I found this method to work the best when it comes to cleaning & descaling espresso machines. This method will work for any espresso machine. The ideal is, you take Distilled White Vinegar, mixed with water, 1:1 ratio, and run it through your espresso machine's group head, steam wand, and hot water spout. This will break away and remove any mineral build-up that your machine might have inside the water boiler or any copper and stainless steel lines. I hope you'll find this video helpful!
Enjoy your next cup of coffee and God bless!

I watch this everytime I do this. Thanks heaps
*This replaced a smaller Keurig that I owned for 6 years **MyBest.Kitchen** I wanted the convenience of the water receptacle and while this unit is much larger than the previous one, I'm very happy with my purchase. The only downside to this larger model is having to move it from under the cabinets to place the pod and refill it. I was able to rectify this by purchasing glide mats for small appliances. Now, it's perfect!*
Thaks for the tip about glide mats.
I am looking for a glide mat that you mentioned but have not found the right size. If you don't mind sharing where you bought it, that will be great
you saved my ass and the rest of my cold and bitter winter
thank you mr coffee man
Lol that's funny and praise God this video was helpful

Praise God you found this video helpful and enjoy fresh cup of coffee.
Thank you for this informative and helpful video Paul. I'm glad to know vinegar is the best and most natural way, no chemicals..not to mention the most cost effective. I'm slavic as well, I recognized your accent. Slav pride! Lol. God bless you and your family bro!

drinking a tasty ‘spro right now after following this video to clean my breville. thank you for the clear and easy to follow instructions:)
Praise God this video was helpful and enjoy the fresh cup of coffee
This was great thanks. I was actually searching for cleaning the shower head as I find Breville's booklet instructions somewhat lacking in clarity. I'm really glad to know that I can just use vinegar to clean the machine as I'm more of a natural-cleaning-product gal. 😁
Your video was clear and professional without any extra bits that just add to the time when we want to just get on with the job.
Thank you 🙏
Hey Jax, thanks for the comment. Praise God you found my video helpful. Enjoy the coffee :)
What a GREAT how to video! Thank you fir mentioning the little metal cup thing (no body else mentions that. And YES, vinegar is SAFE! Excellent, easy to follow! Thank you for also saying why to take out the filter. I think using the built in descaled settings are a good thing.
Praise God you found this video helpful.
Thank you!! I’ve been using your method since I got my breville.

With my previous machine it required a PhD in physics 😂
Thank you Paul
Thanks for this. You saved me time and money as the Breville descaling solutions are hard to find in my area (Sydney).

Thx you so much I do appreciate it!

This is awesome i didnt want to use the cafiza it leaves a nasty tadte for a vouple of shots this is way better.
Actually when the clean light is flashing that means to clean the group head. When the light is solid that means to descale. Its all in the manual. To clean the group head is a different process and needs the cleaning tablet.
That is correct. To enter DESCALE mode you have to hold single shot button and power button. To enter CLEAN mode you need to hold double shot button and power button
thanks for bringing this up
What is the difference between Clean and Descale?
@@parvinaik259this is only to flush internals, not the proper way to descale. Especially according to the manual. There's a special head insert and tablets for the correct process.
This is strange. Because I always just scaled using the double shot button. Now that I read this comment, I tried descaling using the single shot button. But, the steam wand never shuts off like it should. I’m wondering if I have a newer model of the machine?
Thank you so much ! very helpful =)
Praise God I was able to help. Enjoy
I prefer using lemon juice, works really well and doesnt have a nasty taste, after descaling, which is why i dont like the chemical ones cause you have to flush through so much water at one time, which the coffee machine really doesnt like.
Thanks for the video 👍
Praise God you found it helpful
Thank you, problem solved.
Awesome. Praise God this video was of help.
great explanation👍
Praise God it was helpful! :)
Thanks Paul, this is more economical than using the descaler powder. How about cleaning the machine? What do you use instead of the table that you put in the portafilter?
Praise God you found this video helpful. For cleaning I still use tablet. There's no other way of doing it
When the light is flashing it means to clean the group head, when the light is solid then you descale.
Great video! Thanks 😊
Praise God I was able to help.
nice tutorial!
Praise God! I'm glad you like it! : )
Thank you

