I have watched dozens of Logic Pro instructional videos. This series is by far the best. The organization of the material, precision of terminology, clarity of presentation, and not assuming too much prior experience/information on the part of the student, are outstanding. Congratulations and thanks!
Been following you now for 7 lessons, mostly for review and have found this exceptionally helpful. I believe you have a Reddit following within LogicPro X circles. Thank you. Was able to replicate from scratch the above lesson exactly. Learning plenty.
Brilliant as ever, I always learn stuff I should already know, clear concise and an object lesson in how to present a tutorial without meaningless fluff! Thanks
In this video, I demonstrate the following: 1. How to access and search for loops in the loop library 2. How to change the key of a project 3. How to import loops to the tracks area 4. How to use loops to build a musical arrangement 5. What a cool video! So much to choose from in the loop library and the way you put this together was absolutely fantastic! Brilliantly recorded tuition, thank you so much.
just realized this watching your video. In the loop library panel if you click the word KEY (next to tempo in the heading) it will organize everything according to the key you've selected. If you already know this, please disregard, I'm still learning.
❗️Loops Tip: You still can change variations of loops, if they have the numbers (loop 01, loop 02, etc) just like “takes”, after adding in arrangement view. Just click to 2 little arrows at hi left corner of region and choose one
This is an amazing series. Thanks so much! I am trying to build this song along with you but got to the part where you were adding snare and I don't have that sound. I have downloaded all the available sounds that come with Logic Pro X. I am on 10.8.1. Are you using additional sound packs?
For some reason when I duplicate the loop and try to edit using the piano roll, it doesn't work... Does this tool changes depending on the version I'm using?
If the track is playing and you are previewing loops from the browser, does logic adjust the tempo of the loop to be in sync with the project? If so, does it only work with Apple Loops or also your own loops from sound packs? Thanks!
this is super. . . one question tho -- when I go to transpose an audio track the only options I see in the region inspector are for octaves (12, 24, etc) not semitones like your video shows. It won't let me type anything in either. Any idea what I'm missing? thanks. . .
What are your thoughts on upgrading system software. Right now I am using Mojave but in order to upgrade my logic pro and many of my daws I have to upgrade to Catalina. Yours thoughts?
I opened a drummer track with the setting of 88 - 3/4 - Dmin. Then opened the Apple Loops and selected the Mason Intro. I dragged it into an empty track and, when I played it, it did not sound the same as it did in the Loops section. It became, um, 'busier'. I tried to adjust it using the drum adjustment area, but could not fix it. Could you give me a hand? Thanks.
Ah yes! If you drag and drop a drummer lop onto another drummer track it may impart the settings from the drummer track. Whereas if you drop a drummer loop onto a new track, it will automatically assign the settings from the loop browser. Which could be a completely different instrument setting, FX, etc. Happy to hear you figured it out.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy I dropped and dragged the Apple Loop Intro track THEN changed the time signature and it all fell in line. Deleted the original track Logic Pro gave me, added Verse/Chorus/Bridge/Outro, tweaked them with the Magic Golden Globe and all was good. No MIDI needed after all. I've read a number of messages on the boards about how there are no 3/4 Apple Loops. There are if you do it this way! Off to watch more of your vids.
Look up chord progressions with no music theory. Or my recent 10.7.5 midi FX chord video. These are both videos that might help out with that. Or my music theory tutorials.
All of my music is made of loops and audio samples. A tweak here...a tweak there...transpose, and I have full track. And it's all original. So when people say "that's cha-cheating" I say, whatever....my royalties statements say "cha-ching."
@@margheritaibbalif9249 it's never wrong to use only loops. I have a wind synthesizer that I can convert from flute to trumpet to saxophone, and it sounds like the actual instrument. What's a sax, flute or trumpet player going to say to me.....that's cheating.... that's wrong? They can say what they want. I get it that they feel like they paid their dues on the traditional instrument, just like a music writer will feel like they wrote their songs the drawn out traditional way, but we live in a new day and age. Most people throw microwave popcorn in a microwave and that's that. If somebody wants to pour grease in a pot with popcorn kernels, they're free to do things the old way. Nothing wrong with that. Hello, Ive been Loving loving loving your tutorials. I have a question regarding dragging loops in from splice. Would they also change keys when drag and dropped into the project file ? or would those stay in their original key.
Love your tutorials. I have a question. ( and it's probably a stupid question). If I'm recording a song with real interments and my song is in the key of A, but I'm also using a chord progression ie A, D , E7, A, how do I make the loops follow that progression.
Looping will actually link the looped regions to the original region. So with MIDI if you change the original region the looped regions will also be changed. With repeating, it creates a separate copy of the region. So changing the original region, will not affect the loops.
Kind of. You'd have to know what the relative major or minor key of the mode. For example C major and A minor have the same notes, all white keys. D Dorian is all white keys. E phyrgian is all white keys. So you could substitute the major or minor key for a mode; however, the loops are not going to transpose to any modal key. In fact, there are very few modal loops as far as I can remember. You'd have to go into the Piano Roll and modify the MIDI loops to make them fit a modal key.
no one has touched on the topic of a poorly functioning sample browser yet, is there any way to make sample playback work as efficiently as it does in ableton, fl studio ?? Loops converted to untagged loops still work fine, but short one shots of drums or other sounds are drama. I miss the logic of such an efficient sound browser as it is in ableton or fl studio, it is very annoying when you sit down to do a beat and you have to dig through a lot of samples.
It converts loops into regions. It used to be called "convert loops to real copies", which basically takes each loop and makes it its own separate region.
Nice video. I always get e-mails that want me to purchase chord progressions. But I want to make music myself, no loops. No chord progression, nothing like that. Nevertheless it’s interesting how you produce music with loops. I’ve never done that … because I think that‘s not my music. Moreover I heard recently that one can‘t use all the laws in any case. You might get into troubles.
We will get to recording MIDI and building chord progressions soon enough! I think of loops as a tool to assist with song building. Adding a synth or percussion loop here or there within your own composition, I would still consider composing. Or I might find a really cool loop I like, and build a whole musical arrangement around it. You'll only copyright claimed for a loop if a song was published with an exposed portion of a loop in it - so I always recommend altering the loop in some way. But for a beginner tutorial like this, it's also about getting familiar with arrangement building.
As I want to make music that’s my my music and not that of someone else, I never use any loops or chord progressions from anyone else. But nevertheless I learned/heard a lot in this video that I can use well. So 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

Fantastic, thank you! LOL no matter how hard I try to stick with the tutorial, I always go off into my own song!
So obvious, and yet these details escaped my notice. Great video, great instruction and teaching -- thank you for this and the series overall.
This series is better than any paid course out there, thanks for sharing!! 🙂
Coming to Logic from Studio One, these vids have been a life saver. Not as stressful of a switch as a thought

Outside "untagged" loops will not change key unfortunately. So you have to use the transpose feature in the region inspector for that.
Excellent
There's a way to install the Loops on an external Hard drive?
