I mean, even when we were in school and needed to memorize a song, teachers would give you at least a week to learn it. Learning something on set 5 min before a shoot... Not realistic at all.
Exactly I was in a community theater production of Oliver. I am American and for those of you that don’t know Oliver takes place in Victorian England. So we would work on our accent in the beginning of every rehearsal for the first few weeks or so. Also if they are advertising for an Australian brand in Australia wouldn’t they hire Australian models?
Singers normally don't have to sing every genre or a preselected theme yet if they are on American Idol they do. TThat's how reality shows work. This show was toxic for a myriad of reasons but of course it's going to be amped up because it is a competition.
Tiffany from cycle 4 hit it right on the nail when she called Tyra out on her Antics.

Technically, that’s a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. An employer must provide reasonable accommodations so that their employee can perform the job! I’m not a lawyer, but I am a nurse who works with special needs kids.
They are still a thing.
@@avonee1976 the contracts for these types of contestant shows have the contestants set up as hired “contractors” basically and not employees and somehow that gets around their “employee” rights, unfortunately. You also sign something agreeing that the show can depict you in any way that it wants. They’re terrifying contracts. I’ve signed two of them 😬😂

Disabilities are NOT a “shortcoming” or something you can work through. Brain cells don’t repair themselves and she tried to do it despite what she can’t control. They were all about tokenizing Nyle, but the second disability is inconvenient…
I hate how they always say the "just pull through it, just overcome it" to things that are just not so thing you can change and are not excuses?
@@MistySophie It's like they have no understanding how exhausting a life long injury can be. She has to work harder than any other model there (to our knowledge) and they just blow it off like it's nothing.
I mean disabilities are something you can work through, because people with disabilities do work through them. They may require additional aid in order to do so, which is what this chick clearly needed, or they may find a solution on their own. But the majority of physically or mentally disabled people are not laying in a vegetive state because they cant do anything and cant find a work around.
@@owenleal I see your point and I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I do think the intention behind the judges advising her to ‘work through’ her disability was dismissive and judgmental instead of inspiring or supportive. If she has no short term memory she has no short term memory. She can’t really force herself to work past not having it - she could only try to find a different alternative, but in this instance, that’s really not her responsibility and it was unfair of them to tell her it was.
To me their “advice” was about as helpful as telling a model with a serious peanut allergy that she has to find a way to do a Jif commercial eating a PB&J. Not only does the model have no control over her allergy, she also has little to no control over the shoot itself since she’s not paying for it - so therefore its really production’s job to provide a workable alternative.
Or at least that’s how I read the situation from these clips. Sorry if that didn’t make sense.

Having a debilitating disability does not make anyone lazy. There are people who struggle every day to overcome their difficulties and never achieve it. Don't call someone lazy just because you don't see results, because you're probably missing how much effort they are putting in.
I love how Jay has gone around doing interviews trying to distance himself from the horror of this show but he was CLEARLY a main player.

This show just does not care about people with disabilities period. They made a legally blind girl do a complicated runway IN THE DARK with NO REHEARSAL, they made a deaf man do a photoshoot in the dark so he couldn't receive any directions, they refuse to accomedate a contestant with a traumatic brain injury... It's disgusting. I have problems with my memory due to trauma so my heart really goes out to Brittany. I constantly have to remind people at work of my memory problems and to remind them to have compassion because it's not that I'm not listening during trainings, it's that my brain has literal problems that make remembering difficult, especially if it's something that I don't have to do every day. Edit: I also remember them eliminating an autistic girl because she had "issues communicating" or something. This show is so ableist and gross!
I remember something messed up that they did to that girl with Autisim/Aspergers.
There was an episode on season 9, where they filmed a music video for Enrique Ingelsias and they literally exhausted every model by overworking them for hours! They didn't have food or water readily available, and she ended up passing out because she was dehydrated and exhausted.. And they blamed HER! They told her that she needed to speak up and say something if something was wrong.
And it was all for nothing, because if you look up the music video they literally cut out all the scenes with the models. Maybe so that Enrique Ingelsias team wouldn't get in trouble because of what happened.

