Now imagine seeing that in 2004 after playing GTA Vice City. I was literally buying every gamedev related book I could get my hands on at 12 y.o. after finishing HL2 and reading the "Raising the bar"
I was 14 when HL1 came to PC. I can’t explain how revolutionary it was for gaming. It changed everything. I was shocked that I could use a HECU Laser Tripmine on attacking soldiers and it would absolutely annihilate them when they set off all explosives in the area.
Yup! This is me.. Half Life is my childhood. I grew up as a kid messing around with Garrys Mod, TTT, Flood mod .. “Fully modeled” models etc.. As a kid I just knew Garrys Mod as a fun game that was free on cracked Steam. When I started getting older and figured out what a mod was, I found out it was a mod for Half Life 2. I remember asking my mom to buy it when it was on sale for dirt cheap, to give it a go. I had to sit through and play it a few times to actually finish it because my dumb kid brain and terrible attention span. But as I grew up, I made myself finish it because the flawless reviews and it has shaped me into the die hard Half Life fan I have become today. Also made a bunch of maps for Garrys Mod via Hammer / Source SDK that were used on TTT/Flood servers. I have played the games more than 20 times over the years .. And just recently played through the HL2:VR mods with the episodes and just finished getting 100% achievements on them.. It was an ABSOLUTE TRANSENDENT experience being a childhood lover of HL..
Glad to see another Half-Life fan in the wild
