I was playing with velocity processor with drums and the range settings, but found it worked very different than I had expected. I was really looking for a velocity gate, but I did learn something. Not sure how or when this tool is necessary.

The problem is that even though it looks like a compressor it will act differently than an audio compressor.
For example, not one setting will apply to the same instrument by different brands. Some may have fewer velocity layers or the same number of velocity layers but on different MIDI data. What if a brand has mezzo forte at 55-80 and you put the range of the velocity processor to process the notes from 60 upwards? Then it will leave the notes below 60 that are actually the exact same dynamic and will only process the ones above 60, resulting in very inconsistent velocity control.
      That’s just one example.
I like the fact that there is a plugin that does this, and in all fairness, it can have some applications if you are working with MIDI a lot. Personally, it is one of the plugins that I almost never use. I will usually bring my region as close to the dynamics that I want and then bounce in place to process the audio file with an audio compressor. The reason I made a video about it is because I want my Logic pro course to be as complete and detailed as possible!
Thank you very much for watching.