And they always say “this is the industry” but the industry has gotten WAY better and more accessible. because that’s the humane and right thing to do. They had the potential to be on the forefront of that by having this diverse cast, but they just made it worse. Molly Burke is a blind youtuber, and she walked a fashion show for Tommy Hilfiger I think and they gave her great accommodations: including using her guide dog and sited guide, practicing her runway multiple times, and getting clearer directions than “go here, go there”. These people are just awful and rude

They made a girl who confided in them that she was sexually assaulted as a child & afraid of men as a result do a commercial where she was supposed to let a male model kiss her.. they did a photo shoot where a model became hypothermic from intentionally being put in freezing cold water..
I'm on the autism spectrum and it effects my short term working memory. When someone is disabled, for whatever reason, accommodations NEED to be offered for the person. Not only did Jay and the judges lack empathy, their behavior is discrimination.
Yeah even if they don’t care, they legally have to provide accommodations.

Attention deficit disorder, auditory processing disorder, dyslexic, and a side of crippling social anxiety that’s my cocktail 🍸 accommodations out of high school are almost impossible to get. The struggle I have in college is infuriating because of people like Jay and the other judges. It doesn’t matter to them what disability you have they just want you to work harder. You know because it’s easy for them so it is just as easy for us right? BullSh!t

I feel like Jay and the judges just don't realize how debilitating and frustrating things like memory loss can be, but that's no excuse for not giving Brittany accommodations. I have days where I have major brain fog and no matter how hard I try, I literally can't put two cohesive thoughts together. Imagine you were doing yoga with no flexibility, and the instructor came along and told you that it was your fault you couldn't touch your toes because you had emotional baggage.
Anyway, I think Brittany actually had one of the best Aussie accents of the bunch, especially considering what she was going through.
She doesn't have a memory loss. They showed a number of occasions where it's obvious that she doesn't suffer from anything like that. She just can't admit that she just forgot the lines. And, yes the time for remembering the lines might be short, but it's the same for the other girls so she should not be given special treatment based on lie
I don’t think that’s fair. I have a hard time remembering things people tell me, but can remember other things. I also have short term memory loss. You can remember some things but not others.
@@vanyastaleva415 You can't speak for her personal experience though, you're not in her head. Like Cassidy's reply says, with memory loss sometimes you can remember things, sometimes you can't. And some days are better than others! Last week I had a day where my brain fog was so bad it took ten tries to spell a simple word. Other days, I have no issues at all.
And tbh if she was lying... who cares? The "challenge" was just to embarrass them anyway.

She only said she struggles a little bit with short term memory, which implies that it’s not nearly as absolute as you are trying to make out. Saying well she can remember some things, is not evidence that she doesn’t struggle in general. All she is saying is that it takes her longer to memorize something, not that she can’t do it at all.

i honestly think that's the only way people would forgive her, if she created an episode with every single contestant present, apologizing and addressing all the abuse and trauma they endured
I watched all these seasons multiple times when I was young, and it can put the viewer in a negative mindset. Like I was always rolling my eyes at the models, thinking everything was an excuse. When I got older, I started to see the patterns and how manipulative it was. Especially, when I started reading about how many people became severely depressed after appearing on reality shows.
people kept wondering and crying ''well if it was that abusive, why didn't models leave the show? they aren't kids!'' but the truth is, they were manipulated the same way audience was for so many years until now
@@ClaudetteVioletta yeah definitely - the set up is that the judges are utmost authority. The models' job is to get their approval. They were isolated and told this story, so it's pretty understandable
@@ClaudetteVioletta if I wanted to enter a non-traditional career and the opportunity was presented to me as simple as: “you can be X, all you have to do is win this contest on TV” I would do it - especially in the early 2000s when reality TV was in its infancy and most people didn’t know any better. I really can’t blame them for chasing a passion.

A TBI (traumatic brain injury) has an very substantial effect on a person, no matter the severity. She has had to adapt a lot, no doubt. I would like to hear Tyra try to affect an Aussie accent on short notice as well as Brittany did (I think hers was among the best accents)
They really put Brittany and Jael through so much this season (RIP Jael). Jael had to do the photo shoot about death right after her friend overdosed, they gave Brittany a literal weave that put her in so much pain and damaged her scalp, then refused to give Brittany proper accommodations for her traumatic brain injury during this commercial shoot 🙄
I just realised that she would have scars/scar tissue from her accident, which probably would have made the weave even more painful!

