- In this video Dan shares with you how to go about preventing and combating the dreaded fruit tree disease known as peach leaf curl aka (Taphrina deformans) using organic and manual controls.
Step by step instructions:
1) Apply copper fungicide in the fall after the tree has lost all of it's foliage and then again in the spring just before the tree begins to flush out it's new growth.
2) Clean up any fallen leaves below the affected tree and get it out of the garden. Do not compost the fallen leaves as this will further proliferate the fungus.
3) At the end of the growing season remove and replace any of the old mulch used around the tree. (Discard, do not compost)
4) Winter prune and maintenance prune the affected tree so that it has adequate airflow during the peak growing season.
5) Once the tree has come out of winter dormancy, remove any visible diseased leaves and/or twigs on the tree.
5) You can continue treatment of the tree and it's leaves with copper fungicide throughout the spring and summer as needed (weekly/bi-weekly). However, take care not to spray during the daytime when beneficial insects like bee's are present and the sun is full. Also be aware that copper although organic is a heavy metal that can accumulate in the soil which can become detrimental to the soil food web. A plastic drop cloth or tarp placed beneath the tree during applications can be helpful in preventing any problems.
6) Fertilize the tree using an appropriate fertilizing schedule.

We use old-time methods on the farm. Add 1/8 cup baking soda/sodium bicarbonate to two gallons of water in a garden sprayer. Treat peach trees and other susceptible plants like grape vines before they leaf out in the spring. Repeat in ten days but change the baking soda for a cup of milk. If we have an unusually wet spring we'll continue these treatments until conditions improve. Cheap, effective, and safe.
Great article Dan. A lot of videos are focused on prevention of disease in healthy plants but yours explains how to treat trees that are already suffering from the problem which is why most people are searching for treatments in the first place. Thank you
It took me looking at 3-4 other videos on spraying for fungus to find this one that actually deals with dealing with peach tree leaf curl using the product that I bought. And, it provides measurements, tips for adding to your tree's health, plus it was shorter than all of the others that proved useless. So, many thanks for creating just the informative video I needed.
After searching the internet, trying to find out what was going on with my almond tree, I learned that Peach Leaf Curl can also affect almond trees. I am thankful for you informational video on this subject and also for the advice and home remedies from your community. Blessings to all!
Hello, I would advise you to do 2 winter oil treatments in the winter, when the tree is at rest but as long as there are no frosts or excess heat, you cannot apply it when it rains or the tree is wet. The oil what it does is clog pores and smother the fungus and all the bugs that have laid eggs in the bark of the tree. This oil is harmless to people and in spring, after flowering, but before leaves come out or just when they are coming out, treat with your product, copper sulfate and do treatment during spring after a rain because with the humidity Leprosy comes out of the peach tree. I use a product called "Bordeles broth" that is sold already prepared and has copper sulfate, lime and diluted sulfur, it works very well, it is also used by the French, -the inventors- and the Italians, well, the whole basin Mediterranea we use it. Greetings from Europe.
just kitchen oil ?

Perfect timing, I have this problem with my peach and nectarine trees. I have already picked most of the infected leaves and yet to cut the sticks off too. Great tips, thanks.
Thank you for the information! I just adopted two large peach trees in my new backyard and they both have this disease. I'm hoping that by next year I can fix this issue and have some delicious peaches. I subscribed! 🍑🧡
This was very helpful.
I have a big problem with my peach and apricot trees this year.
I will use your tips. Thanks.
Thank you very much going to try this on my little tree
Had no idea this was a problem, but found it on my tree this morning. Now I know what to do. Thanks!
Great stuff Dan the Man! Keep the vids coming, I learn a lot from this channel!
My tree always seems worse with a wetter late spring. I appreciate the video! I'm a little overwhelmed by what's going on with my tree, but I love my little tree so I'll do what I can!
Good information! Now I’m headed out to start pulling off those yucky leaves! Thanks!
My peach tree got the same disease. Thank you for good tips
How timely for me. My childhood peach tree in Mountain View had peach leaf curl for several years until the year our former chyrsanthemum nursery property was developed into a concrete tiltup office building in the mid--70's. That year it had a bumper crop of peaches that never reached maturity because it was yanked out in early spring! I planted a 5-1 combo stone fruit tree and a curl-free peach, and have a pretty big peach leaf curl infection going on with those two little trees now. It's so wierd to have the Babcock and Elberta peaches having peach leaf curl, but the Blenheim Apricot, Santa Rosa Plum and the nectarine on the same tree trunk had none! I have been picking off the curled leaves, and I am so glad you said to do the same. Wet year this year. Will spray this fall. Thanks for the info!
