Excellent commentary and use of the maps. It makes it so much easier to see the actual troop movements all at the same time and understanding how the battle flowed from one end of the Wheatfield to the other end.

I never really knew the significance of the Wheatfield at Gettysburg. Of course I have heard of it, but I never knew the story. Big thanks. Can't wait for Part 3
I just watched all three parts of this magnificent and clear presentation - recommended that all who are studying The Wheatfield do so, also! Subscribed! ❤️ Watch these first, and then also check out the wonderful battlefield walks with the GNMP’s Rangers as a supplement! Love the Rangers, but to really understand the wherefore and why of the Meat-Grinder that was The Wheatfield, THESE videos have to be your first choice! 👏❤️👍
Outstanding! I do feel like it wasn't finished though. I wanted to see the results of Wofford's advance and the lines in the Wheatfield at the end of the day. Also I have read a few Army of Potomac accounts that indicated that Caldwell's division didn't perform well that day, and that men from the unit were fanning out in confusion away from the field in large numbers. Did you see any evidence of that when researching the battle? Regardless though, this was the best description of the Wheatfield action that I've seen yet. Great job.
Scot, thanks for the compliment, and yes the narrative is not complete. This video is part TWO, and the concluding chapter, part THREE is in production. It is scheduled to be released in early November. This final segment of the WF story will pick up where part two ended, showing the Confederates pushing the Union forces back out of the WF to the east. Subsequently the Union will eventually push the Rebels out again, back to the west. The day will end with the field a no man’s land with the two sides on opposites sides overlooking the carnage. Stay tuned.
Good question! The "details" of the movements and actions of the infantry units and artillery batteries have been analyzed and documented over the over the past 159+ years by many hundreds of authors. Within months after the battle the officers of both Union and Confederate units filed official military reports of the 3-day action, thousands of pages. Then the veterans themselves wrote hundreds of additional pages of books, articles and letters of their own. Late 19th Century and then 20th Century authors added more to the story, combing thru this massive amount of documentation, creating battle narratives and maps. This video and the entire series on this UA-cam channel has been derived from these publications. There is a suggested reading list at the end of each video. Hope this helps. I wish the picture was clearer. My g-g-grandpa's regiment is not mentioned in the commentary and I would like to see where it was, but when I enlarge the image it gets blurred.
@@gettysburg-fullyanimated He was in the 64th NY and was captured. He was exchanged at New Year's, but was later captured again at Petersburg, but managed to escape. The family used to tease him saying, "SOME people have sense enough to run!"
Dorthy, Not sure why you would have an issue trying to find the 64NY regiment in the UA-cam video. They were part of Brooke's brigade that charged across the Wheatfield and advanced all the way to the west edge of Rose's Woods. They pushed back Semme's brigade until they, in turn, were forced to retreat back thru the Wheatfield. They are clearly labelled through out, but perhaps you have a very small screen. Independent from UA-cam, if you log on to the associated website, GettysburgAnimated.com, and register to use the actual APP, you will be able to search on the "64NY" and go to anytime on the BF to see where they are at any time. And, also be able to "zoom in" very close - something you can not really do with the video. Keep in mind they did not arrive on the BF until very late on Day 1.
Wow
This research is a timeless blessing to our own and to future generations of Americans.
You have to work with or for a military academy...I mean wow, the Wheatfield? This is amazing. Well done, beautifully narrated.
The detailed explanations in your videos give me a much better understanding of the second day's fighting. I appreciate it very much.

@@gettysburg-fullyanimatedI find your “Replaying” much annoying. Companies that retired are now back to where they started?
I really liked this video, very well done.

How do we have this much detailed information?

Thanks for the compliment. Part 3 of the Wheatfield is coming in early to mid-November.
By far the craziest blood and guts site on the battlefield.

Dorthy, thanks for your comment. In what regiment did your g-g-grandpa fight? perhaps I can help you find the regiment?

Should re-examine your assessment of Kershaw’s right in and about the Stony Hill.
The NPS needs to clear the area of the Stony Hill. That would help in understanding what actually happened.
This series of videos keeps breaking up into lines of gibberish altho the audio remains !?!?!?
Sorry to hear you are having issues with the video. This is the first report of a "video quality" problem in over 13,000 viewers.
@@gettysburg-fullyanimated I, too, do not understand why this happens. I've experiences it before but rarely. I'm using the CHROME browser.
the union brigade commanders all had excellent situational awareness here
except of course Sweitzer lol
