about: Before the Deluge, For A Dancer, and Lives in the Balance. His catalog is vast and filled with impressive and meaningful work, but those three have long been among my very favorite Jackson Browne masterpieces.. . . And, I might add that I am not generally inclined toward celebrity worship or gushy nonsense, but Jackson is the real deal!
Jackson still sounds great And the incredible David Lindley on slide... Jackson always had the Best backup singers and players on this planet...side note Stevie Ray Vaughan first album recorded at Jackson Brownes studio.
Still have my ticket stub from this tour. Jackson Brown and most of his band were California based and influenced many bands with their many great songs. I would recommend watching the Load Out and Stay Live BBC 1978 performance.
While I like the computer enhancements given to instruments now, there is simply nothing to even compare to talented artists connecting with their instrument.
Jackson Browne fans LOVED him. There were so many bands/artists to follow back then...I also know him cuz he lived much of his time in the Bay Area. We had a plethora of great bands all at the same time in the Bay - late 60s/70s. It is he, Jackson Browne.
You should check out Jackson’s “Barricades of Heaven.” It is an incredible song! He recently redid it recently with just four people in a small studio during the pandemic.
For sure listen to “The Load Out/Stay”. Jackson Browne and the Eagles were the soundtrack to my life in the seventies and then started listening to them again when my daughter discovered the “oldies”. Saw J.B. in concert about 6 years ago and he is still amazing. Also, love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers”. Give a listen to his songs “Saving Grace” and “Free Falling”.
One if my fav lines from this song… “Look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through Looking into their eyes, I see them running too”
people would get stoned, back in the 70's, and listen to music like their lives depended on it - we liked it excellent, and some truly great artists like Brown dished it out hot
i think that is the "Section guys" cutting albums and touring with Jackson. The Section was a US instrumental rock/jazz fusion band formed in the early 1970s by guitarist Danny Kortchmar, keyboardist Craig Doerge, bassist Leland Sklar, and drummer Russ Kunkel. Other musicians associated with the group include multi-instrumentalist David Lindley and guitarist Waddy Wachtel.
My favorite Jackson Browne songs are his edgy political ones: "Lives in the Balance," "Solder of Plenty," and "Lawless Avenues" from his 1986 album "Lives in the Balance." WOW. . . - '80s Kid
Your next song by Jackson should be "These Days". He wrote it before he turned 20, but listening to it... you'd think the man had lived three lifetimes.
Jackson was not only a great performer, but he had a backing band who all became legendary session players. They recently reunited when he received a TEC (technical industry award), and hadn't lost a step. Search for Jackson Browne and The Section.
Jackson Browne is in the songwriter's hall of fame as well as the R&R hall of fame. One of the best songwriters ever with a really deep catalogue of great songs. I saw him during the tour that supported this album of the same name as this song. The album was on most best albums of the year lists including Rolling Stone magazines album of the year. He ALWAYS has the best musicians with him. The musician playing lap slide guitar is David Lindley who is a premier musician. If it has strings, Lindley can play it. JB is among my favorite musicians of all time. I can't say enough good things about him, his music, his bands, etc.
Back in the day I thought of him as a softer artist because his melodies flow and his words are so thoughtful. Then I caught the live show and he really burned down the house, as you can see.
Rosemary's voice David on slide. Jackson wrote stories and surrounded himself with the best musicians. David you are so missed..RIP😢 Please give The Load Off/Stay a listen.
Jackson Browne was nominated for a Grammy THIS YEAR. Best lyricist of the folk rock genre and the one with the lengthiest career. Compare this song to "My Cleveland Heart" or "Still Looking for Something" or "Until Justice is Real". 2022 RELEASES!! Relevant and direct reflection of overall counter culture for decades.
Omg,thank you! I was in the Blvd back in those days! Jackson was the king. But if like liked that, keep on playing him., Winslow Arizona is one of my faves. Check out Warren zevon, David kindly and he souther. So happy to hear someone who can appreciate this music
New artist LOL he has been around for decades!!!! Seriously though... an amazing songwriter and singer and yes Jackson Browne is the main singer. The lap steel guitarist is David Lindley... a star in his own right.

