In the xy and ab pair, are these cardioid or omnidirectional mics?
Cardioid. For everything!
@@ConstantineMusicComposer ok, thanks! 🙏
Really loaded video! Very detailed and very helpful! I 'm a tru-noob to this so I need some really basic info...where is your output routed from the SE-02???
Glad you like the video. The output of the se-02 goes to the input of the audio interface. And then I treat that like a regular electric instrument (think electric guitar). That's what I do most of the times, unless I want to do something with MIDI. You'll need to use an adapter for the jack cable. But that's pretty much it.
Excellent comparisons. Thank you!
Excellent video, thank you for making this.
Thanks!
Contact mic on bass. Better than most di
Great detail! Thank you!
1:04 how did you get that sound from and what name is the plug sound i want to buy
It's all from the instrument. The clean sound goes to the stock logic amps. I don't remember which, but almost everything I used is stock amps
Genuinely helpful & straight to the point! & you covered things I didn't know I could do! Thank you so much
Glad it helped!
Thank you.
You are very welcome 🙂
Great video, thanks for posting
How do you change the color contrast of the control bar itself? Mine is dark grey with black letters and I have eye strain. Please help.
Thank you for the great experience anybody could help me with piece name place ?
Hi, thanks for the video. Is it possible to maximize the midi editor window with keys, without having to go with the mouse stretching? Regards 🙂
Hello. Thanks! Yes it is possible. Command + arrow keys. CMD + Up/Down arrow keys for vertical zoom CMD + Left/Right arrow keys for horizontal zoom. If you want a detailed video on various ways of zooming, I cover everything in this video: ua-cam.com/video/cCC5VlbB13s/v-deo.htmlsi=H4YSOoSPyWWGcDIR
@@ConstantineMusicComposer Nice! Thank you for the answer.
Hi Constantine. If you own a Minimoog (or Behringer copy), I think you'd have a hit video if you made one showing people how to adapt a Minimoog patch to the SE-02. Some of the controls on the Minimoog are different than the SE-02, and showing a way to adapt them would open the way for people to recreate the many Minimoog patches available online for the SE-02. Thanks for all your great tutorial videos!
Sadly, I do not own a minimoog (or behringer copy) yet. Hopefully, soon! When I get one though, I'll probably do a similar video tutorial series as I did with the se02. Glad you liked the tutorials. Thank you
One of the better VST Moogs would work too, actually. And the Behringer D is very inexpensive; )
This is really the best tutorial ever. Quick, Clean, Clear and Complete. Without this it would be so difficult to learn the SE-02 with the standard manual. 1000 times thanks.
The standard manual is probably one of the worst I have ever seen. Very glad you liked the series and it helped you. Thank you. All the best.
I know this is an old video, but do you still have any check or high hat patches for your SE - 02? I'd love to buy some.
Old? Just three years old! I'm afraid I have no hi-hat patches.
thank you, a lot of combinations, very informative
You are very welcome!
on my keyboard launch key, it only makes octave changes. how can i fix that?
Thanks, friend, for taking the trouble to demonstrate your set of options and encouraging critical listening. You are the human equivalent of open software 😊
Haha. That might be one of the best comments I ever got. Thank you
This is GOLD. Thank you very much.
amazing content, thank you!
Thank you!
What about eq'ing transients and the body? What uses does this have?
Excellent to the point demonstration.
Where does your pfp comes from ?
Cons of this vid: - Dont used the pedal (pedal noices) - No very high notes
What about the color correction? You have to include that on the cons.
Thanks great tutorial
Excellent. Completely helpful. Thank you guys.
De nada :)
This is perfect, thank you so much for creating this amazing informative resource!

thanks for the comparison between different settings!!

Do you always use the pads on your KM84s for overheads?
Not really. It depends on the genre and the player. I only use them if I have to.
This is exceptionally well done!
Thank you I learned a lot, I can try and apply in our house of worship
Glad I could be of help!
Many times you get a reflection from the bass and not the bass because there are iron bars from the sound board betwen the hammer and the mic. That makes a lot of diference in mic positioning. If the mic doesen't see every single hammer you will have a cluster of sounds and reflection sounds in the lower bass... The best option with less bass refletions is at 12:04. The worse would be 6:08 because it has the score stand in front (i'm glad you put it down after for this demosntration). Another position is in front of pianist wiht the same distance betwen mic and every single hammer. The side position alway puts away the bass hammer and puts in front the higher hammers. A pianist ears the hammer at an equal distance and so should the mics. You can only do that without reflections in the oposite side of the piano (facing the front of the pianist). Remember, distance to each hammer and visual contact between mic and EVERY hammer (if possible) is very important in close capture. You have to care for every hammer as if it's an instrument to mic, just like a musician do with every single note. If a mic doesn't "see" an hammer, you will not have the same sound result from that string. It may sound picky but artists put a lot of efort in every single note, so there shouldn't be an iron bar betewen an hammer and a mic.