Please make that compilation! I think it will show a very disturbing pattern in Tyra’s behaviour where she uses that soft tone of voice to make the girls open up about something so intimate and vulnerable only to shove them down afterwards when they are put in the bottom 2 because of it.

God I used to watch this show religiously when I was younger and now it's so hard to watch. This one hit home because my mum has short term memory issues from brain surgery. Mr Jay and ANTM are being ableist and it is NOT okay. And it's more than alright to get emotional when you're being told to persevere and overcome something that you physically can't. Memory issues are a disability and you should accommodate for that.
Just imagining them asking a model in a wheelchair to just be tough and pull through being asked to stand up. UGH
Tyra would literally tell a paraplegic model in a basketball photoshoot that fashion doesn't care she can't dunk, figure it out.
Short term memory loss is a medical condition. In any real job situation this would be a huge lawsuit

I was today years old when I realized that Sutan and Raja were the same person… cuz I met Raja out of drag at a pride event in Long Beach several years back (after top model, before Drag Race) but knew she performed at VIP Riverside… I think she was hitting on me at the bar and I completely ignored her because I didn’t recognized her!!!

The fact that Mr. Jay says “emotional damage” and “baggage” proves that he didn’t believe her when she said she was injured and her memory was actually effected.
People don't take short term memory loss seriously. I have diagnosed short term memory loss myself, and when I mention that I get "oh, I can be forgetful too!" or "Everyone forgets!" and it is frustrating. People don't think that it is a big deal unfortunately. But when you have it, it does affect you every day.
They’re treating her like she’s just nervous. It’s not only a disability like dyslexia that LEGALLY REQUIRES accommodations, but also very traumatic. I was in a car accident when I was 7 years old that still affects me 18 years later, regardless of a lifetime of therapy and treatment. Not only do I still have the physical trauma to my spine but I can’t drive because of PTSD. I’m just imagining being on a show like that, being forced to drive, I would be having a panic attack. I’m so proud of her for getting through that. This show is awful.
It’s another sad example of how misunderstood disabilities are in the mainstream world, especially when it comes to the “making money” thing that modeling has. Companies find excuses to work around not hiring disabled people because it’s “cutting corners” around costs for accommodations. People also don’t understand that injury and trauma can last forever in so many forms. One person can be in the same accident as another and one could end up with memory loss, the other could end up with chronic pain for life, and another could be paralyzed. The lack of understanding and representation of people with disabilities (acquired or not) being themselves without stigma is unfortunately not common at all. I’m really sorry for what you’ve gone through, I can only imagine the toll that your trauma (both physical and mental) has taken on your life. Sometimes there is the nice movie-type “overcoming obstacles” ending, but in most cases it’s much slower than that, and in a lot of cases, there might not be a recovery, and this episode of ANTM reinforces that it’s the victim’s fault for not being able to overcome her disability. Anyways I hope this comment finds you well and that you’re having a good day/night!

I won't comment on the rest because it makes me extremely angry, so I'll just say about the accent thing:
When actors have to do a different accent for a role, they get dialect coaching. It could take them weeks to learn how to perfect a new accent, and still not all actors can do it. And they are professionals who have already trained their voice. Asking amateur American models to do an Australian accent for a commercial on the spot is just ridiculous. And unfortunately, it's not the only thing about this show that's ridiculous...
Fully second this. I've worked as a radio voice talent and there are times when an accent is called for and we DON'T fake it. It's way too obvious. If we don't have someone in-house who can do it (or who has that accent naturally) we try to find someone else from the company who can. Same with speaking other languages - if you're mostly ok at it, well still try to find someone who can absolutely nail it. If they're set on the specific talent, then we learn properly how to do it. No half measures.
This wouldn't fly in the real world, and yet they're acting like this is how the "real world" is just to humiliate and degrade these girls, and I hate it here.
And that's how there are so many Non-American actors and actresses who can put American accent pretty well because they have dialect coach. Tyra didn't even put a dialect coach for them or at least make them learn Aussie accent for a week with dialect coach. She thinks everything needs to be rocket science in the show.

