They have no empathy for people with genuine fears and phobias. You could be the most stunning model in the world, but they would send you home if you wouldn’t get on a roller coaster. It’s so dumb. You couldn’t pay me enough to get on a roller coaster or a rooftop. I get the shakes in an elevator.
I love roller coasters, but I started getting motion sickness with adulthood :(. My stomach would quit 1 minute in and they'd tell me that I should've just "worked through it" and send me home.

Once out of curiosity I did try and look it up. Website is down. Same with Tyra make up pyramid scheme and whatever they were using to view cycle 19 photos early, etc. and I’m not saying now it’s down, this was in real time when it aired. Surprisingly, Tyra doesn’t have high quality products.
You know what I wish tyra would do all the shoots to show them 😂 that would be hilarious to see the actual "model" Doing these ridiculous things for them first.

This show started one year after American Idol... I kind of wonder if they wanted Nigel to be the "mean British one" like Simon Cowell lol. Sometimes the things Nigel says sound so ridiculous and unnatural it seems more like he's trying to play a character (Still awful and could easily feel cruel to any of the women on the show, though)
Then again... all of the judges on this show ended up being "the mean one" so maybe I'm wrong 😂
That part pist me off so much because of how he was like “I don’t know if it’s cause you guys were scared…” and Rihannon immediately shot down with “oh I loved it” for him to be like “whether or not you loved it or hated it …” Dude, WHAT WAS YOUR POINT THEN?!

My dad once forced me to go with him on a rollercoaster. I can't stand high places, neither a rollercoaster.
I got a panic attack even before the rollercoaster started, I cried and can't barely remember the time in the air.
In the end I vomited, I got chills, they had to bring water to recover me.
I got really mad at my dad, and to this day I haven't gotten back on a rollercoaster and I'm not thinking of doing again.

The last time I was on a roller coaster with two of my friends and my husband, my husband did just this, lol. When we went by the camera, he did a thinking pose (hand on his chin, looking up slightly with a stern/hard thinking look on his face). The rest of us were screaming our heads of course! This pic turned out hilarious! I don't know how he did that so well! He would have rocked this photoshoot! LOL
My sister and I began to do competitions at amusement parks to try to keep stone faced throughout the ride and even that was hard!
Tyra would have eliminated him because she would say that she “didn’t know who he was”.

As the bag holder of the family/friend group, I can confirm that this shoot is a NIGHTMARE scenario.
This is not the MOST unreasonable challenge. They definitely hire models for the roller coaster sample pictures, and mid coaster promotional pics. It got stupid when they started having them portray emotions that would never be on a theme park advertisement. It should have been group shots, rotating which model is in the center, and the theme should have been simple, like "best friends having the time of their lives."

Yeah but the purpose of the show was to find a high fashion model rather than a commercial one. So it's a pretty unrealistic challenge

I don’t blame that girl for getting scared, some of those rides are really intense at knotts. I’ve been a few times and everytime id have at least one panic attack after doing a ride. proud of her for doing it and pushing threw
This series is 100% my guilty pleasure as I eat my breakfast! If you run out of American episodes maybe you could also do international top model episodes!
It's really hard to get a flattering picture when you're moving at extreme speeds and your hair is blowing all over the place, wind in your eyes, contorting your skin in the worst possible way. They definitely chose the "bad" pictures on purpose- instead of picking a nicer, less blurry photo. They have favorites.
And you cannot really control well your facial muscles with this speed. The whole idea of showing emotions was insane. Just showing feeling relaxed would be much more reasonable.
One of my triggers is that dropping feeling you get in your stomach when going too fast over a hill. I physically would not be able to do this. I've tried to ride coasters and have gotten to a point where I won't have a full blown panic attack, but I absolutely could not model