Thanks for the comment. There's a lot of interesting information on it. I like the approach. I do agree that the engineer should always approach it like a musician and not strictly as an engineer. Although, you are the rare case of musicians that know exactly what they want and can actually describe it too. That's why I encourage all musicians to learn at least the basics of production. The final result will be much better if they describe things like you do. Also, you mentioned some interesting things that I really want to try.
Hey man, thanks for the course. What exactly makes you think the graphics in Logic are terrible? I'm pretty satisfied with them, but I've never really used another DAW.
Hello! Thanks! I'm referring to the waveform. Everything else I like. The waveform though is really bad compared to other daw'. It's one of the things I think they need to improve on. I honestly think that other daw' display waveforms better. Other than that, I'm happy with logic!
Fantastic video. I’ve been trying to figure a different techniques on how to record my piano from home in my bedroom. My sound set up is a Soundcraft Signature 12MTK, and I use a DBX286S with a shure sm57 dynamic microphone, when doing videos, or vocal recordings for podcasts. When I want to record my piano, I invested in 2 berenger xm8500 microphones. Would these 2 types of microphones be OK to use, and what is your best suggestion or advice to record this type of piano, and where to place the microphones? The piano I have is a Kawaii K500 upright piano
First of all, thank you. Second, I have no experience with Behringer products (Other than their synths). Out of curiosity, why did you invest in getting the same dynamic mic twice? Why not one, and then a stereo matched condenser pair? You can definitely experiment with those for recording though. I wouldn’t make any suggestions on how to record you piano, as I do not know what the room looks like. All I can say is to move it away from the wall, and try all the techniques I am demonstrating at the video. And then find the one that sounds good and experiment further with various distances.
@@ConstantineMusicComposer i’m not sure, I just never considered doing it with a stereo pair. I’ve had these for a while anyway. My other microphone I have is an audio technica condenser microphone, which ran around $100 at the time. Then I have a Shure sm57 dynamic microphone, which at the time also was around $100.
@@TheTechPianoPlayerKid in my humble opinion, a piano should always be in stereo. A mono recording is not doing it justice. Experiment with different positions. Don't be fussed about the mics at the moment. And try to move the piano away from the wall too.
@@ConstantineMusicComposer Will do. Thanks so much for your advice and suggestions.
great video
excellent tutorial.
Thanks :)
thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Great song! This got me subscribed.
Haha. Thanks!
Any idea why I wouldn’t have the 9 button light up when pressing note and gate together? Having trouble clearing sequences.
Faulty unit? I hope not, but if you are following my steps and it doesn't work, you'll have to look into it.
Thanks- I realized I was on an older firmware (bought the unit used). All working now!
WONDERFUL!
Thanks!
Can you please tell me how you connected the SE to the interface? Thanks
Using a 3.5mm jack with an adapter to turn it into a 1/4. From the output of the se-o2, to the input of the audio interface. Treat it like a regular instrument.
Thanks
Anytime!
💯💯💯
Hey man. So at the point where you said that when you mute the kick track...mine doesn't mute. Any help?
Hello. You probably missed a step somewhere. Checklist. 1. Send the kick to a bus and set the amount to unity. 2. Set the kick channel to pre-fader 3. Set the bus to 'no output' 4. Set the sidechain for the bass channel to the kick channel on the track spacer. Hope this helps. If not, try and follow the video step by step. I don't see any other reason why it wouldn't work on your end.
What do you mean by unity? Is that 0?@@ConstantineMusicComposer
I do these steps but when I mute the kick track. it still mutes aux bus.@@ConstantineMusicComposer
@@blasher4 Unity or unity gain is when the audio that passes through your gear (Or plug-in in this case) and the output level is same as if the gear (Or Plug-in) is not on the signal path. Same input and output level. Think about it as one in, one out. By saying, put it on unity gain, that would be to bring your bus at 0dB. As for the rest, I do not know what you might be doing differently from what I do on the video. There must be something that is missing because if you do it exactly as I am, then you should get the same results.
I know this video is old, but could you please state what model those mic stands are? I am assuming they are also K&M like your lower stands? Great video! Thanks.
Old? It's only three years old! Yes, everything in the video is K&M.
How did you connect the roland se 02 to the scarlett?
From the output of the se02, which is a mini jack, to an adapter to make it a 1/4 jack, and then you simply plug that one to the scarlett input. So treat it like a normal instrument. Ger the right levels and all.
I used a jack 3.5 to 6.3 trs cable but that didnt work. Dont know why I cant hear the roland se02 in my headphones @@ConstantineMusicComposer
Try other cables and adapters too. Might be that. Worst case scenario, you might have a faulty unit. But you need to rule out everything else first.
Thank you!