If they can’t sympathize with somebody who’s been injured in a car accident then I don’t know what’s serious enough for these judges
I do think that it’s true that the fashion industry doesn’t really have sympathy for these kinds of situations (at least back when this was filmed), but that doesn’t make it ok. They kept saying “find a way to make it work for you” but if that were the case, she wouldn’t have been given the script the DAY OF the shoot. They would’ve given it to her days prior so that she could learn it properly. And then to throw an accent on top of that is just setting her up for failure.
Someone mentioned Brittany was able to memorize lines earlier in the season and it seemed like she was using it as an excuse this time. But it’s very likely that having to do an unfamiliar accent on top of memorizing lines put more stress on her brain. I have memory issues with adhd and one change can turn something I usually have no problem doing into a challenge. I felt hurt listening to the judges’ responses because I know how it feels to be criticized about something I have no control over.
I think it's the accents change. If you speak in one consistent accent/language your whole life, it's easier to get your brain do memorize the thing in the one you're been speaking longer than an unfamilar one.
she explains in her interview with oliver twixt that her short term memory, which lasts for 15-30 seconds. in the acting challenge, she was able to memorize the script because her working memory was fine. the commercial was a bigger struggle because she had less time with the script and she wasnt able to retain whatever she had to read on the cue card. contestants and even viewers just. dont know how memory works and will think short term memory = anything under a day. i just wish people would do research on this kind of thing before hating on people with mental disabilities. like, trust us, people, we're more frustrated over our memory issues than you are!!!!
Considering how hard it is for women and other people assigned female at birth to get diagnosed with ADHD (and other neurodivergent traits such as autism) I find it bizarre in general to tear any of the women down for struggling with both a script and a fake accent. It's bizarre to demand pretty advanced acting skills and perfect short term memory from these young women, any of which could have ADHD and not know it.

Man I have ADHD too and have voiced a lot of radio ads and I absolutely struggle with this - even with scripts that I WROTE. I guarantee the accent thing made it so much worse for her.
I felt every single emotion watching her there because I know sometimes when my brain lets me down it can compound and be so much more than frustrating. It feels like a personal insult, it's debilitating, it feels like abject failure because it's something you just literally can't control. And it's an issue that most other people don't have and don't understand, as we've witnessed with the feedback on the show.
My heart hurts for her. Compassion goes a long, long way. Even just saying "I'm so sorry that happened to you, is there anything we can do to help?". I know that's a lot of ask of this show though.
One thing that stands out to me is the judges keep saying to develop a strategy, learn how to work around your "shortcomings"...but she was never informed in advance of this assignment to have time for her to develop a strategy........................................ 🤔
I am not sure how ADA affects these women, because elimination to me is a form of firing. If she was fired for this, I wonder if she could sue.
That line really means "we can do whatever we want to you and hide behind our profession.". This sentiment leads to abuse plain and simple. Casting couch, economic exploitation, and on and on. It's pretty terrifying that not only do the contestants see it work but the giant viewing population of kids and teens do too.
Did y'all notice that the model who was second in shooting the commercial had no cue cards...when she was struggling. Everyone else who struggled had them. Another thing is that when they showed her video they didn't cut off the part when she laughed/chuckled. I feel like they wanted to get rid of her.
I've shot promos before and it's NEVER done in one full take like that. It's always broken up into parts that they edit together bc that's a LOT to memorise on the spot (also I usually got the script weeks before too) and perform for the camera

1. I stand with Brittany. You're right Jessica. It's not just baggage or shortcomings. It's how her brain functions after trauma. After I had COVID I have so much memory loss and getting back into acting has been so hard.

I've heard a few people say their memory was affected by covid. Medical conditions aren't shortcomings...
I'm no expert but I find it very hard to believe that anyone in the real working world would say Brittany is "defected". Absolutely disgusting behavior from the judges and Mr. Jay in this episode
Got in a cycling accident where I bruised my pelvic bone due to the handlebar hitting my pelvis. I've been dealing with chronic pain for years, so I didn't know until about three months later. My manager at my old job said that I "seemed fine", commented that I wasn't trying hard enough to find a solution, accused me of relying on sick leave. I eventually had to quit my job, robbing me off any government benefits.
The theory about Tyra’s voice and exploiting these girls trauma is true. She even invited some of them to her show to talk about some of their stuff
I was hit by a car when I was 15 luckily I only fractured both of my ankles and had no injury to my head but it was still very traumatic and had to learn to walk again I spent my 16th birthday with boots on both my feet. These judges are heartless and have no sympathy for what she must struggle with daily.
I don’t know about other countries but in the UK, if your employer doesn’t make reasonable adjustments for an employee who has any kind of disability or health issue, it counts as discrimination under the law. This was incredibly wrong
The US has the ADA (Americans with Disability Act).
Many states have laws that say employers can fire employees for any reason, so...these discrimination laws don't usually mean much especially since most people, especially disabled people (like me) are too poor to afford effective legal services.