An Early 70's song from Jackson was "Doctor My Eyes" and his partnership with the EAGLES is a hit "Take it EASY" is a masterpiece.
The lead singer is Jackson Browne. I get such joy watching a young person get such joy out of watching the amazing musicians we had.
Jackson Browne (the singer) has to be one of the best songwriters in rock history
Many people think he’s the best, Dianne Warren comes close but she doesn’t make her own music.

Looking into their eyes, I see them running too”
Jackson is a god in the music world
They used this song in Forrest Gump! I also love Somebody’s Baby (On soundtrack of Fast Times at Ridgemont High)
Sky Blue and Black was in Friends season one.
people would get stoned, back in the 70's, and listen to music like their lives depended on it - we liked it excellent, and some truly great artists like Brown dished it out hot
Got to see Jackson Brown in Kansas City back in 1980. Great performer. He really relates to the audience.
i think that is the "Section guys" cutting albums and touring with Jackson.
You Won't be disappointed with any JB songs. Doctor my eyes a good second song.
Musical genius. You can hear a lot of his influence in the Eagles and the Eagles in his songs.
He is the artist in blue clothes, guitarist. Songwriter.
Great song
Hey, he is still writing and singing; sounds pretty good, too.
Great reaction! Next you should check out Jackson Brown "The Load Out and Stay" live BBC 1978. 👍
I wore this out on 8-track and cassette. That’s how old I am. He was so great. Thanks ADogg. Always fun.
Doctor My Eyes, The Pretender & The Load Out/Stay are all Jackson Browne songs you gotta hear!! 🔥🔥🔥
Back in the day I thought of him as a softer artist because his melodies flow and his words are so thoughtful. Then I caught the live show and he really burned down the house, as you can see.
Jackson composed many great songs including quite a few that are performed by other artists. My favorite of his is Doctor my eyes.
Jackson Browne...a true artist AND great hair! Maybe do Doctor my Eyes at some point.
" Somebody's Babe" is my favorite Jackson Browne Song, he is prolific as a song writer for sure.
I could name countless bands to listen to. My dad and I listened to music all the time. He is a musician.
Ohhhhh yeeeahhhh! Love me some Jackson Browne!! Some of the best music ever came from that time period! Thanks so much for sharing this
The artist's name is Clyde Jackson Browne. Browne worked closely with The Section, a prolific session band.
He played with a lot of people like James Taylor Carly Simon the Eagles when he was coming up in his career
He is one of my all time favorites.
Before the Deluge...Phenomenal. JB is the man.
Rosemary's voice David on slide. Jackson wrote stories and surrounded himself with the best musicians. David you are so missed..RIP😢 Please give The Load Off/Stay a listen.
Fantastic song,,,,,glad you like it. 💥💥💥👍😎
Recommend Jackson Browne's song "For A Rocker." All songs sung by Jackson Browne is a good choice. Go down the Jackson Brown music rabbit hole.
David Lindley's lap steel playing on this song sends it into the stratosphere.
Awesome tune! This album was HUGE!! Thanks!
Yes to Loadout/Stay. And be sure to follow the words to the first part, such a tribute to the people who do the grunt work of putting on these shows.
The music of the 1970 is so different then the music of today. I love it so much!
Jackson Browne “ Late For the Sky”, “ The Pretender” , “ Bright Baby Blues” , “ A Heart like Mine” ,
Omg,thank you! I was in the Blvd back in those days! Jackson was the king. But if like liked that, keep on playing him., Winslow Arizona is one of my faves. Check out Warren zevon, David kindly and he souther. So happy to hear someone who can appreciate this music
Jackson Browne is that man singing. A major activist as well as artist.
New artist LOL he has been around for decades!!!! Seriously though... an amazing songwriter and singer and yes Jackson Browne is the main singer. The lap steel guitarist is David Lindley... a star in his own right.
He is Jackson Brown the wordsmith of music
You saw Jackson Brown with Clarence Clemons doing 'You're A Friend Of Mine'. It's such a good song.