This is horrible. I HATE rollercoasters. How did they know the girls weren't going to get sick?
There was a ride I went on when I was 15, it was a big circle...and they called it a roller coaster. Basically you would sit in it on a train (identical to the ones on roller coasters). It just had a thin metal bar across the legs. It went round and round really fast. My friend and I started sliding around in it.
There were no handle bars or any straps, just the thin metal bar across our legs.
So then the ride stopped at the top (as it always did) and we were literally falling out! We were freaking out. We held hands and put our feet on the back of the seat in front of us and used our other hands to try to grab the back of our own seat. it was the only thing to keep us from sliding out.
There was this kid a couple seats in front of us about 10 who was screaming to get off, screaming about how he was falling out, calling for his mom etc. It was horrible. When the ride stopped I could see half the passengers were in tears. We complained but nothing happened. Not for a few years. Then they banned the ride because of 'injuries'.
So yeah... you never know who could have real trauma with roller coasters. I can definitely see it.
But really this is a dumb concept for a photo shoot. In no way does it show talent.
Also, that ride they're on, if you have a big chest then it can be very uncomfortable...
Again, if I’m ever on a show where they ask your biggest fears I’m writing down “feeding fluffy bunnies lettuce”
Because that’s just an activity that would really just terrify me into the top 2. 😘
Ideas for Jessica if she decides to make a compilation video:
1) Everytime Tyra’s tone changes and becomes softer just to get the models reaction and speak up of something either traumatic or based on their bad week.
2) Eliminating the non-problematic model and save the one with either bad attitude, speak up to the judges or whatever just to teach her a lesson and make the audience see she’s a bad person.
3) Ranking the bad photoshoots and horrific runway’s.
4) The judges comment that’s too general and the constant ‘bullying’ throughout judging.
5) How they disregard any model’s personal issue and fires back at them (just not caring).
Jessica has so much content already and it even expose the harmful reality show, but it also costs the judges and producers in the long run. I dunno if it’s a good outcome but the show never really compassion which bothers me. I’m sure it’s a great experience for them and a once and a lifetime opportunity but you can’t toy with someone just because it prolongs the show.
Interesting that they didn't even give Chris, the girl who they know was terrified of rollercoasters, fear to portray. Lol
I also wonder if anyone involved with the show watches these and feels the appropriate amount of shame for what they did to these girls for so many years.
I almost cried seeing how terrified Chris was. She was literally squirming like she wanted to get OFF asap. You could tell the other girls felt for her too when they saw that she was crying and shaking.

They then pulled a Disney and convinced the models to pay $43.50 for a pack of blurry photos.
Now show the emotion as if you're Grandma just got kidnapped on your birthday but you happen to have also won the lottery..

Cycle 5 had the girls run on a treadmill and greenscreen from "something scary" so they already tried Chris' idea 😂

Thank goodness the other girls were so nice to her afterwards. I have experience with being forced to go on a really simple roller coaster and having a full blown panic attack and crying in front of my friends, and you just don't understand how utterly humiliating that is. I'm glad she didn't puke in the photo but that would have served Nigel right
I was an anxious child, and I am an anxious adult, but I LOVE Rollercoasters. My brother talked me into going on Medusa at Six Flags for my first try, and I was freaking out before the first drop, like totally pissed he'd gotten me to do it. Then it was over, and my brother and I rode 10 more times. Not even joking, the number actually might have been higher. I think it's just nice to get an adrenaline rush for a better reason than I usually do xD

Same thing happened to me at Disneyland with an old boyfriend. I had previously agreed on thunder mountain but nothing upside down because I prefer things like walzer. He coaxed me onto space mountain and I loved it! Went on all the big rides and the Aerosmith coaster twice. I was so tense when I went on space mountain that I smacked my back against the seat and it aches for days. Never felt so old as when I hurt my back at Disneyland.
God if I was on ANTM I’d just tell them I’m deathly afraid of puppies or something, can’t let them know ANY weaknesses
I’ve definitely done this before with my siblings on an emptier day at the theme park. We would give each other poses like bored/scared/excited or we would do a pose together or find something to fit the theme of the ride because we were able to ride the rides so many times that we knew where the cameras were. BUT the difference was that we liked roller coasters and were literally 10-15 years old and not grown professional models who want a serious career and are on a show for that. They need to get consent for these things and not force these girls into this.
AND those cameras are intentionally on the scariest/most exciting part of the ride to get good photos. If you aren’t expecting the next quick turn, big drop, or upside down thing then you are gonna have a terrible photo anyway. (they clearly don’t know where the cameras are too because half of them are looking away from it.