@@barbieblues7639 That's awful. The UK isn't great for disabled people, but in my experience, if you're apart of a union, they usual don't get away with it. I had to have a lot of time of from work due to a disability and I was part of a union that supported their workers in any kind of dispute and I didn't get in any trouble for my time of due to this. Unions usually cost about £10 a month but it's so worth it if you can afford it over here because it usually never even gets to legal proceedings with a union backing you up. Again this is just my experience and the union I was part of was amazing, but no doubt, other people haven't been so lucky.
@@barbieblues7639 I live in Maryland where you can be fired for whatever reason they want. I have multiple illnesses and was let go from a job in 2019 for my medical issues, despite the existence of the ADA. It ended up being a blessing in disguise because I had been applying/fighting for SSDI/SSI for 3 years total and the paper trail left from that employer helped me win my case. I had a disability attorney who didn't get paid unless I won my case, and fees were taken out from the total settlement. What is this obsession with non-disabled people being afraid to use the word 'disabled'? Brittany has a literal disability. A TBI is a disability, just like fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy, or spina bifida to name very few. Disabled is not a bad word, and most workplaces are in fact required to adhere to certain laws pertaining to helping the disabled person perform the job they're doing.
People were not so understanding about disabilities back in the day. Even today it’s had to bring up, it was worse then.
I think that in this case it is even worse than that.
At first they probably didn't even care enough to take it seriously, to consider it an "actual disability" and then when they realized that they f-ed up, they gaslighted her and pretended that it wasn't a thing. Because if they called it for what it was, a disability, then they would have looked like monsters that didn't accomodate for her how they should have done. So they shifted the blame on her.
Calling it as what it is would have brought the need to take it seriously and would have shown how incredibly unprofessional and unprepared they were.
And they knew it.

Ancient Mesopotamians knew abou it. Modern rehabiliation programs are around from the 1950s and public awareness grew wide and spread since the 1970s in the US. After the new protocols created in the 1990s there is no excuse for such a production to not be able to find some kind of medical professionist to advice them on how to proceed. This girl told them multiple times, even allegedely during her very first interview. They had plenty of time to do something about it, they simply lacked careness.

I’mnot saying their lack of knowledge means that they don’t litterally understand, no I’m saying that 20 years ago peole with disabillities weren’t met with people willing to make space for them, so of course people with disabillities would find other ways to explain their requirements other than saying that they have a disability. I feel so bad for Brittany here. While I wasn't in a car accident, several years ago I did suffer a nasty drug overdose. Thankfully, the people I was with were able to bring me back, and while my organs and bodily functions are normal (there are reports where people who were without oxygen for as long as I was suffered organ failure), my memory is shot. There are significant portions of my life that are just blank, and I have difficulty retaining information. I'm supremely grateful that this is the only lasting damage from that incident. Sometimes people get annoyed with me when I can't remember things, but I always tell them "How do you think I feel, not being able to remember my own life?" For this show to unfairly judge and criticize someone who went through a horrific accident as Brittany did (as well as Jael with her own struggles), it's just disgusting and shows how out of touch and heartless they are.
As I see it, fashion is an art form. Art is meant to evoke emotions, to make people feel something. Cutting out compassion and sympathy is something that deprives fashion of one of its many beautiful facets.
They always say, that 'just being pretty is not enough' and that they want to promote inclusivity, but they sure aren't acting like they mean it.
Just because it isn't visible doesn't mean it isn't a disability that deserves respect and acknowledgment period.
PS: Defect is extremely offensive with any kind of anything humans don't have defects.
definatly BUT if she can`t do the thing she don`t belong there. so with everything else. let`s say you are a dancer and want to dance in a team but your injury doesn`t let your body function...you just can`t do that. but you can dance for fun for example or some other team where are lower expetations.

I have had memory loss before. It sucks because people tend to not believe me but it was terrifying. I couldn't retain information. I still have some problems but stress makes it worse. I can't even imagine how this girl must feel but I understand it. I hope you're doing well and never forget that your memories are never gone. It's a defense mechanism to protect you from further trauma. I truly wish you the best.