You sir, are a wealth of knowledge. So happy I stumbled across your channel. I'll admit that I struggle (or hesitate) with fruit trees here in SW Florida. They all grow well, but I have never pruned, treated, or follow any type of fertilization schedule. Regardless, its still a fun experience. Thanks again for the video. Looking forward to your next upload
Great
Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.
Thank you for your valid information!
Good informative and educational video thankyou sharing
Right to the point . Thank you !
Thank you! Just noticed these affected leaves on my peach tree last week. Picked off probably 100 leaves over the weekend. Will try giving it some fertiliser. Thanks for the tips!
Awesome video and great info! Thank you! Have you ever thought about colloidal silver spray? I know that it is anti-fungal too. Have a great growing season!
Very useful. My problem is with a - sadly neglected - old apple tree, which I'm currently reviving. But your advice still holds good. Thanks
Very informative and helpful video. Well done! Our beautiful peach tree has a severe case of this disease this year. We will get after it. Thanks
Thank you your information. It is very informative.
Very good information, thanks
Thank you for sharing the natural fertilizers. It's wonderful to see the value of "weeds" in our yard. I don't see them as weeds but as medicine.
great tips, thanks
Thank you so much for your help. My fruit trees need help.
Thanks a lot. Big help.
Perfect timing to see this video. My multi-grafted fruit tree has the same curly leaves on peach branches only. I'll remove all the infected leaves tomorrow. It's going to be brutal though. :( Thanks for posting your videos. I found them very informative, inspiring, and educational. I ordered some Bocking 14 comfrey roots after watching your last video. Looking forward to a healthier garden using your tips.
Very helpful my friend Thanks
Very good video !!
Thanks for the information...
big thumbs up! -you're a good man!!!!!!
Great job, Dan. We noticed the leaf condition on our few years old peach tree and was clueless as to the nature of it. While your video confirmed what we'd seen on another one, this provided the details the other lacked, namely to remove the leaves and dispose of, and to fertalize. Being that is now spring, we'll be following your advice and will pickup a copper based fungicide for use after leaf drop in fall/ winter. Thanks again.
that bunch of comfrey would be a pretty bouquet all by itself. Thanks for the video, i've been fighting leaf curl for 2 years now and just now see it on 2 of my 4 peaches again.....at least i know i'm doing what i can.
Awesome vid!!
Cool. You save my tree
Thank you, very helpful! I am getting a different problem on the peach tree (borers), hopefully, that can be fixed in the same way.
I was wondering what I needed to do about this disease on my nectarine tree. Last year it spoiled all the fruits. Thanks so much this helpful video.
I have just picked mine of my small nectarine tree. Makes a difference. Must get some comfrey hear it's amazing for all plants.
Thank you very helpful
Thank you, Sir. It may save my peach tree that is suffering heavily.
Excellent advice, thanks for the common sense walk thru. There may be different trees here in zone 3b, but the care will be similar! All the best
Good lover the info thanks
Awesome content bro. My nectarean tree has this issue. Knowledge it power. Thank you Friend!!
very good thank you.
Thanks . Having this dilemma now!
great help
Thank you!
Awesome thanks.🌿🌾🌻🌸🌱
You're Awesome!
Thank you so much
very helpful
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Good tips
Thanks for the info, I had to pick 5 trees by hand, it truly helps the tree during spring then w great tasting fruit ! I will use the solution next year,
Fall of this year. Are you in other hemisphere?
Thanks so much!
When I had a small orchard I used Lime Sulfur spray (Organic) when half the leaves had fallen. This was before using a copper spray as the copper will neutralize the Lime Sulfur. When the trees were bare I sprayed with copper. The experts recommend a third spray at bud swell but they use a chemical fix.
Thanks for sharing, I like your approach (feeding the plant to make it stronger!). We planted a a peach tree at the beginning of this year and because our climate here in the Netherlands is rather rainy and makes peaches very susceptible to leaf curl, we chose 'Avalon Pride' as it was the most resistant variety we could find. I will apply some comfry mulch soon! What are the most resistant varieties in your experince?
Thank you Sir 👍
I make copper chloride. (Cheap to make and EASY)
I'm going to try spraying it on one of my trees.
Ty for info. 👍✝️🙏❤️
Excellent
Thanks man!
my favorite peach is plc free! I highly recommend 'Frost' peach
I did not knew about this one variete! I have 2 peachs and they have the same problems pffff
I'm all for preventive spraying. I don't have peaches, but my.yuzu had a bad case of citrus scab, so I've been using this copper spray. I also sprayed horticultural oil, neem, and peppermint soap every week for 3 weeks. 🙏 I won't have the aphid, scale, and spidermites infestation like last year. Subscribed.
thx and gave the 1st thumb up on this video