I've been on that ride. It doesn't have any scary drops but let me tell you it is fast to the point where you feel gravity pull you back. My ears even hurt after getting off so I can imagine trying to pose was nearly impossible.
ANTM: Today we are going to put you in a humiliating situation that bears no relevance to the actual modelling industry. It will not help you advance your modelling careers in anyway but will improve our ratings.

As someone who doesn’t like rollercoasters (not that it’s relevant lol) I felt for Chris so bad. I’ve had all those emotions, I usually get pressured to go on one ride then I resume to bag holder and food critic lol. And Jessica you’re hilarious 😂, loved the voice change edit.

The lame prize reminds me that on the first season of Survivor they had a reward challenge that had the prize of a single can of beer, and all the contestants went on a strike, so they had to upgrade the reward. Some of these "emotions" they had to portray are so vague I'm just wondering how they would do it while posing for a regular camera, nevermind while there are also intense G forces acting on their bodies and faces (because keep in mind, most of those coaster cameras are at a drop or a curve because they're SUPPOSED to look silly). Also do you think production paid for the photos, or did they just use a still from the camera facing the girl on the ride?
Edit: Upon closer inspection, those MIGHT be the pictures from the actual ride, but not the typical ones. Granted, I've never been on this particular coaster, but every ride photo I've ever seen is a group picture of your entire cart/row (depending on how many riders are on it). That's why they have like 8 cameras there. These individual photos they're judging seem to be crops, though possibly not from the camera facing the girl on the ride.

I live here! I grew up going to Disneyland and Knotts all the time 😄. Knotts has some decent rollercoasters that range from mild to HOLY F$%#!!! (Including a super terrifying tower, Supreme Scream). I don’t understand how they could’ve gotten any other expression other then joy or fear. I love rollercoasters and always smile huge but physics is going to be making my face looking like a Picasso painting in a photo.

I found this channel just recently and binge-watched through many of the ANTM related videos. As someone who had never seen that show, I'm in shock. It seems they just found a list of the most common phobias and said - yep, the perfect material to draw inspiration for our photo-shoots. It's absolutely ridiculous. Phobias involving heights and water/drowning are among the most common, but the show directors just go "overcome your fears, it's just in your head". Sure, by definition phobia is something that is "only in your head", but reaction to it is real and cannot be easily controlled. For example, I have a pretty serious arachnophobia (fear of spiders), it's severe enough that a small spider on me can put me in an affective state of mind, and it's something I just cannot control and "overcome". I'm not going to watch that video where they put real live spiders on models. I saw the thumbnail and I had to look away, as even a picture of a large spider accelerates my heart rate. I can only imagine the psychological torture some of the models with different phobias had to go through just for the sick entertainment value. It's sad and horrifying.
Knotted berry farm has some really cool roller coasters! My cousin and I used to pose for the cameras on the rides just for fun 😂
They should've done this at Knott's Berry Farm during Halloween season! Now that would be something I'd want to see! 😄 That place puts on THE BEST haunted house, etc... Love these episodes, Jessica! I smile thru the whole thing, every time, & u are funny AF. 😄👏🏻☮💜

When I was in my late teens I worked at Cedar Point. Over my time there I learned where all the cameras were on all the rides so by the end I would pose for the pics on every ride. I still have some of those photos/Keychains. I would have knocked this challenge out the park.
Nigel is so mean to Rhianna. This is the most stupid challenge in ANTM history, not related to modeling at all. Tyra really ignored the girls' safety on this dumb ridiculous challenge. Cycle 15 is full of stupid challenge, this one and conveyor runway while in fact they call it as high fashion cycle. The real high fashion cycle for me is cycle 9, 10, and 11.
I felt for Chris. Remember I got on a roller coaster before. I can just breathe shallow and I feel like vomit. my anxiety is in max. I was thinking when would it end and hope to be faint on there.