Not sure about that buddy. Its so expensive to buy one of these machines and it would be a shame to destroy the machine from Negligence.
Here is some info regarding vinegar.
Vinegar does not mix well with aluminum - Vinegar consists of acetic acid, which does not mix well with aluminum. Since some espresso machines have aluminum thermoblock boilers (not the Breville Barista Pro), vinegar might be unsuitable as a descale (the same goes for citric acid). Because of that, it is best to stick to the manufacturer’s recommended descaling agents or at least look for descales with similar ingredients.
All Breville machines have Aluminum boilers. except for the barista pro. Use at your own risk.
Descale the machine twice a year with Breville descale and its only 10 bucks each time.
I would not want to destroy my dual boiler to save 20 dollars.
Hey man thank you for sharing this. I have been cleaning our machine with vinegar for years now and praise God it works great. I know most coffee shops use vinegar to clean their machines. All the internal components are either stainless or copper. I'm sure vinegar can do some damage if it's very concentrated but this is not the case tho.
Thanks.
Praise God you found this video helpful
DO NOT use vinegar, it can be hard to completely rinse out & can favour your coffee.
Use 2 tablespoons of food grade citric acid dissolved in 1 litre of water for a cheap & better alternative.
Thank you for sharing this is something to try in the future. I've been using vinegar for years now and I know most coffee shops use vinegar to clean their machines too.
thanks for the video. the pressure on the wand is low even after using the chemical packet cleaning. I'll run a cleaning with mixture of water\vinegar. what if I want to leave the mixture in the 'pipes' for extra cleaning? just run the water through the group head, steaming wand, water spout, leave the mixture in there over night and then in the morning finish the cleaning process?
Thank you very much
Praise God always happy to help
You shouldn't use vinegar, it's not strong enough and it'll leave a bad taste in your machine for a while even after rinsing.
Hey great video, I just want to make sure that you do descale mode before you do the rest manually? My machine descales automatically with the tablet. So just wanted to make sure I run a descale clean mode and then I manually brew?
Tablets just only briefly clean some parts of your machine but Descale mode will do full cleaning including your boiler.
Thanks
No problem
This is bad u know.. intryed to buy original descale in Turkey and it was so expensive.. and only one store have it.. amazon same . How come this method worked so well?
Would the vinegar affect the taste of the coffee in any level?
It could if you don't wash it out after
Thanks to you I have been cleaning my espresso mashine like this all the time.
But, by mistake I put it water and vinegar before I remove the filter. I reacted right away I rinse the filter, but hopefully it will be fine and not toxic or anything?!
What is your opinion about it?
Vinegar is not toxic on poisonous in small amounts so you should be fine especially if you rinsed it out but it's good to replace filter every half a year. If you are able to to, replace it.
I replaced it day after. Thanks for response.
where do i get filters ? other than amazon. or is there a way to make one ?
Thank you for your video🙏🏼 Can I use white vinegar instead of distilled vinegar?
I recommend using white distilled vinegar
How come when I press and hold the power button and the double cup my machine doesn’t go to descale mode . ? My clean me and hot water steam light don’t light up. Can you help me. ?
Then try holding Power & Single Cup buttons.
There are two different settings. To put machine into descale mode, you need to hold Power & Single Cup buttons. To put machine into cleaning mode you need to hold Power & DoubleCup buttons.
What if ur machine doesn’t have a discaling mode
I just have a simple frigidare espresso maker
What should i do?
Hey Ali, if your machine doesn't have descale or clean mode. Just add vinegar mixture to your machine an run it as if you were pulling shots
One question.
Why put in the water filter for filtered water ?
The more filters the better, less mineral build up inside your machine and it will last longer.
I have read that the vinegar could be bad for the machine? Doing more research.... stand by...
Some people say it may be bad for rubber seals but I have been using vinegar for 2 years now and no issues praise God 😁
@@tronixster looks good to me
thanks paul :)
Hi, where did you get the cup holder from? Also the cups.
Thanks
Hey Pat, we got them at Home Goods
@@tronixster Thanks 🙏
Can normal white vinegar be used?
Honesty any vinegar will work as long as it's a clean vinegar.
Breville says that you should not use white vinegar for cleaning their coffee/espresso machines but tbh that’s bs because it’s literally just an acid just like all other descaling solutions.
hi boss jusr want to ask if bes870 model are the same water filter size on bes860xl?
I'm honestly not sure about the water filter chart
Спасибо
Praise God you found this video helpful.
5:38 What if I can’t get it into descale mode?
If you are not able to put it into descale mode by pressing the double shot button & then power and holding it. That means your machine only needs to be cleaned and you need to press single shot button & then power button and that will put it into cleaning mode.
You don’t need to have the wand on
really? why don't you need to have it on? Water goes thru it too and leave mineral deposits
Thanks from 2024 the vinegar is $4 thanks to buyden
😂😂 let’s hope things will get better with next election
ummmmm I originally liked this video and all excitedly I went to do the process, HOWEVER, when I hold the double shot and then the power button, my machine TURNS ON normally (DOES NOT go into DE-SCALE mode). What's the deal?????
(My doubleshot button DOES work because EVERY MORNING that's what I press to make my 2 doubles and my roommate does the same 3-4 x per day)
To go into a descale mode you have to hold “single shot” button and then “power button”
@@tronixster didn’t work either
If it’s like my machine - 1. Turn machine off 2. Hold single & double shot buttons simultaneously, then hold the power button until the cycle starts. *Also, on my machine, you have to manually turn on and off the steam and hot water features for cleaning/flushing. We probably have an older model.
@@rachidenski strange. maybe it's better to contact breville customer service if that doesn't work??
You didn't tell us which model you have. Every model is different in putting it into descale mode.
Absolutely NOT!!!!
Lol how do you clean your machine?
Nice video, however it still amazes me as a european how large american products are sometimes hahaha. Vinegar here is 34oz (1L) at most at the grocery store. I do wish we had larger packaging here sometimes though.... saves multiple trips to the store.
Hey there, praise God you found this video helpful and thank you for your support. Honestly sometimes I wish here in america we had smaller products lol
