Remember watching this as a kid, I assumed he was a long established star, but he was just getting his big break. Very accurate, amazing facial expressions, and he's certainly more creative than many TV impressionists of the time- yet there's a bit of vic and bob/Avid Merrion about the abstract direction he takes his subjects.
Like the Grumbleweeds Robin Colvills impression of Jimmy Saville, Phil mightve heard stories of Rolf (it was more well hidden) but like Robin he would never have given such an affectionate impression or even done it if he knew the truth.
I saw him in Brighton. This chap in the audience tried to spoil it for everybody by continually heckling; Phil's response was perfect, he said, "It's now 8:30 (or whenever) in the evening, and all the other hecklers have stopped......but the one with the DURACELL battery......" 😂😅😊
Once when he was doing impression of Rolf said Hi I'm a Paedo. Coz love 2 little boys etc. Later Rolf himself wasn't impressed by what Cool said and threatened to sue him. Where Phil said was only a joke. Turns out he said the truth
I love the story about him going down to The Falklands to do a show for the lads in the armed forces. During his performance someone in the audience let out a loud fart. Apparently Phil stopped for a moment and said "That's the first time that I've ever been heckled by a real arsehole!"
Apparently (For what it's worth considering what a twat Harris turned out to be) having seen his impersonation of him, he declared Phil Cool to be by far the most accurate of all the ones that used to try and 'Do' him. Absolutely right!
If want to see something to split your sides, try to find Phil Cool impersonating Rolf Harris singing Tom Jones' You don't have to be beautiful. I nearly had a cardiac laughing.
One of the times I laughed hardest was Phil doing an impression of George Formby if he was in the modern era (circa 1985). If you could see what I could see, when I'm robot dancin'! 🤣
I remember someone in the 90s doing an impression of George Formby singing a Prince medley. I distinctly remember him standing there with his ukelele, singing, "Twenty three positions in a one-night stand" from 'Gett Off'! 😂 It might have been on The Fast Show, but I'm not sure.
I miss seeing Phil Cool. He was great and had a face that makes Jim Carrey's look stiff. Unfortunately when celebs started literally getting caught with their pants down a lot of the most popular impressions were put in the bin. Not just for Phil but all impressionists.
Phil cool did some great impressions, the problem with his own show was it got a bit tired and worn out, the musical impressions of singers went to extreme lengths including a whole band and lasted 5 minutes or longer, it felt as though what could have been a very funny 20 minute show was stretched to 30 minutes, better placed to have had a couple of other impressionists on to do some short gags instead of a couple of overly long freddie mecury or mick jagger entire song's
Yes I agree. He was an excellent mimic but unfortunately he didn't know when to stop with some of his gags. He used to carry them on for far too long, often after he delivered the punchline.
He made enough money to retire from the stage and concentrate on his family - the people who often get forgotten by successful entertainers. A wise decision.
Pretty sure a Kangaroo at the last supper is a. monty Python joke?, otherwise, i loved Phil Cool. One of those people who could make me laugh endlessly. :)
Rolf was not a great warm character in real life [first hand knowledge], but he was set up and broken by the Met, and we all know that Police Forces are run by perverts and the woke agenda, along with the corrupt media such as the BBC. Rolf was a sacrificial giveaway to distract from the crimes of Savile, Andrew and Chawwles, more of the royals, the Met, and about 30% of Westminster; and the best part?, it's all coming out!
@@ZI-WAN-KHANif memory serves, he suffered a major heart attack in 2000 and was left hospitalised for months. He made a bit of a comeback but retired in 2013, as one of your viewers mentions, due the travelling and touring schedule taking its toll. Bit of a sad ending for such a funny man, but at least he’s still alive, and his comedy legacy is rich indeed

I got to admit that i found this sketch very funny. Phil Cool has got Rolf Harris down to perfection.
Sketch.Did you go to school ?
Not to perfection, thank god.
Yeah…Rolf was great. Until he wasn’t.
Used to love impressionists back in the day and I thought he was the best of the lot. Did a great impression of Clive James too.
Wow. I had totally forgotten about Phil Cool !
i think PHIL is hoping to forget this impression lo
Phil Cool is one of the best impersonators ever.
His facial expressions were an act in themselves.
Absolutely true 👍
The greatest impressionist of them all !
Saw phil cool live back in the late 80s, bloody great entertainer and impressionist.
He was so funny with his impressions. This is a classic I've been laughing at
Went to see him at Barnsley many years ago. Phenomenally good.
Philominally good....
Incredible talent, still a legend ❤❤👏👏🏴🏴

Was lucky enough to see Phil at a book signing in the late eighties. I remember a young lad asking him to do his aquaphibian...and he obliged. 😂
This was his best impression... genius 😂😂
Yes it sure was a real classic 👍
@@Alfred-fu1ev his Mick Jagger was pretty good too
Used to watch Phil Cool in the 80's, Extremely funny.
Same here back in the day i never use to miss his shows that came on TV. 👍
Absolutely spot on
After Rolf went inside, Phil had to fall back on his other impersonations: Jimmy Savile, Stewart Hall and Dave Lee Travers.
Not to forget Gary Glitter
Like the Grumbleweeds Robin Colvills impression of Jimmy Saville, Phil mightve heard stories of Rolf (it was more well hidden) but like Robin he would never have given such an affectionate impression or even done it if he knew the truth.
Dave lee travers was never convicted of any crime
@@AnthonyBradshaw-z6l probably because Dave Lee Travers isn't a real person.

This has aged well
I'd forgotten how good he was.
He was discovered by jasper carrot absolutely brilliant 👏👏😂😂
Thanks for that valuable piece of information there alansalter well done.
So Carrott served one good purpose, then....
Fantastic impression! It was always a treat seeing Phil getting those glasses and false beard out of his pocket, knowing what was coming! 😂
Just missing a cpl of kids though
Brilliant ☺️

The fact that he's actually built like Rolf Harris is the cherry on the cake.
Bloody hilarious 🤣
What other reason was there that the Catholic Church got Rolf in for the job.
Recommended by Jimmy Savile.

Hi davidmalton3984 thanks for your reply
@@ZI-WAN-KHAN VERY WELCOME😁😁
He was tremendously talented.
He really was a popular icon for the 80s comedy circuit

Phil is one of the best impersonaters
Even funnier than the man himself. He did a version "Bridge Over Trouble Water" in the style of Rolf way back in 1986.
Rolf was very cool Phil cool

Phil was like a Jim Carrey of his time.
Easily the best.
Best stand up comedian the living legend

I suppose it was apposite that a creepy as fuck impressionist did Rolf Harris.
Hard to find something amusing in anything about Harris.

"Rubber faced irritant" according to Half Man Half Biscuit.