“Fashion has no sympathy” i learnt this as a fashion student. The fashion industry could be very enjoyable and creative or nasty 🤢 and brutal with such rude snobbish arrogant perfection unrealistic individuals. My experience as a fashion student exposed me to this. Long story short I regret wasting a few years of my life at that useless fashion institute. I had options I didn’t know existed. I could have learn a lot with self learning and research.
as an Australian I have only seen like one or two professional actors do the Aussie accent properly. Usually they’re British too. I can’t think of an American who has done a good Aussie accent.
A good side by side comparison is actually the video game FFXIII where they have Vanille who was voiced by a local girl from Melbourne and Fang who was voiced by an American. Such a great comparison of what our true accents sound like vs. what everyone else thinks we sound like.
That said the accents vary across the country. As you get up north it’s more thick and broad. You get that more ‘classic’ accent but even then it sounds different to this too.

British type accents are closer sounding to Aussie and Kiwi ones. I think Americans have a hard time doing accents for some reason. The standard American accent is really flat so it feels weird to us to try and sound so different. I actually have headmates who have other accents including Australian and Kiwi and yet I still couldn't ever mimic any of them for my life 😂

So a cool thing I found out about our accent is there is 3 types: broad, casual, and cultured, and we're the only country in the world where everyone can use all three and it's homogeneous across the country. We don't have a difference like texis and Brooklyn. When my linguistics teach was doing the Australian section of the course he which between the three and we responded in kind without realising until he told us about it.

I remember that girl. They gave her a really bad weave in her hair that hurt her so much. I felt so bad for her. I can’t believe how much I liked this show when I was a kid. I did have opinions of how they treated the girl but, looking back on it years later I thought this show is CRAZY!!!!
LOL, that is exactly how I am feeling right now while binge watching Jessica's videos. 😂 Years ago I used to look forward to a new season of ANTM; I even got my mom into it and we would always look forward to watching them together. 💜 But looking back on all of them now and getting so much humor from Jessica I see how ridiculous all of these shows were and "Queen Tyra"😩 and the judges were so delusional. 🤢🤮
I’m always touched by the compassion you exemplify when you watch these episodes.
I was in a bike accident without a helmet and needed over 13 stitches in my head.. I dropped our of school shortly and could not focus or remember ever since, whereas I had a great memory and focus before. Before I would draw a portrait for 12 hours straight until it was done, after I can't focus for more than 2 minutes. Also my impulse control is terrible. My head was swollen three times the size for two weeks in the hospital and I nearly died of blood loss. It really is a tragic and real result of an accident.. A smart person made forgetful
As someone with a learning disability this is beyond upsetting and infuriating to watch. I’ve been spoken to like this my entire life, just last year my roll model teacher brought me to tears in her office saying that I don’t look disabled and I need to try harder. She said you are smart enough to do it just try harder put in more work. I got 3 hours of sleep every night for 3 months straight studying and memorizing the material and it still wasn’t enough them because I couldn’t spell it. I put all my other classes aside to focus on that one class still ended up with an F. Some people and sadly most people are just cruel and don’t care. “Your learning disability isn’t an excuse” those are the words of my childhood. It took me 27 years to finally stick up for myself and advocate for myself. People with disabilities of all forms can probably relate to this. It’s a never ending struggle.
I am so sorry you went through that. people definitely can be mean. take care of yourself because 3 hours of sleep I've heard can be bad for your health. I made the mistake of telling on my job application one time that I have slow processing speed so if you give me directions understand it ay take me a minute to process it and get started. went for the interview and the whole time she talked in a baby tone, asking me over and over would I be able to do it when one of the things they were asking about was signing myself in for work or putting blocks in the bin. needless to say, I did send a letter and said that they were really offensive in their attitude.I had a teacher who always assumed the class wasn't paying attention because they gave out directions really quickly so I wouldn't remember and ask, they always huffed dramatically. it made me feel awful. Case in point, I can relate to your story.

