absolutely TWISTED my ankle with all of my weight trying to drop in on a higher than usual ramp for me, today so here I am watching john while i ice my ankle hoping it stops looking baseball shaped
Mathew Davis broke my ankle doing a rock to fakie after I had just learned it a few tried ago. Also it was on a 5 foot ramp and before that day I wouldn’t touch anything above 4 foot because when I was learning to drop in I was smart and tried on a six foot vert ramp and hit my elbow so hard
the hardest trick I can do is a varial kickflip and Im bad at frontside 180's but I wish I had more friends that just wanted to skate spots because it hypes you up to try new things
16 years of skating and here are my top 10 tricks I can’t figure out: Inward heels in any stance Effortless Switch heels (not like the one that pops high but flips so slow I can’t land it) Hardflip but the proper way not thru the legs Back 3 Front 3 Laser flips proper back biggies Nice 3 shuvs with pop and control Bigflips Properly flicked nollie flips
John I love your videos and you inspire me to get out there everyday and get up everyday to keep killing it! You and Sara are honestly people I really look up to. You are so inspiring keep it up!
I’ve been trying to learn to kick flip and it was so hard but I finally got the flick down half way so it flips onto the bottom part of the deck but your slogan helped me because I progressed today 😊🛹
If you work on doing it just like an ollie but right before the your lead foot would level out bring it forward and to the corner between the nose and backside of your board. You really don't have to flick and it'll level out better.
My heelflips were clean but never more than a foot off the ground. I changed the method to do the opposite of a kickflip. I later learned that it was a toeflip. The kick and toe also should be almost as high as your ollie. Ive heard toeflip used for another trick too.
I’ve seen kinda two ways people make back360. The coolest being when they tweak them down with their front foot and let the front foot seemingly take the lead and kinda twirl the board all the way around, like a sort of Ollying over something very high and multi dimensional. The more laid back looking type is when they actually loose contact with the board with the front foot (almost like Ollie north) and seemingly let the back foot lead the board around, more like a mid air pirouette.
Omg Thank you for the beginner skateboard suggestion on your website. I been watching you for years and your link to the CCS complete helped me a lot. I will now be recording my progression and board set up . Love you John 🤍
Wow 47 and you're just starting? That's very bold and brave my friend. Props to you! I've been skating for 20yrs since I was 10 and if you want some advice, I'd stay with not worrying about tricks for a long while.. when you're starting out the most important thing is to just skate and get used to your board to improve board control. Instead of driving down the street to the corner store, skate there (that's just one example). Learning to be comfortable and gaining board control is the most important thing before trying Ollieing etc.. I think a lot of people focus too much on tricks in the beginning which leads to discouragement and just looking awkward on a board.. but anyways I'll stop ranting. Keep at it yo if it makes you happy!
@@beemelonhead1 thanks! Your advice is excellent. Right now, I have a parking lot at a church I go to 3-4 times a week and am still just learning to push myself around. Getting faster and more stable on my board. I go to skate parks too, just to get a different place to hang and am now learning to roll fakie off of small quarter pipes. I'm having so much fun with, I don't really care about tricks. It's great exercise, too.
Hey by the way, I’m 14 and I stretch every single day before a skate session. Trust me it works even though I’m younger make sure you’re at least doing 5 min stretches
Yes sir! I was at this skate park while I was in queens for a week, I’m from Florida and I was really hoping too see you at a skatepark, I didn’t.... but you backed me up :)
As a life long skater and instructor (ok snowboards, but helps with analysis I think) my observation especially on the kickflip FS 360s: work on bigger pop and suck up to land, ie the flip is done by the time youre at the top of your jump comes up to your feet, instead of your feet catching in when its going down . Bigger pop will surely help with the multi flip tricks too? Easier said than done I know...great vids thanks.
I've been trying frontside flips. I didn't really try them until yesterday and I got super close a lot. Eventually I landed it in the same day. I've always been more of heelflip person so front heels came to me in like 4 days. My only problem with fs flips is me flicking to hard or in the wrong spot.
Best outro ever. 🎤🎵🎶 Also, you're amazing at ledges and rails. Keep working on the rest of it and I'm sure you'll be amazing at that, too! Everyone sucks at flat ground compared to Jonny Giger.
This video has motivated me to go out and finally learn bs 50 50s. I have never been able to lock them in, but also I never practice them properly. Thanks for motivation John!
Love your videos John and I know how you feel i just landed my first heelflip but I still can’t really land them I can kick flip great though it’s weird
If you unlock the secret of the flat ground hardflip, you will unlock the frontside 360 kickflip. Those were my killer tricks. Try putting your pop foot on the opposite side of the frontside rotation. Like right where the tail meets the flat for that side pressure pop. It will automatically flip the hardflip with the same foot motion in full. Add a 180 and stomp the 2nd 180 for the front 3
Sw tre for me! and whenever I saw your story the other day for fakie front noseslide, I went straight to the park to try and learn them too! Thanks for the inspiriation!
5:05 LOL that's like me and the height of my ollies. If I'm ollieing OFF of something like a box or a curb I have a wicked snappy pop and effortless height, but ollieing ONTO or OVER something is like a science I can't master. Now I approach every obstacle like I was ollieing off a cliff and it helps. Brains eh.

Unless you feel dizzy when walking or feel like throwing you should take break for a couple days cuz depending on how hard you hit your but don’t let this stop you from skating
For me it’s definitely just fixing my heelflips, I recently switched to slip ons because I feel way more in tune with my tricks and the board itself...with the exception of heelflip tricks. Not sure why but those are my weakest right now so for the next week I’m gonna be focusing on heels, varial heels, and fakie front heels to try to get them back again

proper back biggies
