Kevin cluelessness is clearly typical children nervousness/stage fright. His call finally reached his favourite show. But the moment he had to speak to the show's mc he got nervous because the whole Ireland is watching. Happened to me too when I was 12 when I called a phone call quiz show that pretty popular back in the 90s. The show was very popular and it's really hard to reach. I kept trying when suddenly I got connected. Then I screw up big time when I start to stutter and blurting words. I close the phone before I can even answer the question (I knew the answer!) just because I can't handle it anymore.

We had a similar show in my country when I was young. The human presenter, Jason and his friend, a weird looking puppet called Thingee introduced cartoons, performed skits, staged games for the studio audience and competitions for home viewers. It was a TV variety show for kids and would be no more than a minor footnote in childrens TV history if not for the infamous final episode.
That day school children across the country, myself included, hurried home to watch, though nobody knew this would be the final episode. The show started normally with Jason and Thingee (the puppet) engaging in some banter followed by some cartoon segments. All seemed well.
But behind the scenes some tension had been growing between Jason and higher-ups in the company. It's not clear exactly what set Jason off, the rumors range from drug use to being fired that day. But regardless of why in the latter half of the show Jason had an unhinged freak out on live TV. He attacked co-host Thingee ripping the puppets head off and waving it at the cameras while ranting about the production company, the TV station and media in general.
The shock of the incident meant that it was some time before production staff snapped out of it and cut to a cartoon segment before ending the show early due to "Technical difficulties".
Jason was immediately terminated from the show and while he has made other TV appearances, these days he's got a fairly good career in radio broadcasting instead. Thingee was never seen again.

@@DoctorHomicide The footage of this incident is generally considered lost media but there has been speculation for many years that there is a copy deep in the archives of TVNZ, our national broadcaster. They have neither confirmed or denied this and refuse to admit this meltdown ever occured. Because the show aired in the pre-internet dark ages the only copies out in the wild so to speak would have to come from people who taped the show on a VCR the day it aired. The show was called Son of a Gunn and I did manage to find a compilation someone uploaded to YT which shows Thingee, the weird puppet thing.

I was volunteering at a tv station in a Canadian city around Christmas time and the did this show where kids could call in to talk w/ Santa. This elderly lady called in pretending to be a five y/o girl and halfway through the call she "runs to get her brother" (cue shuffling on the spot sounds) then she gets back on the phone doing an even feebler impression of a little boy. Then ten minutes later a teenaged boy calls pretending to be a little kid, all the while I have my finger on the sound board ready to mute the call at any second. But they didn't say anything untoward but trust me, I'm never doing live shows again. Great content Qxir I really enjoy your Televised Eireann series.