I believe I seriously screwed over my already chronically ill body getting through college (not to mention ADHD and autistic burnout) and that was with a lot of really supportive professors, a really good SAS counselor, and an excellent support system. But I was fighting a lot of trauma and learned behavior/mindset that had set in my whole life, especially 11 to 14 dealing with doctors and teachers/school officials who weren't nearly as supportive and didn't believe or understand my experience with undiagnosed chronic illness so bad I couldn't go to school regularly for three years, not to mention the ND burnout
I was in a car accident that caused me serious pain. I had bosses that wouldn't let up trying to get me to do heavy labor. I have permanent neck damage and they still wanted me to push carts and lift boxes at different jobs.

So I'm a special education teacher and what I hear is Britney saying she has struggles with working and short term memory due to a TBI (traumatic brain injury) which falls under ADA. On ANY job (modeling or otherwise) she is ENTITLED TO BY LAW reasonable work place accomidations. If she was required to memorize a script short notice an accomidation could look like her agency getting a copy of the script earlier than normal (like within 2 weeks or more of the shoot) or that she could have cue cards or a monitor. Those are things she is entitled to BY LAW. It is not a DEFECT or makes her less than. I hate the way they made her feel and on any actual job this would never fly.
I actually despise Jay in this episode…the way he was acting and talking about that girls TBI from a car accident (or rather talking _around_ her accident) had me livid! I don’t understand how anybody can treat anyone like that. How do people completely lack empathy and understanding?! Ridiculous! Same with the other judges! They all said horrible, ignorant things!
For those in the back, a disability is NOT a shortcoming, 👏 a flaw 👏 or a defect! It's dehumanising to me and everyone who has a disability to imply we are lesser than and that we need to conform

I was in Australia as a kid. (Dad worked there) it’s super easy to put on an Australian accent for me. But whenever I’ve heard someone from the states try it they sound either South African or English. There’s no way this is attainable without practice. Ridiculousness.

You should react to ANTM makeovers - see if they are more or less or a model after their changes. I’m convinced they gave certain girls makeovers to sabotage them

I got hit by a car when I was 15. I have short term memory issues as well, along with PTSD, an immense fear of driving (person that hit me was a new driver) and I have bouts of muscle spasms that just happen randomly. This just made me disgusted and emotional.

I don't recall the other situation, but it's sometimes the dog-piling. The accent, the lines (which aren't AT ALL natural), and Jay talking to her so long before the shoot. Sometimes I interrupt people because my memory can be Swiss cheese, and I'll forget something important if I don't interject. Then I'm told I'm rude.
I think they had longer time for the other one, and her working memory is fine. It’s only her short term memory that she struggles with. It’s basically har to get the information into her brain, but once it’s there it stays there.
Mr. Jay was rude. He called her issue that is a part of her life an emotional scar and baggage. It's same as telling someone with life long back issues that is trying to live their life to the fullest that when their back is acting up and hurt, that it's an emotional scar and baggage and they just need to get over it. This lady is trying to live her life as best as possible. It's just that Mr. Jay isn't gonna tell the truth and say that "this challenge requires people to have great short term memory while speaking in an accent none of the contestants knows". Saying the truth would get him in trouble, so he ends up saying stuff that means just get over it when he didn't have to say anything. Yes it's true that a lot of people need to just get over their issues 'cause they're not trying or that's the only way to move on. That doesn't count in this situation. It's a permanent issue for her that will be bad at some times and there's not cure for it. The only thing is to let her have a decent amount of time to remember the lines. She seems to be way past the "just get over it". She seems to have 'cause she's living her life to the fullest (as it seems since she's on a competition show) and was trying super hard to do this challenge. Her disability is preventing her from doing as well as others.

Wow, that must have been really awkward for at least the majority of the crew. I have a British accent and for someone to be tasked to do a fake British accent would piss me off, there’s a ton of beautiful Brits, get one of them to do it

They phrase it the way they do because they don't want to admit that Brittany is disabled and they just don't feel like providing accommodations.
Part of me is like... knowing you have short term memory issues, knowing this show usually has an element of "do a commercial, memorize lines," I'm not sure why Brittany would want to subject herself to this. But then again, back in the day (and this was like, 8 seasons in? I think?) the show really had a much better reputation. It doesn't seem unreasonable for Brittany to assume that some sort of accommodation can be made for her injury so that she has an equal chance as everyone else. Or at least that as fellow humans they'll empathize with her struggles.
Legally they had to provide accommodations, she could sue them for discrimination. That might be the only reason they didn’t eliminate her that week.
@@DiMagnolia not to be *that person* but you do have to do certain things, like tell the employer about the disability, and I think it has to be an employer. ANTM isn’t employing her, she’s on a game show essentially
Many people with disabilities are afraid to tell their future employers about it. This is for multiple reasons one because they might decide not to hire us because of the of them. Do because we have been taught to be ashamed of them are whole lives. Three because even if you do tower them about your disabilities they might not treat you the same way as they treat other employees. Lastly even if you do tell them they still might not give you the accommodations you need. This is because some may think that us having accommodations would be unfair to other employees. So we don’t know if Brittany told them about her memory loss or not. But either way the way they treated her was wrong.

