Hey man, I just wanted to let you know that your videos really help me when I am stuck in a painting rut. You explain things so clearly and make it so approachable that it really helps folks like me understand what to focus on and how to keep improving. It's easy to be overly critical of your own work and feeling like everything you produce is just bad. Your (for lack of a better word) "gentle" style in laying these techniques out really helps soothe the overly critical voice in my head. As weird as that might sound. Cheers and thanks for all you do!
Seriously good tutorial. So clear in terms of all the details, from the sorts of colours to use, the thickness of the paint for each step, the placement of the highlights, the actual technique and how to go about it. Love it!
First time I’ve seen & heard this technique explained in a way that I understand & that is also visible as you describe it. First of your videos I’ve seen after a friends recommendation but I’ll certainly be going back & watching a lot more. 👍🏼
I think your tutorials are some of the best on youtube. You're good to listen to, and that's important, you calmly present the process on the model, and equally as important, the work on the palette and the consistency of the paint. I always recommend you to my friends who have problems with painting skin, for example. Keep up the good work.
Your one of my favorite painting channels, and it's videos like this that is why. I love how you explain things as you go. You make it look easy which I know for a beginner like me, it's not. But you explain things in a way that makes me feel the technique is attainable. Love your channel. Thanks...Cheers!!
Outstanding tutorial. You really nailed the technique and showed the viewer exactly how to achieve maximum results with good technique and, of course, an investment in time. Thanks for the post!!!
Dear Kujo, the very first video I saw about miniature was yours “fat glazing” technique. I’m truly happy to see that you’re keeping up with your tutorials.
I don’t know how it’s physically possible to get such a fine tip on the brush; and to get more than a couple of dots of paint on the model with that point…? Crap. You’re just a god. That’s all there is to it.
Fantastic video as always. I'll have to try this technique at some point. Your tutorials have been my favourites for a while, ever since I found your tartan videos. If you ever want to do a collab, I'll happily sculpt a couple figures for you.
Actually brilliant - super useful video!! I'd love to see this tackled on a much larger plain too - how does the technique hold up on say, one of the AoS Giants for example? Glad I found your vids today!
Thanks! Actually it works a lot better on larger models. I use a similar approach for the skin on this bust. -> ua-cam.com/video/yJIqfCX23n0/v-deo.html You can see a timelapse of the whole thing here -> ua-cam.com/video/7QAn97spGwg/v-deo.html
Not sure if you'll see this, but the mini will look better overall when you start joining all the areas, with skin and muscle it all connects, highlighting each muscle like it's own shape and having them disconnected detracts from the realism as you'd never see that in life. Can check out some reference images from bodybuilder shoots and think less of the colours and more of the saturation, hue and lighting.
Thanks Sure thing. It is an Escoda Reserva size 1. It's great but it's quite a bit smaller than size 1s from other brands and there's a big jump up in size with the 2 so I would recommend using it for detail work and using something a bit bigger for base coating.

You're the king, and thus, as per the thumbnail, I blend the knee.
I appreciate that and the pun. Very good. :D

A classic! I'm going to keep going til the wheels fall off, don't worry. :-)
Your videos are always super helpful. Since I found your channel I learned so much. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
You're most welcome! Thanks. :)
The way you explain these things really clicks for me. So helpful. Good to see you back!
Thank you stickman, glad to hear it!
Thanks for the well explained informative & tutorial 😃
My pleasure 😊
Perfectly explained.
Thank you. :-)

haha! A good quality brush helps a lot, and you'd be surprised how much even a small brush can hold if the paint is thin enough.

I see all the comments! Thanks for that. I understand where you're coming from, bit hard to do on this scale but I'll look into it more. Cheers.
Great content.
Thanks.
What brand of primer do you use/suggest?
It's probably not the best but I use Rustoleum spray primer. Usually grey although sometimes I'll use black if the model is going to be quite dark.
lovely
Cheers!
Great video !!! Ty. Could you indicate the brand of your brush please?

My eyeballs are allergic to rainbow sparkles, but I'll suffer through it for this video...
Thumbs up.
Rainbow sparkles? I'm so confused ;D
Kinda mimics how an airbrush creates blends.
Yeah that's right. Same sort of idea.
Shmooph
Chhweersh.