I have been fired before for having to stay in the hospital for a long period of time without giving sufficient notice, as if I knew I was going to need to be hospitalized in advance, smh. I watch your videos since I came back from USA (I'm Brazilian). The same things happened to me while I was studying musical theatre there. They wouldn't teach me how to make an accent properly, they would just criticize me and tell me there was no place for me in musical theatre because I was Brazilian. And they always tried to give me Hispanic parts but I don't speak Spanish, I speak Portuguese, and I got very very frustated. They literally wouldn't teach me anything or give me any clear instructions, they would just yell at me and make me feel like I wasn't good enough.

And even the top 4 episode where one model was rly sick but still participated in the shoot and the usual the judges asks each girl “ who do you think has the most/least potential” and results were the talking point
Ah yes, the classic "You have a mental disability? Get over it!". This attitude right here boils my blood so much! I have autism and i know how frustrating it is to remember the simplest things and do things on the fly. The way the judges shrugged at Brits explination is disgusting.
Let's also not forget that this show made a girl who was completley night blind, walk a runway that was almost completely dark. and also made a deaf man do a photoshoot in the complete dark, so he had no sight or sound during the photoshoot. So this show does 0 accommodation for contestants with actual and serious disabilities that would majorly impact their performances. Despicable.
From Australia, and have literally never used the word Sheila for anything. Made it to the end... the accents are terrible. I've been told by actors that our accent is one of the hardest to replicate and sound authentic so these girls had no chance.
I use to love Tyra and ANTM but once I grew up I really realized that Tyra, the judges and ANTM is so destructive and toxic to little girl and women all over the world. Also what really gets me is that they act and pretend to care about these girls just enough to make u wonder if there’s something wrong with u. then u mature and realize they where just horrible and that is full blown manipulative and abusive way of doing thing. I will NEVER let my daughter watch anything like this.
Try to say "easy, breezy, beautiful cover girl" in an Australian accent out loud. There's a 99% chance it's about to sound crazy. Even if you're Australian.

As someone who has been in a coma due to a head injury and having to work extra hard because my memory sucks. And I had a concussion during the lock down o.O People never understood. I remember watching this and it pissed me off ..no empathy or understanding.
It's hard, and not only that it shouldn't require so much explaining every time. I have repeated head injuries from an abusive relationship. I have brain fog from long COVID. I get hypoxic and it's difficult to get words strung together. But I'm "fine" most of the time. I shouldn't have to give a life history when I'm not okay 😑

Traumatic brain injury= you need to work past it. Insane, I feel so bad for her, there is so little she can actually do, depending on how severe the injury was and the fact she managed without using up like five times the time compared to the other girls is amazing
The thing that enrages me the most about this is from my car accident I ended up paralyzed from the waist down in a wheelchair for the rest of my life but I also had a severe traumatic brain injury TBI and it does effect your memory messes with your anxiety and ptsd and the list literally can go ON AND ON AND ON. It upsets me so much my heart sank when they basically just told her your just gonna have to get over it like everyone else instead of offering a little help like maybe we can do this or that it’s literally SO flipping easy. Plus being down right rude and mean is NOT called for. SMFH.
Trust me, the thing with Brittany's short term memory gets worse in the next episode! Even the models were saying that she was faking it or using it as an excuse to get sympathy! I am very shocked that I was so obsessed with this show as a kid! It's terrible what they had the girls go through!
Every time you post a new reaction vid, I watch it and think, ‘is this a prank show to embarrass models without them knowing? Where’s the hidden camera?’
It makes my heart happy that younger generations can so articulately see through the bs I grew up on and took on board. This show was incredibly traumatizing to contestants. Sadly, Jael, the girl sent home, has since passed away. Tyra continued exploiting her for ratings on her talk show before she died.
